[2] The title of the Bible Study today is: “REVELATION 1.”
- We have 20 verses in Revelation 1 here today.
- We’re going to move through this chapter verse by verse in great detail. Let’s start there in verse 1.
[3] Revelation 1:1-2 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: 2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
- We have right here in our hands “THE REVELATION OF JESUS CHRIST.”
- What is a revelation? “The act of discovering things to others what was before unknown to them.”
- We’re going to learn many, many things in this Bible study that we didn’t know before.
- Every time we study the Book of Revelation we learn something new.
Notice exactly what the Bible says, though, in verse 1 there: “Which God gave unto Him.”
- Which God gave unto Jesus Christ. God gave Jesus Christ this Revelation.
- That means there’s more than one there. God GAVE Jesus Christ this Revelation.
- God is ONE GOD in three separate and distinct “persons.” Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
- He’s always been the Son of God from everlasting, and He is God on His own.
[4] John 8:25-27 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning. 26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.
- Jesus is telling these people in John Chapter 8 that He’s been there from the beginning.
- He has many things to say to them. But He was sent by someone else.
- Jesus will speak the things that He’s heard from His Father.
[5] John 12:49-50 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. 50 And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.
- Jesus isn’t speaking of Himself. He’s speaking what the ONE who sent Him told Him to speak.
- But we also know that Jesus Christ is God on His own.
[6] John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
- We know Jesus Christ is God because He is the Word of God. “And the Word was God.”
- Jesus is not a creation of God. He is God. He has always existed. How do we know this?
- “All things were made by Him and without Him was not any thing made that was made.”
- All of creation was made by God and by Jesus Christ who is God. ALL CREATION.
- So that means Jesus Christ is God because He wasn’t created. He is the creator. He is God.
- But we clearly see in Revelation 1 that God gave Jesus Christ this REVELATION.
- Obviously, there’s more than Jesus Christ because His Father is giving Him this revelation.
- And why is this happening? The Bible tells us right there in verse 1 of Revelation Chapter 1.
[7] Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:
- We see that the Revelation of Jesus Christ is given to “shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass.”
- Many false preachers will teach that Revelation is written to the unbelievers to warn them. This is false.
- Unbelievers can’t understand the Bible at all. They can read it but it all doesn’t come together for them.
Revelation is written to all the servants who can actually SERVE Jesus Christ.
- Without being a believer, you can’t be a servant of God. Without faith, it is impossible to please God.
- Without faith, you can’t serve God.
- Simply believing what God says and not what man says is what makes you a servant of God.
- If you have believed on Jesus Christ to save you, this book is written to you to shew you what’s going to happen in the future.
- These things MUST shortly come to pass. And remember, our life is like a vapor. It goes very fast.
[8] James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
- All these things in Revelation will shortly come to pass in God’s time. He is eternal.
- 100 years is like a vapor that is here for a little time and then vanishes away.
- At the end of Revelation 1:1, we see Jesus sent this revelation by his angel unto his servant John.
- Obviously, John is a saved person because he is a servant. If you’re saved, you’ll be able to understand.
- Angels are all throughout the Bible, but they are simply messengers of the Lord.
- They pass on God’s message to others. If you give the Gospel to someone else, you are acting as an angel.
- Within the Bible, though, there are different types of angels. But we’ll go through that another time.
- Let’s keep going in Revelation Chapter 1.
[9] Revelation 1:2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.
- John is bearing record of the word of God. He is a witness of the testimony of Jesus Christ.
- Jesus Christ is a heavenly witness from HEAVEN. He is not from the earth. He is an eternal witness.
- Jesus does not lie. Everything He says is the truth. John is bearing witness of this testimony.
- This is the same John that wrote the Gospel of John. This same John was a disciple of Jesus Christ.
- This same John saw Jesus die on the cross.
- This same John saw Jesus in His glorified body after His resurrection.
[10] John 19:34-35 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
- The words that you’re going to learn here in Revelation are truth. Every one of them.
- There is not one lie or one deception in this book. We must read it as written.
- We MUST not add anything else to it or take away anything from it. This is serious.
- All of the things that we’re going to learn WILL HAPPEN at some point in the future.
- At the very end of the Gospel of John, in John Chapter 21, we see this.
[11] John 21:24-25 This is the disciple which testifieth of these things, and wrote these things: and we know that his testimony is true. 25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
- We know that the testimony of John is true. We know that everything Jesus says is truth.
