[2] The title of the sermon today is “TERROR OF THE LORD.”

God Is Love

• God is love. He is an amazing God.

[3] 1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

[4] 1 John 4:16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

• But listen, God is more than love. He is love, but that’s not all.
• God is a terrible God. He is a dreadful God. He is a God to be feared.
• God isn’t always on your side. When you sin, you can know that He’s against you.
• And you should be scared of God. You should be scared to death of God.
• For this sermon, I searched for terror, terrors, terrible, dread, and dreadful.

You’ll find 114 matches in 112 verses within the Bible and most of those are about God Almighty.

• You’ll see that God strikes terror and dread into people. He is a terrible and dreadful God.
• Now, what does that mean? Terrible? Is God a horrible God? He can be to you. It’s your choice.
• God can be your worst nightmare. He can throw you into hell forever. And people are there right now.
• They are burning forever. That should be your worst nightmare.
• And if you don’t believe me, you should listen, hear, and see the words from God today.
• God is a GREAT and a TERRIBLE God, and I want you to see what that means today.

[5] Leviticus 26:3-5 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; 4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit. 5 And your threshing shall reach unto the vintage, and the vintage shall reach unto the sowing time: and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

[6] Leviticus 26:6-8 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid: and I will rid evil beasts out of the land, neither shall the sword go through your land. 7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword. 8 And five of you shall chase an hundred, and an hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

[7] Leviticus 26:9-12 For I will have respect unto you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you. 10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new. 11 And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you. 12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

[8] Leviticus 26:13 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bondmen; and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

• So, you can have it great in this life “IF” you walk in God’s statutes or commands.
• You need to wake up one day and realize who God is and you need to make a decision.
• It’s nobody else. You need to say, “God, I want to do what you want.”
• “God, I want to follow you and walk in your statutes. God, I fear you and will do what you say.”
• And let’s say that you just aren’t ready to do that today. “I don’t feel like it today, God.”
• “I just don’t feel like doing what you want today, God. I’m in charge today and you’re not.”
• If that’s what you want to be like, then you need to understand the TERROR OF THE LORD.

Understand The Terror Of The Lord

[9] Leviticus 26:14-15 But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; 15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant:

[10] Leviticus 26:16 I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

• God says right there, “I will even appoint over you terror.”

[11] Leviticus 26:17-18 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you; and ye shall flee when none pursueth you. 18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken unto me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

[12] Leviticus 26:19-21 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass: 20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits. 21 And if ye walk contrary unto me, and will not hearken unto me; I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

• And look, people will get mad at me for preaching a sermon like this.
• Hey, look, I didn’t say it. I didn’t write these words. GOD ALMIGHTY wrote these words.
• So, go ahead and get offended at me. And again, you don’t understand the Lord God Almighty.

[13] Leviticus 26:22-24 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number; and your high ways shall be desolate. 23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me; 24 Then will I also walk contrary unto you, and will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

[14] Leviticus 26:25-26 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of my covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy. 26 And when I have broken the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver you your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

[15] Leviticus 26:27-29 And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; 28 Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins. 29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

• Do you think you’ll hear this Scripture in any church this morning? No, you won’t.
• But you’ll hear it here because I’m scared to not preach this today.

[16] Leviticus 26:30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcases upon the carcases of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

• Do you see that? “And my soul shall abhor you.” That’s greatly hate.
• If you won’t do what God asks, He’s going to be angry. He’s going to be mad. God hates sin.
• And guess what? We all sin. None of us are perfect. We’ve messed up. Admit it now.
• The children of Israel, who God is speaking to in Leviticus Chapter 26, messed up too.
• They did everything God warned them of in the Bible. They didn’t listen. We’ve done the same.

[17] Leviticus 26:40-41 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary unto me; 41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

[18] Leviticus 26:42-43 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. 43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

[19] Leviticus 26:44-45 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God. 45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

• We confess our iniquities today. We’re here in church today to tell God that we’re sorry.
• He has saved us, and He is our God. For He is the Lord. And I’m glad that He is our God today.
• I want to know my God and who He is so that’s why we don’t skip over any Scripture in the Bible.

