[2] The title of the sermon today is “JOHN CHAPTER 6.”

Jesus Healed A Man With An Infirmity of 38 Years

  • In John Chapter 5, we saw Jesus heal a man with an infirmity of 38 years.
  • We see the Jews get angry because Jesus healed the man on the Sabbath day.
  • The Jews added their own rules to God’s rules just as many so-called Christian denominations today.
  • They accused Jesus, the one who made the rules, of not following His own rules.
  • But we all know that Jesus didn’t break His own rules. Jesus never did anything wrong.
  • We see Jesus preaching to those Jews who are seeking to kill Jesus.

[3] John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

  • Jesus does His best to get them to listen. He’s giving them the way to everlasting life.
  • There’s only one way there. Simply believe on God Almighty to save you, and He will.
  • You can’t believe on God to save you and not believe in both God the Father and the Son of God.
  • You can’t have one without the other. They are two separate and distinct persons of the one true God.
  • We see that Jesus has another witness greater than any man and that is God the Father.
  • John Chapter 5 ends with Jesus preaching to the Jews who want to kill Him.

[4] John 6:1 After these things Jesus went over the sea of Galilee, which is the sea of Tiberias.

  • Sometime after Jesus preached to the Jews in Jerusalem, He goes over the sea of Galilee or Tiberias.
  • To start here in John Chapter 6, we see Jesus is now far away from Jerusalem and is now in the North.

[5]

  • The sea of Galilee or Lake Tiberias is the lowest freshwater lake on Earth.
  • It’s the second lowest lake in the world after the Dead Sea, which is a saltwater lake.
  • It’s nearly 700 feet below sea level, about 13 miles long, 8 miles wide, and maximum depth of 141 feet.

[6] John 6:2-3 And a great multitude followed him, because they saw his miracles which he did on them that were diseased. 3 And Jesus went up into a mountain, and there he sat with his disciples.

  • Jesus has all of these people following Him. Why? Because they saw the miracles that He did.
  • Jesus was healing people that were diseased the Bible says. His disciples were there with Him.
  • And what does Jesus do? He gets away from the crowd of people by going up into a mountain.
  • He’s now alone with just His disciples. You’ll see that Jesus does this a lot in the Bible.
  • Why? Well, you’ll see that Jesus always reduces the crowds through His preaching.

People who don’t want to hear the truth will leave. People who aren’t true believers will leave.

  • People who aren’t true followers of Jesus Christ will leave.
  • And remember, He already knows who is in the crowd.

[7] John 6:4 And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.

  • So Jesus is up in the mountain with his twelve disciples. Picture this as we continue.
  • The Passover is nigh or near and is always the 14th day of the first month in the Jewish calendar.
  • Remember, their first month is in our March-April time frame.
  • So this shows about the time of year these things are happening.

[8] John 6:5-6 When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat? 6 And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

  • Jesus lifts up His eyes from up on the mountain and sees all of these people coming unto Him.
  • Philip is one of the original twelve disciples.
  • Jesus looks at Philip and says, “Where are we going to get bread to feed all of these people?”
  • Jesus already knew the answer to that, but He’s asking Philip to prove Philip. It’s a test.
  • Yes, God will test you in your life. What are you going to do? Pass or fail. Let’s see what Philip says.

[9] John 6:7 Philip answered him, Two hundred pennyworth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may take a little.

  • Philip is saying, “Even if we had two hundred pennyworth of bread, we couldn’t feed all these people.”
  • What’s a penny in Bible language? It’s not the same as what we think of today. Let’s see.

[10] Matthew 20:2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard.

  • A penny is a day’s wages. So, let’s say $10 per hour times 10 hours of work in a day or about $100 per day.
  • Philip says, “If we had two hundred days of wages, we couldn’t feed these people.”
  • In other words, if we had $20,000 worth of bread, we don’t have enough because there’s so many people.
  • They wouldn’t even get a little bit to eat with that much money. So there’s a lot of people.
  • Now, I want you to know that this same story can be seen in the 3 other Gospels.
  • Matthew Chapter 14, Mark Chapter 6, and Luke Chapter 9. How many people were there?

[11] Matthew 14:21 And they that had eaten were about five thousand men, beside women and children.

  • So we have 5,000 men not including women and children. So you could guess 10,000 to 15,000 in total.
  • That’s a lot of people, and it’s important to see that as we continue in John Chapter 6.

[12] John 6:8-9 One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him, 9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?

