[2] The title of the sermon today is “JOHN CHAPTER 7.”
Feeding Thousands Of People From Next To Nothing Is A Great Miracle
- In John Chapter 6, we saw Jesus feed thousands of people with 2 small fish and 5 barley loaves.
- This is not a small miracle. If 5,000 men showed up at the door, could you feed them all?
- No way. But Jesus can. And He didn’t just feed them. He had leftovers.
[3] John 6:12-14 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost. 13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten. 14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
- They started with 5 barley loaves and ended with 12 baskets full of bread.
- Each of the 12 disciples had a basket filled with bread by the time the miracle was done.
- “THIS IS OF A TRUTH THAT PROPHET THAT SHOULD COME INTO THE WORLD.”
[4] Deuteronomy 18:18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.
- These people in John Chapter 6, after seeing this miracle, say: “THIS IS THAT PROPHET.”
- Acts Chapter 3 quotes Deuteronomy Chapter 18.
[5] Acts 3:22-24 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you. 23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people. 24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
- Jesus is that prophet we better listen to. When you see the words in the Bible, we better listen to them.
- Or not. You can choose to listen to some other voice. And what happens?
- Verse 23. “And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.”
- All the prophets in the Bible have told us these things. Don’t hear Jesus and end up in hell.
- We also see Jesus walk on water in John Chapter 6. Can you do that? I sure can’t.
- Peter walked on the water for a short time by faith. He didn’t do it on his own.
[6] Matthew 14:26-28 And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear. 27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28 And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.
[7] Matthew 14:29-31 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. 31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
- We can do all things through Christ. Without Christ, Peter would have never made it on that water.
- Jesus saved Peter’s flesh that day. He pulled Peter up while He Himself was walking on the water.
- And Jesus saved Peter’s soul too because Peter believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.
[8] John 6:47-48 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. 48 I am that bread of life.
[9] John 6:50-51 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. 51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
- When are you going to eat of that bread? Once you do, YOU SHALL LIVE FOREVER.
- I didn’t say it. Jesus Christ said it. Being saved is a one time event that’s as easy as eating bread.
- It’s as easy as drinking water from a well like the story of the Samaritan woman in John Chapter 4.
- We saw Jesus offending the religious people in John Chapter 6. He was and is an offensive preacher.
- Why do you preach like this, Josh? Why do you think? I preach the word of God. If it offends, it offends.
- I’ll tell you the truth, which will always be better than someone lying to you.
[10] John 6:65-68 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
- If you don’t like the words I use when I preach, where are you going to go to hear the truth?
- I hope you find another church that doesn’t lie to you. Good luck with that.
- I’ve already used more Scripture in a summary of John Chapter 6 than most churches use in a month.
- Jesus has the word of eternal life, and that’s why we use the Bible. We will learn the Bible.
Are You Going To Leave Too?
Peter was a smart man. Jesus says, “I offended those disciples. Are you going away too?”
- Peter says, “Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.”
- If you feel like you’re lost like I’ve been many times in my life, there’s no man here that can help you like Jesus Christ can.
- “Who else is going to help you?” That’s what Peter said. He said, “I’m not leaving you, Jesus.”
- With that said, let’s start in verse 1 of John Chapter 7.
[11] John 7:1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.
- Jesus wouldn’t go down to Jerusalem because the Jews didn’t like Him and they didn’t want Him there.
- They hated Jesus. They wanted to kill their Creator. The one who loved them and gave them life.
- “We want Him dead.” That’s what they wanted. So Jesus stayed in the North in Galilee.
- Jesus sure wasn’t afraid of them, but He had to finish the work His Father gave Him to do on this earth.
[12] John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.
- God the Father sent Jesus to earth to finish His work. And that’s what Jesus is doing.
- So He stayed in the North in Galilee at this time. His hour had not yet come.
- The Jews wanted Him dead now so He didn’t walk in Jewry with them. They would kill Him.
- Jesus could have destroyed them, but He didn’t come the first time to destroy them.
