Verse By Verse Bible Study Through Proverbs 18

  • Let’s continue our verse by verse study through the Book of Proverbs.
  • Let’s start there in verse 1 of Proverbs Chapter 18.

[3] Proverbs 18:1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

  • If you desire wisdom, you will seek it with all that you have. You will read God’s words.
  • You will study His words with the best effort that you can give.
  • When you do that, you will separate yourself from others who are in this world.
  • They won’t want anything to do with you because you’re boring to them.
  • Most people don’t want to be around someone who studies the word of God.
  • God separates His sanctified people from the rest of the world.

[4] Exodus 33:12-13 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

[5] Exodus 33:14-16 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

  • Moses says to God: “So shall we be SEPARATED, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.”

[6] Exodus 33:17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

  • God says, “I will do this thing. For thou hast found GRACE in my sight. And I know thee by name.”
  • God divides us from the rest of the world by His grace. We are saved by grace through faith.
  • We become His children, separated from this world. We seek and intermeddle with all wisdom.

[7] Romans 1:1 Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God,

[8] 2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

  • Separated unto the gospel of God. BE YE SEPARATE. We do not join in with the lies of this world.
  • We do not become worldly. We do not join in with the trends of this world.
  • For example, we don’t allow our children to play video games all day long.
  • We don’t send our children to public schools. We don’t send our babies to day care.
  • Our wives are keepers at home. We don’t have women pastors. We work hard and provide for our family.
  • The world doesn’t do these things. They don’t care what God says.
  • We do, and we will separate ourselves unto God. And we don’t care what the world thinks of us.
  • We already know that the world will hate us because Jesus tells us this.

[9] Jude 18-19 How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts. 19 These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.

  • You must be very careful because there are many false churches out there who separate themselves.
  • They have NOT the Spirit. But they will act as if they do. There are many false preachers like that too.
  • They will confess to follow God, but they actually don’t want anything to do with Him.
  • They want to do what they want. They want to follow their own ways. They want to be God.
  • So be very careful to not separate yourself to a man, woman, church, or some organization.
  • Separate yourself to God and Him alone. Seek His words and separate yourself to His words.

[10] Proverbs 18:2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

  • Fools only want to discover their own heart. They want to follow their own heart and their own ways.
  • They believe their ways are the best ways.
  • For example, many people today believe its best to leave their children on their own.
  • The husband and wife will go to work and send their children out on their own. That’s what they do.
  • They believe this is the best way so they can have a bigger house and more expensive cars.
  • Much of the money they make goes to the house and the cars.

Now think about that for a second. They are investing their money in houses and cars which do not breathe.

  • The wife could stop working and this would be an investment in their very own children.
  • The wife could stay at home, be a keeper at home, and teach the children the right ways.
  • This is God’s design and His plan for women. Let’s put these 2 ways up against each other.
  • Your children are alive and are great blessings from God.

Invest In Life And Not In Dead Things

Put your children in this hand. Put a house and cars in this hand. Which one will you invest in?

  • Which one will you put more effort into?
  • Fools are choosing the house and cars which will be destroyed. The children can be saved, though.
  • Fools want their own desires. It’s easy for your flesh to want a house and cars over your living children.
  • But that’s just stupid. Why choose things that aren’t alive over living things with souls?

[11] Proverbs 18:3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

  • When the wicked come, what do they bring? They bring evil with them. They bring sin with them.
  • When the wicked come, CONTEMPT or HATE for that which is good. When you hate good, this is pure evil.
  • Jesus was hated by this world, and He is good. Killing Jesus Christ was pure evil. This is wickedness.
  • If you hate to hear the name of Jesus Christ, you’ve got HUGE problems. You are pure evil.
  • If you say, “We don’t want to talk about Jesus Christ” then you are pure evil.
  • With that evil, you will find nothing good. You will find ignominy and reproach.
  • Ignominy is shame and reproach. This world wants to call people like me evil, but who is doing the evil?

They want to call me evil for loving good. They want to hate me for loving Jesus Christ. I love Jesus Christ.

  • I am not perfect, but I want to do that which is good and right. And they hate me for it.
  • I want to love that which is good. I want to cleave to that which is good. They want me to cleave to evil.
  • They want me to follow their evil ways. But I don’t want to. Their ways are not better.
  • Their ways aren’t even close to God’s ways. Since we won’t follow their ways, they call us names.
  • They think we are the ones to be shamed. But God says that SHAME will come to them.

