What Does It Mean To Believe On The Lord Jesus Christ?

I grew up in Christian churches. Most churches never talk about what it means to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Many people, including those who attend Christian churches, do not understand what it means to believe in Jesus Christ or to believe on Jesus Christ.

Believing in Jesus Christ and believing on Jesus Christ are exactly equal. They mean the same thing.

Why Is It So Important To Understand What It Means To Believe on The Lord Jesus Christ?

This is of utmost importance. Actually, there’s nothing more important than you actually believing on Jesus Christ. But, first, you need to understand exactly what this means.

The King James Bible, the word of God in English, tells us over and over again that we must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved from hell.

We are told to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to receive everlasting life. Salvation = being saved = everlasting life. In order to be saved, we must believe on Jesus Christ.

If you would like to go to heaven when you die, and you will die, then you must believe in Jesus Christ in this life before you die.

Just a Few of the Bible Verses That Teach Us Salvation is by Believing in Jesus

So, let’s take a look at a few Bible verses here. There are many more than these.

I could spend hours reading the verses within the Bible that teach you faith in Jesus, trusting in Jesus, believing in the Lord, and/or believing on the Christ saves you.

Acts 16:29-32 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.

What MUST I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved. This is the only requirement to be saved according to God’s words.

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

There’s one of the most popular Bible verses in existence. Let me repeat: “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Who Is Jesus Christ So You Might Believe On Him?

The Son of God is Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, and He is God. He has a Father in heaven who is God. Jesus is the Son of God, and the Father sent His Son to be the Savior of the world.

In other words, God the Father gave His Son a job to do. He says, “Son, I need you to be the Savior of the world.” Jesus says, “I will do it.” This was God’s plan from eternity.

For God so loved the world that sent His only begotten Son. Remember this. The Father sent the Son, who is Jesus Christ, to be the Savior of all the world. Why? Because He wants all people to be saved. And He’s made it very simple for you to be saved.

Did Jesus Christ Get The Job Done That His Father Sent Him To Do?

So, what did Jesus do and why? Did He come to earth to save us?

We are all sinners meaning we have broken God’s laws. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” God says to not lie. We’ve all told a lie before. God says to not steal. We’ve all stolen something before. If we break one of God’s laws, we are guilty. But we break much more than just one of His laws.

There’s a penalty for being guilty of breaking God’s laws. The penalty is death of your body. All of us will die. But there’s a much harsher penalty for our soul if we die without being saved from our sins.

There must be a sacrifice for our sins in order for us to receive forgiveness of those sins. Jesus is that sacrifice. He came to earth to save us.

Jesus Died On The Cross, Was Buried, His Soul Went To Hell, and He Arose from the Dead in His Body

Jesus was born into this world as a baby. He lived here in this same fleshly body that we have right now.

He was born of a virgin. He lived a perfect life. He never did anything wrong. Since He was perfect, He could become the Savior of the world. Jesus is God. He went to the cross willingly and died there.

The Bible tells us in Acts Chapter 2 that the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell. His body was buried in a tomb. He was in hell for 3 days and 3 nights. He arose from the dead. His soul arose from hell and went back to His body. He left that tomb in His body. He arose from the dead. He was dead for 3 days and 3 nights.

Now He is alive forevermore.

What Happened When Jesus Christ Died?

His body was broken. His blood spilled out. His soul went to hell as a burnt offering for our sins. He took the sins of the whole world onto Himself. He knew no sin, but He took our sins onto Himself.

In other words, He has already paid for every sin you will ever commit. He sacrificed Himself for you. He died for you. You should care and be thankful for what He did for you.

It wasn’t easy. He didn’t have some advantage. It hurt bad.

If He didn’t arise from the dead, we couldn’t be saved today. But He did arise from the dead because He is God. Death cannot hold Jesus Christ. Death can hold us, but it cannot hold Jesus Christ.

This is why we need Him to be saved. He has the keys of hell and of death. There’s no one else who can save you from death and hell but Jesus Christ. He’s proved so much to you already. Now, will you believe on Jesus Christ?

What Does It Mean To Believe on Jesus Christ?

So, let me give you an example:

Let’s say you hired me to paint your house. You’ve seen my house painting abilities, and you trust in the work that I do. You don’t even get a backup painter because you know 100% for sure that I can get the job done.

You say, “Josh, I believe in you. I know you can do this. I know you will get the job done.” You know that I exist because you’ve talked to me. Believing in Jesus Christ doesn’t mean that you believe He exists. That doesn’t save you.

If you get some backup painters, then you don’t fully trust in me or believe on me to get this painting job done. If you have no doubt that I will get the job done, then you believe in me.

Same thing goes for believing in Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ ALONE is the Savior of the world. You need a Savior because you have sinned against God.

If you need a Savior, then who will you trust to save you? Will you trust yourself? Will you hope that you’ve been good enough to get into heaven after you die? Did God give you the job to be the Saviof of yourself?

No, He didn’t give you that job because you can’t do it. He gave the job to Jesus because He knew He could do it. God doesn’t fail. We fail. Jesus doesn’t fail.

