[2] The title of the sermon: “HOW TO READ AND STUDY THE BIBLE.”
Read And Study Your Bible Every Day
- Today, we’re going to go over how to read and study the Bible every day.
- If you aren’t currently reading and studying your Bible every day, it’s time to change that.
- Every one of us should be reading and studying constantly.
- Daily Bible reading and study needs to be at the top of our lists for each day.
- And children, this means you too. You can read and understand the Bible better than many adults.
- If you can’t read yet, then you can listen to the Bible.
- Why should we be reading and studying every single day?
[3] 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
- We are to eat and drink spiritually. We aren’t just comprised of this flesh.
- We have a spirit and a soul which is far greater than this fleshly body that we’re in.
- Our spirit and soul is far more important than this body.
- Our spirit and soul reside in this body, ad we are to feed our spirit and soul.
[4] John 6:32-35 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. 34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. 35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
- We need to understand the importance of God’s words. We have His perfect words within the Bible.
[5] Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.
- The Old Testament and the New Testament tells us the importance of the word of God.
[6] Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
- Now, let me ask you this. Is God lying to us in these words right here? Is Jesus Christ lying to us?
- No, He isn’t. What does He actually say? We MUST live by every word of God.
- This is what Jesus Christ says. If you aren’t reading and studying the Bible every day, you aren’t living.
- For life, we need God’s words.
- You are alive, but you aren’t living spiritually each day if you aren’t taking in the word of God.
Your attitude each day should be, “I MUST HAVE THE WORD OF GOD TODAY.”
- Most people wake up and say, “I need my coffee. I need my creamer.”
- Liberals will say, “I need my LGBTQ loving Starbucks today.”
- Side note: Don’t support Starbucks. Don’t buy anything they sell.
- They say this on their website: “We stand as an ally to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community – affirming every way people may choose to identify.”
- Listen, you don’t need coffee and you definitely don’t NEED Starbucks. Save your money.
There is something you need way more than coffee and that is the King James Bible.
- This Bible is the perfect word of God and will never lie to you. The words are perfect.
- Here at this church, we LIVE by these words. This is why our sermons are long.
- This is why we put hundreds of Scriptures in every sermon.
- Most so-called “Christians” wouldn’t listen to these sermons, but all of you do.
- And if you pay close attention, you’ll learn many new FACTS every sermon.
- You’ll learn wisdom from God Almighty that will help you greatly throughout your life.
- How important is reading and studying the Bible?
[7] Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
- Make sure you see the second half of that verse after the colon. Do you see what this says?
- “For thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.”
- In other words, God has magnified HIS WORDS above His own name.
- So, NEVER act like the Bible is just another book. I can tell you with 100% truth that it isn’t.
- THESE ARE GOD’S ACTUAL WORDS JUST AS IF HE WAS SPEAKING TO YOU FACE TO FACE.
- This is what you must understand. God magnifies His own word above His name.
- This should tell you how important this Bible happens to be.
Nothing Is Magnified Above God’s Name But His Words
God doesn’t magnify coffee above His own name. He doesn’t magnify breakfast, lunch, dinner, or food.
- He doesn’t magnify oxygen, water, sunlight, clothing, money, or anything else above His own name.
- So, we must STOP and REALIZE once and for all how important His words are to us.
- Other people mock His words. Other people laugh at His words. We love His words here.
[8] Psalm 56:3-6 What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee. 4 In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. 5 Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. 6 They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
- “IN GOD, I WILL PRAISE HIS WORD.”
[9] Psalm 56:7-10 Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God. 8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? 9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. 10 In God will I praise his word: in the LORD will I praise his word.
- We should ALWAYS be praising His words and magnifying His words. Not our words but His words.
[10] Matthew 5:18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
[11] Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
[12] John 10:35 If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken;
- The words in this Bible will be with us FOREVER. That should tell you something.
- They are NEVER going away. They mean more than we even understand right now.
- We actually can’t understand the true importance of these words. We don’t have that capacity.