- At His second coming, though, He will destroy with God’s wrath.
[13] John 7:2 Now the Jews’ feast of tabernacles was at hand.
- We’ve talked about the feasts of the Lord in the Book of Revelation verse by verse study.
- It’s very important for us to understand the feasts of the Lord.
- Do you remember when the feast of tabernacles takes place?
- This gives us the time of year when John Chapter 7 is taking place.
[14] Leviticus 23:34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
- So, we’re in the seventh month of the Jewish calendar, which would be similar to the October time frame.
- Now, watch what the very own brethren of Jesus Christ say to Him here. This is His very own family.
- Sometimes your very own family who you love are the ones that won’t hear anything you say.
- Even when you tell them the 100% truth they don’t want to hear it.
[15] John 7:3-5 His brethren therefore said unto him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see the works that thou doest. 4 For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world. 5 For neither did his brethren believe in him.
- His own brethren wanted Jesus to prove more to them.
- “We want to see the works you do, Jesus. Then we’ll believe.” His brethren didn’t believe at this time.
- Now His brethren in His family did believe on Him later on but not at this time.
- The authors of the Book of James and the Book of Jude are most likely the brothers of Jesus Christ.
- They’re, of course, half brothers with the same mother Mary but not the same Father.
- Jesus doesn’t have an earthly Father. He has a heavenly Father. Watch what Jesus says back to them.
[16] John 7:6 Then Jesus said unto them, My time is not yet come: but your time is alway ready.
- Jesus says, “It’s not time for me to go into Judaea.” But your time is always ready.
- You can go whenever you want because no one is looking to kill you.
[17] John 7:7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
- Does the world today hate Jesus Christ? Yes. Did the world back then hate Jesus Christ? Yes.
- The Bible says so. What name bothers people more than any other name? Jesus. Just say His name.
- You’ll see the responses you’ll get. You’ll see the eye rolls. You’ll see people change the subject.
- The world HATES Jesus. Why? Because Jesus tells the truth. He tells them that they’re evil.
- If you stand up for Jesus against the world, the world will hate you too.
[18] John 15:23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also.
- You can’t hate Jesus Christ the Son of God and love God the Father.
- You can’t hate Jesus Christ and love life. You can’t hate Jesus Christ and be happy.
[19] Proverbs 8:36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.
- If you hate Jesus Christ, you love death because that’s what is coming to you. Death and hell.
- All your works are evil UNLESS you’re saved and have put your trust on Jesus alone to save you.
- You can’t trust in your works and trust in Jesus alone. The world hates Jesus because He is good.
- Jesus is perfect and people don’t like others being better than them.
- But let’s get this out right now. I’m not better than you. I’m a big time sinner.
- But I know who is better than you. Jesus Christ. And people hate Jesus because of that reason alone.
[20] John 7:8 Go ye up unto this feast: I go not up yet unto this feast; for my time is not yet full come.
- Jesus tells His brethren to go on up to the Feast of Tabernacles. He says, “I’m not going YET.”
- See what this actually says, “I go not up YET unto this feast; for my time is not YET full come.”
[21] John 7:9-10 When he had said these words unto them, he abode still in Galilee. 10 But when his brethren were gone up, then went he also up unto the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.
- So, He tells His disciples to go on ahead and that He isn’t going to the feast YET.
- But after His brethren went up to the feast, THEN He also went up to the feast. He did so in secret.
- Why is that? He didn’t go with His brethren because the Jews were looking for Him to kill Him.
- Let’s say you were one of those disciples at this time. You ask Jesus: “Are you coming to the feast?”
- And Jesus says in the King James Bible, “No, not yet. I’m not going yet.”
- But watch what the New American Standard Bible says.
[22] John 7:8 False NASB “Go up to the feast yourselves; I do not go up to this feast because My time has not yet fully come.”
- They ask Him and He says, “I’m not going to the feast.” I do not go up to this feast.
[23] John 7:9-10 False NASB Having said these things to them, He stayed in Galilee. 10 But when His brothers had gone up to the feast, then He Himself also went up, not publicly, but as if, in secret.