  • Another one of the original twelve disciples, Andrew, tells Jesus that a lad or a young man had some food.
  • This young man has five loaves of barley bread and two SMALL fishes. But they have thousands to feed.
  • Andrew says, “But what is this small amount of food for so many people?”

Jesus Made The Men To Sit Down

[13] John 6:10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

  • We see that the Gospels agree, as expected, on the number of people.
  • 5,000 men not including women and children.
  • The men are the leaders of each household so they are counted in that way.
  • Jesus commands the multitude of people to sit down on the grass. It wasn’t the desert sand here.

[14] Mark 6:39-40 And he commanded them to make all sit down by companies upon the green grass. 40 And they sat down in ranks, by hundreds, and by fifties.

  • Jesus does things in order as you’ll see all throughout the Bible. Sit down by companies in ranks.
  • The men are the leaders of the home as the Bible tells us so the men were counted to be about 5,000.

[15] John 6:11-12 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would. 12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.

  • Jesus takes 5 loaves of barley bread and 2 fishes and feeds all the people.
  • And it wasn’t just a small snack. “When they were filled” verse 12 says. They were filled.
  • And then this is the amazing part. He says to the disciples, “Gather up the leftovers so nothing is lost.”

[16] John 6:13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.

  • With the leftovers of the 5 loaves of bread, 12 baskets are filled. Everyone was satisfied and filled.
  • This isn’t some small miracle. Do you know how much food it takes to feed thousands of people?
  • There were 5,000 grown men. We don’t eat small amounts of food. These people were hungry too.
  • Have you seen how much bread Gary eats? He eats bread. Pounds of bread. Just kidding.

But really, think about just 8 ounces of fish per man or half a pound of fish.

  • That’s 2,500 pounds of fish for just the men not including the women and children.
  • And children eat more than the men sometimes. Younger boys can eat the food too.
  • So, we’re talking about thousands of pounds of fish alone not including the bread. Think about that.
  • Do you remember what Elisha did in 2 Kings Chapter 4?

[17] 2 Kings 4:42-43 And there came a man from Baal-shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley, and full ears of corn in the husk thereof. And he said, Give unto the people, that they may eat. 43 And his servitor said, What, should I set this before an hundred men? He said again, Give the people, that they may eat: for thus saith the LORD, They shall eat, and shall leave thereof.

  • Elisha has 20 loaves of barley and some ears of corn for 100 men.
  • Jesus had 5 loaves of barely and 2 small fishes for thousands of men, women, and children.

[18] 2 Kings 4:44 So he set it before them, and they did eat, and left thereof, according to the word of the LORD.

  • Elisha did a similar miracle to Jesus according to the word of the Lord but not close to what Jesus did.

[19] John 6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

  • The Old Testament speaks of Jesus “THE” prophet. Deuteronomy Chapter 18 is quoted in Acts Chapter 3.

[20] Acts 3:22-23 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

  • If you won’t hear what Jesus says, you will be destroyed in hell.
  • If you won’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you, hell is the destination.
  • In John Chapter 6, the people saw this miracle from Jesus and they said, “THIS IS THAT PROPHET.”
  • This miracle teaches us that all we have to do is give God a little. They gave Him a little bread and fish.

We Never Have Enough

We’re always saying and thinking things like:

  • I don’t have enough money. I don’t have a good enough job. I don’t have a good enough car.
  • I don’t have a good enough house. I don’t know enough about the Bible to tell people about Jesus.
  • I’m not smart enough. I’m not strong enough. I can’t do this. I can’t do that.
  • Get over those things. GET OVER IT. Let all of that go. You have God Almighty on your side now.

“Well, if I do this, I might lose my job. If I do that, I’ll lose some money.”

  • Who cares? God is going to take care of you now. What else do you need?
  • Show God you’re willing to stand up for Him and give Him a little. Watch what He’ll do.
  • He’ll multiply it just enough to get done what He needs to get done. It’s His will. Not ours.
  • You should be saying, “Hey God, what do you need from me?” Not, “Hey God, what can I get from you?”
  • Jesus says, “Give me those 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fishes, and I’ll feed thousands with it.”

Yes, that’s what God can do and He can do much greater things than these.

  • And my life is proof of that. Every time I’ve given a little to God, He amazes me.
  • And I’m not talking about just money. I’m talking about standing up for God and doing what He asks.
  • I’m talking about trusting God. All we have to do is follow what He asks, and it always ends up best.
  • And when it’s over, there’s going to be some left over too. And you’ll say, “WOW!!! God is amazing.”

