[1] The title of the sermon today is “DID JESUS GO TO HELL?”

Yes, Jesus Christ Went To Hell For 3 Days And 3 Nights

• Did you know that I teach that Jesus Christ died and went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights?
• Many people will call me a heretic for saying that, but I believe what the Bible says.
• Is it important to believe that Jesus went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights?
• After this sermon, you can tell me if you think it’s important to believe this.
• God Almighty put it in the Bible. That’s why I know it’s very important to understand and believe.
• I want you to be the judge today and tell me whether or not Jesus Christ went to hell.
• To start, I want to go to Psalm Chapter 16 where King David is speaking.

[2] Psalm 16:8-9 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. 9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

• Notice that King David says right there at the end: “My flesh also shall REST in hope.”

[3] Psalm 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

• You might think this is King David speaking of himself, but we know that he’s not talking about himself.
• We know because King David didn’t go to hell. King David was a saved man. His soul went to heaven.
• No man has ever been to hell and made it out except the Lord Jesus Christ.
• When verse 10 says, “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell” this is speaking about Jesus.
• When verse 10 says, “Neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption this is talking about Jesus.
• Why is His flesh resting in hope? It’s because He’s not in a good place. He’s hoping to get out of there.
• Some people say Jesus went to paradise when He died, but why would He hope to get out of there?
• Why do people confuse paradise with hell? They sure aren’t close to the same thing.

The first half of verse 10 is talking about the soul of Jesus. The second part talks about the body of Jesus.

• Do you see that? The soul of Jesus is not left in hell. The body of Jesus doesn’t see corruption.
• And you might say, “But how do you know that’s talking about Jesus?” The Scriptures tell us.
• Let’s go to Acts Chapter 2. Peter stands up with the 11 disciples and preaches to the Jews about Jesus.
• Peter is going to quote King David from Psalms Chapter 16 that we just read.

[4] Acts 2:25-26 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

• Notice that verse 26 says, “Moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope.” This is quoting Psalm Chapter 16.
• But more importantly, I want you to see that it says at the beginning there:
• “FOR DAVID SPEAKETH CONCERNING HIM.” Who is the HIM in that verse? The Lord Jesus Christ.
• In Psalm Chapter 16, David is speaking concerning the Lord Jesus Christ. He is “THE” HOLY ONE.
• There is no other HOLY ONE that has lived on this earth but Jesus Christ.

[5] Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

• Acts Chapter 2 tells us that David is talking about Jesus Christ. The soul of Jesus Christ was not left in hell.
• The body of Jesus Christ did not see corruption. He was dead for 3 days and 3 nights.
• And yes, this is very important to understand. And yes, that’s why false preachers teach different.
• That’s all I need to see to believe that the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell.
• That should be enough for anyone to believe that. But it’s not because they’re being deceived.
• I want to continue reading in Acts Chapter 2.

[6] Acts 2:29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

• Peter preaches this through the Holy Ghost because God wants to make this very clear.
• Psalm Chapter 16 is not talking about King David’s soul and flesh.
• Peter says, “TO THIS DAY, KING DAVID IS BOTH DEAD AND BURIED IN HIS SEPULCHRE TO THIS DAY.”
• In other words, King David hasn’t risen from the dead. King David’s soul didn’t go to hell.

[7] Acts 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

• This tells us that King David was a prophet.
• David knew there would be another after him that would be the Savior of the world.
• God swore an oath to King David that the Savior of the world would come from the fruit of his loins.
• King David knew that God would raise up Christ the Savior to sit on HIS THRONE.
• Solomon was David’s son and Joseph was from Solomon’s line.
• Nathan was David’s son and Mary was from Nathan’s line. Both Joseph and Mary were from David’s loins.
• Jesus Christ was born of Mary. Jesus had the right to sit on the throne as He came from that line of kings.

[8] Acts 2:31-32 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

• Verse 31 tells us that King David spake of the resurrection of Christ.
• Is the resurrection of Christ all about His flesh being raised? His flesh couldn’t be raised without His soul.
• “He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that HIS SOUL was not left in hell.”
• “Neither did his flesh see corruption.” The resurrection of Christ includes His soul being in hell.
• The resurrection of Christ includes His flesh not seeing corruption.
• In other words, if you believe in the resurrection of Christ, you MUST believe that HIS SOUL went to hell.

