[2] The title of the sermon: “WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION.”

  • We’re going to talk about working out your own salvation today.
  • Let’s read the verse that people will use to teach that salvation is of works.

[3] Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

  • Many people will take this verse, twist it, and say that it means something it doesn’t.
  • “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
  • They think this means that everyone has a different way to salvation or to heaven.
  • They say, “You’ve got your way, and I’ve got my way. That person over there has another way.”
  • “WORK OUT YOUR OWN SALVATION,” they will say.

And these people believe this Scripture means that salvation is of works. They say, “You must work for it.”

  • They will say, “Faith without works is dead.” They think this means faith without works doesn’t exist.
  • They believe if your faith is dead then you’re either not saved or you’ve lost salvation.
  • They say, “You’re dead and going to hell if you don’t have good works.”
  • But then salvation would be of works, right? They constantly say that salvation is of works.

[4] Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

  • Salvation is not of works.
  • If Philippians Chapter 2 was saying salvation is of works, then Ephesians Chapter 2 would contradict it.
  • “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus UNTO good works.”
  • “Which God hath before ordained that we SHOULD walk in them.”
  • We SHOULD do good works, but do we ALWAYS do good works? No, we don’t. No one does.

There’s a difference in MUST and SHOULD. We are ONLY saved by grace. Grace and works are opposites.

  • Working for something means you deserve it. Grace means you don’t deserve it.
  • After we are saved by God’s grace, WE SHOULD DO GOOD WORKS. But they don’t save us.
  • If we must continue to do good works, then salvation would be a life long process of working for it.
  • This is a lie. This is false doctrine. Salvation is not of works.

[5] Romans 3:27-28 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

  • Prayer is a work. Prayer doesn’t save you. Going to church is a work. Doesn’t save you.
  • Water baptism is a work. Doesn’t save you. Repenting of sin is a work. Doesn’t save you.
  • FAITH SAVES YOU. Only by God’s grace through FAITH will you EVER be saved. Not of works.
  • Not before salvation. Not during salvation. Not after salvation.

[6] Romans 4:1-3 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

  • Abraham wasn’t justified by his works before God. Works justify you before men but not before God.
  • I can only show you my faith by what I do.
  • If I tell you I have faith but never do anything God says, you aren’t going to think I have faith.
  • But God knows if someone has faith. He can see faith. Faith in Jesus Christ saves you.
  • If you think you are saved by works, then you don’t have faith.

[7] Romans 9:11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)

  • The election are the saved. THIS IS NOT OF WORKS.
  • You can’t call upon the Lord unless you believe in Him.

[8] 2 Timothy 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

  • He has saved us NOT according to our works.

[9] Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

  • The Bible can’t be more clear that salvation of your soul is not of works.
  • You can’t take a Scripture like this and twist it into some other meaning.
  • How would you do this? The Bible says clearly that salvation is not of works.
  • Faith without works exists every day in saved people. We aren’t doing good works all the time.
  • But we believe. This is faith without works and it exists.

Let’s say I am watching a worthless movie one day, and I die. I didn’t have good works at that time.

  • I wasn’t using my faith to profit anyone. My faith was dead at the time because I wasn’t using it.
  • Will I go to hell because I died at a moment when my faith was dead? No. Seriously?
  • Many people die in the hospital bed doing nothing. Did they all go to hell because they weren’t working?

Would they have to be praying to God at the moment they died in order to go to heaven?

  • All of this gets crazy. What isn’t crazy is the fact that you are saved in a moment through faith.
  • THEN, you have everlasting life. Nothing you can will cause you to lose salvation.

And the crazies, who believe there are many ways to salvation, start throwing out crazy questions.

  • What if you murdered someone? King Saul did. King David did. Moses did. Others did.
  • Is it an unforgiveable sin? No. King Saul went to heaven. King David went to heaven.
  • Moses went to heaven. Murder can be forgiven. Saul, David, and Moses all did this after they were saved.
  • They didn’t lose salvation and then get it back because they repented of all their sin.

