The Soul Of Jesus Christ Went To Hell

Many people today believe that when our Lord and Savior died for us that His soul went to heaven or to a place called paradise.

Does this agree or contradict the Bible? Today, we’re going to find out.

All you have to is read the words in the Bible and believe what the Bible says. Many people today do not care at all what the Bible ACTUALLY says, and they proclaim to be Christians.

What Does The Bible Actually Say?

Now, let’s get on to explaining why the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell.

First of all, Acts 2:31 tells us very clearly that the soul of Jesus was not left in hell.

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

So, this Scripture is talking about the resurrection of Christ. His soul was not left in hell. What else do you want to hear or see? To me, that’s very easy to understand.

“THAT HIS SOUL WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL.” That means the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell, but His soul was not left there in hell. Why? Because Jesus was raised from the dead or resurrected from the dead just like the Bible says in Acts 2:31.

The Old Testament And New Testament Go Together Perfectly

If you still don’t believe that the soul of Jesus went to hell, here’s another verse from the Book of Psalms.

Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Here we see the EXACT same thing: “thou wilt not leave my soul in Hell”. The Holy One is Jesus Christ. It’s no one else. This verse is quoted in Acts 2:27.

Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

During soul winning, I’ve heard people say that the soul of Jesus didn’t go to hell. My Dad clearly shows them Acts 2:27 and Acts 2:31, but they won’t believe the words of the Bible.

The Burnt Offering

You still don’t believe it? Okay, here is some more proof.

In the Old Testament, people sacrificed lambs for a burnt offering.

Genesis 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

Abraham is actually prophesying about Jesus because God doesn’t give him a lamb.

Genesis 22:13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

Notice there is a ram there and not a lamb. This is prophecy.

Jesus Is The Burnt Offering For Our Sins

Jesus is the Lamb of God. Jesus is “THE” burnt offering for our sins.

Sacrificing animals did not forgive sin. All of this was a picture of things to come.

John 1:35-36 Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;36 And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Why do you think the Bible refers to Jesus as the Lamb of God?

Jesus is the Passover Lamb. He is the offering for our sins. He died for us and His soul went to hell.

His soul didn’t go to a compartment in hell called paradise. That is a man-made teaching that doesn’t exist in the Bible. The body of Jesus went to the tomb, His spirit returned to the Father, and His soul went to hell.

Jesus Was Dead, But Is Now Alive Forever

If you still don’t believe the words in the Bible, here is more proof from the Lamb of God Himself.

Revelation 1:17-18 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Jesus Christ himself says “I am he that liveth, and was dead.” When someone is “dead,” they are going to hell when they die.

If you have everlasting life, you aren’t considered to be dead. Your body will die, but your soul is alive and will never die. The “dead” are the people who go to hell when their body passes away.

The body of Jesus Christ died, and His soul died and went to hell. Why did His soul go to hell?

His soul went to hell because He took all of our sins with Him. He had no sin. But we do. We sin. We mess up every day. But thank God that Jesus Christ took all of our sins to hell with Him.

Jesus did everything for us, but we won’t simply listen to His words within the Bible. Jesus knows where He went when He died. He knows that His soul went to hell but was not left there. Yet, humans want to argue with HIS WORDS in the Bible.

Do You Still Not Believe The Soul of Jesus Went To Hell?

If you still don’t believe God and His words, you should read John 8:47 over and over again.

John 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

Please simply change your mind today and believe what God says in HIS WORDS. If you don’t believe my words today, please read the Bible for yourself and believe what God says.

I hope you now understand why the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell. I hope this has helped you.

Hi Josh! I am presently in a doctrinal dispute with my son-in-law over the issue of Jesus going to a burning hell, the only hell, after he died. He believes that there was no need for this because Jesus did all that was needed on the cross -“It is finished.” This is where His blood was shed (Hebrews 9: 22). He also now believes, like most churches do today, that He went to Paradise, or to the “good side of hell” after the cross to preach to the saints of old. Obviously he now rejects all of the straight forward verses which directly tell otherwise. In so doing, he is forfetting his belief in the inerrancy of the KJV. He once believed as I do, but was changed by his new IFB pastor. I used the story of the Passover Lamb, which Jesus was, to tell him that the soul of Jesus had to be offered with fire in hell, just like the Passover lamb was sacrificed by fire. Was I Scriptural when I made that application? How can an immaterial soul be offered by fire? Is my science training getting in my way? Was the Spirit of our Lord in heaven during all of this? The Scriptures clearly all us that God is from eternity to eternity – He cannot die. I believe that only His human part (soul) died in hell. Am I correct? Please advise me. What do the Scriptures say of this specific issue? I am aware of Ezekiel 18: 4. Dave C

      Hello Dave,

Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins. You can ask your son in law what our penalty would be for our sins. Is it just a physical death or is it a physical death PLUS our soul going to hell? If Jesus was the sacrifice for our sins, did He take our penalty and pay the price for our sins or not? Of course He paid the price for our sins. He didn’t pay the price for our sins by going to paradise. This is just weird. This is getting into cult like beliefs which will soon turn into other beliefs like “God doesn’t send anyone to hell. God would never do that.” And yes, this corruption is starting to be seen in IFB churches everywhere.

