[2] The title of the sermon: “BEWARE OF THIS MUSIC.”
What Do The Scriptures Say About Music?
- Today, we’re going to look at the Scriptures concerning music.
- We have music of this world, and we have music of the Bible. Do they look the same?
- Does the so-called “Christian” music today look like the music from the Bible?
- First, we’re going to look at the music within the Bible.
- And then we’ll compare music from this world to what we know God wants from His words.
To study music within the Bible, we’re going to search the Scriptures for the following words:
- Song, songs
- Hymn, hymns
- Psalms, psalm
- Musical, musick, musicians, musician
- Harp, harped, harpers, harping, harps
- Instrument, instruments
We find 387 matches in 274 verses. Here’s what we see for matches:
[3]
- We see lots of matches within the Bible that are related to music.
- This might surprise many people but out of 274 verses, 253 of those verses are in the Old Testament.
- The New Testament has 21 verses. Take a look at this chart.
[4]
- Can you find which book of the Bible has the most Scriptures about music?
- The answer will be obvious for this one.
- he Book of Psalms has 140 of 274 verses or 51% of the Scriptures.
- 1 Chronicles is next with 21 verses followed by Isaiah with 18 verses.
- Let’s start with the very first Scriptures in the Bible that speak of music.
When Do We Find The First Musical Instruments In The Bible?
[5] Genesis 4:16-18 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. 18 And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methusael: and Methusael begat Lamech.
[6] Genesis 4:19-21 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
- Lamech was the sixth generation from Cain according to the King James Bible.
- Lamech is the first in the Bible to have two wives, Adah and Zillah.
- Adah bares Jubal who is the father of all such as handle the harp and organ.
- If you look up the history of the harp, you’ll see the harp is one of the oldest instruments.
- Some will say the harp came from ancient Egypt about 2500 BC.
- But we know the truth because the Bible tells us it came from Jubal the 6th generation from Cain.
We also see the organ all the way back in Genesis Chapter 4 with Jubal.
- The internet will tell you that the organ was invented by the Greek engineer Ctesibius of Alexandria.
- But, again, we know this is a lie because God tells us the truth.
- Instruments of music go all the way back to Genesis Chapter 4.
[7] Genesis 31:26-27 And Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away unawares to me, and carried away my daughters, as captives taken with the sword? 27 Wherefore didst thou flee away secretly, and steal away from me; and didst not tell me, that I might have sent thee away with mirth, and with songs, with tabret, and with harp?
- Laban says that he would have sent Jacob away with songs, tabret, and with harp.
- A tabret is like a drum. And we see this in Genesis Chapter 31.
[8] Exodus 15:1-4 Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. 2 The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. 3 The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. 4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea.
- The children of Israel sing songs unto the Lord. They sing about their enemies drowning in the Red sea.
- The so-called “Christians” in this world wouldn’t have sang to the Lord because people died.
- But God saved the children of Israel from this evil Pharaoh. And they sang to the Lord.
[9] Deuteronomy 31:16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them.
[10] Deuteronomy 31:17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall befall them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us, because our God is not among us?
[11] Deuteronomy 31:18-19 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evils which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods. 19 Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel.
- God wants us to write songs so we can remember His words.
- And many times His words aren’t so positive as all the so-called “Christians” want to hear today.
- They only want to hear positive music all the time. They only want to hear what they want to hear.
- They don’t want to be humbled by God. They want to be raised up all the time. They are puffed up.
- Let me read you some of the words to this song God tells Moses to write.
Do You Hear Christian Music With Similar Lyrics?
[12] Deuteronomy 32:5-6 They have corrupted themselves, their spot is not the spot of his children: they are a perverse and crooked generation. 6 Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
- We all need to hear words to a song like this one at times.
[13] Deuteronomy 32:16-18 They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods, with abominations provoked they him to anger. 17 They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not. 18 Of the Rock that begat thee thou art unmindful, and hast forgotten God that formed thee.
- You won’t hear words like this in the so-called “Christian” music of today.
[14] Deuteronomy 32:19-20 And when the LORD saw it, he abhorred them, because of the provoking of his sons, and of his daughters. 20 And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end shall be: for they are a very froward generation, children in whom is no faith.
