[2] The title of the sermon: “HEBREWS CHAPTER 3.”

  • We are continuing our verse by verse study through the Book of Hebrews.
  • Let’s get started in verse 1 of Hebrews Chapter 3.

[3] Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

  • I want to pay very close attention to verse 1 right there. The Book of Hebrews is speaking to the saved.
  • It’s very clear there. The entire Book is teaching these more advanced things to the saved.
  • For example, the Gospel of John is written that ye might believe and be saved.
  • The Book of Hebrews is written to people who are already saved.

The people who are already saved need further instruction on what to do. You’re saved. NOW WHAT?

  • The Book of Hebrews is teaching you what to do next. This is more advanced doctrine.
  • Verse 1 of Hebrews Chapter 3, right there, says: “Holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling.”
  • “Consider the Apostle and High Priest of OUR PROFESSION, Christ Jesus.”
  • You have already placed your faith in Jesus Christ, and you’re already saved.

We just learned at the end of Hebrews Chapter 2 that Jesus Christ IS ABLE to save us.

  • Once we believe in Him, He is not ashamed to call us brethren. “And again, I will put my trust in Him.”
  • We are already His family. We have become the children of God.

John Chapter 1 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God.”

  • “EVEN TO THEM THAT BELIEVE ON HIS NAME.”
  • “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”
  • Salvation is basic doctrine taught throughout the Bible. It’s faith alone in Jesus Christ that saves you.
  • It’s believing in Him, trusting in Him, or having faith IN HIM. Not in your works in any way, shape, or form.
  • You must get salvation before you will understand the Book of Hebrews.

But yet, you’ll have people that don’t understand that Hebrews is written to the saved already.

  • But the word of God tells you these things right there. And it’s very clear to see this.
  • But they will go to many verses in Hebrews to say that you can lose salvation.
  • But, again, a basic doctrine in the Bible is that salvation is equal to everlasting life that cannot be lost.
  • If God says you are the holy brethren and partakers of the heavenly calling, that’s what He means.
  • We have already believed in Jesus Christ and professed that faith in Him.

[4] 2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

  • God has already saved us. Jesus says, “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
  • Jesus says, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” Not according to works.
  • But according to His own purpose and grace, which was GIVEN US. Salvation is the gift of God.
  • We don’t work for a gift. We simply believe in our mind that Jesus can save us.
  • He died, He was buried, and He arose from the dead. We know Jesus can save us.
  • Therefore, we are the holy brethren and partakers of the heavenly calling.

[5] 1 Corinthians 1:2 Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

  • We are called to be saints already. We have called upon the name of Jesus Christ.
  • “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” We have believed and called.
  • This means we are sanctified or saved from our sins. He has made us clean. He has made us holy.

That’s why we are going to heaven no matter what. We already have everlasting life.

  • And if it’s everlasting life, this means our life will never end. Our soul will never die.
  • This is the basics of salvation, and a basic doctrine taught throughout the Bible.
  • So, please don’t think the Book of Hebrews is teaching a works based salvation. God doesn’t teach that.

[6] Hebrews 3:2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.

  • Verse 2 of Hebrews Chapter 3 is talking about Jesus Christ there at the beginning.
  • Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was faithful to His Father and to God who appointed Him Savior of the world.
  • Jesus says in John Chapter 6, “For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me.”
  • And the will of God is that people will believe on His Son and receive everlasting life.
  • Jesus Christ did His job perfectly and faithfully. “As also Moses was faithful in all his house.”

So, listen, this is a more advanced doctrine that you need to understand as you read through your Bible.

  • Moses was faithful in all his house, but he didn’t do everything perfectly as Jesus Christ did.
  • The law was given by Moses. But Moses himself didn’t keep the law perfectly as Jesus was able to do.
  • Even though Moses wasn’t perfect, he stayed faithful to God. When he sinned, he got back on track.

He didn’t run away and quit. When things got tough, Moses kept going. He had troubles.