What Is The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ? Just His Body?

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is defined in Psalm Chapter 16 and Acts Chapter 2.

• Acts 2:31 defines the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• 2 things: 1) His soul was not left in hell, 2) His flesh did not see corruption.
• Do you all see that? I’m not changing the words of the Bible. I’m not twisting the words of the Bible.
• That’s what God says plain and clear. Verse 32 says, “This Jesus hath God raised up.”
• Don’t get the wrong Jesus. The Jesus in the Bible went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights. That’s THIS JESUS.
• This Jesus was resurrected spiritually and physically. His resurrection was a bodily resurrection.
• This means His soul was resurrected from the dead, and Jesus arose with His soul in His body.

Make sure you have the right Jesus. Jehovah’s Witness teach the resurrection of Jesus wasn’t bodily.

• Peter was an eye witness with the other disciples of this bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• Peter says, “Whereof we all are witnesses.” It wasn’t just Peter.
• Those men stood there beside Peter as witnesses. “THIS JESUS HATH GOD RAISED UP.”
• In Luke Chapter 24, the resurrected Jesus Christ of Nazareth stands before His disciples.

[9] Luke 24:36-38 And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you. 37 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. 38 And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?

[10] Luke 24:39-40 Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have. 40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.

[11] Luke 24:41-43 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat? 42 And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. 43 And he took it, and did eat before them.

• How can you read that and follow the Jehovah’s Witness false religion? We need to wake up.
• Jesus arose in His body from the dead.
• And remember, Jesus just showed up to the disciples so they could see Him in HIS BODY.
• “For a spirit hath not flesh and bones.” He showed them His hands and feet. They still didn’t believe.
• So Jesus says, “Give me some food then.” And He ate food with them. He was in His body.
• But watch what Jesus says next in Luke Chapter 24.

[12] Luke 24:44 And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

• Jesus talks about what was written of Him in the Psalms. That’s what we just read.
• He’s telling them that He is risen from THE DEAD. He is risen from the DEAD!!!
• His soul was in hell, but it wasn’t left there. His flesh did not see corruption.

[13] Luke 24:45-48 Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, 46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: 47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 And ye are witnesses of these things.

• Jesus arose from the dead the third day. Notice I am focusing on the word DEAD.
• Repentance and remissions of sins should be preached in HIS NAME. Not your name. In HIS name.
• Repentance for salvation is changing your mind and believing that Jesus Christ is THAT Christ, that Savior.

That’s what Peter was doing in Acts Chapter 2. He was doing exactly what Jesus said to do.

• He was preaching in Acts Chapter 2 to the nations beginning at Jerusalem just as Jesus said in verse 47.
• He was preaching that Jesus SUFFERED. Do you see that in verse 46?
• Jesus suffered and rose from the dead. We know that Jesus SUFFERED. We know He arose from the dead.
• Why I am going to now focus on Jesus suffering and being dead? He suffered and He was dead!
• I’m doing this because there’s a lot of lies out there concerning Jesus Christ dying.
• And I want to make sure you have this right based on Scripture. I don’t want anyone fooling you.

Many false preachers will say that Jesus didn’t go to hell. They’ll say He died on the cross and that was it.

• They’ll say that “IT WAS FINISHED” on the cross and that’s all we needed to be forgiven of our sins.
• They’ll say that Jesus went to paradise for 3 days and 3 nights and didn’t suffer in hell.
• They’ll say that Jesus had a party with the Old Testament saints in Abraham’s bosom.
• They’ll say Abraham’s bosom is a compartment in hell called paradise and it’s not a bad place.
• They’ll say that there’s no way the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell because it just doesn’t make sense.
• “HOW CAN GOD DIE? IF YOU SAY THAT GOD DIED, YOU’RE A HERETIC.”

Jesus Knows Firsthand What Happened To Him

Well guess what? I didn’t say it. The Bible says it, and last time I checked, the Bible is the WORD OF GOD.

• It’s not the word of Josh. It’s the word of “THE ALMIGHTY GOD.” Let’s see what Jesus says.
• I think Jesus might know what happened to Him first hand. Wouldn’t you say?
• Is there any greater witness than God Himself?