Did Jesus Get The Job Done Or Not?

Will you believe in Jesus Christ by trusting Him completely as the Savior of the world? God tells us in His words that Jesus Christ 100% finished the work that God gave Him to do.

Jesus did all the work needed for us to be saved. There are no works that we need to do to be saved. Jesus got the job done. He is the Savior of the world.

Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

Jesus did this work Himself. He had by Himself purged our sins. He doesn’t need your help. He already did everything. This is why He sat down on the right hand of God. He is saying, “I did all the work for you.” He is our sabbath. He is our rest. We can rest easy knowing He did everything already for us to be saved.

Remember this. He did all the work. He is the Savior of the world. He sat down because He finished the job. He offered one sacrifice, HIMSELF, for all sins forever. He’s done with that.

Now, What Will You Do To Be Saved Right Now?

Here’s what you must to do to be saved. If you trust in other things besides Jesus Christ, it’s time to stop.

If you think you need to add some of your works to the finished work of Jesus Christ, you aren’t believing in Jesus Christ. You’re trying to add works to salvation. The Bible clearly tells us over and over again that salvation is not of works.

If you believe you must be baptized in water to be saved, you aren’t believing in Jesus Christ. You’re adding work that you’ve done to the work of Jesus Christ. You’re not believing ON HIM to save you. And you can apply the same reasoning to going to church, repenting of sin, being a good person, and anything else.

You won’t be asking your water baptism to save you because it can’t even hear you. Your water baptism didn’t die for you. Jesus Christ, the living God, died for you.

Your works aren’t the sacrifice for sins. Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for sins.

Here’s What You Need to Do Right Now

So, here’s what you do right now:

Don’t wait to do this. On one side you have everything else besides Jesus Christ that you thought would save you. On the other side, you have Jesus Christ the Son of God, the Lamb that was slain for you, standing there all alone.

So you have all these other dead things over here such as your church attendance, or good works, or feeding the poor. These works aren’t alive. They don’t breathe. They don’t even have a name. They can’t save you.

But over here, you have the all powerful God of all creation in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, the Son of God. He died for you. Why would you trust and believe in all these other things? Why would you not believe on Jesus Christ alone?

Most people won’t believe on Jesus Christ. They want to add other things to Jesus? Why? He is God. Do you understand what that means? He has the power to save you from all your sins right now. These other dead works won’t save you.

Take your trust off all of these other things. Change your mind and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Who or What is Your Savior?

There’s only Jesus Christ who can save you. Nothing else can. Believing on Jesus Christ means you fully and 100% trust in Him alone for salvation.

If you asked me, “Josh, are you saved? Are you going to heaven when you die?” what do you think I would say?

I would say, “Yes, I am saved 100% without a doubt. Yes, I am going to heaven when I die?” How can I be that sure? What if I mess up in this life again? If salvation depended on me, I would go to hell. But it doesn’t. It depends on Jesus Christ, and He is perfect and always will be. I am not. I can be sure because I believe in Jesus Christ alone.

This is how I know I’m going to heaven. This is how I know God has already given me everlasting life. I have it right now.

1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I Hope You Now Understand What It Means to Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ

There was a blind man that Jesus healed in John Chapter 9. I’ve been there. I’ve been blinded by all the lies out in this world before. I’ve been blinded by the churches who never teach the truth of how to be saved.

But, please listen, because I promise you: “Now I see.” I know that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. I believe in Him.

John 9:35-38 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

Jesus tells us that He is the Son of God. He is worthy of our worship. God is worthy. No one else is worthy of our worship. We fall at the feet of Jesus and ask Him to save us. And we know that He will, 100% without a doubt.

If you have doubt, you don’t believe in Jesus Christ. It’s time to get rid of the doubt and trust what He says.

John 11:25-27 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

Be like this woman, Martha, right here and simply believe in Jesus Christ alone. Put your trust in Him, and you will never die. Your body will die, but your soul, who you are, will live on forever. And one day, Jesus Christ will give you a new body that is perfect.

Please, whatever you do, believe on Jesus right now. Forsake all of the other things for salvation. Be saved from death and hell right now through the works of Jesus Christ. Put your faith in Him.

Let’s pray.

Will you be running the race to win after you became a Christian ? Why did the guy without wedding clothes get thrown out of heaven? Do ye actions in keeping with repentance? My sheep know my Word, my sheep follow me…Faith without works is dead! It’s one thing to become a Christian, making your life a living sacrifice in exchange for His, but after you gave your life, must you follow , obey, keep from sin? Does God say you’ll wither if your seed only sprouts and you don’t drink Hus Living Water, or eat the Bread if Life? Do you know what “easy beliefism is? Are you following John Calvin instead of growing up in the Word?

      Hey Steve,

Jehovah Witness and Mormons also work hard for what they believe are the right things. You can say they are running the race. They’re running the wrong way. You come here talking trash and have no clue what you’re talking about.

Faith without works is dead. Faith is dead. This doesn’t mean you are dead. This doesn’t mean you’ve lost salvation. Reading things into His words that aren’t there is something you must be very good at.