- Heaven and earth shall pass away by the words of Jesus Christ will NEVER pass away.
- And His words are all the words in this Bible. He is the word of God, and He wrote this.
- The Scripture cannot be broken. People have tried, but they will never break His true words.
[13] 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
- God commands us to study. God commands us to be workers in His word.
[14] Hebrews 4:11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
[15] 2 Peter 1:10-12 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. 12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.
[16] 2 Peter 1:13-15 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; 14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me. 15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.
- Labor in God’s words. Be diligent in His words. I am here to put this in remembrance for you.
- We must read, study, and labor in God’s words.
- One of the big problems in this world today is most people are getting lazier and lazier.
- Everything is getting easier and easier so people have gotten lazier and lazier.
- We cannot follow this trend. We MUST be workers. We must put in work for God.
[17] 2 Peter 3:14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.
- BE DILIGENT. This means steady in work. Do you know how to be steady in Bible work and study.
- Do it every single day and don’t miss a day. Don’t miss one day.
- For example, if you’ve never read through the Bible once on your own, then you need to get to work.
- 70 hours of work reading the Bible will get you through the Bible once.
- Most people work 40 hour weeks. So, reading the Bible through ONCE takes less than 2 weeks of work.
Most people will put in 40 hour work weeks to get they pay checks to buy food and drinks.
- But they won’t put in just 70 hours per work reading the Bible in their entire lifetime.
- Steady and consistent reading is called diligent Bible reading. EVERY DAY. Don’t skip a day.
- “Well, I’ve got this to do tomorrow and it’s very important.” So what.
- It’s not more important than God’s words. Plan everything else around the reading of God’s words.
How to read the Bible? What shall we do? How should you be reading the Bible?
- We’ll talk about how to read the Bible first, and then we’ll move on to studying the Bible.
- Remember, it takes about 70 hours on average to read through the Bible.
- If you read the Bible just 12 minutes per day, you will read the Bible through once per year.
- Should you read through the Bible once per year? Of course. That should be the very, very minimum.
- I recommend about 5 times per year or about one hour per day.
- You can split that one hour up into multiple sessions if you want.
Read The Bible Multiple Times Per Day
For example, read the Bible at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed for 15 minutes each.
- This will hit the mark of one hour per day and five times through the Bible per year.
- Just 15 minutes, 4 times per day. This is what I recommend for each one of you.
- When you do this, you’ll begin to see that what I am preaching is the truth.
- You will begin to love these sermons here even more because you’ll see the truth in them.
- When I’m preaching, other Scriptures that I didn’t use will pop into your head.
- If that’s not already happening, you need to be reading the Bible even more.
- Why? God’s word is steady, true, powerful, and strong. God’s words will keep you on the right path.
[18] Ephesians 4:13-14 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
- We all need to grow up together in Jesus Christ. NO MORE CHILDREN IN THE WORD OF GOD.
- We need experience. We need to know His words so we aren’t tossed around with false doctrine.
- We shouldn’t be tossed around with a false pre-tribulation rapture.
- We will not be deceived once we know the Bible. No one will trick you any more. Why is that?
- Because you’ll be standing firm and strong in the Bible and on the Bible.
- Jesus is the SOLID ROCK and on HIM WE WILL STAND. And we will not be moved or tossed around.
[19] Ephesians 4:15-16 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: 16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
- We aren’t just reading and studying the word of God for ourselves. We are growing up in Christ.
- We need to read our Bible, pray every day, and we’ll grow, grow, grow. This is the truth.
- We’re reading and studying this Bible with everything we have for each other in this church.
- If I’m not reading and studying my Bible every day, I’m letting you all down. And I won’t do that.
- God gave me a job, and I’m going to do that job to the best of my ability.
If you aren’t reading and studying your Bible every day, you’re letting everyone else here down.
- I am 100% dead serious about that. Every one of you. We need every single one of you here.