[21] John 6:15 When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

  • Jesus doesn’t need us to come and take Him and make Him a king on this earth. He is THE KING already.
  • This time He goes up into a mountain alone and gets away from everyone.
  • Why? He already knew their thoughts. He knew what the people were thinking.
  • He gave them food to eat when they were hungry. “Hey, if we make Him King, we’ll never be hungry.”
  • God’s will wasn’t for those people to take Jesus and make Him a king. So Jesus departed.

[22] John 6:16-18 And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea, 17 And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them. 18 And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

  • Even is evening or about 6 PM. It’s getting dark. His disciples are alone without Jesus.
  • They come down to the sea of Galilee and go over towards Capernaum which is North of that sea.
  • Now it’s dark. Jesus is still not with them. The sea gets a little crazy because of a great wind.

[23] John 6:19-21 So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid. 20 But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid. 21 Then they willingly received him into the ship: and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.

  • Many of these disciples are fisherman. They’re accustomed to the water.
  • They’re rowing the ship along. They’re out in the sea about 25 to 35 furlongs. A furlong is 1/8 miles.
  • So they’re out in this sea of Galilee about 3 to 4 miles.
  • If you remember, this sea is about 13 miles long and about 8 miles wide. They’re out in the middle.

Jesus Walks On The Water

They see Jesus walking on the sea. They aren’t close to the shore. He isn’t walking in a couple feet of water.

  • Why do you think the Bible tells us the number of furlongs they rowed? They’re in the middle of this sea.
  • And this is a fresh water sea. There’s not salt that holds you up in the water. It’s fresh water.
  • Jesus walks on the fresh water sea. He comes close to the ship, and yeah, they were afraid.
  • You and I wouldn’t be any different. If we saw someone walking on the water, it would scare us.
  • But Jesus says, “It is I. Be not afraid.” When they knew it was Jesus, they welcomed Him onto the ship.
  • And what do you see right there at the end of verse 21?
  • “Immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.” That’s another miracle only God could do.
  • No more rowing for miles. The ship was immediately at the place they needed to be.

[24] John 6:22-23 The day following, when the people which stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was none other boat there, save that one whereinto his disciples were entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples were gone away alone; 23 (Howbeit there came other boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they did eat bread, after that the Lord had given thanks:)

  • The people knew that Jesus didn’t get into those boats with the disciples.
  • There were other boats that went a different direction, but the boat the disciples took was the only one in that area.

[25] John 6:24 When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.

  • They weren’t looking for the disciples. They were looking for Jesus. They looked elsewhere.
  • They knew Jesus didn’t get into that boat with the disciples so they thought He wasn’t there.

[26] John 6:25 And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

  • They finally found Him on the other side of the sea. They knew He couldn’t get there walking.
  • “Rabbi or Teacher, how did you get over here?”

[27] John 6:26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

  • Jesus tells us nothing but the truth. He tells us that these people only sought Him because of the food.
  • They weren’t looking for miracles. They enjoyed the free food. They ate. It was good. It was free.
  • They wanted more. They wanted to make Him King because they knew they wouldn’t starve.
  • In other words, they were getting something from Jesus that benefited them. They wanted more.
  • Yeah, people will show up when you give out free food.

Church Isn’t For Your Fleshly Desires

People will show up to church when you entertain them, give them free child care, free gym, basketball courts, and feed them.

  • Not all people come to church to worship God. Not all people in church love God.
  • When you go to a church for selfish reasons, God isn’t happy with that.
  • Did you know many people choose a church so they get something out of everyone else?
  • “Well, you should go to that church because of all the influential people there.”
  • “If you go to that church, they’ll help you with your business. You’ll make more money.”
  • Some people choose a church for child care. The church will take care of your children.
  • Well, you better not trust anyone at church with your children. Have you seen what’s happened?

Instead of going to church for yourself, you should go to church first for God Almighty.

  • And then what else should you do? Go to church for others instead of yourself.
  • Look to help someone else instead trying to gain for yourself and your fleshly desires.

[28] John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

  • Jesus says, “STOP going after the things that perish. STOP feeding your fleshly desires.”
  • Instead, go after those things that have everlasting significance. Go after that meat Jesus says.
  • And who gives everlasting life?
  • “But for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you.”
  • The Son of man is Jesus Christ. Why does He give everlasting life? Because God the Father chose Him.
  • “For HIM hath God the Father sealed.” That’s talking about Jesus Christ.
  • The Son of God has the Father’s seal of approval. He has sealed Him as “THE” Savior.