- The NASB tells us that Jesus lied because He said He wasn’t going up to the feast and then went.
- The King James Bible tells us that Jesus didn’t lie to His brethren. Jesus doesn’t lie or deceive.
- He actually said, “I’m not going to the feast YET.”
[24] John 7:11-13 Then the Jews sought him at the feast, and said, Where is he? 12 And there was much murmuring among the people concerning him: for some said, He is a good man: others said, Nay; but he deceiveth the people. 13 Howbeit no man spake openly of him for fear of the Jews.
- Do you see why Jesus went in secret? When the Jews saw His brethren, they said: “Where’s He at?”
- They were looking for Jesus. He already knew that because He knew they wanted to kill Him.
- But notice, no one stood up for Jesus. He knew they wouldn’t. Why?
- Verse 13 says, “Howbeit no man spake openly of Him for fear of the Jews.”
Do You Not Stand Up For Jesus?
Do you know we do the same thing today? Have you ever done that?
- You’re around people you know don’t want to hear about Jesus Christ.
- You’re going with the flow. The conversation is far from the Lord Jesus Christ.
- And you just keep going with it to make people happy. You never mention the Lord Jesus Christ.
- Why? Because you’re scared. You won’t fight back against the sodomites, LGBTQ+, Black Lives Matter.
- You won’t say anything to the women’s rights crowd that kills babies every day.
Why? You’re scared your face might on the news for being a HATEFUL person.
- When the actual truth is that all those people I mentioned have ZERO love within them.
- Love is following God’s commandments. If you want to love someone, you do what God says.
- Disney movies tell you that you must have this feeling inside of you that you love this person.
- But the Bible doesn’t talk about this emotion of love within you at all. It’s not about your emotions.
- Love isn’t about your feelings. Wake up. The world has lied to you. See the words of God.
[25] 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
- How do you love someone? How do I love my children? How do I love my wife, Pam?
- I love them according to what God says is love. I do what God says, and that’s how I love them.
- It’s not some fake emotion within me that says, “Oh Pam, you’re so beautiful I love you so much.”
- I love by doing what God told me to do. This means I don’t do evil things to them.
- I don’t lie to them. I don’t steal from them. I don’t look for another woman.
[26] Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
- If I do evil to someone, that’s not love. Evil is sin. If I sin against someone, I’m hating them.
- Instead, doing good to others is loving them and that is keeping God’s commandments.
- You don’t lie to someone because you think that’s what’s best. It’s not. That’s called hating them.
- When you stand up for Jesus in this world, that’s called loving those other people.
- Most won’t want to hear it, but one person in the crowd might listen. That’s love.
[27] John 7:14 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught.
- Jesus waited a few days and then He went right into the temple and taught.
- Jesus knew the right time to go teach. Do you think He did a good job teaching the Bible?
[28] John 7:15 And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
- They thought you had to be taught in the synagogues. Like today. You must be taught in the Seminaries.
- You must be taught in a Bible college because those are the only people who know anything.
- Blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah.
[29] 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
- I haven’t been taught in a Bible college. I haven’t been taught in the Seminaries filled with lies.
- And I’m glad. Why? Because I’d rather have God Almighty as my teacher. I know He’s not lying to me.
- “And is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in Him.”
- I don’t need other books. I don’t need Seminary. I don’t need Bible college.
- Why? Jesus is teaching me just like He’s teaching in John Chapter 7. And I marvel at the Bible.
- And those people MARVELLED at Jesus teaching in the synagogue.
- If you get into this Bible every day and study hard, God will amaze you. I promise you that.
[30] John 7:16-17 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
- I love this Scripture. You all hear me say often: “I didn’t say it. God said it right here in this Bible.”
- I’ll say, “God loves long hair. It is the woman’s glory.” I didn’t say it. God did.
- Jesus does the same. He says, “This isn’t my doctrine. This is God’s doctrine. He sent me to teach it.”
- Look at verse 17 close. Amazing verse. “If any man do His will.” What does that mean?
