[2] The title of the sermon: “YOU MUST MAKE JESUS THE LORD OF YOUR LIFE.”
Must You Make Jesus Lord Of Your Life To Be Saved???
- Have you ever heard a so-called “Christian” say: “You must make Jesus the Lord of your life?”
- They say and preach: “If you don’t make Jesus Lord of your life, then you are not saved.”
- This is called Lordship Salvation and is very popular and very common in most churches around here.
- So it’s very important to understand this false doctrine or false teaching.
- You don’t want to be deceived into this false teaching at ANY POINT in your life.
- And many pastors have fallen for this deception and continue to teach this deception.
For example, one of the most popular so-called “Christian” websites “GotQuestions.org” teaches a Lordship Salvation.
- They teach that submitting to Jesus Christ as Lord goes with trusting in Christ as the Savior.
- In other words, believing on Jesus Christ is not enough to be saved according to them.
- You must submit to Jesus Christ as Lord of your life. You must make Jesus the Lord of your life.
- It’s very easy to see that the people teaching these things haven’t submitted to Jesus Christ.
- They won’t hear His actual words and simply trust in the words of Jesus Christ.
- Lordship salvation is the EXACT OPPOSITE of what we believe here at True Words Christian Church.
[3] 1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
- Let me make this clear. It doesn’t matter if you call Jesus the Lord of your life or not. Do you know why?
- Because He is the Lord of all life. It doesn’t matter what you think or what you want to call Him.
- He is the Lord. There is ONE LORD and that is Jesus Christ. “By whom are ALL THINGS, and we by Him.”
[4] Acts 2:36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.
- Jesus is Lord no matter what you think. Jesus is Christ no matter what you think.
- “But you must make Jesus Lord of your life.” NO, JESUS CHRIST IS ALREADY LORD OF YOUR LIFE.
- He owns your life. Your life came through Him. The spirit or life within you is OWNED by Jesus Christ.
- So, I don’t need to make Him Lord of my life to be saved because He already is Lord. Understand that.
- There is ONE LORD and He is Jesus Christ.
[5] Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
- “Well, you must make Jesus the Lord of your life for Him to actually be Lord of all things.”
- WRONG. God highly exalted Jesus and has given Him a name which is above every name.
- This means He is already Lord. GOD MADE HIM LORD. You don’t get to choose if He’s Lord or not.
- And yes, what I’m teaching right now is very important.
- “Well, Jesus isn’t Lord unless I MAKE HIM LORD.” Do you hear what these clowns are teaching?
- That’s the entire basis of their trash doctrine. “You must make Jesus Lord of your life.”
- Hey, He’s already LORD because God made Him Lord. He is your Lord, and you will bow to Him.
So, let’s take a closer look at Lordship Salvation and what they are actually teaching.
- I want to make sure you understand what they teach so you don’t fall for this.
- To be saved, they say that you must do 3 main things which also include other things.
- They say: “You MUST commit your life to Jesus Christ. Faith is not enough.”
- “Your faith must be joined by a commitment to serve Jesus your entire life.”
- If you know the Bible well, you should already know that this is false.
But they also say that OBEDIENCE must follow your initial commitment to Jesus Christ.
- I know this teaching perfectly, and I’m sure you probably do to because we all grew up in this teaching.
- If you went to a so-called “Christian” church in this country, you probably were taught these things.
- They wanted you to commit your life to Jesus Christ and then you must obey Jesus from there.
- So far, for their Lordship salvation, you must commit your life to Jesus Christ.
- And then you MUST obey Jesus Christ all your life. You MUST endure to the end they say.
- You must overcome they say. That enduring and overcoming is all about you and your great works.
- In other words, your works are a part of salvation in this Lordship salvation.
Does Saving Faith Always Include Works?
They say, “We are saved by faith alone, but saving faith is never alone.”
- In other words, if you believe on Jesus Christ YOU WILL obey Jesus Christ the rest of your life.
- And I scratch my head at that one because I sure don’t know anyone like that.
- I believe they are living in a fairy tale world. The Apostle Paul didn’t OBEY Jesus the rest of his life.
- He says that he didn’t. He admits that he didn’t, and he tells you why he didn’t. He’s in the sinful flesh.
- All of us who are alive are in our sinful flesh.
These Lordship salvation teachers and preachers don’t understand the Bible.
- They don’t understand FAITH at all. They teach that you must PERSEVERE to the end of your life.
- In other words, you will NEVER know that you were ever truly saved until you die.
- This is very, very sad what they are teaching because God doesn’t teach this in the Bible.
- But they do. And they won’t stop because they have no faith in God’s words.
- And yes, I will clearly say that these people HAVE NO FAITH. They will not trust Jesus Christ.
I will summarize, to be saved through Lordship Salvation, you must make a commitment to Jesus Christ.