[29] John 6:28-29 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

  • If you want to do the works of God, what does God say you should do?
  • Simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. God sent Jesus Christ to be the Savior of this world.
  • Once again, salvation is not of works. You can’t work for it. Jesus says so right there.
  • They said, “We want to do the work of God.” Jesus said, “The work of God is believing on Him.”
  • If you believe on Jesus to save you, you can know that God is pleased with you.

[30] John 6:30-31 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? 31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

  • So they say to Jesus, “We’ll believe you IF you show us a sign.”
  • They say, “Our fathers ate manna in the desert. That manna was from heaven.”
  • God fed those people with a special food from heaven that no one had ever seen.
  • They wanted to see something like that. Do you realize what they just saw?
  • Jesus just fed thousands of people with 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fishes.
  • What else do they want to see? That’s not enough. How about you in your life?
  • God does something miraculous for you, takes care of you, feeds you, and it’s not enough.
  • We always want more. Nothing God does for us is never enough. Don’t be like that.

[31] Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

  • We’re to be happy with food and clothing. But Paul says right there, “No matter what state you’re in right now, you should be happy.”
  • He says, “I’ve learned that lesson.” If you read and study the Bible, you should know not to complain.

[32] Proverbs 19:23 The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

  • If you fear the Lord, you won’t want more fleshly desires. You won’t need a sign from God.
  • You will be satisfied with the eternal life that God has given you. Be happy with that.
  • You’re going to live forever. All of the things in this world don’t matter at all. Heavenly things matter.
  • These people were still looking for more after Jesus had already shown them enough.
  • Keep in mind that these are the Jews. They said, “Our fathers did eat manna in the desert.”

[33] John 6:32-33 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

  • Moses can’t give the bread from heaven. God the Father can, though. He gives us heavenly bread.
  • He just fed thousands with bread. Now He’s telling them about the heavenly bread.
  • This is the bread that gives LIFE unto the world. And what do you think that bread is?
  • If you want to live forever, you need this bread. You don’t need manna. You don’t need Dave’s bread.
  • You need the heavenly bread.

[34] John 6:34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

  • They’re smart people. Most people would want heavenly bread. Most people would want everlasting life.
  • These people said, “Lord, evermore give us this bread.”

[35] John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

  • Notice what Jesus Christ says. “I am the bread of life. He that cometh to me shall NEVER hunger.”
  • “He that believeth on me shall NEVER thirst.” How can so-called “Christian” denominations say different?
  • They say, “Oh yeah, you can lose your salvation.” WRONG. Jesus says NEVER.

[36] John 6:36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

  • The Savior of the world was standing right in front of them. He showed them who He was.
  • He told them who He was. It didn’t matter. They have seen Him and believe not. Jesus says so.
  • People will say, “Well, if God would just prove to me that He’s there.”
  • “If Jesus would just prove to me that He’s real.” Hey, what else do you need?
  • You’re living right now. God gives you breath each day.

Jesus Isn’t Like The Manna That Feeds You Once

Jesus is telling them that He’s not like the manna that God sent from heaven. He is the bread of everlasting life.

  • That manna disappeared. That manna didn’t give them everlasting life. It just satisfied their hunger.
  • So why did God feed them the manna from heaven? Well, let’s see why in Deuteronomy Chapter 8.

[37] Deuteronomy 8:2-3 And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. 3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

  • God made them hungry. God humbled them. God fed them manna. But why?
  • “That he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only.”
  • “But by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.”
  • Did you know that manna is similar to reading your Bible?
  • The words in the Bible came from the mouth of God. The word of God is bread to your life right now.

The people would get up early and gather that manna so they could live another day. They were hungry.

  • God will make you hungry. God will test you. God will humble you if you need it and most people do.
  • Will you get up early and gather manna? Will you get up early and read the word of God?
  • Do you know the power in His words? They will change your life for the best. Find God in these words.
  • You can’t live with the things of this world, but you can live by the word of God.
  • And you need it every day. Don’t read the Bible once a week, once a month. You need it DAILY.
  • You need it multiple times per day. If you’re not doing that, you’ll go away from God. You don’t want that.
  • If you believe Jesus is who He says He is, you will read the Bible.
  • If you truly believe He’s the one whose going to save you, you’ll read what He says.

