[2] The title of the sermon: “BY ONE SPIRIT ARE WE ALL BAPTIZED.”

  • Many people believe that you must be baptized in water to be saved.
  • We’ve talked about this a lot and shown clear proof that baptism in water is not required for salvation.
  • But today, I want to look at this in a different light within the Scriptures.

[3] 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

  • I want to focus on the first part of verse 13 there. “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body.”
  • When we are saved by believing in Jesus Christ, we all receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
  • This is ONE SPIRIT. This isn’t a different spirit for each of us. This is one Spirit. And He is the Spirit of God.
  • Since we receive one Spirit and not many different spirits, this disproves much false doctrine.

For example, speaking in babble is disproved. The Spirit doesn’t prophesy different than the Bible.

  • False preachers getting so-called “revelations” different than the Bible is disproved.
  • Little books in false religion are disproved. They say, “We received an extra revelation from God.”
  • They say, “The Spirit is leading me to teach you that you must work for eternal life.”
  • This ONE SPIRIT doesn’t teach us all different and contradicting doctrines.

If someone says they are led by the Spirit of God and teaches different doctrine than the Bible, they are a liar.

  • For example, if someone teaches you must repent of sin to be saved, they don’t have the Spirit of God.
  • If someone teaches you must be baptized in water, they don’t have the Spirit of God.
  • They will say they are led by the Spirit of God while teaching a works based salvation.
  • If someone teaches you must speak in babble to be saved, they do not have the Spirit of God.
  • What spirit do they have then? You tell me. It’s not of God. And they don’t want to hear the truth.

This Scriptures also proves the physical part of us doesn’t matter. Jew or Gentile. Bond or free.

  • False preachers teach that your skin color is important. All skin colors teach that trash.
  • You can find them all over this world.

We’ve all been made to drink into one Spirit. Notice how the Holy Spirit is like water.

  • “Made to drink into one Spirit.” If we drink of one Spirit, what’s happening out there?
  • Do all the so-called “Christian” denominations drink of one Spirit who teaches different doctrine?
  • The Spirit of God doesn’t teach all these different things.
  • For example, so many people say we must be baptized in water to be saved.

Is the Holy Spirit actual water such as what we get out of the faucet?

  • No, He isn’t. He is a Spirit. He is not actual water that has impurities. He is pure. He is God.
  • Getting baptized in water is just a picture of being baptized in the Holy Spirit.
  • God uses water many times to describe the Holy Spirit.

Does verse 13 say that “by one baptismal tub of water” are we all baptized? No, the Bible doesn’t say this.

  • Must we baptized by the Holy Spirit to be saved? Must we receive the Spirit of God to be saved?
  • Yes, we must receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to be saved.
  • Being saved is equal to salvation which is equal to receiving everlasting life.
  • All of this teaching about being baptized by ONE SPIRIT also proves that salvation cannot be lost.

[4] Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

  • Jesus Christ baptizes us with the Holy Ghost when we believe on Jesus Christ.
  • In John Chapter 3, Jesus tells us that we must be born of the Spirit to be saved.
  • When you are born of the flesh, you are in a sack of water. The water breaks.
  • When you believe in Jesus Christ, you are born of the Spirit or baptized in the Spirit. NOT ACTUAL WATER.

People have so confused the Scriptures that it’s absolutely amazing. God put the Scriptures there for that reason.

  • If you have faith in God, you will listen to what He’s actually saying and not trip over His words.
  • You must be baptized in Christ and baptized in the Spirit of Christ to be saved.
  • I am not speaking of being baptized in actual water, H2O.
  • I am not speaking of actual water in a river, lake, or baptismal. He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

Does being baptized in water equal being baptized with the Holy Ghost?

  • No, the Holy Ghost and water are not equal. Baptized in water is not equal to baptized in the Holy Spirit.
  • But, God does describe the Holy Ghost by using something we understand better, which is actual water.

[5] Matthew 3:16-17 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: 17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

  • Jesus came up out of the water and the Spirit of God descended upon Him.
  • Notice that the water and the Spirit of God are two different things here.
  • But, for some reason, people mix up water with the Holy Spirit of God.
  • If water were the Holy Spirit of God, we could turn on the sink faucet to receive the Spirit of God.

Need some help today? Go to the sink faucet and cleanse yourself from sin. This is ridiculous.