[12] Proverbs 22:10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall go out; yea, strife and reproach shall cease.

  • I will cast out the scorner who hates God. I will separate myself from them. If you hate God, I hate you.
  • If you hate Jesus Christ, I hate you. This is right. They hated God first. It wasn’t me. It was them.
  • It was their action first. They hated God and then I hated them. I cast them out. Don’t come near me.
  • When we do this, contention shall go out. Contention, strife, and reproach shall cease.

For example, in this church, anyone who believes in a works based salvation will be cast out.

  • Cain would be cast out of this church. Anyone who has gone in the way of Cain will be cast out.
  • We believe and know 100% for sure that we are saved by God’s grace through faith.
  • No one will stay here that believes you must be baptized in water to be saved.
  • No one will stay here that believes you must repent of all your sin to be saved.
  • They aren’t welcome here, and they won’t teach that trash to anyone here.
  • When they teach that trash, it causes contentions, strife, reproach, shame, and disgrace. They are wicked.

[13] Proverbs 29:16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.

  • In our country today, the wicked are being multiplied. We are outnumbered.
  • When this happens, transgression increaseth. What is transgression? It is sin. It’s going against God.
  • In this country, we now have much more people going against God than with God.
  • We have people who think it’s okay to murder babies through abortion because of their sin.
  • Because they fornicated with whoever they want and whenever they want, they want to murder babies.
  • Because of their horrible sin of fornication, they want to commit the sin of murder.

And then they want to hide behind some stupid right that they call women’s rights.

  • They say: “We should have the right to murder the children we made because it’s my body.”
  • EVIL and WICKED people. They are multiplying. Sin is increasing. But don’t worry.
  • The righteous shall see their fall. Now, do we want them to fall? Yes, we do if they’re wicked.

God will cast all wickedness into hell and that will be one of the best days in existence.

  • Why is that? Because all people who hate God will be gone. We don’t want them around.
  • Why is that? Because horrible things happen when they are around.
  • When the wicked cometh, horrible things come. We don’t want that. We want good things.

[14] Proverbs 18:4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

  • Your words are important. God tells us this over and over and over again in the Bible.
  • Your words are as DEEP WATERS. If wisdom comes out of your mouth, you are only helping people.
  • Don’t you want to be like that? Only have wisdom coming out of here and nothing else.

[15] Proverbs 20:5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water; but a man of understanding will draw it out.

  • Think about what you’re speaking all throughout the day. Choose to speak wisdom.
  • Don’t choose to speak the things of this world. Draw out the waters of understanding. Use those words.

[16] Matthew 12:34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.

  • Have a good heart that is rooted in the word of God. You are writing His words upon your heart.
  • Then draw out those words. Don’t speak evil words.

[17] John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

[18] John 7:38 He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

  • Good things should be building up in here. Good things should be coming out of your mouth.
  • You should feel peace, love, and joy with the things that are coming out of your mouth.
  • When you speak God’s words, which are truth, you don’t have anything to worry about AT ALL.

[19] Colossians 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

  • Always speak with grace, seasoned with salt. Have His words in your heart ready to be spoken.
  • Let’s continue in verse 5 of Proverbs Chapter 18.

[20] Proverbs 18:5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

  • When you accept the person of the wicked, you are doing a great evil.
  • What are you doing? The Bible tells you right there. You are overthrowing the righteous in judgement.
  • We are to judge all things RIGHTLY and according to God’s words. For example, a sodomite is evil.
  • I will not accept a sodomite. God commands me to do this. This is coming from Him. He is right.

Do You Accept Sodomites Because They Are “Loving?”

When a so-called “Christian” accepts sodomites and believes they are good, they overthrow righteous judgement.

  • They will call me evil and wicked, but they are actually calling God Almighty evil and wicked.
  • They are then teaching others that they are right over the word of God.
  • They think they know better than Jesus Christ, but they call themselves followers of Jesus Christ.
  • For example, I don’t respect a government leader that is a sodomite just because they are a “leader.”

[21] Deuteronomy 1:16-17 And I charged your judges at that time, saying, Hear the causes between your brethren, and judge righteously between every man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. 17 Ye shall not respect persons in judgment; but ye shall hear the small as well as the great; ye shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring it unto me, and I will hear it.