So, A FACT we know from the Bible is that salvation is not of works.

  • People will still attempt to argue that it is of works.
  • There are hundreds of Scriptures and examples within the Bible that say otherwise.
  • The fact that there are people in heaven right now proves that salvation is not of works.

Your life every single day proves that salvation cannot be of works.

  • You break God’s laws every single day. A work doesn’t cancel that out.
  • Only the blood of Jesus Christ can save you from all your sins. That’s it.
  • Salvation can’t be of works. The Bible never says that salvation is of works. Not once.
  • So, let’s read Philippians Chapter 2 again and pay close attention.

[10] Philippians 1:1-2 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: 2 Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

  • Who is this letter being written to exactly? “To all the SAINTS IN CHRIST JESUS which are at Philippi.”
  • Who are these saints? These are not people working for salvation to get salvation.
  • They are already saved. This is why they are called saints already. They are in Christ Jesus already.
  • They already have everlasting life. He says, “GRACE BE UNTO YOU.”
  • Grace and works are the opposite. GRACE BE UNTO YOU. You don’t deserve to be saints, but you are.

If you actually read the Book of Philippians, you will see that Paul already knows he is saved.

  • He already knows these people are saved. He calls them saints. Don’t write it off as if it’s nothing.
  • They are saved already with everlasting life. Now, what should they be doing?
  • They should follow Paul’s example. He is defending the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is working.
  • He knows his works do not save him. He sets a great example for all of us to follow.

[11] Philippians 1:12-14 But I would ye should understand, brethren, that the things which happened unto me have fallen out rather unto the furtherance of the gospel; 13 So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places; 14 And many of the brethren in the Lord, waxing confident by my bonds, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.

  • The things that have happened to him, the persecution of Paul, has helped the furtherance of the Gospel.
  • “WAXING CONFIDENT BY MY BONDS, ARE MUCH MORE BOLD TO SPEAK THE WORD WITHOUT FEAR.”
  • Paul is set for the defense of the Gospel. He’s telling them they need to do the same thing.

[12] Philippians 1:29-30 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

  • Hey, you already have salvation because you’ve believed on Jesus Christ. You have everlasting life.
  • Just don’t believe on Him, but NOW, also suffer for His sake. Get other people saved.
  • This doesn’t save you because you’re already a saint.

People who can’t understand this don’t have salvation. They keep wanting to work for salvation.

  • Salvation is not of works. We just went over some of those Scriptures. NOT OF WORKS.
  • But you should suffer for His sake and work for Jesus Christ. That’s what Paul is teaching here.

[13] Philippians 2:1-2 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, 2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.

  • He wants you to defend the Gospel, preach the Gospel, care about others as he cares for others.
  • Love others by preaching the Gospel. This takes hard work.
  • Only someone with salvation can do this effectively.
  • A false preacher with a works based salvation doesn’t do this effectively.

But someone who is saved, someone who has salvation, can be very effective at winning souls to Jesus Christ.

  • We have fellowship of the Spirit when we work together with the saints to win people to Christ.
  • Have mercy on others. Fulfill the joy that Paul had by winning people to Christ.
  • Be likeminded in the preaching of God’s words. Have the same love that Paul had.
  • Be of one accord and of one mind in the Gospel and in the word of God.

[14] Philippians 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

  • Don’t have strife. In lowliness of mind let each esteem OTHER better than themselves.
  • We don’t think we are better than others. We humble ourselves and esteem others as better.
  • Maybe my ways aren’t better than your ways. Maybe your aren’t better than my ways.
  • Don’t only look after your OWN THINGS, but look after and care for others and THEIR THINGS.
  • If someone needs help, we help them. Not through strife or vainglory.

Vainglory is is vanity excited by one’s own performances. “My ways are better than your ways.”

  • For example, we all might preach the Gospel in different ways. ALL ARE GOOD WAYS.
  • As long as we preach the truth of the Gospel, every method of preaching it will work.
  • You might choose different ways to preach it than I do. That’s good. That’s great.
  • We will win different people to the Lord in this way.