- This is the reason we love the Bible. We can go to these words and know the truth.
- John saw all of these things that he writes about with his own eyes. He saying: “I AM A WITNESS.”
- “And I am writing all of this right here so you know the truth.”
- We MUST stop listening to all the lies in the world, in the churches, and find the truth within God’s words.
- John, who is writing the Book of Revelation, saw all of these things first hand.
- What we’re studying and reading is the inspired and perfect word of God. This is straight from God.
- But, you’ll still get preachers who act as if they represent God.
- And they say things totally opposite of what you read in here. We will stick to the word of God here.
[12] Revelation 1:3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.
- You need to hear that God will bless you if you read this book, hear this book, and keep the things within.
- Why? Because the time is near, and you’ll need to know these things. Not just for now but for eternity.
- At the end of the Book of Revelation, Revelation Chapter 22, we see the same thing.
[13] Revelation 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
- From the start to end of Revelation, God is telling us that He will bless those that keep these sayings.
- Is the Book of Revelation the only place in the Bible that tells us these things? Well, let’s see.
[14] Proverbs 8:32-35 Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not. 34 Blessed is the man that heareth me, watching daily at my gates, waiting at the posts of my doors. 35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.
- If you find God, you’ve found life. The blessing you receive is everlasting life. There is no greater blessing.
[15] Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
- That’s Jesus, the WORD OF GOD, speaking right there in Luke Chapter 11.
- So, what we see in Revelation is not new. If you trust in the word of God, you will be blessed.
- But Revelation gives us more proof of that. “Blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of this book.”
- Remember, the time is near so this is VERY IMPORTANT to hear and to understand.
[16] Revelation 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;
- John is writing this book of Revelation to God’s servants. He is directly writing to 7 actual churches in Asia.
- Notice that John doesn’t say he’s writing to 7 different church ages. That’s not there AT ALL.
- False preachers have added words to the Bible. The Bible says: “Seven churches which are in ASIA.”
- We’ll learn more about those 7 churches in Revelation Chapter 2 and Revelation Chapter 3.
- John says: “Grace be unto you. Peace be unto you.”
- God’s grace means He gives you something you don’t deserve. We have inner peace because He saved us.
Notice exactly what verse 4 says: “From HIM which IS, and which WAS, and which is TO COME.”
- God was, God is, and God will be in the future. God is everlasting. He’s always been here.
- He’s here right now. And He will be here in the future. He’s not going away.
- The Bible says that God fills the heavens and the earth. You can’t hide from God the Bible says.
- You can ignore God all you want, but He’s still there. You can’t get rid of Him. He is God.
- And then at the end of verse 4, you see: “And from the seven Spirits which are before His throne.”
- In Isaiah Chapter 11, we see that Jesus Christ has these SEVEN SPIRITS.
[17] Isaiah 11:1 And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
- Jesse is King David’s father. Two of King David’s sons were Nathan and Solomon.
- Mary, the fleshly mother of Jesus, came from Nathan. Joseph, Mary’s husband, came from Solomon.
- Jesus is called THE BRANCH throughout the Bible. “A branch shall grow out of Jesse’s roots.”
- Now count the seven spirits in the next verse from Isaiah Chapter 11.
[18] Isaiah 11:2 And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
- Upon Jesus rests the 7 spirits. 1) the spirit of the Lord, 2) the spirit of wisdom
- 3) the spirit of understanding, 4) the spirit of counsel, 5) the spirit of might, 6) the spirit of knowledge
- 7) the spirit of the fear of the Lord. There are the 7 Spirits which are before God’s throne in heaven.
- We have those 7 same spirits, but we choose to walk after the flesh many times.
- That’s when we sin. When we sin, we choose our fleshly desires over the desires of God’s spirit.
- For example, when we tell a lie, we ignored the spirit of the fear of the Lord.
- God hates lies. Lies are one of the worst things we can do.
[19] Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: 17 A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, 18 An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, 19 A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
- God hates a lying tongue. God hates a false witness that speaks lies.
- If we have the fear of the Lord 100% of the time, we won’t tell a lie.
- Why? Because we fear God, and we understand what He can do to us.
- Jesus Christ has the seven spirits of the Lord 100% of the time. Jesus NEVER did anything wrong.