  • If you don’t know the story of Moses, pay close attention when reading about him.
  • He killed a man. God sought to kill Moses at one point. He wasn’t a perfect man.
  • He suffered. He failed some trials. He passed some trials. He didn’t enter into the promised land.
  • The law of Moses wasn’t able to save Moses himself. This is why Moses himself needed Jesus Christ.
  • Moses had faith and was a saved man. Moses was faithful in all his house.
  • That is a quote from the Old Testament. Do you remember where this comes from? Let’s see.

[7] Numbers 12:4-5 And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out. 5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.

[8] Numbers 12:6-7 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. 7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.

  • God says, “My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.”
  • And then in the next verse, God says that He will speak to Moses mouth to mouth.
  • God says to Aaron and Miriam, “Wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?”
  • And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Aaron and Miriam.

Moses was faithful to God. He wasn’t perfect. God knows you aren’t perfect. You will mess up at times.

  • You will fail at times. But God picks you back up because you are faithful. You get up and keep going.
  • Don’t depart from the faith. You’re saved already, but it’s highly important you keep working for God.
  • Even though Moses messed up at times, you can see that God was pleased with him.
  • He kept the faith. He kept going. He got discouraged at times. But he didn’t quit. And God was on his side.

[9] Deuteronomy 4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.

  • Notice what Moses does with his life. “I have taught you statutes and judgements.”
  • He taught what God commanded him to teach. He told the people to keep God’s words. DO THEM.
  • That’s what the Book of Hebrews is teaching us. We’re saved. Now, go and do what God says to do.

Just as the Book of James teaches us: “Be a doer of the work. Be a doer of the law.”

  • The Book of James was written to the saved and is now giving instructions of what to do after salvation.
  • False preachers will attempt to use these books to teach a works based salvation. THIS IS EVIL.
  • James doesn’t teach a works based salvation. Hebrews doesn’t teach a works based salvation.
  • They confuse good works with salvation even though the Bible says that salvation is not of works.
  • And the Book of Hebrews is teaching the importance of doing good works but not for salvation.

Moses was faithful in all his house and kept the faith. He sinned. He wasn’t a perfect man.

  • But he taught others to follow God’s commandments. This is what God wants from us.
  • We don’t preach that it’s okay to sin because you’ve already been saved. It’s not okay to sin.
  • Will you go to heaven if you’ve been saved and forsake God’s commandments?
  • Yes, but you better be careful because God can and will make your life a living hell.
  • And the Book of Hebrews is going to teach us all of these things.
  • This is a guide book for after you’re already saved.

[10] Hebrews 3:3 For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.

  • Jesus Christ was counted worthy of MORE GLORY than Moses. Why is that?
  • Moses is compared to the house. Jesus is the builder of that house. Jesus is the builder of the faith.
  • That would be the faith of Moses, and the faith of you and I. Jesus delivers. Our faith grows.
  • Faith comes from Jesus Christ. All the honor and glory goes to our Lord Jesus Christ.

[11] Zechariah 6:12-13 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: 13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

  • This is prophecy that speaks of THE BRANCH or Jesus Christ. He builds the temple of the Lord.
  • Man thinks of physical things when God speaks of spiritual things. Jesus is our spiritual house.

[12] 1 Peter 2:4-6 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

  • Jesus is the living stone. Physical stones aren’t alive on this earth. We’re talking spiritual stones.
  • Jesus is our Rock. He is the chief corner stone in which all other stones are laid.
  • We are lively stones in Jesus Christ. We are built up into His house, a spiritual house.

We offer up spiritual sacrifices that are acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Salvation comes through Him.

  • “And he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded.” Or ashamed.
  • Again, we simply believe in Jesus Christ. We put our faith in Him. And He saves us.
  • Moses is a part of this same spiritual house that we are a part of, but Jesus built this house.