- God says in this song that He abhorred them or greatly hated them.
- He says, “I will hide my face from them.” Again, you won’t hear about the true God in music today.
- You never hear any songs written like this one. But the churches need to hear these words.
- They are doing the same things that this song warns about.
[15] Deuteronomy 32:21-23 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation. 22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains. 23 I will heap mischiefs upon them; I will spend mine arrows upon them.
[16] Deuteronomy 32:24-25 They shall be burnt with hunger, and devoured with burning heat, and with bitter destruction: I will also send the teeth of beasts upon them, with the poison of serpents of the dust. 25 The sword without, and terror within, shall destroy both the young man and the virgin, the suckling also with the man of gray hairs.
- Remember, this is a song. This is music that God wrote for His people. It’s not positive all the time.
- The Bible isn’t always positive like the churches only want to be in today’s sick world.
- They don’t want to hear about the negative side of God. When you do wrong, God isn’t happy with you.
- But they don’t want to hear that part. They won’t write any songs like this.
[17] Judges 5:1-3 Then sang Deborah and Barak the son of Abinoam on that day, saying, 2 Praise ye the LORD for the avenging of Israel, when the people willingly offered themselves. 3 Hear, O ye kings; give ear, O ye princes; I, even I, will sing unto the LORD; I will sing praise to the LORD God of Israel.
- We see Deborah and Barak singing a song after they won the battle with God leading the way.
- They praised the Lord. This is similar to Exodus Chapter 15 that we saw.
- They sing when they defeat their enemies. The host of Sisera fell upon the edge of the sword.
- And they cheered and they sang because of victory.
There’s not only good in this world as everyone wants to believe in this world today. There’s evil everywhere.
- When evil loses, we cheer and we sing to God. When a pedophile dies, I cheer and sing to God.
- When a serial killer is put to death, I cheer and I sing to God.
- What I just said is very weird and disturbing to so-called “Christians” but not to God.
- Have you not read His words? We sing and praise God when evil loses.
Many Godly Men and Women Played Music To The Lord
[18] 1 Samuel 16:16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
- King David was a cunning player on the harp. Using instruments of music for good is not a bad thing.
- Some people believe instruments shouldn’t be used to play music to God.
- Instruments can be used to produce evil music or they can be used to produce music that praises God.
[19] 1 Samuel 18:6 And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet king Saul, with tabrets, with joy, and with instruments of musick.
- They were happy and joyful because of the slaughter of the Philistines. Was that wrong?
- The so-called “Christians” of today would say that they shouldn’t be singing over this slaughter of other human beings.
[20] 2 Samuel 6:5 And David and all the house of Israel played before the LORD on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.
- The Lord loves for you to play instruments of music to Him. He loves you to sing to Him and praise Him.
- David was a musician. God gave David those talents. David wrote songs and played music to God.
[21] 1 Kings 4:30-32 And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. 32 And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
- Solomon wrote 1,005 songs. He wrote Song of Solomon. He was a song writer.
- He probably learned this well from his father David and was given this gift from God.
[22] 1 Chronicles 6:31-32 And these are they whom David set over the service of song in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest. 32 And they ministered before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, until Solomon had built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem: and then they waited on their office according to their order.
- There were Levites were over the service of song in the house of the Lord.
- We are to sing to God, praise Him, and worship Him through songs.
[23] 1 Chronicles 16:7-9 Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the LORD into the hand of Asaph and his brethren. 8 Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the people. 9 Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him, talk ye of all his wondrous works.
- We sing to psalms to thank the Lord.
- “Sing unto Him, sing psalms unto Him, talk of all his wondrous works.”
- We need to be talking and singing of all His wondrous works.
If the music you are listening to isn’t doing these things, you might want to think about what you’re listening to.
- Beware of music that isn’t fulfilling the guidelines we find within the Bible.
- So, we’re going through all the Scriptures about music. As you can see, music is used to worship God.
[24] 1 Chronicles 16:42 And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound, and with musical instruments of God. And the sons of Jeduthun were porters.