[14] Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

• That’s Jesus Christ speaking in Revelation Chapter 1. That’s HIS WORDS.
• “I am he that liveth, and was dead.” Did Jesus say He was dead? That’s not talking about just His body.
• That’s talking about His soul was dead because His soul was in hell for 3 days and 3 nights.
• Jesus has the keys of HELL and of DEATH. He didn’t just take the keys of a bodily death.
• He took the keys of HELL and of DEATH. He conquered death and hell.

[15] Revelation 2:8 And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive;

• Jesus was dead. Do you see that? He died on the cross, His soul went to hell, His body was buried.
• The Bible refers to those people in hell as “THE DEAD.” Your soul is eternal.
• Your soul will continue forever, and it’s either going to be dead or alive. That’s the only 2 options.
• Heaven or hell. That’s it. If your soul goes to hell, you’re considered dead.
• If you’re soul goes to heaven, you’re considered alive. That’s it.
• Jesus WAS DEAD because His soul was in hell. Do you remember the great white throne judgement?
• Revelation Chapter 20 should come to mind. Let’s look at that Scripture.

[16] Revelation 20:11-12 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

• Verse 12 says, “AND I SAW THE DEAD. AND THE DEAD WERE JUDGED.”

[17] Revelation 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

• That’s a very important to the point I’m trying to make here. Jesus was dead because His soul was in hell.
• Verse 13 right there says, “And death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them.”
• The dead don’t go to heaven. The dead don’t go to paradise. The dead don’t ascend into heaven.
• The dead SUFFER in hell. It’s not a good place. There is no paradise in hell.
• Jesus didn’t go have a party in paradise in hell. Scripture doesn’t say that. It’s a fairy tale.
• He suffered for us. That’s what the Bible says. His soul was resurrected from hell.
• His body was resurrected from the sepulchre and raised from THE DEAD.

There is no dead person in heaven. Their souls are alive forevermore. They aren’t dead.

• When Abraham died, his body was buried and his soul went to heaven immediately.
• Abraham didn’t go to a place called Abraham’s bosom. It doesn’t make any sense with the Bible.
• It’s like I’m watching some weird science fiction movie when someone mentions a compartment in hell.
• “Yes, this compartment in hell is called Abraham’s bosom.” No, it’s not. Abraham went to heaven.
• Abraham’s bosom is his chest. It’s a body part. You hug someone and put your arm around them.
• That’s called them being in your bosom. You have them pulled close to your chest.
• Let’s look at more proof that Jesus descended into hell.

[18] Matthew 12:38-39 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

• That’s Jesus speaking to the scribes and the Pharisees in Matthew Chapter 12. They wanted a sign.
• Jesus says, “The only sign you’re getting is the sign of the prophet Jonas.” What is this sign?
• Look, this must be an important sign because Jesus says this is the only one you’re getting.

[19] Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

• Jonah being in the whale’s belly for 3 days and 3 nights is a sign of Jesus going to hell for 3 days and 3 nights.
• Jonah wasn’t in paradise when he was swallowed up by the whale. It was a picture of hell.
• Hell is in the heart of the earth right now.

[20] Psalm 63:9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.

• The Son of man shall be 3 days and 3 nights in the heart of the earth, which is hell.
• Let’s see what the Book of Jonah says since this sign Jesus is talking about is so important.
• At the very end of Jonah Chapter 1, we see this.

[21] Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

• Now, let’s continue in Jonah Chapter 2 verse 1.

Out Of The Belly Of Hell I Cried

[22] Jonah 2:1-2 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, 2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

• This is talking about Jesus Christ. It happened to Jonah, but it’s a sign showing us what happened to Jesus.
• I know 100% for sure that what I’m saying is the truth. Jesus cried out from hell to God, and he heard Him.
• That should show you how much Jesus suffered for you and I. That should make you realize what He did.
• And then you have these sicko preachers minimizing what Jesus did. It makes me sick to my stomach.
• The Bible isn’t difficult to understand. Jesus Christ suffered in the lowest hell for our sick sins.
• Yes, He suffered for those sicko preachers who won’t listen to the words of Jesus Christ.
• Jesus went into the lowest hell because of all the sins of the world. You can’t get lower than that.
• Think about that. Hell has different levels and Jesus Christ went to the lowest of hell because of us.