- If any man do the will of God. What is the will of God? Are you doing the will of God?
- If so, verse 17 says that you’ll know who is teaching you correctly.
- “He shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.”
You Should Know If I’m Teaching You The Truth
For example, is there anything that I’ve taught you so far in this sermon that isn’t from God?
- Do you know? Are you not sure? Have I been lying to you? I’ve only used Scripture.
- So how will you know that I haven’t been lying to you? The Bible says, “If any man will do God’s will.”
- If you do God’s will, then you’ll know whether or not I’m lying to you. So, what is God’s will?
- I’m not going to make this up. Where do find God’s will? What is God’s will? It’s in the Bible.
- We just went over it in John Chapter 6. This is Jesus speaking in this Scripture.
[31] John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- The will of God is for you to believe on Jesus Christ and have everlasting life.
- He wants you to have it right now. Once you believe on Jesus, you receive the Holy Spirit.
- You don’t receive the Holy Spirit after some great work that you did.
- It takes no work to change your mind. The Bible says salvation is not of works.
- If believing took work, then Jesus Christ just lied to us right there in John 6:40.
He says, “Believe on Him and have everlasting life.” Once you believe, you receive the Holy Spirit.
- Let’s say you don’t believe me.
- I just said that you receive the Holy Spirit AFTER you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
- I just said that you don’t receive the Holy Spirit after you do some great work. It’s after you believe.
[32] Ephesians 1:12-14 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
- Once you do the will of God which is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you receive the Holy Spirit.
- The Holy Spirit seals your SOUL (not your flesh/body) from sin.
- The Holy Spirit also teaches you and allows you to know when someone is teaching you lies.
[33] John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
- If you’ve trusted on the Lord Jesus Christ ALONE as your Savior, then you’ve done the will of God.
- Then you should be able to take the WORD OF GOD in the Bible and see who is telling you the truth.
[34] John 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
- When preachers talk about how good they are, how good man is, and tell you stories all the time about great men and women, they aren’t looking to give God the glory.
- Jesus did give God the glory. Jesus says, “I seek my Father’s glory who sent me.”
- He says, “I’m telling you the truth.” There is no unrighteousness in the man that tells you the truth.
- Jesus is God. He is the Son of God. His Father sent Him. He’s telling you the truth.
- Don’t seek your own glory. Seek God’s glory. There is no unrighteousness in that at all.
Now watch what Jesus does next. Imagine this. The Jews want to kill Jesus. He knows it.
- He’s preaching in their synagogues. Do you think He’s scared of them?
- Do you think God Almighty is scared? Did Jesus go in there and try to please all of them?
- Does He go in there and try to make friends with all of them? Does He preach nicely to them?
- Well, let’s see what Jesus does. He’s not scared.
[35] John 7:19-20 Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? 20 The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?
- They didn’t know that Jesus knew they wanted to kill Him. He knew because He is God.
- They act like they follow the law of Moses. People act like they’re good in today’s churches.
- “Oh, we’re so good and you’re a horrible person.” HYPOCRITES!!! All of them.
- You will never hear me say that I’m better than you. I’ve messed up more in my life than you have.
- Understand that right now.
Don’t Act Like You’re Perfect
Jesus tells them, “You can act all you want. But I know you don’t keep the law.”
- I know you’re a sinner is what Jesus is saying to these self righteous people. They don’t like it.
- And they lie to God’s face again. They say to Jesus, “You have a devil. Who is trying to kill you?”
- They accuse God Almighty Himself of having a devil. And they lie to His face. Evil.
[36] John 7:21 Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel.
- Jesus did that miracle of the man with an infirmity 38 years at the pool of Bethesda.
- They didn’t like it because Jesus healed that man on the Sabbath day. That’s why they wanted to kill Jesus.
[37] John 7:22-23 Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. 23 If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day?
- Jesus tells them they are angry with Him because He healed on the Sabbath day.
- He made a man whole on the Sabbath day. A man who was sick for 38 years!!!
- But it’s okay for the Jews to circumcise a man on the Sabbath.