- Trumpets, cymbals, and musical instruments of God.
- If God hated instruments as some religions will say, then why do we see all of these instruments?
- God doesn’t hate music that uses instruments “IF” that music is to worship Him. He loves the right music.
[25] 1 Chronicles 25:1 Moreover David and the captains of the host separated to the service of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, who should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals: and the number of the workmen according to their service was:
- Notice this says they “should prophesy with harps, with psalteries, and with cymbals.”
- The words that we sing with music are to prophesy. What does that mean?
- God’s words in this Bible are prophecy. They are speaking of future events many times.
We Prophesy Through Music When We Use God’s Words
For example, if we sing John 3:16, this is prophesying through music.
- “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
- If you believe “IN” Jesus Christ, you will not perish. You have everlasting life.
- That’s prophesying with the truth about future events through the words of the Bible.
[26] 1 Chronicles 25:7 So the number of them, with their brethren that were instructed in the songs of the LORD, even all that were cunning, was two hundred fourscore and eight.
- These children of Israel were instructed in the songs of the Lord.
- They were cunning or skillful, experienced, and well instructed in songs of the Lord.
- There were 288 of them.
[27] 2 Chronicles 30:21 And the children of Israel that were present at Jerusalem kept the feast of unleavened bread seven days with great gladness: and the Levites and the priests praised the LORD day by day, singing with loud instruments unto the LORD.
- I am skipping over many similar verses as we go throughout the Scriptures today.
- There’s no way I can go over all of them in this sermon. They sang with loud instruments unto the Lord.
[28] Psalm 28:7 The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
- We should be singing music at all times that praises God.
- You might say: “Well, I will sing to God during church. Outside of church, though, I won’t.”
- “I want to listen to rock, country, heavy metal, rap, and other music.”
- Please listen as you should be listening and singing music that praises God at all times.
- You don’t want to sing the music of drunkards, right?
[29] Psalm 69:9-12 For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. 10 When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. 11 I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them. 12 They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.
- Are you singing the same songs that the drunkards sing? If you love country music, most likely you are.
- Not all country music is about alcohol but most of it is. How do I know? Because I loved country music.
- Do you really want to be singing about alcohol? Do you know people worship alcohol?
- They will easily choose alcohol over church. They will easily choose alcohol over God.
- The Bible clearly preaches against alcohol. Do you want to be listening to that music?
- Beware of music that lifts alcohol like it’s something great. It’s not.
[30] Psalm 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
- Instead of worshipping alcohol through song, why don’t you try worshipping God through song?
[31] Psalm 81:2 Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the psaltery.
- Instead of all that trashy music, take a psalm and sing it to God.
- Bring hither the timbrel. Bring hither the pleasant harp with the psaltery. Bring the instruments.
- Can you imagine the music being sung in heaven right now and how great it sounds?
- We have nothing like that here on this earth. Nothing. I can’t wait to sing in heaven.
- Do you think they’re singing rap in heaven? Or country music like John Deere Green?
If not, why are we listening to some of this music here and now?
- Why wouldn’t we want to only hear music that praises God?
- If someone asks you about your favorite music, what would you tell them?
- Here’s a Scripture that gives you the answer you should have.
[32] Psalm 118:13-17 Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall: but the LORD helped me. 14 The LORD is my strength and song, and is become my salvation. 15 The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. 16 The right hand of the LORD is exalted: the right hand of the LORD doeth valiantly. 17 I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.
- That’s a song right there. That’s a good song. That should be your favorite music.
- My favorite song is verse 14 right there. “THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH AND MY SONG.”
- He is my song. When we sing, we want to sing to the Lord with all that we have.
- “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” Now those are great lyrics.
- There’s nothing better than life and God has given us life. Thank you Lord.
We Will Be Singing Songs In Heaven
[33] Isaiah 35:9-10 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: 10 And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
- And come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads.
- When we have joy, we sing to the Lord. Joy and gladness. Sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
[34] Isaiah 38:20 The LORD was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the LORD.
- God loves us to sing songs to Him. He loves us to sing His words to Him.
- He doesn’t want to hear songs that teach evil or wicked things.