[15] Philippians 2:5-7 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

  • Jesus came in the form of a servant. You can see this in the Gospels. He rode upon an ass.
  • Behold, thy King cometh. We need to have this same lowly mind.
  • Is this same lowly mind in the people who believe in a works based salvation?
  • No, it’s not. They believe they are better than others. They believe they are higher than others.

This is what Paul is teaching. He for sure isn’t teaching a works based salvation.

  • If you know what Paul taught, he taught the truth of the Gospel.
  • Jesus Christ didn’t send Paul to baptize people in water but to preach the Gospel.
  • Paul is trying his best to get other saved Christians to preach the Gospel.
  • He’s talking to the saints. DEFEND THE GOSPEL. Preach salvation.

[16] Philippians 2:8-10 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

  • Paul preaches Jesus Christ for salvation. Jesus Christ is exalted. His name is above every name.
  • Many people who want to work for salvation HATE the name of Jesus Christ.
  • If you think you’re as good as Jesus Christ, you are a fool. You aren’t even close. NOT CLOSE.
  • No comparison. He’s perfect. You are not even good. He is, though. Paul preaches Jesus.

[17] Philippians 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

  • Who is Lord of all? Jesus Christ. Not you.
  • Stop acting as if you are Lord of all because you did something “good.” Don’t be puffed up.
  • You are not God. Jesus Christ is God. Humble yourself to him. He is the Savior. Your works aren’t Savior.

Your works are dead. Your works do not breathe. Your works do not save you.

  • You can’t call out to some good work you did to save you. Your dead work can’t hear you.
  • Your water baptism is not alive. Your speaking in babble is not alive.
  • You can’t call up your repenting of sins and talk to it. Do you give all your good works a name?
  • I call my water baptism, John. “Hey John, how you doing today? Hope you’re having a good day!”
  • It’s not alive. How can something that is dead save you? A work you do doesn’t live.
  • But Jesus Christ is alive. He can save you. Your good works aren’t the Lord Jesus Christ. NOT EQUAL.

Now, we are to the verse that is the topic of the sermon today. We’ve worked back up to this again.

  • We know that salvation cannot be of works because the Bible says so directly.
  • We have hundreds upon hundreds of verses that teach faith, trust, or believing in Jesus Christ saves you.
  • Jesus says, “He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” Works are not believing.
  • Believing happens IN YOUR MIND. It is not a work.

[18] Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

  • These people are the BELOVED. They are saved, sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • They obeyed Paul. They listened to his preaching. They trust what he taught them.
  • He says to these saved people, “Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”
  • Is he saying to be afraid that you might not be saved? Think about what these people say about this verse.

They think that “work out your salvation with fear and trembling” means to work for salvation.

  • And they say, “If you don’t work for salvation, you better be afraid and tremble.”
  • Wow, is all I can say. MISS THE POINT OF THE ENTIRE BOOK MUCH???
  • That’s like reading a book that teaches your garden must be watered and then you go out and cover the garden with a roof so it is never watered.
  • You got the entire point of the book wrong, and you have no clue what the entire Bible teaches.

[19] Philippians 3:3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

  • No confidence at all in the flesh. This represents our works.
  • We know we can’t gain salvation through good works.
  • We know we can’t lose salvation through evil works. No confidence in the flesh at all.
  • We have the Spirit of God. We rejoice in Christ Jesus. We are sealed unto the day of redemption.
  • On that day, we get a new body that in incorruptible.

[20] Philippians 3:4-6 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more: 5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee; 6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

[21] Philippians 3:7-8 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. 8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

[22] Philippians 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

  • Now, do you think Paul is teaching a works based salvation in Philippians Chapter 2 and is now confused?
  • Righteousness only comes through faith in Christ. It doesn’t come through works.
  • He counts all of those things as DUNG. He preaches faith in Christ. FAITH IN CHRIST. Over and over again.