  • We do not respect persons in judgement. A sodomite is wicked. END OF DEBATE.
  • “But he’s the secretary of transportation for the United States!!! He’s a nice man.”
  • Hey, guess what? No he isn’t. He’s a sodomite. If this country followed God’s laws, he wouldn’t be there.
  • He’s not a leader. He’s an idiot. I don’t respect his wicked person at all. ZERO RESPECT.
  • He hates God. He hates Jesus Christ. If he didn’t hate Jesus Christ, he would follow His commandments.

[22] 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

[23] Leviticus 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.

  • It is abomination or greatly hated by God for a man to do this.
  • Love is following God’s commandments. God didn’t change that one right there.
  • Jesus says, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”
  • You can’t profess to love Jesus Christ and be a sodomite. Understand that.
  • When you teach a different view to others, you are overthrowing the word of God. You are wicked.

[24] Leviticus 20:13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.

  • This is God’s law. If you don’t love it, then you hate God. It’s that simple. God’s law is active.
  • That law right there is active and God is watching. Our government won’t follow God’s laws.
  • Always side with God and His laws. You will be doing right.
  • If you decide something else is better, you are wrong. You are not wise at all. You’re foolish.

[25] Proverbs 18:6-7 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes. 7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

  • When you speak words against God’s words, you are entering into contention.
  • Some people will blame preachers of God’s truth for causing the contention.
  • You can argue about anything. But who is right? GOD IS RIGHT.
  • When you go against Him, you are the one causing contention or strife or struggle.
  • If all the leaders obeyed the higher powers, they would all obey God because He is the highest of all.
  • This is obvious. He lives up there in the heavens, and we live down here on the earth.
  • He is eternal. We came from the dirt and to the dirt we shall return.

When we speak against God, our mouth is calling for strokes or striking against God. We’re fighting God.

  • Bad move. “A fool’s mouth is his destruction.” Your mouth will be destroyed.
  • If you can’t agree with God, just be quiet. If not, your lips will be the snare of your soul.
  • Listen, do not speak against God.
  • For example, if you think women should be pastors, you should just be quiet.
  • When you think women should be pastors, you are a fool because you speak against God.
  • You are striking at God, and you are a fool with a mouth that will be destroyed. God says so.

[26] Proverbs 18:8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

  • I’ve known talebearers throughout my life. They love to tell stories that are all miraculous.
  • They love to get reactions from people. Every story they have is absolutely amazing.
  • Something unbelievable always happens in their stories. There’s always drama in their life.
  • They always add things to stories that didn’t happen. But it becomes truth to them.
  • They have twisted the truth so much in their life that they no longer know the truth.
  • You need to get away from people like this and stay away from those people. TALEBEARERS.
  • A TALE is not the truth. It’s something that is made up to make a better story.

The Words Of A Talebearer Are As Wounds

God says that the words of a talebearer are as wounds. They go down into the innermost pasts of the belly.

  • Hey, I don’t want those wounds. I don’t want to be around a talebearer.
  • I’m glad the tale bearers are gone. I don’t want to hear the lies any more. I want to hear truth.
  • When a talebearer leaves, it’s to the good of everyone around.

[27] Proverbs 26:20-22 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. 21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. 22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

  • A talebearer or a liar needs wood to continue the fire. Don’t give them the wood. Let the fire go out.
  • For example, I had a man tell me that people were walking upstairs in my house when I wasn’t there.
  • I didn’t give him any wood to put on that fire. He didn’t like it. He tells me again, “I hear them up there.”
  • “They are walking around upstairs.” So, I tell him to go up there and look. Nothing was there.
  • He tries again. “I hear them again up there. They are walking around. Someone is there.”
  • No wood to add to the fire. No one was there. But in a talebearer’s mind, it’s the truth.

“So where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.” Now there is peace around because the tales are gone.

  • A contentious man loves drama and strife. He loves to kindle it and cause problems for everyone.
  • I know what it feels like to have wounds from a talebearer.
  • When you don’t believe their TALES, they don’t like it at all.
  • They want someone to believe all their stories. And when you do, you get wounds. Don’t fall for this.

God teaches us the truth within the Bible, and you have to be wise and recognize these people.

  • I wasn’t wise enough to recognize the talebearer so I received wounds.
  • But I learned a great lesson and this was already in the Bible. This is why we need God’s words.
  • We gain knowledge and understanding from His words.

[28] Leviticus 19:16 Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD.

[29] Psalm 52:2 Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp rasor, working deceitfully.