- He doesn’t want to hear so-called spiritual songs that teach lies.
[35] Amos 5:21-23 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies. 22 Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meat offerings, I will not accept them: neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. 23 Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.
- If we don’t want to hear God’s words, He doesn’t want to hear our music to Him.
- If you don’t want to trust in God, He doesn’t want your offerings to Him.
- If you want to sing songs that lie about God, He will not hear these songs.
- If you want to go to a church that teaches false doctrine, He won’t hear your music to Him.
- “Take thou away from me the noise of thy songs; for I will not hear the melody of thy viols.”
For example, when we sing His psalms to Him, we know He is hearing. We know He accepts this worship.
- When we sing other songs to Him that have lies within them, He’s not listening.
- For example, there’s a hymn called “Did You Repent, Fully Repent.”
- God doesn’t hear you when you sing this trash. The song has lies within it.
The lyrics say, “Tell us the way, glorious way, we may reach heaven, if we believe, if we repent, if we obey.”
- This song teaches that you must believe, repent of all your sin, and obey God the rest of your life.
- You must do all these things the rest of your life to make it to heaven. This is a lie. TRASH.
- We don’t want to sing songs that teach false doctrine. We want to sing songs with proper doctrine.
- For example, we want to sing Psalm 11 word for word as we know this teaches right and good things.
[36] Psalm 11:1-7 In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird to your mountain? 2 For, lo, the wicked bend their bow, they make ready their arrow upon the string, that they may privily shoot at the upright in heart. 3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do? 4 The LORD is in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne is in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men. 5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. 6 Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. 7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
- “But the wicked and him that loveth violence His soul hateth.”
- “Upon the wicked He shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest.”
- Yes, God does these things. We are to sing of the God in heaven above who is the living God.
- He writes these songs for us to sing so we know His nature. We will know Him through His words.
- You need to beware of music that is labeled as Christian music.
For example, many of the lyrics to Hillsong music are just weird. They write things that aren’t in the Bible.
- They sing these sings. They slowly move away from God’s words. They lift up people as great and not God.
- The Bible says the opposite. The popular “Christian” music has lyrics like, “I am who you say I am.”
- “You didn’t want heaven without us; So Jesus, you brought heaven down.”
- “Oh the overwhelming, never-ending, reckless love of God.”
- We are not good but these songs will teach you how good you are.
- They will teach you that God is reckless or without thinking or caring.
You could look at the so-called “Christian” music lyrics all day long, and you’ll find trash within the music.
- Why is that? The people writing these songs do not know God’s words.
- They pick and choose what they want from God’s words and teach false doctrine.
- More lyrics say, “That you would take my place, that you would bear MY CROSS.”
- “But I’ve heard the tender whispers of love in the dead of night.”
- “And you tell me that you’re pleased, and that I’m never alone.”
The “Christian Music” of Today is Corrupted Trash
The lyrics to these so-called songs don’t match the Bible and are very weird at times.
- They get many things right, but they throw in these weird lines that do not teach correctly.
- People sing these songs over and over and over again and those weird things get stuck in your head.
- Is that what you want? In the churches like Hillsong and Bethel, they teach false doctrine.
- On the Hillsong website, they say this:
- “We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and the “new birth” we must repent of our sins, believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and submit to his will for our lives.”
Does their doctrine match the word of God in the Bible? No, it doesn’t.
- They say, “We believe that in order to live holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we need to be baptized in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit.”
- “The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues.”
- “We believe that our eternal destination of either heaven or hell is determined by our response to the Lord Jesus Christ.”
- In other words, they teach and preach a works based salvation.
- This means they aren’t preaching the Jesus of the Bible. And what does the Bible command us to do?
[37] Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
- The entire Bible preaches against a works based salvation, but that’s what they teach.
- They think you must be good to get to heaven so they sing about these things.
- You need to be very careful. I haven’t listened to one of their songs in years because they make me sick.
- Let them be accursed. So why would you listen to their music? It’s sick and it’s nasty.
- They only write positive things in their music because they have a different god.
Their god says that they must be good to make it to heaven and it’s all about them.