- God has HUGE PLANS for this church, and every one of you is a HUGE PART of those plans.
- Every person here needs the next person. That’s what a church is supposed to be.
We are all going to grow in Christ, and you can’t do that unless you’re reading your Bible.
- Don’t be left behind. Please. We need you. Get to work reading and studying your Bible.
- It’s one of the best things you can ever do.
- If you don’t know what to do with your life, read and study your Bible.
- You will need all of these words for eternity.
[20] Acts 20:29-31 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.
- This church will be going after I’m dead and gone. While I’m here, no wolves will enter here and stay.
- There will be no wolves that speak perverse things to draw away disciples after them.
- God warns us in the Bible. Every one of you MUST know all of His words.
[21] Acts 20:32 And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified.
- The word of God builds you up. You’ll see that once you’re reading and studying every single day.
- Then, if you miss a day, you’ll know it. You will miss God’s words and be hungry for His words.
- How do I know? I have experience. I’m not a novice.
- I’ve missed days reading the Bible, and I hate those days. Those are not good days for me.
[22] Colossians 2:4-7 And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. 6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
- Reading your Bible is the most basic thing you need to do every single day.
- If you aren’t reading your Bible, you are losing precious time to be rooted and built up in Jesus Christ.
- 1 hour per day. You can do that in 1, 2, 3, or 4 sessions per day.
- I highly recommend that you have quiet time when you read the Bible.
- I read or listen to the Bible on my own and then I read and listen to the Bible with my family.
If you have a family, I highly recommend you read the Bible together as a family.
- For example, have breakfast together. Listen to the Bible and follow along in your Bible. 15 minutes.
- Have lunch together if possible. If not, all of you have a schedule and read the next reading at lunch.
- 15 more minutes. At dinner, read together as a family for 15 minutes. Before bed, 15 minutes.
- Do this every single day. I have family reading time and then I have personal reading time.
Listen To The Bible While Taking A Shower
To get through the Bible even more, I listen to the Bible while I’m taking a shower.
- I listen to the Bible while I’m working during the day and not in meetings.
- I’ve listed to the Bible for 8 hours while working during the day.
- You can get through the Bible very quickly while doing other things, but you’re going to miss more things.
- But, at least you’re getting the word of God into your ears and your mind.
- If you go for a walk, listen to the Bible. If you exercise, listen to the Bible. Don’t listen to other trash.
- Fall asleep listening to the Bible. While driving, listen to the Bible.
And you might say, “But I love listening to this radio show or that radio show or comedy or worldly music.”
- Well, again, what do you love more? God loves His words. He tells you to love His words.
- So, get over the other stuff and get to work in God’s words.
- “But I would rather watch TV or play video games.” Too bad. Get over it.
- I promise you that God’s words are infinite times better than anything else you can do.
How to keep track of where you are when reading the Bible?
- I put a little dot at the start of a chapter when reading it. I use different Bibles. I mark them.
- Take one of our Bible reading sheets with you and mark off the chapters you read.
- What order should you read the Bible? Let’s keep it simple.
- Read it straight through. Genesis to Revelation. Read it straight through over and over again.
- You’ll begin to remember all the books of the Bible and their order as you read through 5 times per year.
If you want to take it to another level, read the Bible 10 times per year.
- That’s 2 hours per day. That’s awesome. God is watching you. Show Him how much you love His words.
- For the upcoming year, we’re going to have a Bible reading schedule to get through the Bible together 5 times in the year 2022.
- We’re going to stick to it each day, ad we’re going to read it 5 times through together.
- Not in the presence of each other, but if you stay on schedule, we’ll do this.
- Do you know how many so-called “Christians” have read the Bible through 5 times? Not too many.
- And we’ll do that together in one year.
How to listen to the Bible? You can download an audio Bible from the church website.
- You can download the Bible app on your phone. Make sure you listen to the King James Bible.
- Don’t choose any other. They are corrupted modern versions which are pure trash.