The God Of The Old Testament Is The Same God Today

And, yes, this is the Old Testament. And this is the same God that is listening in right now.

• That’s right. Jesus Christ is right here with us and He’s listening. And He’s watching you right now.
• He’s watching me right now. And I’m scared to death of what He can do to you and to me.
• He’s the same God of the New Testament. And here’s the New Testament.

[20] Hebrews 10:31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

• You don’t want any fight with God. You have no chance against your Creator.
• And you might say, “Well, I’m under God’s grace. I’m living in the church age now.”
• “None of the Old Testament really matters any more. It’s not written to me or for me.”
• Well, if that were the case, God wouldn’t have written this in 2 Corinthians.

[21] 2 Corinthians 5:5-7 Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. 6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: 7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)

[22] 2 Corinthians 5:8-10 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. 9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

[23] 2 Corinthians 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.

• We’re in our fleshly body which “dwelleth no good thing.”
• Because of this, we can’t physically see Jesus Christ here right now.
• But we walk by faith and not by sight. That means I know He’s here right now
• How do I know? Because He said He would be. And when He says something, mark it down.
• God will judge our works in heaven. Notice I said, in heaven. If you’re saved, you’re going to heaven.
• But Christ will judge our works in our fleshly body. And that should scare you.
• Why? Look at that verse. “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men.”
• We persuade men and women to wake up and understand that God is a great and terrible God.

[24] Hebrews 12:21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)

• Moses didn’t just fear and quake when God was there.
• It was so terrible that he EXCEEDINGLY feared and quaked. This isn’t a joke. This is God.
• SO TERRIBLE was the sight. But I want to continue in Hebrews Chapter 12 there. Next verse.

[25] Hebrews 12:22-24 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, 23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect, 24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

[26] Hebrews 12:25-26 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: 26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.

• You need to see that first verse there at the beginning again. “See that ye refuse not him that speaketh.”
• If you do refuse God Almighty who speaks right there, you won’t escape. His voice shakes the earth.
• But not only the earth but heaven too. His voice will make you tremble.
• If you think loud thunder scares you and makes you jump, you have no idea what God’s voice will do.
• God fills the heavens and the earth. You won’t escape that.

This Is The New Testament

[27] Hebrews 12:27-29 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: 29 For our God is a consuming fire.

• Now, look, that is THE NEW TESTAMENT. So I don’t want to hear that trash about the Old Testament not being valid.
• Why do we serve God now? Why do we follow what He says?
• Because God has saved us (past tense) by His grace. We don’t deserve it. I don’t deserve it.
• “We may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear.”
• Reverence is respect and esteem due to fear. That’s called bowing down to God and giving in to Him.

[28] Matthew 21:37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son.

• Yeah, you can reject Jesus Christ all your life, but one day “You will reverence God The Father’s Son.”
• Whether in heaven or hell, you will bow down to the Son of God. Why? Because God said so.

[29] Philippians 2:9-11 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

• And why will you bow down? Because you’ll be so scared of our great and terrible God.
• “For our God is a consuming fire.” Jesus Christ is Lord. Bow down. You’re not Lord of all.

[30] Deuteronomy 7:21 Thou shalt not be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God is among you, a mighty God and terrible.

• Our mighty and terrible God is amongst us right now. Do you think I’m scared of anything else? No.
• But I need to do what He asks me to do, or He won’t be on my side in this life.

[31] Deuteronomy 8:14-15 Then thine heart be lifted up, and thou forget the LORD thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; 15 Who led thee through that great and terrible wilderness, wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no water; who brought thee forth water out of the rock of flint;

• God brought you up out of Egypt too because He saved you. He’s led you through a wilderness.