- You must make Him the Lord of your life. That’s the first step. You then must obey Jesus Christ.
- And you must persevere to the end of your life in order to be saved and to make it to heaven.
- If you begin to sin and don’t turn back from all that sin, you have lost salvation.
- You must repent of all your sin, you must be baptized, and you must continue in His commandments.
- You can lose salvation, or you never actually had salvation. That’s what they are teaching people.
- And for some reason, people love these lies.
[6] Proverbs 20:17 Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
[7] 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
- We need to listen to the actual words of the Bible and stop falling for false doctrine.
- “They will not endure sound doctrine.” They want to hear lies and deceptions. The truth isn’t for them.
- “Bread of deceit is sweet to man.” But I’m telling you that their mouths will be filled with gravel.
- What they teach is nasty, and it’s not okay to teach this. You can see the result of what they teach.
- I was a result of this teaching, and I was not doing good.
[8] Jeremiah 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
- Why do you want to listen to false preaching? None of it makes any sense with the Bible.
- This Lordship Salvation does not match the Bible at all. They will twist Scriptures and ignore others.
- Why do you love to have it so? What are you going to do in the end? You’re going to be in big trouble.
Have Lordship Salvation Followers Actually Believed On Jesus Christ?
And these same false preachers will say: “Well, I’ve believed on Jesus Christ just like you.”
- “It’s just that I say that you must keep obeying Him and persevering to make it to heaven.”
- And do you know what I say? No, you haven’t BELIEVED ON Jesus Christ. Why?
- Because you think it takes more than believing on Jesus Christ. This means you don’t have faith in Him.
- You’re putting your faith in other things and you are only saved through faith IN Jesus Christ.
- In other words, you don’t know what it means to believe ON Jesus Christ alone.
[9] Jeremiah 23:16 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.
- Why are you listening to what these false preachers are speaking out of their own heart?
- Why aren’t you listening to the words from the mouth of the Lord?
- What are those words?
[10] John 3:15-16 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[11] John 3:17-18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- He that believeth on Jesus Christ is not condemned. Whosoever believeth in Him should not perish.
- But have eternal life. Why will they not hear these words and trust in His words.
- They say that they have trusted in Jesus Christ as one of their first steps to salvation.
- But have they? These words from the mouth of Jesus are very easy to understand.
- But they won’t believe those words. They don’t believe they have everlasting life until they obey and persevere to the end.
What they don’t realize, though, is they haven’t trusted in Jesus Christ. They haven’t obeyed Him.
- They haven’t persevered in Him either. They are right that they don’t have everlasting life.
- Yes, I am saying that have not obeyed the Gospel of Jesus Christ AT ALL.
- They have not believed on Jesus Christ. Salvation is through Jesus Christ and not through us.
- Salvation is not of works in any way, shape, or form. The Bible says so. Jesus, the Lord of all, says so.
- They say that they have made Jesus Lord of their life, but they won’t even believe His words.
- They call Him a liar. He says that I must believe on Him, and I will have everlasting life.
- They say, “No, that’s not right, Jesus.” But I thought He was Lord of your life? You call Him a liar.
[12] John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
- Now, does that sound difficult to understand? All you have to do is believe what God says.
- Lordship Salvation matches the religion of the Pharisees.
- They said they believed in God, and they obey and persevere in the laws of God.
- That’s what they said. But Jesus told them that they don’t believe in God.
- And I am saying that the Lordship Salvation preachers don’t believe “IN” God.
- They don’t believe John 3:36. “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.”
- They don’t understand what it means to believe ON Jesus Christ.
Here’s Jesus Christ right here standing on His own. There’s nothing else there.
- Your works aren’t there. Your obedience to His laws are not there.
- Your water baptism isn’t there. Your repenting of sin isn’t there.
- Your church attendance isn’t there. Your daily prayers are not there with Him.
- He’s standing alone right there. And He says, “BELIEVE ON ME and I will give you everlasting life.”
- Believing on Him means that your faith is in Him and Him alone. HE IS THE CHRIST. HE IS THE SAVIOR.
You Only Need Jesus Christ For Salvation
Nothing else goes with Him for salvation. Don’t try to put yourself over there with Him.
- He is enough to save you because He is the Son of God and He is God.
- He ALONE is the sacrifice for sins. He alone is the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world.
- You don’t. Your works don’t take away the sins. Jesus takes away the sin.
- Jesus is the one who died on the cross. The body of Jesus Christ was buried. It wasn’t you.
- His soul went to hell as a burnt offering for your sins. He arose from the dead on the third day.
- He was in His actual body that was buried. He suffered for your sins. He did all the work for salvation.
- Your works aren’t a part of salvation. HE STANDS THERE ALL ALONE BY HIMSELF.