- Their music always makes them feel good because they think themselves to be good all the time.
- If not, they won’t make it to heaven. So they sing about how great they are and it’s obvious.
- But look at what happens in their so-called “Christian” churches. You can see that they’re evil.
- They are a cult. They worship their so-called “worship” leaders.
- There’s accusations of sexual abuse, molestation, and many other things.
- Is that the music you want to sing? You need to beware of this music.
Women are pastors at these churches. They break God’s words. They don’t understand His words.
- One of the women pastors at Bethel church described what she thinks of the Holy Spirit.
- She says, “I view the Holy Spirit like the genie from Aladdin. And he’s blue. And he’s funny.”
- “And he’s sneaky.” Do you not see how corrupted and nasty these people are?
- Does their music sound really good? Yes, they are very good at their music.
- But does their music worship God? The music we listen to is supposed to praise God. Are they?
Their pastors believe you can receive the anointing of dead people by keeping their possessions.
- There’s rumors that state they believe they can lay on graves to receive the anointing of that person.
- A man went to a grave every month to pray to receive that anointing of that dead man.
- Where do they get these things? Benny Hinn.
- He says he regularly visited a grave because he could feel a special anointing there.
- There’s more, but I’m not going to spend any more time on these clowns.
- You don’t want to listen to their music. It gets very weird. Yes, they are great musicians.
[38] Ezekiel 28:13-15 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.
- This Scripture is speaking of Satan. Where did music come from? Music came from heaven first.
- Humans aren’t the first creators of music, instruments, or anything related to worship of God.
- Satan is very good at music. “The workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee.”
- “In the day that thou was created.” Satan was a covering cherub and God gave him gifts of music.
- And now he uses these gifts of music to deceive people. Music brings emotions and feelings into play.
Your Feelings and Emotions Don’t Teach The Truth In Songs and Music
God teaches us proper doctrine in the Bible and our feelings and emotions aren’t a part of that.
- Many people choose a church based on the music they sing because the music makes them feel good.
- Listen, if this is what you do, you have a big problem. You’re making worship of God about you.
- You want to feel good and Satan is using music to deceive you. Be very careful.
- Churches around here try to cater to people to give them what they want. But what does God want?
[39] Psalm 139:17-24 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! 18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee. 19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men. 20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain. 21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee? 22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies. 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
- That’s a song right there that we are to sing and to know. This teaches proper doctrine.
- Would you ever hear that song in a church around here? They would never quote verse 19.
- They wouldn’t quote verse 21 or 22. Would they? No way. This offends the oh so great “Christians.”
- The people in a Pentecostal church would stop if they heard these lyrics and wonder what was happening.
- These people in co-called “Christian” churches believe that God’s words are weird and wrong.
- They believe that Hillsong and Bethel words are right and good. Do you see this or not?
The people at Bethel will repeat the same words over and over again while trying to raise the dead.
- They will sing a song to raise the dead. They will say they people are re-growing limbs.
- They are supposedly casting out demons when they are actually giving demons.
- They pray for the dead. Think about that. Does the Bible tell us to pray for the dead?
- No. Does prayer for the dead help anything? No. When you die, you immediately go to heaven or hell.
- No prayer is going to change that. It’s too late to change your destination.
These so-called “Christian” churches are infatuated with the dead.
- So, hopefully that’s enough to prove to you that you shouldn’t be listening to their music.
- You need to beware of this music. Any of the so-called Christian mainstream music is dangerous.
- Don’t be deceived into thinking you are worshipping God by singing their music. You aren’t.
- I can guarantee you that God and Jesus Christ HATES Hillsong and Bethel music.
[40] Amos 8:3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
- Hillsong and Bethel are sending people to hell with their music. Understand that.
- They are so popular that people want to be a part of their worship services and that music.
- They suck them in and teach them false doctrine. Wake up and see the truth. This is happening.
- Their songs are howlings. They are killing people. Dead bodies everywhere because of them.
[41] Matthew 26:30 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
[42] Mark 14:26 And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
- We sing hymns because that’s what Jesus did and commands us to do.