- We aren’t like Jesus. We aren’t God. We all mess up every single day.
- As we go back to Revelation 1, we see John is writing to seven actual churches in Asia.
- These words are coming from the SEVEN SPIRITS of God which are before His throne in heaven.
- Who else is the Book of Revelation from? Let’s keep going in verse 5.
[20] Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
- These words are coming from Jesus Christ DIRECTLY. Jesus is the faithful witness. He never lies.
- Again, you can know that the words here are the TRUTH.
- You can’t trust man’s word but you can trust the words of Jesus.
- Jesus is the first begotten of the dead. This proves that Jesus was dead. What does that mean? He died.
- His body was buried, His spirit returned to His father in heaven, and His soul went to hell.
- The Bible refers to souls being in hell as DEAD. Jesus was dead from 3 days and 3 nights.
[21] Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
- The soul of Jesus Christ was not left in hell. What happened? Jesus Christ arose from the dead.
- He arose in HIS body from the dead. His soul was not left in hell. All of us have a spirit, a soul, and a body.
- Your spirit is the life within you. If your spirit leaves your body, this means your body dies.
- The life or spirit within every person returns to God in heaven. Your body is dead when the spirit leaves.
- But your soul is either going to heaven or to hell when you die.
- If you are saved and have everlasting life, your soul goes to heaven and you do not die.
[22] John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
- That’s Jesus Christ, the Son of God, speaking right there.
- If you’re alive right now and believe in Jesus, you will never die.
- This doesn’t mean your body won’t die. The punishment for our sin is a physical death of our body.
- But OUR SOUL will not go to hell. Our soul will not be dead in hell.
- When I die, and I will unless Jesus comes back before that, my body will die but my soul will not.
- MY SOUL is who I am. My body is just a shell. It’s aging, it has problems, it gets sick. But my soul doesn’t.
- MY SOUL WILL NEVER DIE because I’ve put my trust in Jesus Christ to save me.
Jesus actually died. His body died. His soul died in hell. He went to hell. But His soul was not left in hell.
- Jesus arose from the dead in a glorified body, and He is the first to arise from the dead with a new body.
- We’ll learn a lot more about the resurrection of the dead as we study the Book of Revelation.
- You don’t want to miss that part because it helps you to understand many parts of the Bible that may have been difficult for you to understand in the past.
[23] Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
- Jesus is the prince of the kings of the earth. “Unto HIM that loved us.” Do you see that?
- Who is this book being written to again? The servants of God.
- Remember, you can’t be a servant of God without faith.
- God has loved everyone in this world, but He doesn’t continue to love everyone all the time.
- God rejects people in this life because they reject Him over and over again.
[24] Hosea 9:15 All their wickedness is in Gilgal: for there I hated them: for the wickedness of their doings I will drive them out of mine house, I will love them no more: all their princes are revolters.
- God doesn’t continue to love evil and wicked people who won’t believe what He says.
- He gives people many chances to accept His words and most people won’t.
[25] Jeremiah 6:30 Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.
- God rejects people. He doesn’t love those people He rejects ANY MORE. Understand that today.
- The entire Bible teaches that from cover to cover but MOST churches today sure aren’t teaching that.
- If you’re saved by believing on Jesus Christ, THEN you are a child of God. Then, He will always love you.
[26] Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
- If you believe on Jesus Christ, at that moment He washes your sins away through HIS OWN BLOOD.
- It’s not through our good works. It’s not through our blood. It’s not through our sweat.
- It’s SIMPLY through Jesus Christ alone. He has washed us from our sins in HIS OWN BLOOD.
- Understand that right now. You can’t do any works on your own to be saved.
- You can’t help contribute to Jesus saving you by doing good things.
- Water baptism doesn’t save you. You should only be baptized AFTER you’ve been saved.
- And you’re saved at the moment you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
[27] John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
- Jesus doesn’t give us ANY other requirements ANYWHERE in the Bible. That’s the truth right.
- As soon as you believe on Jesus to save you, Jesus says: “You have everlasting life.”
- That means your soul will never die. And that’s all possible through the blood that Jesus shed for us.
[28] Revelation 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
- Do you see that? If you haven’t noticed that before, I hope you notice it now.
- Jesus hath MADE US kings and priests unto God and HIS FATHER. Again, Jesus Himself has a Father.
- Jesus HIMSELF made us kings and priests to God. Maybe you don’t realize what that means.