And He says, “He that believeth in me hath everlasting life.” Will you believe IN HIM or not?
- Why are you adding all of these other things? If you do, then you do not BELIEVE IN HIM.
- Do you understand what I’m saying? If you have to add other things to Jesus Christ, you are a fool.
- If you think other things are needed EXCEPT the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, you are a fool.
- You aren’t understand who Jesus Christ is or what He’s done for you. He is the life. He is the light.
- Your works are no good without faith in Jesus Christ ALONE.
- Why won’t you forsake everything else and actually trust “IN” Jesus Christ.
For example, when you understand what it means to believe on Jesus Christ, you’ll know you are saved.
- You’ll know that you won’t obey Jesus Christ every moment of your life.
- You’ll know that you are not good. You’ll trust the words of the Bible.
- You’ll realize that there’s no way you’ll make it through Lordship Salvation.
- There’s no way you will stop sinning. There’s no way you’ll remember to repent of all your sins.
- There’s no way you will be perfect. There’s no way you will obey Jesus and persevere at all times.
- The Bible tells you that you won’t be able to do this. Will you trust the WORDS OF GOD or not?
[13] John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
- I believe “ON” Jesus Christ for salvation. Nothing else will save me. My works will not save me.
- And once you realize who Jesus Christ actually happens to be, you’ll realize how silly it is to believe that your works will save you.
- The works of Jesus Christ are so far above your works that your works are just silly.
- Are you so great that your works match up with the works of the Almighty God of all creation?
Do You Realize That The Works Of Jesus Christ Are Enough To Save You?
Do you even realize the magnitude of works that He has done? He owns life. Life comes from Him.
- He is perfect, just, righteous, and holy. He’s never done anything wrong. And He gave Himself for you.
- But you won’t believe what He says?
- If you believe in Lordship salvation, you have not believed the words of Jesus Christ.
- You do not believe what John 5:24 says. This is Jesus Christ speaking in John 5:24.
[14] John 6:47-50 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life. 49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. 50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
- Jesus says, “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
- The Lordship salvation people teach that faith in Jesus Christ is not enough.
- They teach that you must have works to go with your faith and that “REAL” faith is never alone.
- They teach that believing on Jesus Christ will not give you everlasting life. Do they not?
- They will tell you to your face that believing on Jesus Christ does not give you everlasting life.
- But Jesus clearly says: “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
Who are you going to listen to? Have these people made Jesus the Lord of their life.
- The answer to that is very simple. NO. They call Him a liar over and over and over again.
- Is that called “making Jesus the Lord of your life.” That’s a weird way of making Him Lord.
- Calling Him a liar is not making Him Lord of your life. You sure aren’t obeying His words.
- You are sinning against Him every second of your life and living in this fairy tale world.
[15] John 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
- Jesus says, “I AM THE LIVING BREAD.” Notice that He doesn’t include anything else EVER.
- He says, “If any man eat of this living bread, ME, he shall live forever.”
- Nothing else is required for salvation BUT Jesus Christ. Isn’t that simple and easy to understand?
- But the Lordship salvation false preachers won’t stop. They continue to teach lies.
Most Churches In This Country Teach A Lordship Salvation
Most so-called Christians in this country today believe in Lordship salvation.
- And many of them don’t even know they fall under this category.
- If you commit to Jesus by making Him Lord of your life, obey all of His commandments, and persevere the rest of your life, THEN you have everlasting life.
- If you have been UNDER these lies, you need to get out from under them and run to Jesus.
- You haven’t been following Jesus Christ. You’ve been deceived into thinking you have.
- Lordship salvation isn’t about Jesus Christ. They use His name, but it’s a deception of Him.
- It’s a mirage. You need to wake up and trust in the words of Jesus Christ.
- Salvation is through Jesus Christ ALONE.
[16] Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
- Our name is not included. Lordship salvation pulls YOUR WORKS into the equation for salvation.
- Lordship salvation adds YOUR NAME to salvation.
- What must we do to be saved? Notice that the Bible never teaches what Lordship salvation teaches.
- NOT ONCE. The Bible doesn’t teach one that you must endure to the end to receive everlasting life.
- NOT ONCE. Salvation is IN Jesus Christ alone. Not of works.
[17] Romans 4:1-4 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.
- The Bible tells you that Abraham found that works won’t save you.
- And let’s be clear here. Let’s take anyone out there in this world today.
- Let’s compare your works to the works of Abraham. Let’s put them right next to each other.
- Guess what? Abraham wins. Let me say this again. Abraham is better than you. Did you hear that?
- You aren’t better than Abraham?
Why do you think God chose Abraham to be the father of all those who believe? Abraham had the works.
- Abraham was chosen by God because Abraham worked for God.