[38] John 6:37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

  • Has God called you to Him? Have you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ?
  • Jesus says, “If you come to me I will in no wise cast you out.” He won’t throw you out of heaven.
  • He won’t take salvation away like the false churches teach. He says so. Not me. He says it.

[39] John 6:38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

  • Jesus didn’t come to do His own will. He is a different person than God the Father.
  • Different people have different wills.
  • But Jesus came from heaven meaning He is God, but He isn’t the Father.
  • Jesus will do the will of the Father. HIS FATHER. Jesus is not God the Father. What is the Father’s will?

[40] John 6:39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

  • The will of God the Father is that NO SAVED PERSON should lose everlasting life.
  • “That of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing.” If you’re saved, you are in the hands of Jesus.
  • You are HIS. Jesus says, “I won’t lose you.” He knows where you are. But the Father says so too.
  • If you’re saved, you will receive a new body. Jesus will raise your body from the dead at the resurrection.
  • “I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.”

[41] John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.

  • The Father’s will is that every one who seeth the Son and believeth on him may have everlasting life.
  • He’s standing right there in front of those people. They’re seeing Him right there.
  • All they have to do to receive the bread of everlasting life is believe on Jesus to save them.
  • They don’t have to do anything else. He’s standing right in front of them. Simply believe on Jesus.
  • And they don’t have to even say anything. Jesus already knows their thoughts.

They didn’t have to speak. They didn’t have to move. They didn’t have to be baptized.

  • They didn’t have to cry. Jesus didn’t play a slow song and tell them to come up to the altar.
  • Jesus says, “Every one that seeth the Son, and believeth on Him, may have everlasting life.”
  • And Jesus will raise you up at the last day. It’s that simple. There are no other requirements.
  • BELEIVING ON HIM is what saves each and every person.
  • Every person in heaven gets there the exact same way.

It’s Not Difficult To Be Saved

Notice it’s not difficult to eat bread. They didn’t have any trouble at all eating that bread Jesus fed them.

  • They loved that bread. Now He’s making this even easier. Just change your mind. It’s easy to be saved.
  • It’s easier to change your mind right now and believe than putting a piece of bread in your mouth.
  • Remember the Samaritan woman at the well? Jesus equated everlasting life to drinking water.
  • It’s even simpler than eating bread and drinking water. It’s just believing what God says.
  • The true Gospel of Jesus Christ is very simple. You can be saved and tell others how to be saved easily.
  • They wouldn’t believe Jesus was THE SAVIOR. Now watch what happens next.

[42] John 6:41-42 The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. 42 And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven?

  • Jesus is the bread that came down FROM HEAVEN. Jesus is from heaven.
  • We’re from the earth. Jesus is from heaven. He is the Son of God and is God Almighty.
  • But they won’t believe Jesus. They say, “This is just the son of Joseph. We know His Father and Mother.”
  • “How is this man going to say that He came down from heaven. Whatever.”
  • But they sure didn’t know that Joseph wasn’t the Father of Jesus.
  • They didn’t know that Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.

[43] John 6:43-44 Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves. 44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.

  • Here’s how being saved works. God calls you to Him. He draws you to Him.
  • Do you think He just chooses some people to call to Him? No, He gives everybody chances over and over.
  • God wants all to be saved. He gives all people chances to be saved.
  • God draws people to salvation, and you can reject God over and over again or give it up and accept Him.
  • Some people will say, “Well it’s not fair to people that never get to hear about Jesus.”
  • Well guess what? The Bible says that all people have no excuse because God draws all people to Him.

[44] Romans 1:20-21 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

  • It’s a scary thing when God Almighty draws you to Him, and you reject Him over and over again.
  • You become a fool. That’s foolish. Why would you reject the most powerful God you could imagine?

[45] Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

  • That Scripture is talking about God calling people to Him. Those people understand how to be saved.
  • The Holy Spirit is there showing them the truth. The light bulb comes on. They are enlightened.
  • And then they say, “Nope, I’m not going to be saved. I would rather go to hell than believe on Jesus.”

[46] Proverbs 1:23-26 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;

[47] Proverbs 1:27-30 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

  • You don’t want to be like that. When you have the chance to be saved, you better take it.
  • When God calls you to Him, it’s time to take it. You should say, “Yes, God. I believe on Jesus Christ.”
  • And it’s finished. You’re saved forevermore. You don’t have to do anything else to make it to heaven.
  • You should obey God now in order to make Him happy, but you will be in heaven no matter what.