[30] Psalm 64:3-4 Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words: 4 That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not.

  • You don’t want to be around people who have tongues like swords. They run their mouth constantly.
  • They shoot at you in secret. Their tongues are like sharp razors. But don’t worry. God is watching.
  • And then look at the next verse in Proverbs Chapter 18.

[31] Proverbs 18:9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

  • So, right after we hear about talebearers, we hear about a slothful man.
  • A slothful man is brother to a great waster. A talebearer will be slothful. I’ve seen it with my own eyes.
  • Why is a talebearer slothful? Because they’re always talking and telling all of their lies.
  • They like to take a story and twist into their own so-called “truth.” That person is SLOTHFUL as well.
  • Recognize the talebearers and you’ll see the slothfulness in them too. Work is too difficult.
  • But running their mouth and telling lies is very easy for them.
  • They would rather stand there and tell TALES for 3 hours than work.

They say things like this: “We’ve been busting our butts all day long working hard.”

  • Last time I checked, working 1 PM to 5 PM is NOT all day long. A day is about 12 hours in length.
  • Then it turns to night. You get about 12 hours of day light in a day. And 12 hours of darkness in a night.
  • If you work ALL DAY LONG, this would be 12 hours.
  • A talebearer probably hasn’t worked a 12 hour day EVER. But they’ll tell you they work 12 hour days.
  • And this would be yet another TALE from a TALEBEARER who is a sloth and a great waster.

For example, ask a talebearer how hard they’ve worked in their life and they will tell you.

  • They have worked harder than ANYONE in their entire life. That’s what they actually think.
  • But then ask them what they have to show for all that work. Where’s the result of all that work?
  • There’s nothing there, which shows you they are a talebearer. They are slothful and a waster.
  • Anything that they actually made from the work is gone. Where is it? What did you spend your wages on?
  • There’s nothing there. SLOTHFUL, WASTER, TALEBEARER.

[32] Matthew 7:20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

  • What have you produced in your life? This is your fruit. Where is it?
  • What did you earn from the work you did? A talebearer tells stories filled with lies all day long.
  • What kind of fruit do you get from doing that? You don’t get anything good from that. NOTHING.
  • Here’s what you get from slothfulness.

[33] Proverbs 10:4 He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

[34] Proverbs 23:20-21 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

  • Slothful would be called laying in a bed when you aren’t sleeping or sick.
  • Slothful would be called sleeping much of the day. The day is when day light is out. It’s time to get up.
  • Slothful people will get large. They will get large bellies on them. They are riotous eaters of flesh.
  • They are gluttons that shall come to poverty. “Drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.”

Slothful People Have Never Seen People Work So Hard

Slothful people will say things like this to someone who always works hard:

  • “I’ve never seen someone work so hard in my life. Wow.” What have you been doing all your life SLOTH?
  • It’s time to work. If you find yourself always drowsy, expect to be clothed with rags.
  • This is what God says right there and it is the truth. If you’re a sloth, don’t come here to this church.
  • I’ve had enough of sloths already. We don’t have sloths here anymore. We have hard working people.
  • How do you recognize a sloth? If this describes you, then you better wake up and get moving.

[35] Proverbs 24:30-34 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down. 32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. 33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

  • Just take a look at their home. Get on Google maps and look at the satellite view.
  • Do you see trash scattered all over the yard? Do you see a junkyard? Is the house overgrown?
  • Do they take care of their home? What about the children? Do they care about them at all?
  • “THEN I SAW, AND CONSIDERED IT WELL: I LOOKED UPON IT, AND RECEIVED INSTRUCTION.”
  • This is how you know a sloth because God says so. He tells you the truth.
  • Poverty comes to the sloth, to the talebearer, and to the great waster.

[36] 1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.

  • You’ll know a sloth because he won’t take care of his own family. He won’t go out and work on his own.
  • He’ll take a month off to tell TALES and all the while he doesn’t provide for his own family.
  • He’s worse than an infidel. We will stay away from these people unless they get it corrected.
  • God puts us through trials, and we learn from those trials and then we know what the Bible meant.
  • Let’s keep going in Proverbs Chapter 18.

[37] Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

  • The talebearers and sloths are not righteous. They don’t run to the Lord.
  • They run to a false god they’ve made up in their mind. But to us, the name of the Lord is a strong tower.
  • The righteous are those who believe on “THE JESUS CHRIST.”
  • He gives us His righteousness that is not our own. WE RUN TO HIS NAME. We are safe in His name.