- He was willing to sacrifice his own son because God commanded him to do so.
- Could you do that? Abraham only was able to do that work through his great faith in God.
- He didn’t always do exactly what God told him to do. He sinned against God.
- He tried to do things his own way through his flesh. But Abraham is still better than you.
Do you think you’re better than Abraham?
- I would say many of the Lordship salvation preachers think that they are. They aren’t even close.
- They aren’t even of Abraham because they won’t trust God. They are just like the Pharisees.
- Abraham is all throughout the Bible. He’s talked about in 27 of 66 books of the Bible.
- Are you in the Bible? Is your name mentioned 337 times? No, it isn’t.
- But Abraham’s name is there and God loves Abraham. And what does God tell us about Abraham?
- What did Abraham find out about the flesh? Your works are done through the flesh.
Can your works be good enough to save you in any way, shape, or form?
- Can your works assure you of salvation? Maybe you aren’t paying attention to what you do each day.
- Are you living perfectly? If you think your works save you, then you must be perfect your entire life.
- WHAT DID ABRAHAM FIND OUT ABOUT THIS?
- “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory BUT NOT before God.”
- Your works do not justify you before God. Is this not clear enough for you?
For what saith the Scripture? Realize what the Scriptures are. They are holy and perfect. They do not have errors.
- For what saith the Scripture?
- ABRAHAM BELIEVED GOD AND IT WAS COUNTED TO HIM FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
- That’s what Abraham found out. He simply believed God’s promise to Him.
- When He believed God’s promise, God gave Abraham righteousness. Abraham was saved.
- And God didn’t take away that righteousness even though Abraham wasn’t perfect.
- Abraham wasn’t saved through His works. He believed God’s promise.
God Promised To Give You Everlasting Life If You ONLY Believe On Jesus Christ
God’s promise to you is He will GIVE YOU everlasting life IF you believe on Jesus Christ.
- Will you be like Abraham and simply believe God’s promise?
- Or, will you not believe God’s promise of everlasting life through faith in Jesus Christ ALONE?
- The Lordship salvation believers are not like Abraham.
- They don’t have God’s righteousness imputed unto them because they haven’t believed “IN” God.
- What does verse 4 say right there? This is what Abraham found out.
- “Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.”
If you think believing on Jesus Christ includes WORKS, then you’ve lost your mind.
- Repentance for salvation is changing your mind and believing ON Jesus Christ.
- You’ve went from unbelief to belief ON Him alone. Lordship salvation believers need to do this now.
- Working is not believing. Believing is not working. Are you working if you believe something in your mind?
- Listen, you are absolutely CRAZY if you think working is believing. What’s happening in this world?
- People in churches are so deceived that they now think WORKING is a part of simply BELIEVING.
- What’s wrong with you people? WAKE UP. You are deceived.
If you want to work for salvation, you owe God. And you can’t pay Him enough through your works for salvation.
- God says so over and over again. We are only saved by God’s grace. This means we don’t deserve it.
- Working for something means you deserve it. And people want to deserve this great gift of God.
- They want God to owe them salvation. But He says, “NO, I DON’T OWE YOU SALVATION.”
- He says, “I’ll give it to you if you simply believe on my Son, Jesus Christ.” He’s good enough. You aren’t.
Listen, if you add works to salvation at any point in the process of salvation, you are in debt to God.
- He won’t give you His grace. You will instead owe Him. And that’s what Lordship salvation teaches.
- They will flat out teach that you owe God for salvation. How will you pay for everlasting life? You can’t.
- Do you really think you can be good enough to earn everlasting life?
- They think they can. God says, “You’re wrong.”
If you add works to salvation before, during, or after, THEN you are in debt.
- Instead, you are truly only saved by faith in Jesus Christ. You should be saying:
- “I know that I am saved through Jesus Christ alone and there is no work I can do to contribute.”
- When Jesus made the sacrifice for sins, His sacrifice is enough to save me. That’s all I need. He’s it.
- Hey, Lordship salvation preachers, JESUS CHRIST is enough for me. Stop lying to people.
[18] Romans 4:5-7 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.
- But to him that worketh not but believeth on Him. That’s all I need to do for righteousness.
- And it’s not my own righteousness that saves me. It is the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- Lordship salvation believers are teaching their own righteousness is a part of salvation.
- No, MY FAITH is counted for righteousness. And my works are not a part of faith.
- How can you say that good works EQUALS faith? Faith has nothing do with works. NOTHING.
- Think about it. Wake up. Faith in Jesus Christ doesn’t include works. It’s believing IN Him.
- It’s right here in your mind and not in your works.
If I told you, “I need you to believe what I’m saying.” Would I tell you to go do some works?
- No, it doesn’t make any sense at all. But that’s what these people are teaching.