[48] John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

  • Every person who God calls is taught of God. The Holy Spirit does His job. A preacher did His job.
  • I wouldn’t have made but for the Holy Spirit teaching me and a preacher doing the work God gave Him.
  • How shall they hear without a preacher? That’s why you’re here on Earth right now. To preach to others.
  • To tell others the truth. You do your part, and I guarantee you that God does His part.
  • “AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT OF GOD.” If you hear, you will come to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • You can reject Him all you want, and you’ll go to hell. But why would anyone do that?

[49] Jeremiah 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

  • If you’re hearing this sermon today, God is teaching you. He helped me write this sermon.
  • I didn’t do it on my own. He was there with me. And He’s there with you right now teaching you the Bible.
  • If you’re saved, you have the Holy Spirit living within you. He’s teaching you. Not me. I’m nothing.
  • HE IS GOD ALMIGHTY. He’ll take care of you. No one else can, but He can.

God’s Children Will Be Taught Of The Lord

[50] Isaiah 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

  • My only goal with my children is to make sure they know this Bible.
  • I’m going to my best, and I know God will do His best. He’ll take care of my children.
  • And they’re actually His children more than they are mine. And that is what gives me peace.
  • I know He will take care of them, and I know they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • I know that I’ll see them in heaven one day. “And great shall be the peace of thy children.”

[51] John 6:46 Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father.

  • Again, Jesus is not God the Father. NO MAN HATH SEEN THE FATHER. Jesus was standing right there.
  • He just told them is they SEE THE SON and believe on Him, they will receive everlasting life.
  • If Jesus were the Father and no man has ever seen the Father, that would be dumb for Jesus to say that.
  • But Jesus isn’t dumb. He said that because He is not the Father. But He’s seen the Father with His eyes.
  • No man or woman has seen the Father. Not one. Jesus says so.

[52] John 6:47-48 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life.

  • Jesus is THAT bread of life. There is no other bread of life.
  • If you want everlasting life, you better go to Jesus. What do you need to do? Believe on Him.
  • Simply believe that Jesus is the only one who can save you. “Yes Jesus, I believe you can save me.”
  • You have everlasting life if you believe that. If you believe He is THE SAVIOR, He’ll save you right now.

[53] John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.

  • I love that verse right there. That manna didn’t save anyone. They ate heavenly manna. They died.
  • They didn’t just die but they went to hell. That’s what Jesus is saying right there.
  • Manna didn’t save them. Nothing saves anyone BUT believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to save them.
  • Being one of the physical children of Israel didn’t save them. Jesus Christ alone saves. That’s it.

[54] John 6:50-51 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

  • These people are already offended at Jesus because He said that He came down from heaven.
  • He tells them that they can eat of the living bread, which is Jesus, and not die.
  • Now, He’s really going to offend them.
  • Yes, even at that time people were sensitive and would get offended at anything. It’s not just now.
  • Jesus says, “If any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever.”
  • “And the bread that I will give is MY FLESH, which I will for the life of the world.” Now watch next.

[55] John 6:52-53 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? 53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.

  • Now you can see why this is difficult for them to understand?
  • Jesus isn’t telling them to actually eat His flesh and drink His blood.
  • He hasn’t yet died on the cross. But He knows that day is coming.

[56] John 6:54-56 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

  • Now, do you think their offended? Of course they are. Jesus is trying to wake them up.
  • He’s saying that when you believe on Him, you’re eating of His flesh and drinking of His blood.
  • His flesh and His blood is the living bread of life. Jesus didn’t care they were already offended.
  • He took it even further. He didn’t care they were offended. He took it to the next level.

Jesus Didn’t Mean To Actually Eat His Flesh And Drink His Blood

But Jesus didn’t mean to actually eat His flesh and drink His blood. You never see that in the Bible.

  • The Catholic Church believes their communion supernaturally turns to the actual flesh and blood of Jesus.
  • That’s sick. Jesus didn’t mean that. The Old Testament teaches different. Jesus didn’t change that.

[57] Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

[58] Leviticus 3:17 It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood.

[59] Leviticus 7:27 Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.

  • And there’s much more Scripture than that. Jesus didn’t mean to eat flesh and drink blood.
  • Jesus wrote the Bible. He is God. He doesn’t contradict Himself. He said it this way to prove His point.