- If you did, you would be smiling right now because you are a king with Jesus Christ.
You will rule and reign with Jesus Christ. “To HIM be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”
- Glory to Jesus. Not to me. Not to you. Not to any church. Not to any denomination.
- Not to any preacher. Not to any pastor. Not to any teacher. Not to anyone BUT God Almighty.
- We will be praising God for what He’s done for us forever and ever. AMEN.
- And notice that AMEN right there. AMEN is a closing.
- 24 of 27 New Testament books close with the word “Amen.” See the table.
- Only the Book of Acts, James, and 3 John do not close with Amen.

- John is closing his thought in verse 6 and starting new in verse 7.
- Verses 1 through 6 of Revelation 1 are an introduction to the Book of Revelation.
- The next verse, Verse 7, is the number ONE KEY verse in the entire book of Revelation so hear this now.
[30] Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
- Notice there’s another AMEN at the end of verse 7. So, verse 6 and verse 7 end with AMEN.
- This verse is talking about the SECOND COMING of Jesus Christ. “Behold, He cometh with clouds.”
- EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM. That means everyone. When He comes in the clouds, it won’t be a secret.
- So, we see that the second coming of Jesus Christ is characterized by Him coming with clouds.
- What else do you see there? Every eye will see Him. All kindreds of the earth shall WAIL because of Him.
- Clouds, every eye sees Him, and wailing. What is wailing? Loud moaning, weeping, crying, sorrow.
- In other words, it’s not going to be a great day for everyone. There will be all kinds wailing.
The 1st coming of Jesus already happened over 2,000 years ago. Revelation 1 verse 7 is the 2nd coming of Jesus.
- When does the second coming of Jesus happen? The Bible clearly tells us. What would you look for?
- To find the truth, what would you do? You would search the Scriptures. The truth is in the Scriptures.
- The truth isn’t in some man-made doctrine that doesn’t match with the Scriptures.
- We would look for CLOUDS because we know Jesus is coming with clouds.
- When I do a search for all verses with the word cloud or clouds and coming within 3 verses, I get these.
- And remember, this is all the verses within the entire Bible with those words.
[31] Matthew 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
[32] Matthew 26:64 Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
[33] Mark 13:26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
[34] Mark 14:62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
[35] Luke 21:27 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
- So, we’ve seen Matthew Chapter 24, Mark Chapter 13, and Luke Chapter 21 in these verses so far.
- The rapture verses in the Bible are coming up next.
[36] 1 Thessalonians 4:15-16 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. 16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
- I want you to notice something before I move to the next verse.
- It says right there in verse 15: “That we which are alive and remain unto the COMING OF THE LORD.”
- Do you see that? Well, the pre-tribulation rapture false teachers will say that these verses:
- “ARE NOT TALKING ABOUT THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST.”
- But the Bible clearly says that they are. “Unto the coming of the Lord.”
- The rapture occurs at the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
[37] 1 Thessalonians 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
- The Bible is VERY CLEAR that the rapture occurs at the second coming of Jesus Christ.
- So, let’s see when the second coming of Jesus Christ happens.
- Remember, He’s coming with clouds, every eye shall see Him, and the earth will wail because of Him.
- We look to Matthew Chapter 24, Mark Chapter 13, and Luke Chapter 21.
- Because, remember, these were chapters where Jesus is seen coming in the clouds!
- In these chapters, we see the disciples of Jesus Christ asking Him when He’s coming back.
- They want to know the signs they should look for to know when He’s coming. Here’s what Jesus says:
[38] Matthew 24:29-30 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken: 30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
- Jesus Christ says He’s coming back AFTER THE TRIBULATION.
[39] Matthew 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
- This is clearly speaking about the rapture at His second coming which happens after the tribulation.
- When the sun and the moon are darkened and the stars fall from heave, then Jesus is coming back.
- Pre-tribulation rapture false teachers say Jesus is coming back before the tribulation.
- Jesus clearly says, “You’ll see me coming in the clouds AFTER the tribulation.”
[40] Mark 13:24-26 But in those days, after that tribulation, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, 25 And the stars of heaven shall fall, and the powers that are in heaven shall be shaken. 26 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in the clouds with great power and glory.
[41] Mark 13:27 And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven.
- Same thing in Mark Chapter 13. Once the sun and moon are darkened, the tribulation is over.