- King David know that salvation wasn’t of works. He preached it over and over again.
- Read what he wrote in the Bible. You’ll see this.
[19] Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
- We are ONLY SAVED by God’s grace. The Bible teaches this. ONLY SAVED BY GRACE.
- What does this mean? This means that we do not deserve salvation.
- The only goodness we can have on our own is through our very own works.
- It’s through following all of God’s laws and always doing right. None of us have done that.
- If we could do that, we wouldn’t need Jesus. We are only saved by God’s grace.
If We Are Saved By God’s Grace, There Is No Way Works Are Included In Salvation
And if we are saved by God’s grace, then we know for sure that we are not saved by works.
- And if by grace, then is it no more of works. Otherwise grace is no more grace.
- But if it be of works, then is it no more grace. If salvation included works, we would not be saved by grace.
- When you work for something, then you are owed for that work. Do you think God owes you?
- Are all of your works so good that God owes you for those works?
- If you think so, you are going to be very surprised.
- If you think Lordship salvation is the right way to heaven, you are going to be VERY SURPRISED.
[20] Romans 10:3-4 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
- Ignorant fools believe in Lordship salvation. If you are one of those people, did I offend you?
- Good. I hope that I did. Being offended was the only thing that woke me up in my life.
- I used to believe in Lordship salvation. That’s what I was taught in church without even realizing it.
- I went about trying to establish my own righteousness. That’s what I did. Didn’t work out too well.
- And if you’ll look at what you do, you’ll see that it isn’t working out too well.
- If you think you’re good, you re only deceiving yourself.
- It’s time to stop believing in yourself and to start believing in the Lord Jesus Christ.
[21] Romans 10:5 For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
- Yes, you can obtain righteousness through following God’s law. The Bible says so.
- But, if you are going to take that path of obtaining righteousness on your own, then you better live it.
- You better do everything God says. Is that the path you want to choose?
- You’ve already messed up. If you choose works for salvation, you’ve already broken God’s laws.
- You can’t reverse it. You can’t make up for all the things you’ve already done wrong.
[22] Romans 10:6-7 But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) 7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
- Righteousness comes through faith. It’s not going to come through your works.
- You will never have enough righteousness through your works because you’ve broken God’s laws.
- You must put your faith in Jesus Christ and God then imputes His righteousness to you.
[23] Romans 10:8-11 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
- Calling Jesus Lord is not what saves you. He is Lord. Making Jesus the Lord of your life doesn’t save you.
- A commitment to Jesus Christ doesn’t save you. Perseverance doesn’t save you.
- The Bible never says ANY OF THOSE THINGS. Not once.
- “Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed.”
- If you want to be saved, you MUST believe “ON” Jesus Christ. That’s it.
- Lordship salvation is not equal to believing on Jesus Christ. It’s not even close.
- Lordship salvation is NOT PREACHING FAITH. We preach faith. They do not.
They have added other things to salvation and this doesn’t work.
- Repenting of sin is work. Being baptized in water is work. Going to church is work. Obeying God is work.
- Persevering is work. None of those things are believing. For the heart man BELIEVETH unto righteousness.
- Believing is not working. You can be saved right now, in a moment, by simply believing ON Jesus Christ.
- Nothing else is important to salvation. Believing on Jesus Christ is what saves you.
[24] Titus 3:4-6 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
- How many times does God have to teach the same thing in the Bible?
- But yet people won’t listen. He clearly says: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done.”
- “But according to His mercy He saved us.” HE SAVED US. Not by our works.
- He gave us mercy and grace through Jesus Christ OUR SAVIOR. Jesus is THE SAVIOR. We are not.
- Our works are not. If our works were required to save us, we would all be in hell.
- And that is exactly where Lordship salvation doctrine is sending people.
John MacArthur teaches a Lordship Salvation. He is a false preacher.
- He says, “The Gospel call to faith presupposes that sinners must repent of their sin and yield to Christ’s authority.”
- They teach that the gospel message is a “call to discipleship.”
- They teach that you will follow Jesus Christ in obedience.
- This is coming from the people who won’t even listen to His words. They call Jesus a liar.
- But they teach that you will follow Jesus Christ if you are saved.
- You will obey His commandments. Is that what they are doing?
[25] Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
- Do you know who Jesus was talking to right here? Disciples who were following Him.
- These people were calling Jesus, “Lord, Lord.” These people were his disciples.
- The Lordship salvation preachers say that you MUST make Jesus Lord of your life.
- You must obey Jesus Christ in everything that He says.
Jesus Told His Own Disciples They Weren’t Doing What He Commanded
But what happened right there in Luke Chapter 6? Jesus told his own disciples that they were doing what He said.
- Do you think the original disciples of Jesus Christ did everything He told them to do?
- We know that they didn’t. Jesus said so. You can see that they didn’t.