[13] Hebrews 3:4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

  • And again, the Bible just told us that Jesus Christ built this house. “FOR THIS MAN” the Bible says.
  • We are speaking of Jesus. “But He that built all things is God.” So we know Jesus is God.
  • Jesus Christ built all things. “All things were created by Him and for Him.” Jesus is the Son of God and God.
  • When we see a physical house, we know some man built that house.
  • When we see this entire earth, heavens, sun, moon, and stars, WE KNOW THERE IS A BUILDER.
  • And we know that builder to be God and Jesus Christ.

[14] Hebrews 3:5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;

  • Again, we see that Moses TRULY WAS faithful in ALL HIS HOUSE.
  • Moses was a servant of God. What does this mean?

[15] Matthew 24:45 Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord hath made ruler over his household, to give them meat in due season?

  • Moses would give the people what they needed. He gave them spiritual meat from the word of God.

[16] 1 Timothy 1:12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;

  • All of us are to be in the ministry. We all need to be preaching the Gospel.
  • Listen, we will never be happy and joyful UNTIL we are preaching the Gospel and all of God’s words.
  • If you want joy, you’ll never find it until you’re doing what God has called you to do.
  • And I’m not talking about making things up. I’m talking about God’s calling for you to preach the Gospel.
  • “For that He counted me faithful.”

If you want to be a faithful servant like Moses and Timothy, we must preach God’s words.

  • House to house. Two by two. Daily, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
  • This is what God has called us to do. He says so in the Bible. And we need to be His servants.
  • We want God to call us faithful in all our house as God called Moses faithful in all his house.
  • Moses spoke all the word of God. And he was a prophet.

Many of the things in the law of Moses were pictures of things to come.

  • The Passover, for example, was a picture of the blood of Jesus Christ saving us.
  • The passover lamb was a burnt offering. The soul of Jesus Christ went to hell as a burnt offering.
  • His soul was not left in hell. Let’s keep going in Hebrews Chapter 3.

[17] Hebrews 3:6 But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

  • We’ve already established with hundreds of Scriptures that we are already saved.
  • The Bible is already speaking to saved people. The first verse told us this.
  • But, again, we’re going to learn how important it is to HOLD FAST the confidence we have.
  • We need to hold this confidence and hope firm unto the end. DON’T STOP WORKING FOR GOD.

Be a faithful servant. What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • That’s the end of salvation, but that’s not the end of everything. WE NEED TO WORK FOR GOD NOW.
  • We don’t just get our salvation and stop. Don’t you want to be a part of the house of God?
  • Saul was a saved man, but he stopped following Jesus Christ. And he paid for it.
  • Again, we need to hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
  • There’s nothing better than holding fast the WORDS THAT GOD HAS SPOKEN TO US.

[18] Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

  • Peter was a saved man right there. Peter had faith in Jesus Christ. He walked on water.
  • Then he feared and fell. Jesus picked him up and saved him physically. He was already saved spiritually.
  • Then Peter denied Jesus Christ. We don’t want to deny Jesus Christ. We’re still His people.
  • Even though Jesus knew these things about Peter, He said after Peter’s confession:
  • “That thou are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.” We are all rocks in the house of Christ.
  • Knowing these things, HEY, keep the faith. Endure to the end. Hold fast the confidence.

[19] Hebrews 3:7-11 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

  • Verses 7 through 11 there come from the Psalm Chapter 95. Listen closely.

[20] Psalm 95:7-11 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my work. 10 Forty years long was I grieved with this generation, and said, It is a people that do err in their heart, and they have not known my ways: 11 Unto whom I sware in my wrath that they should not enter into my rest.

  • Moses had a lot of trouble with those people. You can read about it.
  • At one point, Moses even said, “I am not able to bear this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.”
  • “And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee.” God had much trouble with these people.
  • Moses even sinned against God because he was frustrated with those people.

We don’t want to be like this. God proved Himself to those people. They saw His works with their eyes.