[38] Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

  • The one true God is that same God right there in Genesis Chapter 17. He says, “I am the Almighty God.”
  • “Walk before me, and be thou perfect.” Let’s just do what God says. Don’t worry about anything else.
  • Don’t allow someone to take you off the path. Be safe in God’s name and in His ways.
  • We run to His ways and do our best each day to do what He says to do. Be safe that way.

[39] Proverbs 18:11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

  • The rich man thinks his wealth is his protection. But think about that. Is your wealth ALIVE.
  • Is your wealth watching over you? Is your wealth protecting you from evil and wicked people?
  • Money is dumb. It has no intelligence. Why would you trust in your wealth and money?
  • Putting your trust in money is the same as putting your trust in a rock, house, or a car.
  • These people think very highly of themselves because of their money. They are conceited.
  • The rich man’s wealth is like a high wall in his own conceit. That money won’t save you.

Have You Made Money Your Hope?

[40] Job 31:24 If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

[41] Job 31:28 This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

  • When you make money or riches your confidence, you have DENIED the God that is above.
  • You don’t want to do that. Make God your protection by putting your trust in Him.

[42] Psalm 49:6-8 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; 7 None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: 8 (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)

  • God does take money to save souls. You cannot buy everlasting life. You cannot bribe God with anything.
  • He is not a corrupt judge. He doesn’t take bribes. I am so glad that our God is who He is.
  • Theirs is no one or anything close to the Almighty God of all creation. He is amazing. Trust Him.

[43] Psalm 52:5-7 God shall likewise destroy thee for ever, he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of thy dwelling place, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah. 6 The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him: 7 Lo, this is the man that made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.

  • For example, I laugh at Joyce Meyer. She knows nothing of the one true God. She trusts in her riches.
  • She makes up things about God. She acts as if she knows Him well but clearly knows nothing.
  • The righteous shall laugh at her. She doesn’t make God her strength.
  • She strengthens herself in her wickedness. But, in reality, she has no true riches and no strength at all.
  • She denies God by denying His words and rejecting His words. That’s laughable. She is a joke.

[44] Psalm 62:10-11 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. 11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

  • The majority of people in this world today believes that MONEY equals POWER.
  • Do you who owns POWER? Power belongeth unto God.
  • If you think money equals power, you’re going to be in for a HUGE SURPRISE one day.
  • GOD IS POWER.

[45] Ecclesiastes 7:12 For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it.

  • Money can help defend you from some things but not from God. And not from many other things.
  • But wisdom gives LIFE to them that have it. True wisdom is far greater than money.
  • And that’s why we’re all here right now, I hope, to gain wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.

[46] Luke 12:20-21 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

  • Be rich towards God. Put your trust in God and not in riches.
  • In the night that your soul is required for payment to God, whose will all your riches be now?
  • When death comes for you, what good are all those riches? They are nothing. Remember that.
  • Be rich in God Almighty. He is stored up in here within your heart and your soul. Be rich in Him.

[47] Proverbs 18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

  • Haughty is pride. Pride is raising yourself to a level you don’t belong. We are from the dirt.
  • Why raise yourself up to a higher level? Money, power, and other things lead to pride.
  • Pride comes before destruction. If you want destruction, then have pride.
  • If you want honor from God, have humility.

[48] Luke 14:11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

[49] 1 Peter 5:5 Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

  • Be clothed with humility.

[50] Proverbs 29:23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.

  • We should always be humble and never proud. We don’t lift ourselves up.
  • We don’t show off all of the things we have. We don’t act as if we’re better than other people.

[51] Proverbs 18:13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

  • Don’t judge a matter before you hear and understand the whole matter.
  • If you begin to tell someone something and they start giving you their opinion before hearing the whole matter, THIS IS FOLLY AND SHAME.

Understand What You’re Doing Before You Do It

[52] Daniel 6:9 Wherefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

  • King Darius signed a law before he actually realized what he was doing. He was tricked into it.
  • Make sure you fully look at something before doing things like this.

[53] Daniel 6:14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.

  • He knew he made a mistake. We must hear and know the entire matter before judging the situation.

[54] John 7:51 Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?

  • Don’t judge someone or something before you hear someone out and know what he doeth.