[23] Psalm 86:10-13 For thou art great, and doest wondrous things: thou art God alone. 11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. 12 I will praise thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and I will glorify thy name for evermore. 13 For great is thy mercy toward me: and thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.

• Again, in Psalm Chapter 86, this is King David speaking. Notice verse 13 closely.
• “And thou hast delivered my soul from the lowest hell.” David didn’t go to hell. Jesus Christ did.
• Jesus Christ went to the lowest hell because of our sin, and He suffered there.
• He did nothing wrong and yet He suffered for you and I. That’s why I’m here right now.
• I’m going to do my best to do what Jesus asks me to do because He died for me.
• He gave me life even though I really don’t deserve it.
• He gave me eternal life even though I really, really, really don’t deserve it.
• But I love Him more because I’ve done so many things wrong, and He forgave my debt that I owe.

[24] Luke 7:39-40 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. 40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on.

[25] Luke 7:41-43 There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? 43 Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

• When we won’t believe the words that Jesus speak within the Bible, that’s a GREAT SIN.
• We should just compare ourselves to the Pharisees because they wouldn’t hear the words of Jesus.
• Why don’t we just listen to the one who saved us instead of these false preachers making up lies?
• The Bible is the word of God. Jesus Christ wrote the Bible. He is God. Let’s hear more in Jonah Chapter 2.

[26] Jonah 2:1-2 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish’s belly, 2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

• If you don’t think Jesus Christ cried out to God while He was in hell, you aren’t hearing God’s words.

[27] Jonah 2:3-4 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. 4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

• Do you see verse 4? It says, “I am cast out of thy sight.” God can’t be around sin.
• When we sin, we forsake God. Jesus took all that sin onto Himself and was forsaken by His Father.
• That’s sad. He did nothing wrong. We sinned. He took it all and was forsaken by His Great Father.
• He loves His Father and proved it by doing everything He ever asked. Jesus stood up for us and saved us.

[28] Psalm 22:1-2 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? 2 O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.

• Guess who Psalm Chapter 22 is talking about? It’s talking about Jesus Christ.
• “O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.”
• He was in hell for 3 days and 3 nights. The Holy One, the eternal one, went to hell and cried to God.

[29] Psalm 22:4-6 Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5 They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded. 6 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

• Jesus says, “Our fathers trusted in thee and thou didst deliver them. They cried and were delivered.”
• Jesus says, “But I am worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.”
• He was perfect but despised by His own people.

[30] Psalm 22:7-9 All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, 8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. 9 But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother’s breasts.

• You can’t read Psalm Chapter 22 and not see that this is talking about Jesus Christ.
• They shouted: “Save thyself and come down from the cross.”

[31] Psalm 22:11-13 Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help. 12 Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round. 13 They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.

• When you’re in hell, there is none to help. “For there is none to help.”

[32] Psalm 22:16-18 For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet. 17 I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. 18 They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.

• This matches everything we know about the death of Jesus Christ. It matches the Gospels perfectly.

[33] Psalm 22:19-21 But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me. 20 Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog. 21 Save me from the lion’s mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.

• God forsook Jesus Christ because He took all the sins of the world. The soul of Jesus went to hell.

Why Hast Thou Forsaken Me?

[34] Mark 15:34-35 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? 35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

[35] Mark 15:36-37 And one ran and filled a spunge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down. 37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

[36] Mark 15:38-39 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom. 39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

• Why don’t we listen to the Bible today and stop listening to the words of men and women.
• That centurion’s words are written Bible because they are truth.
• He said, “TRULY THIS MAN WAS THE SON OF GOD.” And THAT JESUS went to hell.
• If God didn’t forsake Jesus, He wouldn’t have been sent to hell.

[37] Jonah 2:5-6 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

• The waters compassed me about, even to THE SOUL. His soul went to hell.
• He went to the bottoms of the mountains. Do you know where that is?
• That’s hell. Jonah didn’t actually go to hell just like King David didn’t go to hell.
• But Jesus Christ did. This is prophecy telling us what’s going to happen. And that already happened.
• “YET HAST THOU BROUGHT UP MY LIFE FROM CORRUPTION, O LORD MY GOD.”
• I hope you’re hearing this today. Do you think it’s important to understand Jesus went to hell?