- What does that do? In reality, nothing. Works of the law do not save a man.
- The law can’t save us because all of us have broken it.
- So, they think it’s okay to circumcise on the Sabbath but Jesus can’t heal on the Sabbath.
- Again, hypocrites. That’s what Jesus is saying here.
- Jesus created the law. Healing on the Sabbath day is not breaking the law.
- Again, it’s another man made rule that isn’t in the Bible. They made it up because they were jealous.
[38] John 7:24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
- Notice that Jesus doesn’t say to not judge. He says to JUDGE righteous judgement.
- You should be judging everything you do.
- If a friend says, “Hey why don’t you come over so we can try some alcohol?”
- But you know that Proverbs Chapter 23 tells you to not even look upon alcohol.
- Don’t even give it a try. Don’t even look at it. Judge yourself. Don’t do it. Righteous judgement.
[39] John 7:25-26 Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill? 26 But, lo, he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing unto him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is the very Christ?
- They couldn’t say anything back to Jesus because you can’t win an argument with Jesus Christ.
- Some people will try, though. Do you want an example? And remember, these aren’t my words.
- These are the words of Jesus Christ the one who can save you. Do you want to argue with Jesus?
[40] John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
- You can’t argue with that. What’s it say? Jesus said that. “He that believeth on me HATH everlasting life.”
- Guess what? I believe on Jesus Christ to save me. I know He’s the only one who can do it.
- I know I have the right Jesus because He’s the one within this Bible. I know He’ll save me.
- What’s that mean? I have everlasting life. It doesn’t matter what you think.
- It doesn’t matter your arguments. The religious people like these Jews here wanted to argue.
- But they couldn’t. The people saw this. They said, “Jesus speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him.”
- If you want to always be right, get yourself a Bible and use the words of Jesus. He’s always right.
[41] John 7:27 Howbeit we know this man whence he is: but when Christ cometh, no man knoweth whence he is.
- They thought they knew who Jesus was because they knew His family. He’s just the carpenter’s son.
- But they didn’t know Jesus. They didn’t know where He came from.
Jesus Is From God The Father
[42] John 7:28-29 Then cried Jesus in the temple as he taught, saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am: and I am not come of myself, but he that sent me is true, whom ye know not. 29 But I know him: for I am from him, and he hath sent me.
- Jesus already knew what they were saying about Him. He says, “You know me.”
- “I am not come of myself. He that sent me is true. You don’t know Him. But I know Him.”
- Jesus says, “I am from Him, and HE HATH SENT ME.” Jesus didn’t send Himself. He sent me.
- God sent Jesus Christ to save you and to save me.
[43] John 7:30 Then they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.
- Now that made them mad. He said, “I am from God, and God has sent me.”
- Then they sought to take Him. But could they? Nope. Why is that? Because it wasn’t yet time.
- His hour to die on the cross was not yet here.
[44] John 7:31-32 And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done? 32 The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
- Because of this preaching that Jesus did, many people believed on Him.
- Did you know truthful preaching from the word of God can change your mind and save you?
- That’s how I was saved. You need to hear the words of God being preached and believe them.
- Don’t believe me. I’m just an unrighteous man telling you what God says in His words. It’s not me.
- Let God be true and every man a liar. Yes, preaching from God’s word can save you.
- Why do you think I’m here? Do you think I’m doing this for myself? No, I want to see you in heaven.
[45] 1 Corinthians 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
[46] 1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
- Yes, God gave us preaching just like what I’m doing now to save people.
- If you think that’s foolish, you should check your salvation.
- “But unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”
- So we see the Pharisees want to take Jesus because the people were starting to believe on Him.
- The people say, “Is anyone else going to do more miracles than this man?” The Pharisees were jealous.
[47] John 7:33-34 Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. 34 Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
- I love that Scripture. The words of Jesus confuse them because they don’t believe Jesus is the Son of God.
- He says, “I’ll be with you for just a little while longer. Then, I’m going back to my Father that sent me.”