[32] Deuteronomy 8:16-17 Who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that he might humble thee, and that he might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end; 17 And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

• He’s fed you. He’s taken care of you. He’s blessed you in this life. Are you going to thank Him?
• Or, are you going to say, “I’m the one that’s done all of these great things?”

[33] Deuteronomy 8:18-19 But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. 19 And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God, and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them, I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish.

[34] Deuteronomy 8:20 As the nations which the LORD destroyeth before your face, so shall ye perish; because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the LORD your God.

• Why will you perish in this life? There’s the answer.
• Because ye would not be obedient unto the voice of the Lord your God.

[35] Deuteronomy 10:16-18 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. 17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: 18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

[36] Deuteronomy 10:19-21 Love ye therefore the stranger: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt. 20 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. 21 He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen.

• Hey, give up all the other religion and views and TV and news. Don’t let the world change you.
• Allow God to change you into what He wants. “Be no more stiffnecked.”
• Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God and Him shalt thou serve. To Him shalt thou cleave.
• Stick to God. God is your praise and He is your God. There’s nothing better to know than that.

Is God For You Or Against You?

Can you imagine standing at the bottom of a great valley and you hear something dreadful coming over the hill?

• And you’re not sure what to think. But you know that you’re scared because something great is coming.
• Is it for you, or is it against you? What is it? Whose coming over that hill?
• And you finally see. And it’s God Almighty. You fall on your face shaking.
• But He’s on your side. He comes up and says, “It’s okay. Fear not.” But what if He wasn’t?
• He is a great and a terrible God. You will shake and quake in terror when you see Him. That’s called great.
• But isn’t it great to know that He’s on your side now? Let’s keep it that way in this life too.

[37] Judges 13:6-7 Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, very terrible: but I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name: 7 But he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, neither eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite to God from the womb to the day of his death.

• That was Jesus Christ, the Son of God, that appeared to Samson’s mother that day.
• And notice what she says, “His countenance was like an angel of God, VERY TERRIBLE.”

[38] Judges 13:17-19 And Manoah said unto the angel of the LORD, What is thy name, that when thy sayings come to pass we may do thee honour? 18 And the angel of the LORD said unto him, Why askest thou thus after my name, seeing it is secret? 19 So Manoah took a kid with a meat offering, and offered it upon a rock unto the LORD: and the angel did wondrously; and Manoah and his wife looked on.

[39] Judges 13:20 For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground.

• When your eyes finally see God, you will fall on your face to the ground just like Samson’s parents.
• Just like Abraham, Moses, David, Ezekiel, Daniel, the children of Israel, and all the disciples.

[40] Genesis 17:3-4 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying, 4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.

[41] Leviticus 9:24 And there came a fire out from before the LORD, and consumed upon the altar the burnt offering and the fat: which when all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces.

[42] 1 Chronicles 21:16 And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of the LORD stand between the earth and the heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders of Israel, who were clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces.

[43] Ezekiel 1:28 As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake.

[44] Matthew 17:5-7 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. 6 And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. 7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

• Jesus Christ is YOUR SAVIOR. He says, “Arise and be not afraid.” Do you understand who Jesus is?
• He is God Almighty. When He says, “Arise and be not afraid,” it’s time to arise and be not afraid.
• It’s time to go do what He says.

[45] Nehemiah 1:5-6 And said, I beseech thee, O LORD God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that keepeth covenant and mercy for them that love him and observe his commandments: 6 Let thine ear now be attentive, and thine eyes open, that thou mayest hear the prayer of thy servant, which I pray before thee now, day and night, for the children of Israel thy servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against thee: both I and my father’s house have sinned.

[46] Nehemiah 1:7-8 We have dealt very corruptly against thee, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the judgments, which thou commandedst thy servant Moses. 8 Remember, I beseech thee, the word that thou commandedst thy servant Moses, saying, If ye transgress, I will scatter you abroad among the nations:

[47] Nehemiah 1:9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there.