[38] Jonah 2:7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

• “My soul fainted within me.” Jesus didn’t go to paradise for some fun. God heard Jesus.
• And God raised Jesus from the dead. He was dead and is now alive forevermore.
• Jesus died on the cross, His soul went to hell, and His body was buried.
• But that’s not the end of the story. Many people can do that.
• There was another man that day that died on the cross, his soul went to hell, and his body was buried.
• Many false preachers will say that’s all that was needed that day because Jesus said, “It is finished.”
• They’ll say that His soul didn’t go to hell and didn’t need to go to hell because “IT WAS FINISHED.”

What was finished when Jesus said, “IT IS FINISHED?” We don’t take a guess at it. What do we do?

• We go to the word of God to answer all of our questions. We don’t make something up.
• We search the Scriptures. We find the answers from Jesus Christ Himself.

[39] John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

• If you ever have a question about some doctrine someone is teaching, you search the Scriptures.
• What did Jesus mean when He said, “It is finished?”

[40] John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

• Right before Jesus died He said, “It is finished.” What was finished? Most false preachers say the sacrifice.
• They’ll say the blood of Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins and that’s all that is needed to save us.
• And yes, the blood of Jesus Christ is ENOUGH to save us but Jesus wasn’t finished.
• The Gospel that saves us is the DEATH, THE BURIAL, and THE RESURRECTION.
• We need to believe the Gospel to be saved. We need to know that He died for us, was buried, and arose from the dead.

Of course the blood of Jesus Christ is enough to save us. But Jesus wasn’t finished.

• He’s still not finished. He’s coming in the clouds. He’s going to pour out His wrath.
• He’s coming for the Battle of Armageddon. He’s going to rule 1,000 years.
• He’s not finished with Satan yet. He’ll be there for the Battle of Gog and Magog.
• He’s going to be there for the Great White Throne Judgement. He wasn’t finished.
• He went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights. He arose from the dead. He appeared to many witnesses.
• He breathed the gift of the Holy Ghost on the disciples. He ascended into heaven.
• He wasn’t finished. So what did He mean when He said, “IT IS FINISHED?”
• He came to fulfill the Scriptures and to finish the work that His Father gave Him to do.
• He finished everything He had to do up to the point of dying on the cross.

[41] John 19:28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.

• He knew all things were now accomplished. Not all things of all time. There’s more to come obviously.
• He meant He had finished all the work He was sent to do before He died on the cross.

[42] John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

[43] John 5:36 But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

• He’s doing all the works He needs to do to bear witness that He is the Son of God. That’s what He finished.

[44] John 10:25 Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.

[45] John 10:37-38 If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not. 38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.

• Jesus couldn’t have done those works if He wasn’t from God the Father.

It Is Finished = Jesus Finished The Work God Gave Him To Do At This Time

[46] John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

• Do you see that? Jesus is finishing the work that God gave Him to do before His death on the cross.
• The entire Book of John is about all of these great works that Jesus is doing.
• You can read about all of them up unto the point of His death.
• Jesus says, “I’m doing the works my Father gave me to do. I’m doing the works. I’m doing the works.”
• All the way through the Book of John, He’s doing the works.
• Jesus says, “I’ve finished the works.” Jesus says, “It is finished.” He means the works are finished.
• He didn’t mean that His death on the cross was it and His soul wasn’t going to suffer. He didn’t say that.

[47] Hebrews 2:9 But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

• Let me ask you something. Does every man have to die? Yeah, they do. For the wages of sin is death.
• That’s why our physical bodies have to die. So, we all will taste a physical death.
• But look closely at verse 9 of Hebrews Chapter 2 right there.
• We see that Jesus SUFFERED death. But was this verse just talking about His body dying?
• No, it’s not. How do we know that? Because look at the last part of the verse.
• “That he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”

The death being talked about right there is the death in hell. His soul went to hell.