- After the tribulation, Jesus will come in the clouds at HIS SECOND COMING.
- At His second coming, He will gather together all the saved people of all time at the rapture.
- The tribulation is not a 7 year period of time.
- The Bible never says this YET the pre-tribulation false preachers teach this.
- The false preachers teach that the rapture will be a secret, but the Bible clearly says every eye shall see Him.
- The tribulation is a time of trouble for everyone in the world at that time.
- Jesus Christ is not coming back UNTIL the tribulation is over.
[42] Luke 21:25-26 And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; 26 Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
[43] Luke 21:27-28 And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
- Jesus doesn’t come back until there’s tribulation, then great tribulation, and then signs in the sun, moon, and stars.
- Once those things happen, THEN we will all see Jesus coming in the clouds.
- And why is it a very bad day for most people? Because most people haven’t believed on Jesus Christ.
- Most people will be left while we’ll be in the clouds with Jesus Christ.
- And do you know what happens on the same day that Jesus comes back?
- He begins to pour out His wrath and His anger on the earth.
[44] Isaiah 13:6 Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
[45] Isaiah 13:9 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
[46] Ezekiel 30:3 For the day is near, even the day of the LORD is near, a cloudy day; it shall be the time of the heathen.
[47] Joel 1:15 Alas for the day! for the day of the LORD is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
[48] Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.
- The entire Bible teaches the same thing. The Day of the Lord is the second coming of Jesus Christ.
- He’ll come in the clouds to rapture His believers away with Him.
- All the unbelievers will be left. Great day for the saved. Terrible day for the unsaved.
That’s why it’s important that we tell everyone we can how to be saved.
- Jesus Christ is the only way, He is the only truth, He is the only way to everlasting life.
- This is only an introduction to the second coming of Jesus Christ.
- You’ll see how the entire Bible teaches the exact same thing.
- Next event is tribulation, then great tribulation, then the sun and moon are darkened, then Jesus comes in the clouds at the rapture, then God pours out His wrath on the earth.
Many false preachers will say that Revelation Chapter 19 is the second coming of Jesus Christ.
- They’ll say, “Yes, Jesus comes back AFTER the tribulation in Revelation Chapter 19.”
- This is when Jesus is seen on a white horse getting ready for the battle of Armageddon.
- But, if you read closely through that chapter, there is no words mentioning a coming of the Lord.
- And there are NO CLOUDS at all mentioned in that chapter. Read it for yourself.
- The tribulation doesn’t end in Revelation Chapter 19. The tribulation is over when the sun and moon are darkened.
- Where does that happen in the Book of Revelation? It happens twice in Revelation.
[49] Revelation 6:12-13 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; 13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
- After the sixth seal is opened, we see the sun and moon darkened and the stars fall from heaven.
- That means the tribulation is over after the sixth seal is opened.
[50] Revelation 14:14-15 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. 15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
- The Book of Revelation is cut into 2 halves very clearly just like the Book of Daniel.
- Revelation Chapter 1 through 11 is in perfect order.
- We start over in Revelation Chapter 12 and go in order again to Revelation Chapter 22.
- With all that said, please don’t get overwhelmed with information here. It’s all going to make sense.
- Let’s continue in Revelation Chapter 1 verse 8.
[51] Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
- That’s Jesus speaking right there. He is ALPHA and OMEGA. The beginning and the end.
- He is, He was, and He will be. THE ALMIGHTY. Jesus is saying, “I AM GOD.” Remember, He speaks truth.
- There are false “Christian” denominations that say Jesus isn’t God. They have made up their own Jesus.
- Their Jesus doesn’t exist. Their Jesus is a false Jesus because the true Jesus says, “I AM THE ALMIGHTY.”
- Jesus is God. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus was made lower so he could take on human flesh for us.
- And Jesus did that perfectly without sin PROVING that He is God Almighty.
[52] Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.
- Many false preachers today will say that you won’t have to go through trouble any more.
- God will rapture you away before the tribulation. The tribulation is not God giving you trouble.
- Tribulation is about Satan and his chosen antichrist and false prophet giving you trouble.
- John right there says, “I AM YOUR COMPANION IN TRIBULATION.”
- In other words, you will go through tribulation. John is actually on an island called Patmos.
[53]
- The 7 churches that we’ll see in Revelation are seen there just to the Northeast of the island Patmos.