- The music we sing here teaches proper doctrine. For example, we sing “The Solid Rock.”
“My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame,”
- “But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.”
- “On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
- To be saved, we must WHOLLY LEAN on the name of Jesus Christ. It’s all Him to be saved or nothing.
- We don’t add works into salvation. Jesus Christ is all we need to be saved. We simply believe on Him.
- We simply trust on Him. And that’s why we sing hymns that teach the proper doctrine.
- We don’t sing songs that teach we must repent of all our sin to be saved.
- We don’t sing songs that teach we must be baptized in water to be saved.
[43] Ephesians 5:19-21 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; 20 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.
- This is a commandment from God. Many people will wonder if it’s okay to listen to other music?
- You’ll never find a commandment in the Bible to listen to other music.
- For example, I don’t believe that all other music is evil but I also don’t believe it’s helpful either.
- Let me give you an example of a song and it’s lyrics. It’s a country song. I don’t believe it’s evil.
- I brought it up earlier. John Deere Green. Just like the tractor.
“They were farm kids way down in Dixie. They met in high school in the sixties.
- Everyone knew it was love from the start. One July in the midnight hour.
- He climbed upon the water tower. Stood on the rail and painted a ten foot heart.
- In John Deere green, on a hot summer night.
- He wrote “Billy Bob loves Charlene” in letters three foot high.
- And the whole town said that he should’ve used red. But it looked good to Charlene.
- In John Deere green.”
Why Would You Want to Sing Songs That Don’t Help You At All?
Now, does that teach anything good? No, it doesn’t. It taught many kids to paint on water towers.
- And that’s not okay. The song taught kids to paint on many things. It’s not okay to do that.
- Is it teaching false doctrine about the Bible directly like a false gospel? No, it’s not.
- But again, what good is the song? I’ve listened to it many times. It’s a fun song.
- But it’s not helpful at all. It’s not fulfilling Ephesians Chapter 5 right there.
- We are to speak to ourselves in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs throughout the days.
- We are to make melody in our hearts to the Lord. We are to give thanks ALWAYS to Him.
- This other music sure isn’t doing these things.
[44] Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
- We are to sing the right songs and play the right music so we teach the right things.
- The words of our sings that we sing must teach proper doctrine. If not, we don’t sing them.
[45] James 5:13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
- When we’re having trouble, we should be praying. When we are merry, we should sing psalms.
- Is that what people are doing? No, they aren’t.
- They go to the music that makes them feel good in their flesh.
- Other worldly music will take you the wrong direction. You can get sucked into this music.
- And this music will take you right to hell. You need to stay away from worldly music.
- You need to stick to what the Bible teaches. Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
[46] Revelation 14:2-3 And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: 3 And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.
- There is singing in heaven. They sing new songs constantly.
- We’ll be singing in heaven so we should learn how to sing the right songs now. Why wait?
- The rest of the trashy music that God hates will be gone forever.
- Heavy metal won’t exist. Rap won’t exist. Country music won’t exist.
[47] Revelation 18:20-21 Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye holy apostles and prophets; for God hath avenged you on her. 21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all.
[48] Revelation 18:22 And the voice of harpers, and musicians, and of pipers, and trumpeters, shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft he be, shall be found any more in thee; and the sound of a millstone shall be heard no more at all in thee;
- Why would you want to sing the music of Babylon? The music and the musicians shall be found no more.
- You can see how the musicians who write this trashy music hate God.
- Let’s stick with what the Bible tells us, and we’ll be doing good. Go away from that and it won’t be good.
- The Bible teaches us to sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs.
- The spiritual songs must have lyrics with correct doctrine and not lies. Lies are not spiritual.
That’s all we are to sing. You might say, “Well, the Bible doesn’t say I can’t listen to rock music.”
- Yes, and it doesn’t command you to listen to it either. Do you want to take that chance?
- Music greatly affects you. It’s obvious. Music has led to more evil than anything in this world.
- Why is that? Satan is very good at music. Worldly music worships Satan.
- The so-called “Christian” mainstream music worships Satan. Don’t be deceived.
Let’s pray.
