The Books of the Bible Chart by Mike Murphy

A friend of mine through this website, Mike Murphy, has shared many charts with me. I am going to start posting these to the website because they are amazing charts.

I want to start today with a chart that he has titled: “The Books of the Bible.” This chart is to scale and lists out all of the books of the Bible in order.

I love charts, but I can’t even get close to the charts that Mike has created. He has a great gift from God. He understands the Bible very well and has decided to share these charts with us. Please use his charts to make Bible study easier for you.

How To Use This Books of the Bible Chart

Please notice the color coding on the chart. The colors are showing you the similarities in the Old and New Testaments. We can take a look at this chart and find many truths about the Bible:

  • The Old Testament makes up 77% of the King James Bible.
  • The New Testament makes up 23% of the King James Bible.
  • We can split the Bible into 10 parts to help us remember the books.
  • The size of each book can easily be seen in the Bible books chart.
  • The Book of Psalms and Jeremiah are the largest books of the Bible.
  • 2 John and 3 John are the 2 smallest books of the Bible.
  • The History books are the largest section of the Bible.
  • 66 Books in the Bible
  • 1189 Chapters
  • 31,102 Verses
  • 789,635 Words
  • 4,137,818 Characters (letters, spaces, and punctuation)
  • The Bible is totally awesome.

Hope you like the last point there because it is 100% truth. There is no book like the Bible. If you decide to read the Bible over and over again, you will know these words are the word of God.

What To Do With This Chart?

If you haven’t memorized the books of the Bible, it’s time to do so. Print a sheet and place it in your Bible. Print a larger version and put it on your wall.

I repeat the books of the Bible probably weekly so I don’t forget their order. You should be able to recite all the books of the Bible in order as this is important to know.

This Books of the Bible chart will help you to remember their order when you group them the way that Mike has grouped them in his chart.

When you’re reading the Bible, it’s also important to know where you are in the Bible. For example, if you’re listening to me preach a sermon, use this chart to understand the Scriptures and where they are located in the Bible.

All of this chart is to scale which easily shows you the size of every book. I hope you enjoy this chart and use it in your Bible study.

Thanks for posting this, brother Josh. I love charts too and I am always trying to make them better and add more to my site. I actually made a small update to this chart very recently. I added a running, cumulative percentage to the books of the bible. So if you’re reading from Genesis to Revelation, notice that after you complete the 5th book, Deuteronomy, you are 20% or 1/5 of the way through the Bible. After you complete Judges, you are 25% or 1/4 of the way through. After you complete 1 Kings, you are 34% or 1/3 of the way through. And most probably already know that Psalms is the halfway point in your Bible; after completing the reading of Psalms, you are 53% of the way through. Yes, the Bible is indeed totally awesome!

Hello Mike! Where is 70.7% at? In Ezekiel somewhere? Was wondering where that laid in the exact verse. I know the significance of 53% when relating to the rapture during Daniel’s 70th week. End of Psalms, Psalm 150, is about praising the Lord and that will definitely be happening at the rapture. Just wondering if you’ve seen anything else like that.

It looks like 70.7% takes you to Ezekiel 40:4, “And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel.”
Nothing too compelling in my opinion.

1335/2520 = 52.9762% takes you to Psalm 139:11, “If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.” The day of the Lord is a day of darkness. Pretty cool connection there.