- You can change the speed of the playback on your phone or Bible app.
- You can slow a chapter down or speed it up. Listen to the Bible as much as possible.
When possible, follow along in your Bible. Flip through your Bible. Learn where all the books are located.
- Know that there are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament.
- Know that there are 66 total books in the Bible. Know how to find Nehemiah quickly.
- Know how to find Hosea, Nahum, Haggai, Galatians, Titus, and Jude. Flip to them quickly.
- Know the order of the books in your Bible. That’s why I recommend reading straight through.
- If you move around often without first knowing your Bible very well, you will get confused.
- Straight through. Over and over again. Remember, let’s hit 5 times through per year. All of us.
- That’s one hour of reading the Bible per day.
Now, is one hour of reading the Bible per day too much for you? 1 of 24 hours is not too much.
- You might say? But my days are packed full already. I can’t add another hour. Yes you can.
- Reading the Bible is more important than school, work, or play. It’s higher than all those things.
- When you put God’s words first, you’ll see that all of those things aren’t so important.
- You can change your schedule around so that you’re Bible reading times are a priority.
- There’s nothing better than reading the Bible together as a family.
If you would rather split your Bible up by the number of pages to read each day to make it through 5 times per year, I will show you how to do that.
- How many pages does your Bible have from the start of Genesis to the end of Revelation?
- Don’t count the maps or anything else. Just the actual chapters within the Bible.
- Let’s write some examples on the board. Taylor, go up to the white board for me.
- Someone give Taylor the number of pages in your Bible. Write the number, Taylor.
- I need some more total pages in your Bibles. Write them up there.
- Now, let’s multiply each of those by 5 times to read through 5 times per year.
- Then, let’s divide the totals by 365 days. That’s how many pages to read each day.
Take The Total Pages In Your Bible And Divide By 365 Days x 5 To Read Through 5 Times Per Year
For example, in my favorite Reading Bible, I have 1621 pages total from Genesis 1 to Revelation 22.
- For me to read through that Bible 5 times per year, I would need to read about 22 pages per day.
- That’s it. 22 pages per day. If I split that into 4 different sessions, that’s only 5 to 6 pages each time.
- We can do that. Right? We can put an hour of effort into reading God’s words each day.
- This is the first step to growing up in Jesus Christ.
[23] Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
- Faith is so powerful. When you have trouble, just have faith that God will fix it as needed.
- And guess what? God fixes it as needed. That’s what faith does for you.
- When you don’t have any food, have faith that God will provide and He will provide.
- When you don’t have any water, have faith that God will provide and He will provide.
You grow your faith through reading and studying the word of God.
- Then, when something comes up that would have bothered you before, NO MORE BOTHER.
- Faith in God fixes everything. And faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
[24] 1 Peter 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
[25] 1 Peter 2:1-3 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, 2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
- We should be like newborn babies who desire the sincere milk of the word. We need this every day.
- We should whine and cry like newborn babies when we aren’t getting the word of God.
- Kids, if your dad and mom forget to read the Bible with you, start whining and crying. Just kidding.
- But ask them, “Hey Dad, Hey Mom, can we read the Bible together?” There’s nothing better than that.
Now, what’s the next step after reading the Bible? You aren’t done yet. God commands us to study His words.
- We MUST know how to study His words. We must be studying subjects within the Bible.
- All of the men here can be preachers of God’s words just as I am preaching here right now.
- God made us all different and unique, but we should ALWAYS focus on the Scriptures.
- How do we do this? We must learn how to study the Bible.
- I’m going to show you how I study the Bible. Do you have to do it like this? No, you don’t.
- But, personally, this has worked very well for me.
When you’re reading through the Bible, you should keep a note book with questions you have.
- And then you take the time during a week to study that topic.
- Now, here’s a HUGE mistake people will make. They will go to the Internet and do a search.
- BIG MISTAKE. Don’t use the wisdom of men and women to study the Bible.
- You don’t need the internet. You don’t need Google or Bing or Yahoo.