“It is finished” simply means that the work Jesus had to do on earth at His first coming was finished. Obviously, everything is not finished including the sacrifice He was making.

Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ was not just a bodily resurrection. His soul was raised from the dead too. And we must believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. His soul was not left in hell. And yes, I understand what they’re doing with that. “Oh yes, Jesus went to hell but not a burning hell. It was paradise in hell.” That’s pure trash. Could someone please show me ANY ACTUAL SCRIPTURE that says anything about paradise in hell. It doesn’t exist.

Abraham’s bosom is a body part. I don’t believe so many people fall for this. The HADES in the Bible is a literal burning hell with torment. The underlying word for HELL in the Scriptures with the rich man and Lazarus is HADES. The rich man says that he is in torment. He is in flames. He is burning in hell. There is not one Scripture that describes hell as paradise. I can’t help someone who wants to believe fairy tales over the actual word of God. That’s 100% up to him. He can believe God’s words or he can choose to believe the word of corrupted man.

Yes, you are Scriptural when you apply the Passover lamb to the burnt offerings. It’s so obvious. Jesus is the Passover lamb. Why would the Bible tell us this and not apply this to the Passover lamb sacrifice? Spirit’s return to the Father in heaven. Soul’s go to heaven or hell. Bodies go to the grave. Jesus Himself tells us He WAS DEAD in Revelation. This means Jesus was fully dead. His Spirit was with the Father, though. Did God die completely? Obviously not. God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit resurrected Jesus from the dead. Jesus was dead but God wasn’t dead. The body of Jesus was dead and His soul was dead in hell. But His soul was not left in hell. 3 days and 3 nights. He arose from the dead. And yes, Jesus is God, and God is everywhere.

When we attempt to go further from the words of the Bible and understand how all of this works between the soul, spirit, and body, we can get into false doctrine too. We have to rely on the words of the Bible.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The word of God can divide soul and spirit. We have trouble understanding because we don’t know fully understand the body, soul, spirit. We understand the body the most.

You could also say that death is for eternity. The death of Jesus Christ was temporary. He was dead for 3 days and 3 night but death couldn’t hold Him because He is God.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

So yes, Jesus was dead. His body died and His soul went to hell. But this was temporary. He arose from the dead, and yes, this was required for Him to be the Savior of the world. He has the keys of death and hell. So, no, the sacrifice for our sins wasn’t finished when the body of Jesus Christ died. The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We must believe in all of those. We must put our trust in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. That’s why all of this talk about paradise, Jesus didn’t burn in hell, etc is VERY DANGEROUS. People are changing God’s words, and that is very, very, very dangerous. I would never think about doing these things. Hell is not a fun place. There was never a paradise in hell. The words of the Bible prove this.

      Hope this helps,
      Josh

I will Agree that Jesus went to Hell, but your scoffing that Abrahams bosom is a body part does not line up with scripture. Where was Lazarus and Abraham located while they conversed with the rich man? Abraham says there is a great gulf fixed between us. What is this gulf , and is it not in proximity to the place if the rich man’s suffering. The OT also makes no claim of the righteous going anywhere but to the place of the dead. with the exception of Elijah and Enoch. Who and where were the Captives held captive that were delivered when Jesus exited Hell? You must twist scripture to put Abraham and Lazarus in the same hell as the rich man when they clearly are in two separated but parallel locations. Paradise as contained in Hell is not a man made doctrine , but rather a sound reading of Luke 16. Abraham and Lazarus are seen far off. They are recognizable , they are near enough to speak to , yet they cannot pass the gulf. Lazarus is not in torment, the Rich man is . An intelligent deduction would be that they were in two compartments of the same physical place.

Ron, why don’t you read more of what I teach? You probably listened to or read a small portion and then you make your judgement from that. You didn’t listen to everything. I have entire sermons that resulted from complete Bible studies front to back of the Bible. I could really care less what you agree with. I am not looking for your approval. I look for God’s approval. Everyone wants to comment to let me know they don’t approve. Don’t care. The Scriptures say what the Scriptures say. I never once said that Abraham was in hell. So this tells me that you didn’t listen to or read anything, but you want to tell me where I am wrong. This is typical of most people so you don’t surprise me. Abraham went to heaven when he died. He wasn’t captive. Leading captivity captive doesn’t mean every saved person from the Old Testament went to a compartment in hell. It’s a fairy tale, Ron. It’s not in the Scriptures. You’re adding things to the Scriptures that aren’t there. If you actually want to listen to the Scriptures, then you would see this. Lazarus went to heaven and was in the bosom of Abraham. Abraham had his arm around him in heaven. A bosom is not a compartment in hell. And yes, I scoff at that because no one in their right mind would think a bosom is a compartment in hell when Abraham clearly didn’t go to hell. Did Noah go to Abraham’s bosom when Abraham wasn’t alive yet? What about Adam and Abel and Seth? Where did they go? Did they go to Noah’s bosom? Abraham hadn’t lived yet. What an idiotic false doctrine. Get over it. You’ve been deceived. Now believe what the actual Scriptures say. I believed that trash in the past too when I was a fool and didn’t rely on the Scriptures. I was wrong then. Now, I am not wrong because I base every doctrine I believe in FULLY on the Scriptures alone. Now it’s time to wake up, Ron.