- But the Lordship salvation crowd are much better than the original disciples. Do you see their arrogance?
- They ACT as if they are following Jesus Christ, obeying Him completely, and persevering to the end.
But are they actually doing that every day? OF COURSE NOT. You know it. I know. They don’t know it.
- They are blinded. They can’t see their own works that they are evil.
- They are better than Paul. They say they keep all of God’s commandments. Paul admitted he didn’t.
- The Pharisees said they kept all of God’s commandments. And here’s what Jesus said to them.
[26] John 8:42-43 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
[27] John 8:44-45 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
- So, do you really want to continue to believe in Lordship salvation and imitate the Pharisees?
- Or, would you rather imitate Paul who admitted he was a sinner and couldn’t stop sinning in his flesh?
- Would you rather simply have faith in Jesus Christ, THE GOOD ONE, to save you?
- Or would you rather trust in your own works that obviously are no good? You are not perfect.
- Jesus is perfect. You are not.
[28] Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
- We just went over this Scripture in Proverbs Chapter 20. Who can say this?
- Lordship salvation believers say this. Are they telling the truth? No, they aren’t. They are liars.
- They think their works are making them clean. But they aren’t. WE ARE UNCLEAN. Jesus is clean.
- They think they are being sanctified or saved through their own works.
- The Bible tells us there are none good but one that is God.
- The Bible doesn’t say there are none good but LORDSHIP SALVATION believers.
So, all you really have to do is look at all the examples of the people who went to heaven in the Bible.
- Those people who went to heaven are NOTHING like the Lordship salvation followers.
- The Lordship salvation followers match the Pharisees perfectly and most of them went to hell.
- These people think they are perfect and following all of God’s commandments.
- We MUST commit to Jesus, obey Jesus the rest of our life, and persevere to the very end.
- Is that what those people are actually doing? NO, THEY AREN’T.
- How did all the people in the Bible make it to heaven?
There’s tons of examples in the Bible. We go through the Old Testament examples. They say, “Those don’t count.”
- Why don’t they count? The New Testament quotes all of those examples.
- Is Abraham not quoted within the New Testament over and over again?
- The New Testament tells us how Abraham from the Old Testament made it to heaven.
- He believed in God and it was accounted unto him for righteousness.
- God tied the Old Testament and the New Testament together.
- The Old Testament is quoted hundreds of times within the New Testament.
- So, yes, we can use the examples of people in the Old Testament.
Adam and Eve, the original sinners, did they make it to heaven?
- Did Noah make it to heaven? He got drunk after God saved him from the flood.
- After all that, he disobeyed God. What happened? Moses didn’t obey God all the time.
- God sought to kill Moses at one point over his disobedience. Look closely at Moses.
- He didn’t obey God. He didn’t enter into the promised land, but he went to heaven.
- Did all the judges in the Book of Judges that GOD CHOSE always obey God?
- If you think so, you need to read the book again.
Samson Wasn’t As “Good” As These Lordship Salvation Preachers
Was Samson a great and perfect man of God like these Lordship salvation preachers?
- Who do you think is better? SAMSON or John MacArthur? All the Lordship salvation followers would say:
- “Oh, of course, John MacArthur is better than Samson. He obeys God’s commandments. He perseveres.”
- The GotQuestions.org people are all BETTER than Samson, a man who God chose as a judge.
- Why did God choose Samson? Why do you think?
- Was it because God knew Samson would do great works? No, He chose Samson because of his faith.
- Samson killed himself and went to heaven. Did he not? Did Samson go to hell? No, he didn’t.
[29] Hebrews 11:32-34 And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: 33 Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.
- Samson is in the same Scriptures that talk of Gideon, Jephthah the son of a harlot or a bastard child.
- Who else is mentioned there? David and Samuel.
- I don’t see John MacArthur’s name mentioned there with Samson because he’s nothing like Samson.
- SAMSON HAD FAITH. He went to heaven. He killed himself. He loved strange women.
- He didn’t obey God the rest of his life. He didn’t persevere, obviously.
- Killing yourself is the opposite of perseverance. But this is the New Testament. Hebrews Chapter 11.
If you think you’re better than Samson, you have no clue. You aren’t in the Bible.
- You don’t follow God all the time. You don’t obey God all the time. You don’t persevere all the time.
- You lying fools. You aren’t better than all of these people in the Bible.
- You aren’t better than Rahab the harlot. SHE HAD ACTUAL FAITH IN GOD.
- Lordship salvation followers don’t. They don’t believe the words of Jesus Christ.
What about Lot? He lived in Sodom. He didn’t obey God all the time. But he was a saved man.
- He went to heaven. He got drunken and had children with his own daughters. Was that good? No.