• Now, are you going to be perfect and do everything God says? No, you can’t in the flesh.
• You’re going to mess up. That’s the whole point of the entire Bible.
• You need a Savior because you aren’t perfect. But God knows if you’re trying to do what He says.
• We need to do what Nehemiah did. He prayed to God. He said:
• “I beseech you or ask you with great urgency O Lord God of heaven, the great and terrible God, that gives mercy to those that love Him and keep His commandments.”

God Doesn’t Give Mercy To Those Who Do Whatever They Want

Notice that God gives mercy to those who love Him and keep His commandments.

• Nehemiah says, “I confess my sins. We have sinned against thee O Lord.”
• “We have dealt very corruptly against thee and have not kept thy commandments.”
• We’re sorry Lord. And God says, “If you turn to me now and keep my commandments and do them, I will bring you to me.”
• So, don’t you want to know that God isn’t mad at you? How do you know? Do what He says.
• Do your best to do what He says. When you mess up, go directly to God and say, “I’m sorry I messed up.”

[48] 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

• And that’s it. When you sin against God, you confess those sins and He will forgive you.
• It’s not a maybe. He says He’ll do it. But first, you must trust Jesus Christ as your Savior.
• Step 1 of any of this is to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Then, go do what God says.

[49] Nehemiah 4:14 And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

• Nehemiah tells the people. I love Nehemiah. He says, “Don’t be afraid of these people.”
• “Be afraid of the great and terrible Lord. Now, go fight for your brethren.”
• “Go fight for your sons, and your daughters, and your wives, and your houses.”
• What are you scared of? Don’t you have some people you need to fight for in your life?

It’s a spiritual battle and the great dragon, that old serpent, the devil, Satan? He’s winning.

• You need to take God with you to that battle and there is no contest.
• But you alone without God on your side? You’re not going to win.
• So, why are we not winning? Well, we need God by our side.
• And He’s not there if we aren’t doing what He wants.
• If we want to win, we better get to doing what God wants. If we love God, we’ll do what He says.

[50] Job 6:4 For the arrows of the Almighty are within me, the poison whereof drinketh up my spirit: the terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.

• Job was a man of God. He was a smart man. He says, “The terrors of God do set themselves in array against me.”
• Job knew the terror of the Lord.

[51] Job 13:11-12 Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you? 12 Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.

• Do you understand what God can do to you and your life? He is the potter over your life of clay.
• He can make your life whatever He wants. He can make you scared of everything. He can trouble you.
• Watch what Job says here through the Holy Spirit writing these words.
• This is the next verse in Job Chapter 13.

[52] Job 13:13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.

• I love that verse. Listen. Hold your peace. Let me alone that I may speak. Let come on me what will.

[53] Job 13:14-15 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand? 15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

• Most people want to ignore all of these words. Job put his life in God’s hands.
• He says, “God, do with me what you need to do.” Job trusts God.
• He says, “Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him.” That’s fear of God and trust at the same time.
• That’s what we need. You see? The Holy Ghost came upon Job right there. That’s the Spirit of God.

[54] Job 13:16-18 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. 17 Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears. 18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.

• When you speak the word of God, you should know that you will be justified.

[55] Job 13:19 Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.

• Job says, “If I don’t speak the word of God, the Holy Ghost will not be upon me.”
• We need more of the word of God in our lives. If you aren’t reading the Bible every day, you need it.
• You need to speaking the word of God and preaching it to others every day.
• Always turn the conversations to Jesus Christ. Help people get saved. Pray that people will be saved.
• That’s why we’re alive right now. We’re here to do God’s will and that is for people to be saved.
• And if we don’t want to do that, be ready for destruction from God.

[56] Job 31:23 For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

• You don’t want destruction from God. You should be scared of that. It is terrible. It is a terror.
• You will not be able to endure that destruction because it’s coming from HIS HIGHNESS.
• God is THE MOST HIGH. There is none other like Him.