[60] John 6:57-59 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

  • You need to eat of Jesus by believing on Jesus Christ to save you. That’s what He means.
  • “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Believing on Jesus is eating the living bread.
  • You can do that right now by changing your mind. Jesus isn’t talking about the Lord’s Supper.
  • The Lord’s Supper is not actually eating flesh and drinking blood.
  • You don’t have to partake in communion or the Lord’s Supper to be saved. That’s not the living bread.
  • Taking in the word of God is eating of Jesus. Hear His words and live forever. Accept His words.

[61] Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

  • This doesn’t mean that we actually eat the word of God. We don’t pick up the Bible and actually eat it.
  • “Well, if I just ate all the pages of this book, I could live forever.” That’s not what God means.

[62] John 6:60-61 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you?

  • I love that part John Chapter 6. The disciples themselves were offended at the words of Jesus.
  • Yeah, Jesus just said that they should eat of His flesh and drink of His blood. That was offensive.
  • Jesus says, “Oh, does that offend you?” Did He say, “Let me change my words so they don’t offend you.”
  • No, Jesus already knew what He was doing and saying. He did it because that was His plan.
  • Sometimes we need to hear offensive things from the Bible. Yes, the Bible will offend you.
  • And I’ll preach every word in this Bible because I love them all. I don’t care if it’s offensive. God said it.

[62] John 6:62 What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before?

  • Jesus says, “Oh, that offends you? Would it offend you if you saw me ascend back up into heaven?”
  • “If you actually knew who I was, would it still offend you?” He is God Almighty.
  • Are you going to be offended at what He says? HE IS GOD. Who do we think we are?
  • He can what He wants, and we aren’t going to do anything about it. Instead, fear God.

[63] John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.

  • Jesus is saying, “My words that I speak are SPIRIT and they are LIFE.” Don’t you want to hear these things?
  • But no, our flesh doesn’t want to hear things like that. That shows you that your flesh is leading the way.
  • When your spirit is leading the way with the Holy Spirit, you’ll love the words from Jesus.
  • He is saying that He’s not talking about THE ACTUAL FLESHLY THINGS. He’s talking about in the SPIRIT.
  • He’s not talking about eating the flesh and drinking the blood in a FLESHLY WAY. He says so right there.

[64] John 6:64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him.

  • Jesus chose the 12 disciples. “But there are some of you that believe not.”
  • We know that Judas Iscariot didn’t believe. Jesus called Him and He rejected Jesus. He betrayed Jesus.

[65] John 6:65-66 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

  • Do you see that? Jesus had many people following after Him.
  • But once He said those things that offended His own disciples, they didn’t follow Him any more.
  • That’s a sad thing. When people actually hear the truth, they don’t want any part of God.
  • There are false churches all around here teaching some other Jesus who isn’t from the Bible.
  • If you tell them the truth, you’ll offend them and they won’t listen to you any more. That’s sad.
  • As you can see, all I’m doing is teaching the Bible. Show me where the Bible is wrong.
  • People just don’t want to hear the truth from God’s word. And that’s a very sad thing.
  • I want to learn the truth. No more lies.

Peter Believed That Jesus Was The Christ

[66] John 6:67-69 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

  • Jesus looked at His 12 disciples and says, “Are you going to leave too? Did I offend you too?”
  • But Peter tells Jesus that he doesn’t have anyone else to go to for eternal life. There is no one else.
  • Who else are you going to find? All the other so-called Saviors are false. It’s Jesus alone.
  • You better stick to Jesus. Peter knew that.
  • He says, “We believe and are sure that you are the Christ, the Son of the LIVING GOD.”
  • I sure hope with all that I have that you believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God.
  • If you do, I know that I’ll see you one day in heaven because I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

[67] John 6:70-71 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? 71 He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

  • One of the 12 disciples is a devil. Judas Iscariot is a devil. He was with Jesus many days.
  • He preached with the disciples. But he didn’t believe anything he was saying.
  • Same thing with preachers in this world. They act like they follow Jesus, but listen to them.
  • They know absolutely nothing about salvation. Nothing about God. Nothing about Jesus.
  • If Judas Iscariot would have known Jesus, he wouldn’t have betrayed Jesus Christ.
  • He didn’t believe Jesus was the Savior. That’s sad because Judas Iscariot is burning right now in hell.
  • Don’t be like that. Change your mind right now and believe on Jesus Christ. Heaven is your destination.

Let’s pray.