- You simply need the Scriptures. Compare Scripture with Scripture.
- This is why it’s important to be reading through the Bible and understanding the Bible.
[26] John 6:45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.
[27] John 16:13-14 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
[28] Psalm 25:8-9 Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. 9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
[29] Psalm 25:12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
[30] Isaiah 54:13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.
[31] 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
[32] 1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.
[33] 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
[34] John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
- When you read and study the Bible, what should you always do?
- Always pray to God and ask Him to help you. There’s been times when I’ve been confused at the Bible.
- Some of the Bible is very difficult. When you get to that, stop and pray.
- What does God PROMISE us in the many Scriptures we just read? He will teach us all things.
- If you’re working hard and trying to understand the Bible, He will teach you. He says so.
Prayer Does Miracles And Will Help You To Understand The Bible
When you get to something you don’t understand, stop and pray to God.
- What should you pray? Remind God of His words. He loves when you do this.
- I would pray something like this: “God, remember that you promised to teach me all things.”
- “I’m having trouble understanding the book of Obadiah. Could you please help me to understand?”
- When you’re saved, you have the Holy Spirit within you that knows all things. He is God.
- He isn’t confused about the Scriptures. He’s within you if you have believed on Jesus Christ.
- God loves when you use His words to pray. “You promised to teach me. Please teach me.”
- And then show God that you’ll put the work into His words. Study the Scriptures.
- How should we do this? I want to go over an example of how to study the Bible.
Let’s do an example to study the topic of everlasting life. What phrases would we study for everlasting life?
- I would look for Scriptures with the phrases everlasting life, eternal life, life everlasting, life eternal.
- When we search the Scriptures for those terms, we find 45 matches in 45 different verses.
- And you might ask, how did you find those Scriptures?
- I use software called Swordsearcher, which runs on Windows only and costs about $70 per copy.
- The software is amazing and helps me to search the Scriptures daily and very quickly.
- And I do not work for Swordsearcher or profit in any way, but I have been using the software for many years now.
- I can search the Scriptures in seconds compared to hours and days.
Let me show you how this works for our example.
- I am going to search for 1) everlasting life, 2) eternal life, 3) life everlasting, and 4) life eternal.
- At the top there, you’ll see a graph that shows you where all the occurrences are within the Bible.
- From Genesis on the far left to Revelation on the far right.
- You can plot all of the Scriptures out and you’ll probably remember these charts from past sermons.
For this example, you’ll see that 44 of 45 Scriptures are in the New Testament.
- There’s only one verse in the Old Testament that contains one of those 4 phrases.
- This means we REALLY need to take a look at the verse in the Book of Daniel.
- This is exactly what I would do for a Bible study. This is how I study the Bible every time.
But before I go to that verse in the Book of Daniel, take a look at the top book with these phrases.
- And this shouldn’t surprise you. The Gospel of John was written to save people.
- The Gospel of John includes 17 of 45 matches within the entire Bible.
- This Bible study on everlasting life will teach you everything you need to know to receive everlasting life.
- And it’s short and sweet. There’s only 45 Scriptures here in this Bible study.
- Let’s look at the Book of Daniel first. We start right at the beginning of Daniel Chapter 12.
- This is the last chapter in the Book of Daniel.
- This is the only occurrence of the phrase “everlasting life” in the Old Testament.
[35] Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
[36] Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
- There are 3 resurrections in the Bible. Jesus is the firstfruits.
- He is the first ever to be resurrected in a new and glorified body.
- The first resurrection, as the Bible calls it, is at the rapture.
- This is when all saved people who have lived prior or during the rapture will be given a new body.
- This new body will be just like the body of Jesus Christ.
Then, the final resurrection is described there in Daniel 12:2.
- This is when all of the remaining bodies that are sleeping in the dust of the earth shall awake.
- Anyone who hasn’t yet been resurrected will now be resurrected. Why is that?
- Because after the thousand year reign of Jesus Christ the new earth is next.