• My soul will never taste of death because Jesus did. My body will taste of death because I’m dying.
• My body won’t make it. Jesus tasted of death in hell for me so I don’t have to taste that.
• It’s not talking about a bodily death because we’re all going to die. Do you see what I mean?
• Being dead is your soul going to hell. My soul, who I am, will never die.

[48] John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

• Because I believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to save me, my soul will NEVER die. My body will die.
• My body will rest in the sepulchre just like King David’s until my body is resurrected at the rapture.
• Jesus Christ died on the cross, His soul went to hell, and His body was buried.
• His soul was raised from the dead. A dead soul is a soul in hell. His body was raised from the dead.
• A dead body is a body that is buried.

Let’s make this really clear right now. If the soul of Jesus didn’t go to hell, then where did His soul go?

• Most make up some place called Abraham’s bosom that supposedly exists in some compartment of hell.
• They’ll say that Jesus went to paradise or heaven or something else.
• They’ll say only the body of Jesus suffered and died on the cross.
• It was finished when He died on the cross. Jesus wasn’t finished.
• The Gospel is more than the death of Christ. We all die a bodily death. The body of Jesus died.

We need the blood of Jesus Christ to save us, but we need to believe the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

• He proved He is God, but we know the resurrection is His soul and His body.
• He proved that He is the Savior. The prophet Muhammad died, but he sure didn’t arise from the dead.
• Joseph Smith of the Mormons died, but he sure didn’t arise from the dead.
• He sure isn’t a god on another planet. He’s dead, and he’s in hell right now burning in agony.
• Why? Because he never put his trust on the Lord Jesus Christ as THE SAVIOR. There’s ONE GOD.
• There’s not many gods. And we sure can’t be God because we can’t arise from the lowest hell.

So, what the proof that Jesus Christ went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights?

• The Scriptures give all the proof. The other side has nothing to support their false claims.
• The Scriptures state it word for word. “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell.”

[49] Acts 2:31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

• The soul of Christ was not left in hell. What other proof do you need?
• We know that Jesus was dead. His soul was dead in hell but He didn’t stay dead.
• We went through the sign of the prophet Jonah. This proves Jesus went to hell.
• There’s tons and tons of other proof throughout the Bible that proves Jesus went to hell.

[50] Ephesians 4:8-10 Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

• He descended FIRST into the lower parts of the earth BEFORE he ascended into heaven.
• He was captive in hell, but He turned hell around into captivity because He defeated death and hell.
• He couldn’t defeat hell if He never went there due to sin. Death and hell couldn’t hold Jesus.
• He’s too powerful because He is God. Death and hell can never conquer Jesus Christ.
• And with that, we go all the way back to Acts Chapter 2 when Peter is preaching.

[51] Acts 2:23-24 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: 24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

• Death and hell could not contain Jesus Christ because He’s not a human like us. He’s not a created being.
• Hell captured Jesus Christ for 3 days and 3 nights, but now He captured death and hell. He has the keys.
• All of this makes sense with the words of the Bible and not some man-made doctrine.
• Do you know what else makes sense with the words of the Bible?
• Burnt offerings were offerings for sin to remind the people of their sin and the Lord saving them.
• They were all BURNT offerings. BURNT OFFERINGS. They were burned in the fire.
• That’s why they offered animals as burnt offerings. They were offerings for their sin.

[52] Isaiah 53:10-11 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. 11 He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.

• The soul of Jesus Christ is an offering for sin. That’s what it says in verse 10.
• In verse 11 of Isaiah Chapter 53, you’ll see that it says: “He shall see the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied. For he shall bear their iniquities.”

The Soul Of Jesus Went To Hell As A Burnt Offering

And guess what? His soul went to hell fire as a BURNT OFFERING.

• The phrase burnt offering is in the Bible 543 times in 190 verses.
• The phrase burnt offerings plural is in the Bible 86 times in 81 verses. Yeah, it’s important to understand.

[53] Leviticus 4:24-25 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat, and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD: it is a sin offering. 25 And the priest shall take of the blood of the sin offering with his finger, and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt offering, and shall pour out his blood at the bottom of the altar of burnt offering.

[54] Leviticus 4:26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar, as the fat of the sacrifice of peace offerings: and the priest shall make an atonement for him as concerning his sin, and it shall be forgiven him.