[55] Proverbs 18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

  • If you’ve been around someone with a wounded spirit, it’s very difficult to bear or to take.
  • This is why we should always keep the good Spirit that God has given us and allow the Spirit to lead.
  • If you want to make it through infirmities, then you need God’s Spirit with you. He takes on anything.

[56] Romans 5:1-5 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. 3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope: 5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

  • Even in infirmities, sickness, tough times, and tribulation, WE KNOW that these times work our patience.
  • And then patience gives us experience. And experience gives us hope. And hope makes us not ashamed.
  • Why? Because the love of God is SHED ABROAD in our hearts by the Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit.
  • God’s Spirit is what you need. He will sustain our infirmities. With God’s Spirit, we cannot be broken.

[57] Proverbs 18:15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

  • Prudent means cautious, careful, and wise. We are prudent because we want God’s knowledge.
  • We don’t act on things before going to God and asking for His guidance and direction.
  • The ear of the wise seeks after knowledge. Are you constantly wanting to hear God’s words?
  • If not, what’s wrong? SEEK HIS WORDS, AND HE WILL SHOW YOU.

[58] Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

  • Mary didn’t care about other things. She just wanted to hear the words of Jesus Christ.
  • This is what you should want to hear. Listen to the actual words of Jesus.
  • This doesn’t mean to go out any buy the books written by men and women who call themselves “Christians.”
  • They want you to listen to their words. They don’t want you to listen to the words of Jesus Christ.
  • If they did, they wouldn’t be preaching a false gospel. They wouldn’t preach a works based salvation.

[59] Proverbs 18:16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

  • Giving gifts to others can help you. People will make room for you if you bring them gifts.

[60] Proverbs 17:8 A gift is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.

[61] Proverbs 19:6 Many will intreat the favour of the prince: and every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.

[62] Proverbs 21:14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.

  • Gifts will bring you before great men. The Bible says so.
  • God gives the greatest gift of all, and it’s our job to make sure people know about this great gift.
  • Bring the gift of God to people. This gift of God is everlasting life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

[63] Proverbs 18:17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

  • Many people have to get their words in first because this makes them seem just. Right?
  • For example, if there’s a dispute between two people in the law, the first usually gets the advantage.
  • Whoever comes first, seems just. But then the neighbor comes and searches him for the truth.

[64] Acts 24:1-3 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul. 2 And when he was called forth, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, Seeing that by thee we enjoy great quietness, and that very worthy deeds are done unto this nation by thy providence, 3 We accept it always, and in all places, most noble Felix, with all thankfulness.

[65] Acts 24:4-6 Notwithstanding, that I be not further tedious unto thee, I pray thee that thou wouldest hear us of thy clemency a few words. 5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes: 6 Who also hath gone about to profane the temple: whom we took, and would have judged according to our law.

  • We see this man, Tertullus, coming first and seeming just because he got there first.
  • He accuses Paul of causing all the problems. He calls him a pestilent fellow or one that causes harm.
  • Was Paul causing harm? No, he was doing his best to preach the Gospel and teach the truth.
  • Just because Tertullus accuses Paul FIRST, this does not mean it’s true. Remember that in your life.
  • Some people will accuse others, but make sure you hear the whole matter first.

[66] Proverbs 18:18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

  • Casting lots would decide matters and everyone sees God as choosing the result when casting lots.
  • When He chooses, contentions cease because a decision has been made. It’s over.

[67] Joshua 14:2 By lot was their inheritance, as the LORD commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes, and for the half tribe.

  • Lots were cast and decisions were made. The contentions cease.

[68] Proverbs 18:19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

  • If you offend a brother by teaching the word of God, the brother in Christ should get over it.
  • This is not actually called OFFENDING your brother because it’s not an offense.
  • If you do something really wrong to your brother or OFFEND HIM, he is harder to be won.
  • It’s easier to battle a strong city and take it than win your brother over.

Don’t Offend People By Doing Wrong

Their contentions are like the bars of a castle. It’s very difficult to win people to Jesus Christ.

  • Many so-called “Christians” have offended people. So-called “Christians” molest children.
  • Catholic priests do this all the time. Baptist pastors have done this again and again.
  • And then when a true Christian comes along, the offended person will not listen.
  • They have their defenses up and their bars all around them. You can’t get through to them with the truth.

[69] 2 Samuel 13:22 And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

[70] 2 Samuel 13:28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

  • Amnon offended his brother Absalom by forcing his sister Tamar. Absalom hated Amnon.
  • And he wanted Amnon dead. Amnon greatly offended his brother. That was a true offense.
  • They were NOT going to be friends ever again. NOT A CHANCE.