[57] Job 37:21-24 And now men see not the bright light which is in the clouds: but the wind passeth, and cleanseth them. 22 Fair weather cometh out of the north: with God is terrible majesty. 23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice: he will not afflict. 24 Men do therefore fear him: he respecteth not any that are wise of heart.

• The Holy Spirit comes to cleanse you and protect you once you believe on God to save you.
• With God is terrible majesty. Do you see that? TERRIBLE MAJESTY.
• Touching the ALMIGHTY. We cannot find Him out. He is excellent in power and in judgement.
• He has plenty of justice. He doesn’t afflict you unfairly. That’s why you should fear Him.
• He doesn’t respect your person or your titles or your positions on earth. He made you and knows you.
• I hope you’ll begin to understand what the TERROR OF THE LORD now means.
• And we should know this. The Psalms are songs we’re supposed to know and sing.

Are You Hearing The Words Of These Songs?

[58] Psalm 47:1-3 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. 2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth. 3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.

• O clap your hands all ye people. Shout unto God. Why? Verse 2.
• For the Lord most high is terrible. Yes, that’s a great thing for His people.
• He strikes terror into all people. If you’re on His side, that’s a good thing.
• If you’re not, that’s a very terrible thing. Here’s another song we should know.

[59] Psalm 66:1-5 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: 2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious. 3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee. 4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah. 5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.

• If I said that God was a terrible God in any other church today, they would look at me like I was crazy.
• What does that tell me? They don’t read the Bible. The word of God has no place in them.

[60] John 8:37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

• You should make room for the word of God within you. You better get that word within you.
• You’ll need it for eternity. Learn it now and get ahead so you don’t mess up. Tremble before God.
• Act like you understand that the Lord is a terrible God. Be afraid enough to do what He says.

[61] Psalm 68:35 O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel is he that giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God.

• Does it every bother you that God would throw people you know into hell for everlasting torment?
• Have you ever thought, “God, how can you do this to people I know?”
• Well, that’s explained in Psalm Chapter 73. Listen to this today.

[62] Psalm 73:1-3 Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are of a clean heart. 2 But as for me, my feet were almost gone; my steps had well nigh slipped. 3 For I was envious at the foolish, when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.

• Have you ever wondered why you have trouble and others who do evil are doing good in this world?
• Read Psalm 73 and you’ll figure out why.

[63] Psalm 73:12-14 Behold, these are the ungodly, who prosper in the world; they increase in riches. 13 Verily I have cleansed my heart in vain, and washed my hands in innocency. 14 For all the day long have I been plagued, and chastened every morning.

• Punished every morning by God Almighty. When something is from God, take it and rejoice.
• Rejoice that God cares about you. He knows your name. He is the most HIGH and knows you.
• But the others, the wicked, have it easy here in this life.

[64] Psalm 73:15-17 If I say, I will speak thus; behold, I should offend against the generation of thy children. 16 When I thought to know this, it was too painful for me; 17 Until I went into the sanctuary of God; then understood I their end.

• The wicked will see God’s destruction. It’s painful for us to think about that.
• It’s painful to know they will be thrown into hell and burn forever.
• “Why won’t you listen? Why won’t you hear God’s words?” We can plead and plead with no result.
• It’s too painful to think about what happens to those people we know. We can’t understand.
• Verse 17 says I didn’t understand “UNTIL I went into the sanctuary of God.”
• “Then I understood their end.” Don’t question God. Understand He knows what He’s doing.
• One day we’ll understand when we go into the sanctuary of God. He is amazing and terrible.

[65] Psalm 73:18-20 Surely thou didst set them in slippery places: thou castedst them down into destruction. 19 How are they brought into desolation, as in a moment! they are utterly consumed with terrors. 20 As a dream when one awaketh; so, O Lord, when thou awakest, thou shalt despise their image.

[66] Psalm 73:21-25 Thus my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my reins. 22 So foolish was I, and ignorant: I was as a beast before thee. 23 Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. 24 Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.