- John is there in Patmos for the word of God. He’s writing to those 7 churches seen right there.
[54] Revelation 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,
- John is in the SPIRIT on the Lord’s day. That means he is supernaturally in the spirit. Not in his body.
- He’s there on the Lord’s day, which is a future day. Jesus is showing him all these things.
- Why? So John can write these things here in the Book of Revelation for us, HIS SERVANTS.
- And notice that John hears a GREAT VOICE behind him. The voice is not a trumpet sounding.
- The voice is LOUD like a trumpet. And a trumpet is very, very loud. A trumpet will startle you.
- But again, this is not a trumpet sounding. It’s a great voice as of a trumpet. Let’s see what this voice says.
[55] Revelation 1:11 Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.
- This is Jesus Christ speaking right there. He says it again: “I am ALPHA and OMEGA.”
- “I am the first and the last.” Jesus is God, but He is not God the Father or the Holy Spirit.
- He commands John to write what He sees in a book. THIS IS THAT BOOK.
- Aren’t you glad we have THAT BOOK with us here right now?
- Jesus tells John to write and send a copy to the seven churches which are in ASIA.
- And again, John will be writing and sending this book to those 7 literal churches.
- They are 1) Ephesus, 2) Smyrna, 3) Pergamos, 4) Thyatira, 5) Sardis, 6) Philadelphia, 7) Laodicea.
[56] Revelation 1:12-13 And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; 13 And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
- First, John turns around to see this great voice speaking with him. What does he see first?
- He sees SEEVEN GOLDEN CANDLESTICKS. We’ll find out what those are a little later.
- But what else does John see? He sees one like the SON OF MAN in the midst of the candlesticks.
- This is Jesus Christ. So now we’re going to see a description of Jesus Christ right here.
- And listen, Jesus is not like the pictures you see of Him. He doesn’t wear a dress.
- He doesn’t have long hair.
[57] 1 Corinthians 11:14-15 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
- The Bible says it is a shame for a man to have long hair. Jesus didn’t have long hair.
- The Bible also teaches us that Jesus had a beard.
- When He was crucified, they plucked the hair off His cheeks. Let’s see what Jesus looks like in heaven.
[58] Revelation 1:14-15 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
- Head and hair white like wool as white as snow. His eyes are like a fiery flame. Picture that.
- His feet are like fine brass as if they burned in a furnace. Jesus is a BURNT offering for us.
- HIS VOICE is very loud like the sound of many waters. Do you know what else HIS VOICE did?
[59] Psalm 33:6-9 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. 7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. 8 Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
- That same voice you see right there in Revelation Chapter 1 is the voice that made everything.
- That is a very powerful voice. It’s not a feminine voice. It’s a strong and powerful voice.
- We see this strong, loud, and powerful voice throughout the Bible. It’s God speaking every time.
[60] Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
- Jesus is seen standing there in the midst of seven golden candlesticks. He has seven stars in His right hand.
- A sharp twoedged sword is coming out of His mouth. His countenance or His appearance is very powerful.
- He is like the SUN SHINING in HIS STRENGTH. You can’t look directly at the sun because of its brightness.
- Jesus is very bright, very powerful, and there is nothing like Him. He is God.
[61] Revelation 1:17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
- John saw Jesus and John fell at His feet as he was dead. When we see Jesus, we’ll do the same thing.
- We are absolutely nothing without Jesus Christ. And I mean nothing.
- We would be headed to hell without Him.
[62] Ezekiel 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.
- Ezekiel fell on his face.
[63] Daniel 10:17 For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.
- Daniel fell down and had no strength or breath left.
[64] Habakkuk 3:16 When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
- Habakkuk trembled.
[65] Matthew 17:5-7 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
- The disciples fell on their face. But who is there with them? Same thing in Revelation 1 with John.
- Jesus put His hand on them and says, “Arise and be not afraid. FEAR NOT!!!” Why should we not fear?
- Because Jesus says, “I AM THE FIRST AND THE LAST.” If He’s on your side, you have nothing to fear.
- You have GOD ALMIGHTY on your side. Do you understand that? I don’t fear man.
- I will preach the word of God and whatever happens, it can happen. If man doesn’t like it, I don’t care.
- Because Jesus told us what to do, and we’ll do it here. And we’ll keep going until God says we’re done.