  • He was grieved with that generation 40 years. Moses didn’t enter into the promised land.
  • Joshua and Caleb entered into the promised land. The next generation did as Joshua commanded.
  • But then we know what happens next. The Book of Judges. Back and forth.

We don’t want to be back and forth. We want to be firm, constant, and steady for God.

  • The parable of the sower teaches us these things.
  • There are saved people, but then there are saved people who follow Jesus Christ.
  • They are together with Him in His house. He is the leader of that house, and they follow Him.

[21] Numbers 14:20-22 And the LORD said, I have pardoned according to thy word: 21 But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD. 22 Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

[22] Numbers 14:23-24 Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it: 24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

  • Because of the people, Moses didn’t see the promised land. He went to heaven.
  • But think about you and the house you live in. At home and in this church.
  • If you cause trouble, you’re hurting everyone around you. You cause others to sin too.
  • You don’t want to be like that. We are to love each other by doing what God says.
  • Don’t make these people or other Christians fall because of the hardness of your heart.

And yes, saved people can get hardened hearts. THEY ARE SAVED ALREADY.

  • God can harden hearts before people are saved because they hardened their heart.
  • As a saved person, you can harden your heart against God and stiffen your neck.
  • It won’t end up good. Many of the children of Israel did these things. Many are in heaven now.

Why would you want to do this, though? It won’t end up good. I’ll tell you that right now.

  • Remember, the Book of Hebrews is a more advanced guide to people who are already saved.
  • Listen to what God is teaching because you don’t want to do these same things.

[23] Hebrews 3:12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

  • Again, you can see that this is speaking to brethren or saved people. “Take heed, brethren.”
  • Take heed my brothers and sisters IN Jesus Christ. Hey, be careful out there.
  • Hello people all over the world: “TAKE HEED. BE CAREFUL.” You might turn your heart away from God.
  • You might have an evil heart of unbelief in you IF you don’t take heed. Don’t depart from the living God.
  • And what would make you depart from the living God?

Let’s say you’ve believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. You went and got baptized in a good church.

  • You wanted to follow Jesus Christ. But you stopped going to church.
  • You stopped reading the Bible. You stopped praying to God. You stopped repenting of sin.

You departed from the living God. Let’s say you don’t have a good church that you attend physically.

  • And yes, church is a physical gathering together of believers. If you don’t have that, TAKE HEED.
  • You might just depart from the living God. And you don’t want to do that.
  • And to show you how important a good church happens to be, listen to the next Scripture.

[24] Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

  • How are you, brethren, going to exhort or encourage one another daily if you don’t have a good church?
  • This is the same Book of Hebrews that commands you to not forsake the assembling of yourselves.
  • And yes, this is speaking to the Holy brethren. EXHORT ONE ANOTHER DAILY. This is a commandment.
  • The people in churches should be doing these things. And, of course, this doesn’t save your soul.
  • But this does prevent the hardening of your heart through the deceitfulness of sin.

Having people around who love God and follow God will prevent you from sinning against God.

  • When you’re in church, winning souls, singing to the Lord, congregating with believers, you aren’t sinning.
  • When you’re being encouraged to read the Bible and pray for your fellow brethren, you aren’t sinning.
  • You aren’t going to depart from the living God so easily when your brethren are there to help you.
  • If you don’t have them around physically, you need to go find a good church now. When?
  • WHILE IT IS CALLED TODAY!!! Not tomorrow. Do you understand? Yes, it’s that important. IT IS.

[25] Hebrews 3:14-15 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; 15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

  • We are made partakers of Christ IF we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end.
  • And again, the Bible says: “Today if ye will hear His voice.” Each day we are to follow Him.
  • TODAY we are to follow Him. Tomorrow we are to follow Him. We are not to harden our hearts.
  • Being a partaker of Christ is something that happens each day. WE ARE TO DIE DAILY TO OUR FLESH.