If we kept reading the entire Book of Philippians, we would see that Paul preaches against people who won’t preach faith in Christ.

  • They preach other things. He says they are evil. Their end is destruction.
  • A works based salvation leads to destruction. They mind earthly things. We mind heavenly things.

[23] Philippians 3:20-21 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: 21 Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

  • Our body that we are in right now is vile. He has saved us even with this vile body.
  • Our works cannot save us AT ALL. We’ve already broken his laws. We are already guilty.
  • Our works will not make us not guilty again. But Jesus Christ can do this.

[24] Philippians 4:20-23 Now unto God and our Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen. 21 Salute every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren which are with me greet you. 22 All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar’s household. 23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen. It was written to the Philippians from Rome by Epaphroditus.

  • That’s the end of the book. He is saying GOD IS THEIR FATHER. He is not Father to everyone.
  • Not everyone is called a Son of God. These people are sons of God. They are saved. They are saints.
  • The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. He says the same things at the beginning of the book.
  • They are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. They know this already.
  • There is no fear or trembling because they might lose salvation.
  • He doesn’t tell them to work for salvation or work to keep salvation. So, let’s read the verse again.

[25] Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

  • Some preachers will teach that this salvation being taught is not a salvation of the soul.
  • I don’t believe that, and I won’t teach that. This is talking about salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
  • He says to the already beloved or saved people, obey me, and “work out your own salvation.”
  • There’s only one way to salvation. We all know this. JESUS IS THE WAY.
  • So we know for sure that Paul isn’t saying to find different ways to salvation.

Let me ask you some questions: “Do you have salvation right now or not? Are you saved right now?”

  • “Do you have everlasting life right now that can’t be lost? How did you get saved?”
  • I hope you answer, “I believed on Jesus Christ, and He gave me everlasting life that cannot be lost.”
  • Now that you have salvation, what should you do? Be baptized in water.
  • Repent of sin. Pray to God. Go to a good church. Preach the Gospel as Paul is commanding.
  • DEFEND THE GOSPEL. Shun the false preachers. Reject their evil ways. Don’t support them.

You have your own salvation. I have my own salvation. We probably didn’t get there the same way.

  • But our salvation is the same, which is by faith in Jesus Christ. You have the same eternal life I have.
  • My eternal life isn’t better than your eternal life. We will both live forever.
  • I may have went the wrong way more often than you. But we end up at the same place the same way.
  • The way is Jesus Christ. We come to Him for salvation.
  • Before we got there, though, it was probably different.

Some people are saved at a young age. Some people are saved at an old age. Doesn’t matter. Both are saved.

  • If you believe Baal will save you, you won’t be saved. If you believe in Allah, you won’t be saved.
  • If you believe Satan will save you, you won’t be saved.
  • If you believe on Jesus Christ, the one who lives today, you will be saved.
  • You will receive everlasting life in a moment while you are alive right now. YOU HAVE SALVATION.
  • Salvation is everlasting. Once you have it, you have it. It’s not going away EVER.

Now that you have salvation, WORK IT OUT. Hey, now I am not afraid to preach the Gospel.

  • Now that I know I have everlasting life, I don’t care if I am fired for preaching against homosexuals.
  • I am working out my salvation. It’s the same concept of working out your body to get healthy.
  • Work out your salvation. Work out your body for health. Work out your salvation so people will be saved.
  • Is that not what Paul is teaching throughout the Book of Philippians? IT IS WHAT HE’S TEACHING.

Use your salvation to get to work. Do these works with fear and trembling. God saved you. Now do what He says.

  • You are now a child of God. You better get to work. You better obey God. He’s with you now.
  • He’s inside of you. You have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit.
  • Do what God commands you to do. OBEY HIM.
  • These same Philippians helped Paul when no other church would.

He’s saying, “Keep obeying in the Lord.” You have salvation. Work with it.