  • If water saved you from your sins, you would just wash yourself often everyday.
  • Yes, this is silly, but it’s just as silly to think that water baptism saves you. The water doesn’t save you.
  • The actual water doesn’t wash away your sins. And yes, it’s silly to call yourself a Christian and think this.
  • If you would just read the Bible, you would see this for yourself. Every word of God is truth.

[6] John 1:33 And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.

  • Water baptism is a picture of being baptized by one Spirit.
  • John baptized with water, but Jesus Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit.
  • Do you see that there is an obvious difference here? Water is not the Holy Ghost.

[7] John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

  • Very confused people will take this verse and say that water baptism is a must for salvation.
  • But they just need to keep reading the Bible as Jesus explains what He means.
  • Don’t stop reading, trip, die, and fall right into the depths of hell. Why?
  • Because you were too stubborn to listen to someone who is trying to help you.
  • Because you slam the door. Because you love to have your ears tickled.
  • Because you walk away whenever someone tries to tell you the truth.

[8] John 3:4-6 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

  • Born of the water means born of the flesh. Born of the Spirit means born of the Spirit.
  • Being born of water does not equal being baptized in water.
  • You aren’t born again when you get baptized in a tub of water.

You are born again when you believe on Jesus Christ and are born of the Spirit.

  • You are baptized into one Spirit when you are saved by Jesus Christ who baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
  • Jesus Christ doesn’t physically baptize you in the baptismal.
  • But He does personally give you the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who saves you and seals you.

When you’re baptized, you are to go fully under the water as a picture of the Holy Spirit fully engulfing you.

  • God saves you to the uttermost. You are then in His hands. You shall never die.
  • You have received everlasting life. Why? Because the Holy Spirit seals your soul from sin.
  • And that is the truth. The Bible says so. Jesus explains this in every way possible.

[9] John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

  • Jesus tells us about LIVING WATER. The water in a well is not living water. He’s using it as a picture.
  • He’s using it as an image of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Ghost is the living water.
  • He is the one Spirit we are baptized into.

[10] John 4:11-13 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water? 12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle? 13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

  • Do you see how Jesus Himself makes the distinction between actual water and living water?
  • “Whosoever drinketh of this water (in the well) shall thirst again.”
  • If you think being baptized in water will save you, you will continue to thirst because you aren’t saved.
  • That water has no saving power at all. It’s simply a picture of salvation but not actual salvation.
  • The burnt offerings were a picture of salvation but not actual salvation.

[11] John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

  • Jesus baptized with the Holy Ghost who is this living water.
  • Water cannot wash away your sins, but the Holy Spirit can wash away your sins and does.
  • When? At the moment you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • When you finally trust that He alone can save you, you put on Christ. You are baptized in Christ.
  • You are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. You are born again.

[12] John 7:37-38 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. 38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

  • Jesus says, “If any man THIRST, let him come unto me and DRINK.”
  • We don’t go into the baptismal and also drink the water. No one does that.
  • They know it’s not living water. Then why do they continue to think water baptism saves them.
  • And no, Acts 2:38 doesn’t say that water baptism saves you.

“He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

  • What does the Bible mean when God says, “Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water?”
  • We know this doesn’t mean actual water out of our actual bellies. God explains with His words.

[13] John 7:39 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

  • When you believe on Jesus Christ, out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water.
  • You receive everlasting life at the same time you receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
  • We are baptized into ONE SPIRIT when we believe. The Holy Spirit is likened to living water.
  • The water we drink, swim in, bathe in, and baptize in is not the living water. The Holy Spirit is living water.

[14] Ezekiel 36:25-27 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

  • Do you see how the Bible constantly teaches us that God’s Spirit is like clean water that cleanses you.
  • “A new spirit will I put within you. I will sprinkle clean water upon you.”

[15] John 13:8-9 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

  • How does Jesus Christ wash us? He does so with the Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus says, “If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.”

[16] 1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

  • “But ye are washed by the Spirt of our God.”

[17] Ephesians 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

  • All of these words within the Bible are only made possible through the Holy Ghost.
  • These words that we speak are from God Himself.

[18] Titus 3:5-6 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

  • By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost.
  • Over and over again we see this same thing. The Holy Spirit is the clean water that washes us.