King Saul decided not to do this. He was not a partaker of Christ. The Spirit of God, not the indwelling, left him.

  • King David decided to do this. He sinned as we all do. But he repented of that sin and kept going.
  • Moses sinned, but he kept going for God. King Solomon didn’t do so well.
  • When he was old, his wives turned away his heart after other gods.

[26] 1 Kings 11:4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

  • Do you see the difference? Solomon went to heaven but he was not partaking with God at that point.
  • There is a day of salvation. And then that day is past. There is a day of baptism in water.
  • And then that day is past. Then there’s tomorrow. Then there’s the next day, next week, next month.
  • Next year, next 5 years, next 10 years, and so on. EACH DAY WE MUST HEAR GOD’S WORDS.
  • We need to be partakers with Christ from now until forever.

You want to be like Moses, David, Daniel, and Paul. Endure to the end. Keep the faith. Hold fast. Be stedfast.

  • You don’t want to fall back. You don’t want to go after other gods. You don’t want the world to take over.
  • Saul went the wrong way as the king of Israel, and he ended up dead. He went to heaven.
  • You don’t want to end up like Solomon and going after other gods. There are saved people who do this.
  • The examples are within the Bible. There is Ananias and Sapphira. Don’t end up like that.

Now, listen, there are rewards for partaking in Christ daily. And you can lose those rewards.

  • You can lose your life. Or, you can keep the faith and endure to the end and gain rewards.
  • For example, enduring through trials gets you a crown of life. You already have eternal life.
  • But you earn the reward of the crown of life. This is on top of eternal life.

[27] James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

  • If you love Jesus, you follow His commandments. He says, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
  • And yes, you mess up and you are not perfect. But Jesus Christ is perfect.
  • When you mess up, don’t let it take you down further. Get up and get back on the right track.
  • Endure temptations. Endure trials. He promises you the crown of life. Remember that.

[28] Revelation 2:10 Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.

  • We see that Jesus promised this to the church at Smyrna. The crown of life is a reward.

[29] 2 John 8 Look to yourselves, that we lose not those things which we have wrought, but that we receive a full reward.

  • You can lose all your rewards if you act like Saul now that you’re saved and in Jesus Christ.
  • If you’re saved and not following Jesus Christ, you will not have a good relationship with Him.
  • He will not be pleased with you. Don’t lose all the rewards. RECEIVE A FULL REWARD.

[30] 1 Corinthians 3:11-13 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

  • There will be a day in which all your works will be examined. FOR THE DAY SHALL DECLARE IT.
  • That day is not yet here. But it’s coming. The fire will try every man’s work. Is it good or bad?

[31] 1 Corinthians 3:14-15 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.

  • King Saul can be this example of loss. His work shall be burned. He shall suffer loss.
  • “But he himself shall be saved.” If you’re saved by grace through faith, salvation is not of works.
  • This Scripture proves that. But your works are important. NOT FOR SALVATION.
  • Your works are important after salvation. Do you want to be the poor man in heaven?

You might say, “Well, I’m happy with heaven. I don’t care.” That’s wicked. That means you didn’t help anyone.

  • You’re not doing it for yourself. You’re doing the works for others. THIS IS IMPORTANT.
  • God says so. God cares. Why do you not care? God wants you to care. He gave you these works to do.

[32] Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

  • We were created in Christ Jesus into good works. Salvation is not of works.
  • But after salvation, we are to work very hard for Jesus Christ. WE SHOULD WALK IN THOSE WORKS.
  • We are to partake with Jesus Christ in doing these good works daily. Do them daily.
  • Partake with Christ and with your brethren. Don’t make God angry with you so that He says:
  • “Get away from me.” You might end up dead soon if you want to go against your Father in heaven.
  • Don’t provoke God. You can see what happened when the people provoked Him.

[33] Hebrews 3:16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.

  • Not all of the children of Israel provoked God but some did. Some were saved and provoked God.
  • People can be unsaved and provoke God, or they can be saved and provoke God.
  • Who do you think gets the bigger punishment in this life? Be very careful.