- It’s sick and nasty. Sin led to those things. What about Judah? Was he a perfect man? Did he obey?
- David committed adultery and had a man killed.
- But those false preachers will teach that people in the Old Testament were saved by their works.
- Really??? Is that what you’re going to teach? King Saul went to heaven. Did he obey God?
- No he died for his transgression against God. He killed himself. He went to heaven. The Bible says so.
Did the prophet Jonah obey God? He was a prophet of God. Is John MacArthur better than Jonah?
- No, that’s laughable. HAVE YE NOT READ THE BIBLE? Have you not seen the examples?
- Did Sarah always obey God? The Bible tells us she was a good woman. But she wasn’t perfect.
- She gave her handmaid to her husband. SICK. Not good. Did Jacob always obey God?
- Did he not deceive his very own father? He was paid back for that sin.
- King Solomon? Have you not read? The wisest man to ever live.
- Yes, Solomon is wiser than John MacArthur. That might be a surprise to John MacArthur.
[30] 1 Kings 11:4-5 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father. 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
[31] 1 Kings 11:6-8 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father. 7 Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the children of Ammon. 8 And likewise did he for all his strange wives, which burnt incense and sacrificed unto their gods.
- Are you better than Solomon? When he was old, he went after false gods. BUT YOU MUST PERSEVERE.
- You must make it to the very end to be saved. Then Solomon didn’t make it, did he?
- But you’re wrong. Solomon did make it to heaven because he was saved by God’s grace through faith.
- His works were evil in the sight of the Lord. Is that called obedience?
- Is that saving faith that includes obedience?
Did The Apostle Peter Always Obey And Persevere?
Did Peter, an original disciple of Jesus Christ, obey Jesus as he was older? Did he? Peter denied Jesus Christ.
- Paul had to withstand Peter to his face because he went back to a works based salvation.
- Peter wasn’t perfectly obeying and following Jesus Christ. He turned his back on him.
- Did Peter lose salvation? No, he didn’t because you can’t lose everlasting life once you have it.
Paul was a sinner. But are you better than Paul? Are you perfectly obeying Jesus Christ?
- If not, what’s happening? You said that saving faith includes obedience and works.
- What happened? You don’t have saving faith because you don’t have faith.
- We are not perfect people at any time as long as we have this flesh. We mess up and we sin.
- We are only saved by God’s grace through faith IN JESUS CHRIST.
Do you remember the woman at the well in John Chapter 4? She wasn’t “good enough” for the others.
- But Jesus chose to stop and talk with her above any of the others.
- She was confused. She says, “Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.”
- Why would this man be talking with me? Jesus knew that she had been married five times.
- She was currently committing fornication.
[32] John 4:18-19 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly. 19 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.
- Notice, in John Chapter 4, that Jesus doesn’t preach to her to repent of all her sin and be baptized.
- He doesn’t command her that she should obey Him for the rest of her life and persevere.
[33] John 4:25-26 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
- He simply told her that He is the CHRIST or the Savior of the world.
- That’s all God wants you to do to be saved. His will is for you to believe on Jesus Christ.
[34] John 6:28-30 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. 30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?
[35] John 6:31-33 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. 32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
[36] John 6:34-36 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. 36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
[37] John 6:37-39 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. 38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. 39 And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
[38] John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- God’s will is for you to believe on Jesus Christ and be saved.
- It’s not all of those other things that Lordship salvation teaches.
- SHOULD WE DO THOSE THINGS? Yes, we should commit our life to Jesus Christ.
- We should have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We should obey Jesus Christ.
- We should love Him by doing what He asks us to do. And we do the best we can.
- But we know 100% for sure that we are only saved by faith in Jesus Christ.
Who Did Jesus Heal While He Was On Earth? He Healed People With Faith And Not Works.
If you take a step back and look at a bigger overview of the Bible, you’ll notice many things.
- For example, who did Jesus heal while he was on earth? You can see all the examples in the Bible.
- He didn’t heal the Pharisees who wouldn’t believe on Him.
- He healed the people who the others despised because they had faith in Him.
[39] Luke 7:50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
- This was a woman that the Pharisees hated. FOR SHE IS A SINNER.
- The Lordship salvation followers are doing the same thing. They act as if they are better.
- What saved this woman? Jesus says, “THY FAITH HATH SAVED THEE.”
- These are the people who Jesus saved. Just look at the examples. FAITH SAVES PEOPLE.
- Their works FOR SURE didn’t save them. How can you not see this? The works of Solomon didn’t save him.
- The works of Saul didn’t save him. The works of David didn’t save him. He murdered his friend.
- The works of Paul didn’t save him. Did you not read what he did? They didn’t obey perfectly.
[40] Matthew 21:32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him.
- This is Jesus speaking. He says, “YOU BELIEVED JOHN NOT.”