When Jesus says, “I give unto them everlasting life,” who are you to say otherwise? You aren’t the Son of God. You don’t own salvation. Do you?

Do you not sin, Steve? Are you sinless now? Which part of you?

No, we don’t need to make our life a living sacrifice to be saved. God doesn’t say this anywhere. Steve says this from Steve’s book of fairy tales. Jesus Christ is THE SAVIOR. We are not. He says, “Believe in me.” He doesn’t say, “Believe in yourselves or believe in Steve.”

You sure don’t know anything about my beliefs, but you sure act like you do. What did you read? A few paragraphs of something and just continue with false accusations? Is that what you do? I hate Calvinism. Maybe you need to learn what Calvinism actually is before you accuse me of being one of them.

You will never grow in the word unless you change your mind and believe in Jesus Christ, not Steve.

        Hi Steve.
Dead faith means works of the mind and the heart. It doesn’t mean work works. This is referring to being changed the sanctified process. Having the mind of Jesus and the heart of Jesus and us being made new. when we look back at our old selves in disgust. Wanting to please the Lord because you love him and having a desire to make your Father proud. That’s not works that loving your Father and his Free Gift. Jesus also didn’t die for us but rather die for his Father, for he does the WILL of his Father and through that we have this massive gift of salvation.

Lisa, it’s difficult to deal with people like Steve who attack the truth in God’s words. Once someone is saved, they receive everlasting life according to Jesus Christ. He is the authority so there’s no way a saved person can lose salvation as Steve is teaching. This is evil and wickedness. Salvation is separate from good works. There is a moment in one’s life where they must take the free gift of everlasting life by believing in Jesus Christ alone. Once they have taken that gift, they are saved with everlasting life that will never end. They are born again. They become a child of God in the moment they believe in Jesus Christ. Then we should do good works, but these good works do not save us. That is already over and finished. Some of the things you are saying make me wonder if you have been saved. If you were die today, are you 100% sure that you would go to heaven? This is the most important question in your life. I want to make sure you have been saved. Isn’t the foundation of Calvinism the false doctrine that a person cannot lose his salvation? I read your beliefs. One sentence certainly excludes the other ! If you reject Calvinism like I do, then you can’t believe that you’ve received an inoculation that forever causes you to keep from straying into sin; especially the 1Cor 6:9 sins. I still have free will! I fear God, and if I follow a false teacher like the Hebrew Roots, then I have “lost the faith, I have fallen from grace”. Perhaps your beliefs had a typo. Or, you don’t know what Calvinism is? Becoming a Christian was easy, I committed my life to Him when said I believed He died for my sins. Then, I needed to read His Word, and start conforming to Him. I was immediately taught Eternal Security, the Preservation of the Saints, and other titles of Calvinism. I received the inoculation doctrine. The road is narrow and the gate is narrow, most easy beliefism Christian’s fall into heresy soon, and become Calvinists, Pentecostals like I did, pre-trib rapture believers, Catholics, Luke warm pseudo Christians like I did. Please let me know how an Eternal Security believer is not a Calvinist heretic. Steve

Steve, if you come here to want to learn something straight from the Bible, then I am with you. If you come here to tell me that I am wrong in everything, then I am not with you. So, which one is it?

I reject Calvinism because they teach that Jesus didn’t die for the sins of the whole world. They teach that God will make the ones He has chosen believe on His Son without making their own choice. I don’t reject Calvinism because they teach that once someone is saved they are saved. Jesus says this:

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

      And The Bible says this:

1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

“Faith without works is dead” doesn’t equal you lost everlasting life that Jesus already gave you.

We all sin in this flesh even after we’re saved because no good thing dwells in this flesh. It’s not okay to sin. But we still sin. We won’t stop sinning until we receive a new body that God gives to us.

Committing your life to Jesus doesn’t save you. Believing in Jesus Christ saves you. If you think YOU have to live a good life to be saved, then you aren’t believing in Jesus. You are believing in yourself to live a good life.

Easy believism isn’t so easy because you won’t do it. You think it’s too easy, but you still haven’t done it.

Jesus says I give unto them eternal life. He says He gives it right now when you believe in Him. Keep on calling Jesus Christ a heretic and see where that gets you. I simply repeat His words. If you don’t like it, go somewhere else.

Hey Steve, what about the Revelation 21:8 sins? Do they count or is it just the 1 Corinthians 6:9 sins?

Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Have you lied before, Steve? That verse says all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone. Are you a liar? You just lied to me about being able to lose everlasting life. Think about that one for a second. Jesus says, “I give you everlasting life.” And then you tell me it’s not everlasting. Who is the liar? Is it Jesus or is it Steve?

I’ve lied. You’ve lied. We’re liars. One lie makes you a liar. One murder makes you a murderer. We must be saved from these lies by Jesus Christ alone. He did all the work for salvation. He finished all the works required for salvation. Now, we just believe on Him. He saves us. Then we can go do good works through faith. The works don’t save us. The Bible is very clear that salvation is not of works. We SHOULD do the good works after we’re saved. What MUST I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Do you not understand this basic of the Bible? Are you a master of the Bible, and you don’t understand this?