[34] Numbers 14:11-12 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long will this people provoke me? and how long will it be ere they believe me, for all the signs which I have shewed among them? 12 I will smite them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.

  • You can see what happened to those people. They died in the wilderness. Joshua and Caleb didn’t.
  • You want to be like Joshua and Caleb. Trust God. Believe what He says. Do what He says.
  • When we won’t follow what God says, we’ll die in this wilderness of a world.
  • This world wants you dead. God doesn’t want you dead. Follow the world, and die.
  • Follow Jesus Christ and partake in Jesus Christ. Don’t be afraid.

[35] Hebrews 3:17-19 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness? 18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that believed not? 19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.

  • If you’re paying attention to Hebrews Chapter 3, we know this is speaking to saved people.
  • We know for a fact, based on God’s words, that saved people cannot believe at times.
  • They can depart from the living God because of an evil heart of unbelief. The Bible says so.
  • The Bible commands the saved to “HARDEN NOT YOUR HEARTS.” Don’t provoke God by doing so.

Don’t pray to God, wait for years, and when it doesn’t happen, blame it all on God.

  • Sometimes the answers to your prayers take longer or maybe He isn’t going to answer your prayer.
  • He might say, “My grace is sufficient for thee,” as He did with the Apostle Paul.
  • You don’t get everything you want when you want it. Be humble to God. Wait on the Lord.
  • Don’t harden your hearts and not believe that He’s there or that He will do what He says.

[36] 2 Timothy 2:10-13 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: 12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: 13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

  • Reality shows you that you can be saved and not believe at times. The Bible teaches this.
  • You don’t want to do this. THIS IS WICKED AND EVIL.
  • If you deny Jesus, do you think your prayers will be answered? He will deny your prayers.
  • If you want to test Him and tempt Him, you aren’t going to get His help. You’ll get evil back.
  • If you believe not, yet He abideth faithful. He doesn’t break His promises.

He knew Peter would deny Him. He had already given Peter eternal life by grace through faith.

  • Peter didn’t earn it. He knew Peter would be afraid when walking on the water. He knew Peter would fall.
  • He knows we will fall at times. But He’s teaching us to get right back up and follow Him.
  • Do you understand these things? Don’t take Scripture in the Bible and trip all over it.
  • Don’t act like the Book of Hebrews is teaching that you can lose everlasting life. That is impossible.
  • Everlasting life is forever and you receive that gift once you believe in Jesus Christ.

The children of Israel in the wilderness is a physical picture of spiritual things.

  • Moses didn’t physically enter into the promised land. But he went to the promised land spiritually.
  • God is showing us how important it is to follow Him each day. Endure to the end. Keep the faith.
  • Don’t stop working for Him. Our faith is made perfect through works that we do in faith.
  • Works done in faith leads to more faith. For example, reading and believing the Bible leads to faith.
  • If you won’t believe what God says, you won’t enter into His rest.

For example, when I believed that the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell as He says, I enter into His rest.

  • It’s easier to understand the words of the Bible now. This is restful and peaceful. I know the truth.
  • If I didn’t know the truth, this is not restful to me. I need the truth. Then I am at rest.
  • Not believing your Creator will not be peaceful. King Saul was not at peace. He was bothered.

So, remember that there are the unsaved that never believe. And there’s the saved who will not believe at times.

  • There will be the saved who sin, as we all do, but get back up and start doing things right.
  • We mess up again. We try to do better next time. We hate the sin that we do.
  • We focus on the good works. We continue reading the Bible. We continue going to church.
  • We continue winning souls to Christ. We continue teaching all things. We continue to baptize.
  • We continue to pray. We sin. We don’t allow it to take us the wrong way. We hate it.
  • The Book of Hebrews is teaching us all of those things so we don’t end up like the others.

Let’s pray.