- He says, “You’re going to look for me, but you won’t find me.” They’ll still be looking for a Savior.
- The religion of Judaism is still looking for a Savior. They’ll never find that Savior because they missed Him.
- Please, don’t miss the Savior of your life today. It’s a very sad thing.
- Jesus says, “Where I’m going, you cannot come.”
- He’s telling the unsaved that they won’t be coming to heaven with Him.
- They won’t believe on Him so they’ll never be coming to heaven with Him. That’s sad. Don’t be that.
[48] John 7:35-36 Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles? 36 What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
- They didn’t understand what Jesus meant because they wouldn’t believe.
- Jesus is speaking of heavenly things. We have to wake up and hear Jesus today.
- And that takes us to the most important of this sermon.
- Jesus is going to stand up and preach. And remember what preaching can do.
- You need to hear what Jesus says right now. These aren’t my words. This is all Jesus.
- We’re moving to the very last day of the feast that Jesus went to.
[49] John 7:37 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
- Notice Jesus says, “If you’re thirst, come unto me.” Not some church, not some man, not some woman.
- Not some altar. Not anything else but Jesus Christ. Yes, it’s as easy as taking a drink.
- “Come unto me, and drink,” Jesus says.
[50] John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
- Here’s another verse that tells us believing on the Lord Jesus Christ is what saves you.
- There is no other requirement. You can call me a liar if you want, but you’ll be calling the one who can save you a liar too.
- You don’t want to call Jesus a liar like the religious people, the Pharisees, and the Jews right here.
- You don’t hate Jesus, do you? Look at what He says. Believe what He says. No one else.
- Don’t you want that living water that will never go away? Jesus says you will NEVER thirst ever again.
- “Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”
[51] John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
- Do you remember earlier when I told you that you receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit once you believe on Jesus Christ alone to save you?
- “Which they that believe on Him should receive.” Jesus died on the cross, he arose from the dead.
- He is in His glorified body. He is the first fruits. He is the first and only to be resurrected at this time.
- Since He is in His glorified body, the indwelling of the Holy Spirit is given to those who believe.
- It’s not an outward showing. The Holy Spirit can come upon people and can indwell people.
- There’s a whole sermon proving this. In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit would come upon people.
- That hasn’t went away. But there is something new once Jesus was glorified in His new body.
- The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is new in the New Testament and that verse proves this.
[52] John 7:40-42 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Shall Christ come out of Galilee? 42 Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?
- The people said, “This must be THE PROPHET. No, this must be THE CHRIST.”
- They didn’t know that Jesus is “THE” Prophet and “THE” Christ. Christ means Savior.
- But they knew the Scripture said that Christ would come from the seed of David.
- They knew that the Christ would come from the town of Bethlehem where David was.
- They were questioning this because they didn’t where Jesus came from.
- But we know where Jesus was born. Bethlehem. They didn’t know that.
[53] Micah 5:2 But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
- A man from the little town of Bethlehem would be born and become the ruler of Israel.
- And that is the spiritual Israel of all saved believers of all time.
- His goings forth have been from old, from everlasting. Jesus Christ is God.
[54] Luke 2:4-7 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
- The people questioning where Jesus was from didn’t have the Book of Luke yet. We do.
- We know that Jesus Christ was from Bethlehem.
[55] John 7:43-44 So there was a division among the people because of him. 44 And some of them would have taken him; but no man laid hands on him.
- Notice again that God is the great Divider. He divides people. You’re either with Him or against Him.
- The people were divided over Jesus that day. Some wanted to take Him and kill Him.
- Which side are you going to be on? You’ll find the real Jesus Christ within the Bible.
- God gave you the Bible so you can find Him for yourself.
- You’ll know I’m telling you the truth when you know the Bible.
Why Didn’t They Bring Jesus To The Leaders?
[56] John 7:45-46 Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? 46 The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
- The officers of the Jews come to the chief priests and the Pharisees.
- It’s like the pastors and the Seminaries and the Bible college professors who think they know everything.