• God hates those people who never believe what He says. You don’t want to be one of those people.
• You will be utterly consumed with terrors.
• You’ll awake one day like you’ve been dreaming and it will be bad. God will be your worse nightmare.
• And yes that should grieve you in your flesh. It should hurt to know someone you love will go to hell.
• But when we get grieved for that verse 22 says, “So foolish was I and ignorant. I was as a beast before thee.”
• Why is that? Because God knows what He’s doing. But, are you going to do your job?
• God gave you the most important job in existence.
• It’s your job to go tell the people you love how to be saved.

[67] Psalm 73:26-28 My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. 27 For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee. 28 But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

• Don’t go a whoring from God. God loves you and wants you with Him. Don’t go whoring after the world.
• Draw near to God. Put your trust all day every day in the Lord God Almighty. It’s time to turn to God.

Turn And Cry Unto The Lord

[68] Psalm 88:13-15 But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee. 14 LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me? 15 I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.

• If you don’t want to do what God wants you to do, He won’t hear your prayers.
• And you should have some pretty important prayers.
• “God, please save my husband. God, please save my wife. God, please save my son.”
• “God, please save my daughter. God, please save my dad. God, please save my mom.”
• “God, please save my grandfather, my grandmother, my best friend, my manager, my neighbor.”
• “God, please save that stranger that was so nice and kind to me.”

[69] Psalm 88:16-18 Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off. 17 They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together. 18 Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

• If you want God to answer your prayers to save people, you better be afraid of Him.
• You better understand how terrible He can be. You better understand that He expects you to do what He asks.

[70] Psalm 99:1-3 The LORD reigneth; let the people tremble: he sitteth between the cherubims; let the earth be moved. 2 The LORD is great in Zion; and he is high above all the people. 3 Let them praise thy great and terrible name; for it is holy.

• Understand today that God is a loving God but there’s more to God than love.
• Love doesn’t mean getting whatever you want. “God, I need this because I want it.”
• “If you don’t give it me God, you don’t love me.”
• “God, if you don’t let me do whatever I want, you don’t love me.”
• Why don’t you try saying that to a GOD who makes you shake, quake, and tremble?
• You won’t say it. You wouldn’t be able to speak. That’s not the definition of love.
• God is a good God to all people. That means He is fair. He gave the people in hell many chances.
• But they wouldn’t listen. He is a perfect God. Perfect in all His ways.

[71] Psalm 145:1-4 I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. 2 Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. 3 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. 4 One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts.

[72] Psalm 145:5-7 I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. 6 And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. 7 They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness.

[73] Psalm 145:8-9 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.

• Don’t you want to be on the good side of our great and terrible God?
• I want to leave you today with one last set of Scripture.
• I want you to think about the people you know that need to be saved today.
• Maybe you’ll give them a call today, plead with them, and talk to them after you hear this.
• And understand, I didn’t write this. God wrote this. This is a warning to all those who won’t believe.

[74] Ezekiel 26:19 For thus saith the Lord GOD; When I shall make thee a desolate city, like the cities that are not inhabited; when I shall bring up the deep upon thee, and great waters shall cover thee;

• The people who won’t believe will be covered in the great deep like the deeps of the ocean.
• Imagine sinking to the dark depths of the ocean floor in the darkness where you’ll never see again.

[75] Ezekiel 26:20-21 When I shall bring thee down with them that descend into the pit, with the people of old time, and shall set thee in the low parts of the earth, in places desolate of old, with them that go down to the pit, that thou be not inhabited; and I shall set glory in the land of the living; 21 I will make thee a terror, and thou shalt be no more: though thou be sought for, yet shalt thou never be found again, saith the Lord GOD.

• The unsaved will be sought for YET shalt thou never be found again saith the Lord God.
• You better talk to those people if you love them. Yet shalt thou never be found again saith the Lord God.
• Praise God because He knows what He’s doing. He is a great and terrible God.
• I hope you now understand the terror of the Lord a little better.