- Why? Because God is running things here. HE IS IN CONTROL. I’ll do what He says to do.
[66] Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
- Did Jesus Christ die? Some false preachers will say that Jesus didn’t die. It was His human side that died.
- Well, Jesus Christ HIMSELF says that HE WAS DEAD. “I am He that liveth, and was dead.”
- Did Jesus Christ die for you and for I? Yes. Did His soul go to hell as the offering for our sins? Yes.
- You can search the Scriptures yourself but DEAD refers to those in hell. Jesus was dead.
- But not for long!!! “Behold, He is ALIVE for evermore.” Will Jesus need to die again? No.
- He will never die again. He suffered ONCE. Watch this in Hebrews Chapter 11. This is speaking of Jesus.
[67] Hebrews 10:7-9 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. 8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
[68] Hebrews 10:10-12 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
- The sacrifice Jesus made for us happened ONCE. There is nothing else we need. He did all the work.
- We accept His work and trust in HIS WORK to be saved. That’s it.
- Simply tell Jesus you trust in the work He did and stop trying to earn your way into heaven.
[69] Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
- Jesus has the keys of hell and death. Satan or the devil doesn’t control hell at all.
- Satan has no power over hell. That’s one of the biggest lies in this world today.
- If something bad happens, Satan did it. That’s a lie. Stop giving that loser more credit than he deserves.
- And yes, Satan is a loser. He will lose. The Book of Revelation proves this.
- You don’t want to work for a loser or help a loser. You want to work for THE WINNER who is Jesus Christ.
JESUS has the keys of hell and of death. Death is hell. You want to be friends with that one.
- You don’t want to be friends with the ones that have no power over death and hell.
- Don’t be friends with a false preacher. Don’t be friends with people who hate God.
- We love God here. Be friends with us. Be friends with Jesus Christ. Be a friend of God.
- Forsake all of those other things and start following Jesus Christ. Hear HIS WORDS in this Bible.
- Forget all of the other things of this world. There is nothing better than Jesus Christ.
[70] Revelation 1:19 Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;
- That verse is very important to the entire Book of Revelation. John is writing the book.
- Jesus tells John what to write. Three things there.
- 1) Write the things which thou hast seen. 2) The things which are. 3) The things which shall be hereafter.
- Past, present, and future. We’ve already seen the things of the past in Revelation 1.
- He’s already written of those things. We’ve studied those.
- Then we’re going to see the present day in Revelation Chapter 2 and Revelation Chapter 3.
- And then we’ll see the future start in Revelation Chapter 4.
[71] Revelation 4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
- Notice where it says: “I will she thee things which must be HEREAFTER.”
- That is clearly the start of the future prophecy. So again, Revelation 1 includes the past and present.
- Revelation 2 and 3 includes the present. And Revelation 4 starts the future or hereafter phase.
[72] Revelation 1:20 The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.
- Some people think that the Book of Revelation is VERY DIFFICULT to understand. It’s not at all.
- It’s very easy and very simple. Many people here right now and have studied Revelation with me.
- Many of them know the Book of Revelation as well as I do or even better than I do.
- You have people all around you that you can ask questions to if needed. I’m here if needed.
- But most of all, the word of God is there for you. He tells us the mystery. He reveals things to us.
- REVELATION is written to REVEAL things to us.
The seven stars that John saw in the right hand of Jesus are the angels of the 7 churches that are in Asia.
- This isn’t difficult stuff like most preachers want you to think. It’s not at all. Angels are messengers.
- The angels to the 7 churches are messengers that bring God’s word to the churches.
- God wants you to see the truth. God wants you to learn these things. That’s why He gave us Revelation.
- The 7 candlesticks are the seven churches. Remember, Jesus is telling John to write to these 7 churches.
- Send this message to the seven churches. John sent the book to the churches.
- The messenger of the church took the message to the people within the church.
- Jesus Christ is “THE” Angel of the Lord. He brought His Father’s message to us here on earth.
- That is the end of this Revelation 1 Bible Study.
Next time we’re going over “How Do I Make It To Heaven According To Revelation?”
- We hope to see you back on Sunday Morning at 10 AM for this next study from Revelation.
- Then, on Sunday night at 6 PM, we’ll be going over Revelation 2 in detail as we did for Revelation 1 today.
- If you have any questions at all for me, please ask me directly after the prayer. I’m here to help.
- With that said, let’s pray.