[19] Revelation 1:5-6 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood, 6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

  • How does Jesus Christ wash us once we believe in Him? The Holy Spirit.
  • Jesus saves us by doing all of this for us. This is the gift of God, which is eternal life through Jesus Christ.
  • He washes us in His own blood, gives us this living water, and cleanses our soul from all sin.
  • We are all baptized into one Spirit when we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • This is not water baptism. This would be done after you are already baptized into one Spirit.

[20] 1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.

  • Once you believe in Jesus, you are joined unto the Lord. You are baptized into one Spirit.
  • You have put on Christ. You are a member of the body of Christ. Jesus will never deny Himself.
  • You are in the hands of Jesus Christ. No man can you pluck you out of His hands.
  • This is possible because you are already baptized into ONE SPIRIT who is God.

[21] Ephesians 2:18-20 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. 19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; 20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

  • If you’re saved, you have access BY ONE SPIRIT unto the Father through Jesus Christ.
  • The Spirit of Christ is the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is God.
  • We are no longer strangers to the household of God. We are fellowcitizens with the saints.
  • You are now a child of God forever. You weren’t until you believed “IN” Jesus Christ.

[22] Ephesians 2:21-22 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: 22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

  • Without this one Spirit, who is the Holy Spirit, none of this would be possible.
  • Thank God for the Holy Spirit.
  • “In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.”

[23] Ephesians 4:2-4 With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; 3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;

  • Remember, there aren’t all these spirits of God. THERE IN ONE SPIRIT.
  • There aren’t 30,000 plus spirits of God within all the 30,000+ Christian denominations.
  • There is one Spirit who never lies to us. God cannot lie. The Holy Spirit is God.

[24] Ephesians 4:5-6 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

  • There is one baptism that saves us. The baptism that saves us is when we are baptized in Christ.
  • We are baptized into one Spirit, the Holy Spirit. God gives us the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
  • Water baptism is not the ONE BAPTISM that saves us.
  • We know 100% for sure that water baptism doesn’t save us.
  • When we’re born of the Spirit, we are baptized into this ONE SPIRIT.

Now, knowing all of these things that we just went over, does water baptism equal Holy Spirit baptism?

  • Does baptism in Christ equal baptism in water? Does baptism in the Holy Spirit equal baptism in water?
  • Baptism in Christ ≠ Baptism in Water. Baptized into One Spirit ≠ Baptism in Water.
  • There are different baptisms in the Bible. There’s no doubt about that at all.

[25] Luke 3:16-17 John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire: 17 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and will gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.

  • John the Baptist baptized in water. Jesus Christ baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
  • These baptisms are not equal. John the Baptist is preaching the right things.
  • A water baptism has no saving power, but it is a very good work when done in faith.

Jesus Christ also baptizes with fire. This is yet another different type of baptism.

  • Baptism is fully engulfed in something. For example, you could be baptized in chocolate.
  • You could have melted chocolate and be baptized in the melted chocolate.
  • When the Scriptures say Jesus will baptize with the Holy Ghost, this means the saved people.
  • He will gather the wheat into His garner. But the chaff will burn with fire unquenchable.
  • That’s baptism in fire. Would this be a good baptism? No, this would be in hell.

When the Bible speaks on being baptized in one Spirit, this does not speak of water baptism.

  • The Spirit of God is simply described as water so we can see all of these pictures of things that help us to understand better.
  • But people take these Scriptures and trip all over them.
  • God helps us perfectly by using things that we know to give us pictures of spiritual things.
  • There’s nothing more spiritual than the Holy Spirit. So God uses water to describe the Holy Spirit.
  • The physical water that we know is not the Holy Spirit. Baptized in water is not baptized in the Spirit.

There are many people who have gotten baptized in water who will be in hell because they weren’t baptized in the Spirit of God.

  • Baptism in water is a physical act that is a picture of things that already happened.
  • When a water baptism occurs correctly, this is simply a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that you’ve already trusted in.
  • We trust in the works of Jesus Christ and know that our own works don’t save us.
  • We were born of the Spirit when we believed in Jesus Christ.
  • We were already baptized into one Spirit before we were baptized in the water.

[26] 1 Corinthians 12:12-13 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

  • I hope all of the Scriptures about water baptism and being baptized into one Spirit are now clear to you.
  • If not, just let me know. Baptized in Christ means you fully believe in Jesus Christ.
  • You are now in His body. You are fully engulfed in His body. You are a member of His body.
  • We now drink into one Spirit since we have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Let’s pray.