  • Paul is telling him he already did this and was persecuted. He was saved out of those things.
  • He is saved with everlasting life. He says in Philippians Chapter 1, “For me to live is Christ.”
  • “For me to die is gain.” If you have everlasting life, why are you afraid to preach Christ?
  • You’re going to live forever because of Jesus Christ. Why be afraid?

Instead, you should be afraid, have fear and tremble, if you won’t work for God and if you won’t obey.

  • You don’t lose salvation. It is everlasting.
  • I would even say that we’re saved now because of churches like the one in Philippi.
  • They preached the Gospel. They defended the Gospel. They kept it going.

Paul set the example. Others set the example. He’s telling us to keep it going.

  • Don’t be afraid of what man can do to you. Be afraid of what your heavenly Father can do to you.
  • He is with you through the Holy Spirit. He knows what you care for.
  • If you think I am wrong in teaching this, read the next verse and verses.

[26] Philippians 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.

  • God is working within you to do what He wants done. His love is not selfish.
  • He doesn’t want you to be selfish now so work out your salvation. WORK WITH IT.
  • You have Him now within you. Get to work. Put the things of heaven above the things of earth.

For example, I believe and know that learning the Bible is more important than learning other things.

  • I believe and know it’s more important for a child to learn how to preach the Gospel than to do Calculus.
  • I believe and know it’s more important for a child to preach the Gospel than to play basketball.
  • It’s more important to preach the Gospel than to have a big home and a nice car.
  • All of those things are earthly things. Preaching the Gospel is of heaven. WORK IT OUT. God is with you.

[27] Philippians 2:14-15 Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

  • Don’t resemble this world. Be ye separate. We don’t make a game more important than church.
  • We don’t make other things more important than preaching the Gospel.
  • SHINE AS LIGHTS IN THE WORLD. Don’t take your light and hide it under a bushel.
  • How? Preach the Gospel. Defend the Gospel. Contend for the faith. Am I wrong? No, I am not wrong.
  • This is what Paul is teaching in that verse. Others trip and stumble all over that verse.

“Work out your own salvation” like a parrot teaching a works based salvation. Don’t be a parrot.

  • “Well, I believe what I believe is right. I’ll work out my salvation, and you worry about yours.”
  • That is not why Paul said this. DUH. Read the chapter. Read the book.
  • You take the word of God and try to use it as an excuse not to believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • He died for your sins. He was buried for your sins. His soul went to hell as an offering for your sins.
  • He arose from the dead showing He is “THE ONE AND ONLY” Savior of the world.

[28] Philippians 2:16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

  • Paul is saying that he’s taught these people these things. Now go, and do it.
  • PLEASE GO AND PREACH THE GOSPEL so I have not done all of this in vain.
  • He spent a lot of time with these people. Please don’t stop winning souls to Jesus Christ.
  • Don’t make his labor worthless for this cause. God is speaking to all of His people.

Hold forth the word of life. Take it out into the world with you. HOLD IT UP. You have God with you.

  • Go do what He says. Exercise the salvation within you and increase your faith. God will do amazing things.
  • When He saves the soul of someone forever, there is no thing more amazing than that.
  • And, if you won’t do what God says, you should be very afraid. You should tremble.
  • Christians out there listening all over the world, “Now is the time to get up and preach the Gospel.”
  • Tomorrow isn’t a better time. NOW IS THE TIME. And that’s what we’re going to do.

You are not alone. We preach it. You preach it. We keep going. We don’t quit.

  • Paul’s labor is not in vain. The Philippian church labor is not in vain. Our labor will not be in vain.
  • This next generation growing up here will keep this going.
  • Abel preached it. Noah preached it. Abraham preached. Moses preached. Job preached. Joshua preached.

Rahab the harlot preached it. Saul, David, and Solomon the preacher preached it.