• Sin was forgiven through BURNT OFFERINGS. I didn’t make that up. It’s in the Bible everywhere.
• All of the burnt offerings are pointing to the Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is a place of burning.

[55] Hebrews 10:1-3 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

[56] Hebrews 10:4-6 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

• Those sin offerings didn’t take away sin. They were a reminder of their sins.
• God didn’t have any pleasure in those burnt offerings because those didn’t take away sin.
• Next in Hebrews Chapter 10 I want you to see exactly what this says today. Verse 7.

[57] Hebrews 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

• That’s Jesus Christ speaking. “LO, I COME TO DO THY WILL, O GOD.”
• Those burnt offerings couldn’t take away sin so JESUS CHRIST says, “FATHER, I COME TO DO THY WILL.”

[58] Hebrews 10:8-9 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; 9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

• He took away the burnt offerings for sin when He came and died on the cross and His soul went to hell.

[59] Hebrews 10:10-12 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

• Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for all your sins: past, present, and future. The soul of Jesus went to hell.
• Jesus is the PASSOVER LAMB. He is the lamb of God. He is the slain lamb in the Book of Revelation.
• The entire Bible teaches us that Jesus is the sacrifice for our sins, and He is the Passover lamb.

[60] Exodus 12:7-9 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. 8 And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. 9 Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.

• The Passover Lamb is roast with fire. What else do you need to see? Jesus went to hell when He died.
• If Jesus didn’t go to hell with all of our sins, then how was He the sacrifice for our sins?
• How was He the Passover Lamb? How was He the burnt offering?
• Animals don’t have souls so that’s why they couldn’t be a sacrifice for our sins.
• The soul of the animals didn’t go to hell for our sins and suffer.

The Eternal God Went To Hell For 3 Days And 3 Nights And Couldn’t Be Held There

Jesus is God, and this eternal God went to hell for 3 days and 3 nights.

• Those 3 days and 3 nights of Jesus being in hell paid for all sins of all time.
• I couldn’t go to hell and pay for your sins in 3 days and 3 nights, but Jesus Christ can and He did.
• Jesus didn’t go to paradise and enjoy Himself for those 3 days and 3 nights. That’s not suffering.
• That’s not sacrifice. His soul went to hell to PAY FOR OUR SINS.
• What’s the punishment when we die and have sin counted to our soul? We go to hell.
• If Jesus paid it all for us wouldn’t you think His soul must have went to hell?
• He is the offering for our sin. He took our place in hell. We belong in hell but Jesus saved us.

[61] Leviticus 1:9 But his inwards and his legs shall he wash in water: and the priest shall burn all on the altar, to be a burnt sacrifice, an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD.

• The Bible talks about the burnt offerings being a sweet savour unto the Lord about 43 times in the Bible.

[62] Ephesians 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

• Jesus died a physical death and a spiritual death. It wasn’t just a bodily death. How is that?
• He was dead. His body didn’t die and go to heaven. He descended when He died. He went to hell.

[63] Romans 10:7 Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)

• When the Bible says Jesus arose from the dead, it means that His soul and body arose from the dead.
• So I hope you see the truth today using the Holy Scriptures that God gave us to read, believe, and study.
• I hope you see how important it is to believe that Jesus Christ went to hell and suffered for us.
• If you believe He died and went to paradise, this changes the word of God and the result won’t be good.

[64] 1 Peter 2:21-23 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

[65] 1 Peter 2:24-25 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 25 For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

• Because Jesus died and suffered for us, we should be willing to suffer for Him.
• We’ll never suffer as much as He did for us because He’s saved us and we’ll never burn in hell.
• He took our place. Believing that Jesus went to hell for us should motivate us to do something for Him.
• “Oh, well, I’ve got other things to do. I don’t want to go out and tell people about Jesus.”
• “Well, I’m busy. I don’t want to read the Bible. I don’t want to go to church. I’m tired.”

Well, guess what? You sure aren’t burning in hell like Jesus did for you.

• Remember that next time you don’t feel like it. Don’t let your flesh get in the way of serving Jesus.
• He saved your soul from death and hell, and He doesn’t even make you work for it.
• He gives us the freedom to make our own choices. Thank God for all that He’s done for us.