- The high rulers of the religion say to the officers: “Why didn’t you grab Jesus and bring Him to us?”
- They reply, “No one has ever spoke like this man Jesus did.” They’re telling them: “This man is special.”
- Do you think the Pharisees were going to like that response?
[57] John 7:47-48 Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? 48 Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?
- Of course, we know that the Pharisees didn’t believe on Jesus Christ.
- They thought Jesus had a devil, but one day they’ll be burning in hell with their father the devil.
- They said, “We haven’t believed on Him. That means you shouldn’t either.”
- Hey, listen. Every individual has the right to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
- You don’t let someone else make the decision for you.
- “Well, my friend doesn’t believe the Bible so I’m not going to believe what Jesus says either.”
- No, you need to hear the truth from the Bible and believe the words from Jesus Christ.
[58] John 7:49 But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
- The religious people think it’s all about knowing the law and following the law.
- They think they are gaining righteousness by doing all of the works of the law.
- If you don’t follow the whole law, you’re cursed. That’s correct. But no one follows the whole law.
- No one can fulfill the entire law. That’s why Jesus had to come to die for our sins.
- If we could follow the whole law, Jesus wouldn’t have came to earth to die for us.
- Knowing the law and following the law doesn’t save you because you already broke the law.
[59] John 7:50-51 Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) 51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?
- You should remember Nicodemus from John Chapter 3.
- Jesus preached to Nicodemus in John Chapter 3 when he came to Jesus at night.
- Nicodemus says, “You’ve already judged this man Jesus and you haven’t even heard Him yourself.”
- The truth is they didn’t want a Savior. They wanted riches on earth. They didn’t want to lose their land.
- Now that’s sad. Some people will fight for land their entire life and forget about heaven.
[60] John 7:52-53 They answered and said unto him, Art thou also of Galilee? Search, and look: for out of Galilee ariseth no prophet. 53 And every man went unto his own house.
- And that was that. “Nicodemus, are you also of Galilee?” They called Jesus, Jesus of Galilee.
- So they were saying to Nicodemus, “Oh, so you’re a follower of Jesus too?”
- If anyone said anything in support of Jesus, they would start railing on them just like you see here.
- And everyone else shuts up and goes back home. Don’t give up on Jesus. Stand and fight for Jesus.
- I would say that this world needs Jesus more than any time in the history of this world.
And you should be glad that you’re here at a time when the world needs you to tell them about Jesus.
- And guess what? The religions don’t know the truth. Most are like the Pharisees.
- Most have a works based salvation that includes all types of works to earn your way to heaven.
- That’s the biggest lie of all lies. Jesus says, “Whosoever believeth on me hath everlasting life.” That’s it.
- Don’t be like the Pharisees. Don’t be like the false religious people. Why? Listen to this.
[61] John 8:42-43 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
- I hope you’re hearing the words from Jesus today. Continuing in the next verse.
[62] John 8:44-45 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. 45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
- Jesus tells the Pharisees they are of their father the devil.
- They speak lies. The devil is a liar and the father of lies. He’s deceived the entire world.
- The Bible tells us that MOST people are going to hell. I didn’t say it. God said it.
- That means MOST people are going to hell. Why is that? Verse 45 right there gives the answer.
- “And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.”
- I want to show you one last set of Scripture that Jesus preached to Nicodemus that night.
- I hope with all that I have that you’ll hear the words of Jesus just like He preached that night to Nicodemus.
[63] John 3:15-16 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[64] John 3:17-18 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- Come to the light today and forget about everything else.
- It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, God is a merciful God who gives you a gift you don’t deserve.
- If you’ve messed up in life like I have, it’s time to turn to God right now and ask Him to save you.
- The sacrifice Jesus made is powerful enough to forgive all sins.
- Trust Him alone to save you and nothing else. There’s enough grace to save us all.
[65] Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Put your faith on Jesus to save you, and you will be saved by God’s grace. Not of works.
- The Pharisees were all about works to be saved.
- Jesus is in direct opposition to that. The entire Bible says so. Change your mind and believe right now.
Let’s pray.