  • Boaz and Ruth preached it. All the prophets preached it. Jeremiah went after it. He worked his salvation.
  • Isaiah and Daniel preached it. Hannah and Samuel preached it. You are not alone.
  • Mordecai and Esther preached it. Jonah preached it. Malachi let it all out.
  • John the Baptist came preaching. These people were probably afraid at first. Moses was.
  • They went through the same things you go through. They had this flesh too.
  • Their job was probably much harder because Jesus hadn’t came yet when they were preaching.

Most people we talk to have heard of Jesus Christ. We have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit now.

  • It’s time. Let’s do the same thing as the apostle John, Peter, Paul. Let’s follow Stephen’s footsteps.
  • Paul says to follow after him because he is following the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
  • Jesus wasn’t afraid. He is our example. We follow Him.
  • We use the salvation He gave us so we will follow Him.
  • So we will get the Gospel out with fear and trembling. We fear that others will go to hell.
  • We tremble for them because we know our God and Savior Jesus Christ.

Paul trusted Timothy because he labored with him in the Gospel. He served with Paul in the Gospel.

  • That’s what we are here to do. God wants us to get the truth out there. That’s our job here.
  • We are to preach the Gospel, baptize them, and teach them the words in this Bible.
  • That is our job. Everything else is secondary.

These are our priorities here and everything else will come behind those priorities in this church.

  • Let’s find all kinds of ways to preach the Gospel. We will go out to win souls to Jesus Christ.
  • We will have bad days, and we will have good days. We will keep going no matter what.
  • Chance of rain? So what. Chance of snow? So what. Chance of 110 degree global warming? So what.
  • Ice? So what. Killer dogs running at the door? So what?

This is what “work out your own salvation” means. WORK IT OUT. Exercise it. Faith without works is dead.

  • This means the same thing. Works don’t save you, but you should be doing them.
  • Faith without works exists at many minutes, hours, and days throughout our life.
  • Some people have faith throughout this world right now and are sleeping.
  • They are taking a nap. They still have faith. They just aren’t using it to profit someone.
  • We need to profit others. We need to love others. Don’t be selfish. Don’t be self absorbed.

Care about someone else even when they act like they hate you. “NO SOLICITING IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD.”

  • I’m going anyway. We aren’t selling our bodies. We aren’t selling anything.
  • We’re trying to give you the gift of God, which is the greatest gift in existence.
  • So, let’s get ready to win souls to Jesus Christ and work out our own salvation.
  • Accomplish something with your own salvation. Do something with it. Don’t just take it and do nothing.
  • Let’s get up and get out there. We will win souls to Jesus Christ. We need everyone to do this.

And you need to do this. If not, be afraid. Tremble. You’ve heard the commands from God.

  • Now is the time to do it. If you’re afraid, go with me. I am not afraid.
  • If you’re afraid, go with someone who isn’t afraid. You’ll see. It’s not that bad.
  • Enjoy the rejections. Smile because Jesus Christ is despised and rejected of men.
  • He kept going. He didn’t quit, or we would be dead. So we don’t quit.

Your flesh will war against you and try to stop you. You’ll think of every excuse possible.

  • “I don’t have time.” Do you want to compare how much time we all have? No, you don’t.
  • If I have time, you have time. We make it a priority because God said so.
  • When you don’t want to do it, remember Philippians Chapter 2.

Remember, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. God is here.

  • He knows you heard all of this. He’s watching. You need His help? You better do what He says.
  • It’s fun. There’s no better time than going with a bigger group of people.
  • There’s some churches with hundreds of people and only 2 people go out and preach the Gospel.
  • We can beat that with a very small church. Hey, let’s do this.

When we get to heaven, we want people to say: “That’s the guy from True Words Christian Church.”

  • “That’s the lady from True Words Christian Church that knocked on my door and gave me the Gospel.”
  • “They were like the church at Philippi. They weren’t dead. They obeyed the word of God.”
  • “They did the first works. They preached the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all that they could find.”
  • “And they didn’t stop. They ran the race. They kept going. They lived a long and good life on earth.”
  • “Good job. Well done.” We will all rejoice together in heaven. Work out that salvation.

Let’s pray.