[71] Proverbs 18:20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

  • A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth. This can be good or bad.
  • “With the increase of his lips shall he be filled.” This goes both ways good and bad.
  • If bad comes out of your mouth, BAD will come to you.
  • If good comes out of your mouth, good will come to you. You will be filled with the increase of your lips.
  • So, do you want to be filled with bad things or good things? Speak bad and get bad.
  • Speak good and get good.

[72] Proverbs 12:13-14 The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble. 14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.

  • We always strive to speak good things by staying in the word of God constantly.

[73] Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

  • It’s hard to imagine but many people out there today love darkness and death.
  • They are infatuated with death. They hate God. They hate good things. They love evil and wickedness.
  • They speak evil things constantly. Death is in the power of the tongue.
  • If you love death, you’ll get death. If you love life, you’ll speak life with the power of your tongue.
  • You’ll tell people about Jesus Christ. You will eat of that fruit, which is the good fruit.

[74] Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

[75] Matthew 12:35-37 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

  • Remember, your words are very important. Words of death will get you death.
  • False preachers will get death and hell. Words of life will get you life.

[76] Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

  • Finding a wife is a good thing. One of the best days of my life was the day I was married to my wife.
  • I will always remember that day. That day brings great happiness and joy. Amazing day.
  • When you find a wife, you obtain favor of the Lord. The Bible says this.
  • Evil people will tell you that you shouldn’t get married. God says the opposite. Who do you trust?
  • Find a good woman who loves Jesus Christ and marry her. You found a good thing.

[77] Proverbs 5:18-20 Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. 19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. 20 And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

  • Be satisfied with your wife. She is a good thing.

A Virtuous Wife Is A Good Thing

[78] Proverbs 12:4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

[79] Proverbs 19:14 House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.

[80] Proverbs 31:10-12 Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. 11 The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. 12 She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

[81] Ecclesiastes 9:9 Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest all the days of the life of thy vanity, which he hath given thee under the sun, all the days of thy vanity: for that is thy portion in this life, and in thy labour which thou takest under the sun.

  • These are commandments from God. Find you a wife who loves the Lord Jesus Christ. This is a good thing.
  • Be satisfied with her. She will be a crown to you. Her price is far above rubies.
  • You will be able to safely trust in her. She will do you good and not evil.
  • Live joyfully with the wife whom thou lovest ALL THE DAYS of your life. Never give her up.
  • Never put her away. She is a treasure to you.

[82] Proverbs 18:23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

  • When somebody wants something, they answer differently based on whether they are poor or rich.
  • A poor man will be nicer because he needs something.
  • The rich man will answer roughly because he doesn’t need it so much.

[83] Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  • If you want friends, you must show yourself friendly.
  • As an example, if you act angry towards everyone, you won’t have friends.
  • If you act like you don’t want to be around them, you won’t have friends.
  • You want friends that love Jesus Christ. All you have to do for those friends is follow Jesus.
  • Obey His commandments, and you will always have love for these friends.

[84] 1 Samuel 30:26 And when David came to Ziklag, he sent of the spoil unto the elders of Judah, even to his friends, saying, Behold a present for you of the spoil of the enemies of the LORD;

[85] 2 Samuel 9:1 And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

[86] 1 Chronicles 12:38-39 All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a perfect heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel: and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king. 39 And there they were with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.

  • One of the things we do for friends is show them kindness, and we make food and drink for them.
  • This is why we gather together and provide food and drink to our friends. Right? We all do it.
  • We are showing ourselves friendly to our friends.
  • When we all love Jesus Christ, we stick closer than a brother.
  • I consider you all closer than a brother because we have this same love for Jesus Christ.
  • We stick together. We will fight the fight together.

But we’ll also run into people who act like they are our friends. They will call you, “BROTHER.” Be careful.

  • The Bible warns you about these so-called friends and what they will do to you.
  • They will betray you. They will stab you in the back. Don’t let it surprise you. Be ready.

[87] Matthew 26:49-50 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

  • Watch out for these people. Show yourself friendly to others but watch out when you do.
  • Be careful. There are wolves out there everywhere. There are Judas Iscariot’s everywhere.
  • They will stab you in the back so be very careful out there and be guided through the word of God.
  • God will protect you, show you, get people away from you, and more. Trust in God.

Let’s pray.