- And in the new earth, there will be no sin. So the dead will arise and be cast into the lake of fire.
- The living, or the saved, will be resurrected and given new glorified and sinless bodies.
- So, all the bodies or flesh of all time will be resurrected at this final resurrection.
- “Some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”
- That is the first use of the phrase everlasting life within the entire King James Bible.
Just a simple Bible study on everlasting life will show you that Daniel Chapter 12 holds the first occurrence.
- I would guess that you didn’t know that before this simple Bible study.
- So, you already learned something by simply searching the Scriptures.
- Now, you would continue to read and study these 45 occurrences of these phrases.
- You could write an entire Bible study or sermon on these 45 Scriptures.
- You would compare Scripture with Scripture.
Continue Studying The Resurrections That We See In Daniel Chapter 12
If you wanted to continue with the study on the topic in Daniel Chapter 12, you could go that direction too.
- The Bible NEVER gets boring to study. You will learn many new things each time you sit down to study.
- Let me show you something that I use often in Swordsearcher. It’s called Treasury of Scripture Knowledge.
- Or the acronym is TSK. And it’s very easy to use in Swordsearcher.
- So, I go to the Scripture in Daniel Chapter 12. I click on this arrow before “some to everlasting life.”
- And I get related Scriptures to this verse about everlasting life and everlasting contempt.
- Watch what we find here. There are 3 related Scriptures. Let’s read them.
[37] Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
[38] John 5:28-29 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
[39] Acts 24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
- The New Testament matches with the Old Testament perfectly. Daniel matches Jesus Christ in Matthew.
- Daniel matches Jesus Christ in John. The apostle Paul matches Daniel and Jesus in the Book of Acts.
- This is why all of these books are inspired Scripture. They are perfect and match perfectly with each other.
- There will be a resurrection of all dead bodies that have ever lived. Every fleshly body will be resurrected.
- Some to everlasting life and some to everlasting contempt. This is what the Bible teaches.
- In the end, there will no longer be fleshly bodies as you see us today.
There will only be glorified bodies of the same type that Jesus Christ has right now.
- And a quick study of the phrase “everlasting life” will show you this.
- Do you see how and why studying the Bible in this way is very important?
- The Bible gives us perfect doctrine. We form our doctrines or beliefs from the Scriptures.
- So, I could go to the internet and be confused by all the so-called experts out there.
- But why would I do that? Been there done that. NO MORE. We simply use the Scriptures.
- If we continued this study, we would find Scriptures like these:
[40] John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[41] John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[42] John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
[43] John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
[44] John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
[45] John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
- And this is exactly what we’re doing. Jesus commands us to search the Scriptures for eternal life.
- This short and sweet Bible study is doing this for us. We are learning what gives us eternal life.
- And what is it? What have you seen in these Scriptures? Believe on Jesus Christ. That’s it.
- And you can search all the Scriptures regarding everlasting life and you’ll find the same thing.
- “What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.”
- The Gospel of John was written to save people.
- “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.”
[46] John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
[47] John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- Now we’re back to talking about the resurrection just as we saw in the first verse with Daniel.
- Do you see how this works? Bible study is amazing. You’ll see and find the truth within the Bible.
- You won’t find the truth from false preachers.
- Jesus says over and over Himself, “Believe on me and you will have everlasting life.”
- A false preachers loves to add things and call Jesus Christ a liar over and over again.
- Jesus Christ isn’t the liar. His words are truth. He doesn’t lie to you.
- Why is this so difficult to understand for so many people?
[48] John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
[49] John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
- Jesus Christ has the words of eternal life. Simply believe His words. Works are not required.
- FAITH ALONE SAVES you, and that’s the end of it. Faith in Jesus Christ gives you eternal life.
- Believing on Jesus Christ is faith in Jesus Christ is trusting in Jesus Christ alone.
- If you believe that you must do something else besides believing on Jesus Christ, you don’t have faith.