- He didn’t say, “You didn’t repent of all your sin.”
- He said, “You repented not afterward that ye might believe him.”
- Salvation comes only through BELIEVING on Jesus Christ. Not through works. How do you not see this?
- Jesus says this over and over again but you believed HIM NOT. But the publicans and the harlots believed.
- THE SINNERS BELIEVED. You don’t see yourselves as sinners because you think you’re good.
- I’ve been there and done that. We are not good. You are not good.
[41] Matthew 13:58 And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
- They didn’t believe on Jesus Christ. So He didn’t do not many might works there.
- Judas Iscariot repented of his sin, and he went to hell. He was sorry for betraying Jesus.
[42] Matthew 27:4-5 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that. 5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
- Repenting of sin didn’t save Judas Iscariot. He never believed on Jesus Christ as Savior of the world.
- Jesus stated that Judas Iscariot was not clean. It’s better that he was never born.
- But he repented of his betrayal of Jesus Christ but he never repented and believed on Jesus Christ.
- Believing on Jesus Christ is what saves you. Hundreds of clear Scriptures.
Hundreds of examples of people within the Bible being saved through faith alone.
- What does it take to convince the Lordship salvation people? Are they reprobates? Are they rejected?
- If not, they sure act like it. They won’t hear the words of Jesus Christ.
- I could go on and on with examples in the Bible. I could go on and on with Scriptures.
- People will accuse me of EASY BELIEVISM that makes the path to heaven wide and broad.
- Does it? Accusers, you won’t believe on Jesus Christ. You say that you do, but you are a liar.
- The Pharisees said they believed in God, but Jesus said they are liars. You are the same.
- The path is narrow because you won’t have faith “IN” Jesus Christ.
Lordship salvation teaches that you must make Jesus Lord of your life. Any Scripture for that? No, there isn’t.
- They teach that a true profession of faith will be backed up by evidence of faith.
- They say, “If a person is truly following the Lord, then he or she will obey the Lord.”
- They say that is a person is living in unrepentant sin that they are not saved.
- Well, please, tell me Lordship salvation preachers: “When have I passed your imaginary line?”
What if I do something wrong I don’t repent of it?
- What if I am like Paul and I keep doing that which I hate? Did I lose salvation? They say, “YES.”
- Or they say that I never had it. Why? Because of my works. But the Bible says salvation is not of works.
- The Bible says that I cannot lose everlasting life.
- Their false doctrine doesn’t make any sense with God’s words.
- Lordship salvation doesn’t align with the Bible. You can be saved and walking in the flesh.
- There’s plenty of examples of this in the Bible. Those people went to heaven by God’s grace through faith.
[43] Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
- We are only saved by God’s grace. He created us to do good works but works aren’t a part of salvation.
- WE “SHOULD” WALK IN GOOD WORKS. When the Bible asks the question: “What MUST I do to be saved?”
- Works are not mentioned as a part of salvation. But we SHOULD do good works AFTER we are saved.
- And we are ONLY saved by God’s grace through faith. FAITH ALONE saves you. Then do good works.
- But if you don’t, you’re still going to heaven. You will make God very angry, though, if you do evil.
If You Are Saved And Don’t Obey God, He Will Punish You But He Doesn’t Take Everlasting Life From You
And you could end up like Samson or king Saul. God can take your life away if you won’t obey Him.
- Lordship salvation false preachers have turned the truth of God into a lie.
- You do not have to make Jesus Christ the Lord of your life to be saved. You simply must believe on Him.
- The Lordship salvation followers are foolish. They want EVIDENCE from you that you are saved.
- They want you to do what they think you should do to show you are saved.
[44] Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
- Faith is the evidence of things NOT SEEN. Why do you want evidence of faith?
- You want to see it with your eyes, but you can’t see faith with your eyes. GIVE IT UP.
- I haven’t seen Jesus Christ with my eyes, but I don’t need to see Him to have faith in Him.
- I don’t need to provide you with evidence that I am saved. God knows if I have faith.
- God saves me. You don’t. Worry about yourself and your own salvation. You need to.
- If you think Jesus isn’t enough, you are a fool. If you think works save you, you are a fool.
If you think there are different types of faith, you are a fool. FAITH IS FAITH.
- Saving faith doesn’t include works. You made that up by twisting Scriptures. You created a fairy tale.
- It’s time to stop and simply believe on Jesus Christ for salvation. This includes nothing else.
- You don’t have to make Jesus the Lord of your life. He already is Lord of all.
- It doesn’t matter if you believe in Him or not. He owns you. He owns your life.
- He can end your life any time He wants. JESUS IS ALREADY LORD.
- To be saved and to go to heaven, you simply must put your FAITH in Him.
- Works are not faith. This is not difficult to understand.
Let’s pray.