[50] John 10:25-30 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me. 26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.
- Jesus Christ is the one who gives eternal life. Not you. So we must believe His words.
- And when we do, He gives us everlasting life. It’s that simple.
- So, remember what we’re doing. We’re doing a very quick Bible study on everlasting life.
- This is an example I’m showing you on how to study the Bible.
[51] John 12:50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
[52] John 17:2-3 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. 3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
- So, we’ve already looked at about 1/3 of all the verses in the Bible about everlasting life.
- And you can easily see what it takes to get everlasting life. It only comes through Jesus Christ.
[53] Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.
- Eternal life comes through believing on Jesus Christ.
- This is how you study the Bible. You go over all the Scriptures from cover to cover about everlasting life.
- You form your rock-solid doctrine from the Scriptures. We do this here in this church with authority.
- We have the authority of God’s words behind every doctrine that we have here at this church.
- When someone comes in the door and tells me that you must repent of all your sin to be saved, I tell them they are wrong in a very nice way.
- Why? Because I know 100% for sure that repenting of sin doesn’t save you in any way.
Study Repenting Of Sin And See What You Find
You can do your own Bible study on repenting of sin. Look up that phrase in the Bible.
- The phrase “repent of your sin” is not in the Bible. So look up the phrase “REPENT OF.”
- You’ll find just 5 verses in all the Bible with the phrase “REPENT OF.”
- Let’s read them. Again, this is called searching the Scriptures and studying the Bible.
[54] Exodus 32:12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.
[55] Exodus 32:13-14 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever. 14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.
- God is the one repenting of the evil which He thought to do unto His people. And God doesn’t sin.
- God repents more than anyone else in the Bible and this means repent doesn’t always mean repent of your sin.
- If repenting of sin was so important for salvation, wouldn’t God says this?
- He would, but repenting of sin doesn’t give you everlasting life.
So, I used Swordsearcher to find any verses that has the everlasting life phrases that we looked up earlier and the word repent within 2 verses of those phrases.
- Guess what I found. ZERO VERSES. Repenting of sin doesn’t give everlasting life.
- Repentance for salvation does give you everlasting life and that means a change of mind from unbelief to belief.
- Repent and repent of your sin is not always the same thing. Words have several meanings.
- Look in a dictionary for that fact. Searching the Scriptures will correct all doctrine and bring it to truth.
[56] Jeremiah 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
[57] Jeremiah 18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
[58] Revelation 2:21-22 And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. 22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
- There are the five Scriptures in the entire Bible that have the phrase “repent of.”
- There are no verses that have the phrase repent of your sin. That one right there is one of the closest.
- And it doesn’t mention anything about repenting of fornication to be saved and given everlasting life.
- Believing on Jesus Christ gives you everlasting life, and you can easily prove this through Bible study.
I want to show you one more example of using words and phrases to study the Bible.
- What about the phrase “speaking in tongues?” Is that phrase in the Bible?
- What do you think? “SPEAKING IN TONGUES.” Is it in the Bible? No, it’s not there.
- There are only 4 verses that have the phrase “speaking in” for the entire Bible.
- And none of them are speaking in tongues. 1) Speaking in mine heart, 2) Speaking in prayer
- 3) Speaking in me, and 4) Speaking in them. The correct phrase is speaking with tongues.
- And guess how many times that phrase is in the Bible? ONCE.
[59] 1 Corinthians 14:6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
- Now, don’t stop there because if you study the Bible correctly, you’ll find SPEAKETH IN TONGUES.
[60] 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.
- Speaking in tongues is speaking in languages.
- Speaking in an unknown tongue is some speaking in a language that you don’t know.
- Speaking with tongues and speaking in tongues are both valid phrases to use.
- Some people might say, “Speaking in tongues” is not a Biblical phrase but speaketh in tongues is Biblical.
- So, saying it either way is fine. This is what a quick Bible study on a phrase will do for you.
- Many preachers teach and preach false doctrine but a quick study fixes all of that.
Now, what’s another great way to study the Bible?
- A verse by verse study is what we do when we go over chapters.
- You’ll see both types of sermons here at this church.
- All of the sermons are a result of my personal Bible study.
- Verse by verse studies take much longer to do IF you put the right amount of work into every verse.
Verse By Verse Bible Studies Are More Intense But Worth The Effort
For example, we’ve been studying the Book of Proverbs verse by verse.
- Proverbs is probably the most difficult book to do verse by verse because every verse is a sermon in itself.
- So, you would stop on every verse and attempt to understand each verse using other Scriptures.
- Allow me to show you one example of how to study a verse in Proverbs with other Scriptures.
[61] Proverbs 17:1 Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.
- What does this Scripture mean? Well, you start to break down the verse.
- What’s a dry morsel? So you can try checking the rest of the Bible. Search for “dry morsel.”
- You won’t find that phrase anywhere else in the Bible. So then you would search for morsel.
- There are 11 Scriptures in the Bible with morsel. It talks of a morsel of bread.
- The Scriptures talk about eating a morsel. Then you can look up the definition of morsel.
- It’s a bite or a mouthful or a small piece of food. It’s just a small piece of food.
- You might say it’s more like a crumb. It’s not going to satisfy your hunger.
“Better is a dry morsel, and quietness therewith, than an house full of sacrifices with strife.”
- It’s better to have peace and quiet with little to eat than everything you could ever want with strife.
- This is why we don’t pray for riches or want riches. With riches comes more problems.
- The Bible teaches this.
- So, the more you know about what the Bible teaches, the easier the Scriptures are to understand.
- You would continue to break down the Scripture and find other Scriptures similar using the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge.
- You would probably find these. Compare the Scriptures.
[62] Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.
[63] Psalm 37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.
[64] Ecclesiastes 4:6 Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.
[65] Proverbs 21:9 It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
[66] 1 Thessalonians 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
[67] 2 Thessalonians 3:12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
- Now, you should really understand that verse in Proverbs Chapter 17. Right? It’s not so difficult.
- And then the next time you see these Scriptures, you’ll automatically know that there are other Scriptures in the Bible that teach the same thing.
Before we end, I highly recommend Swordsearcher. It does many more things than what you’ve seen today.
- If anyone here would like a copy of Swordsearcher to study the Bible, we’ll purchase one for you.
- If you don’t have a Windows based computer, there are other options.
- You can search for phrases on your Bible app.
- There’s a free program called e-Sword that’s similar to Swordsearcher.
I’ve used both and highly prefer Swordsearcher.
- It’s very powerful and helps you to search the Scriptures so fast. There’s dictionaries already built in.
- There’s a concordance already built in.
- You can find where the same Greek word is used throughout the New Testament.
- You can find where the same Hebrew word is used throughout the Old Testament.
- You can take your Bible study to an entirely new level by simply using the Scriptures alone.
As you’re reading and studying the Bible, things will start to come together for you.
- You’ll understand the sermons even better. You’ll greatly increase you faith.
- You’ll remember the Scriptures and the chapters.
- When studying the Bible, make sure you read the entire chapter too so you don’t misunderstand.
- Remember, chapter breaks were put there by man so you might need to read the chapter before.
- You might need to read the chapter after.
I hope this has been a good introduction on how to read and study the Bible.
- I hope you’ll take what you’ve learned today and take off running right past me.
- I want you to go ahead of me. I want you to fly past me. Children, you can do this.
- These young men here right now might be future preachers and pastors.
- Young women who are here right now. Your future children will need you to teach them at home.
- The Bible is the most important subject you’ll be teaching. Your future kids need you to know this.
- Everyone here, including me, needs to increase faith and stand up for God and His words.
- I don’t care what anyone thinks of me because I know Jesus Christ is pleased when I preach His words.
- We all must stand up for Him. Reading and studying the Bible is one of the keys to that.
Let’s pray.
