[2] The title of the sermon: “MEMORIZING GOSPEL VERSES FOR 2022.”
Let’s Memorize Gospel Bible Verses Together
- As a church in 2022, we’re going to memorize Gospel verses together.
- We’ll be reading the Bible through 5 times together with our Bible reading schedule.
- And we’ll add all of these Scriptures to be memorized this year.
- We’ll do these on a service by service basis. Sunday morning and Wednesday night.
- This means we have 104 services and 365 days to memorize all of these Scriptures.
- We’re going to do our best to get these in our heads and in our hearts for good.
- Some are going to be easy to memorize and some will take a little more work.
[3] Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
- This is why the Gospel is so important. The Bible tells us that most people will go to hell.
- The world says that most people are good. The Bible says the exact opposite of that.
- Let’s start by showing the truth in the Bible that there are none good.
[4] Psalm 53:3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
[5] Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
[6] Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
[7] Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
[8] Job 15:16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
[9] Mark 10:18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
[10] 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
[11] Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
[12] Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
- The Bible tells over and over again that there are none good but God.
- We are not righteous and holy. We have done evil. ALL OF US. This means we cannot save ourselves.
- We are not perfect, obviously. We have all sinned against God and continue to sin against Him.
- Our goodness will not get us to heaven because we don’t have any on our own.
- Any goodness that we get comes directly from God.
- We are born of a woman, which is unclean. “Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? NOT ONE.”
- We cannot make ourselves good because we aren’t good. GOD CAN, THOUGH.
- He can make us good through the righteousness of Jesus Christ.
- You can use any of the Scriptures here to show someone that they are not good when giving the Gospel.
[13] 1 John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
- We break God’s law when we sin. When we break God’s law, we are not good.
- For sin is the transgression of the law. What is God’s law?
[14] Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
[15] Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
[16] Exodus 20:7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.
[17] Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
[18] Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
[19] Exodus 20:13 Thou shalt not kill.
[20] Exodus 20:14 Thou shalt not commit adultery.
[21] Exodus 20:15 Thou shalt not steal.
[22] Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
[23] Exodus 20:17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
The 10 Commandments Show That Every Person Sins
- Just by using the 10 commandments, which are God’s law, you can show someone that they are a sinner.
- Everyone in existence has broken the 10 commandments.
- Everyone has stolen something. No one has 100% of the time honored their father and mother.
- Everyone has coveted something in their life. If you want what your neighbor has, this is coveting.
- And this is a sin against the Lord God Almighty. One sin means that we’ve broken the entire law.
[24] 1 Samuel 12:23 Moreover as for me, God forbid that I should sin against the LORD in ceasing to pray for you: but I will teach you the good and the right way:
- “I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you.”
- When you don’t pray for someone you should, this is sin.
[25] Matthew 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
- Every man in existence has done this and is guilty of this. One sin means you have broken God’s law.
- This means you have broken God’s law and are guilty.
[26] James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
- Every person should admit that they have broken God’s law. We are guilty of all.
- I am not better than you, and you are not better than me. We are all guilty. We are all filthy.
- We are not clean. This is what the Bible teaches us. We must understand this.
- Since we are guilty, we know that there must be a penalty for breaking God’s law.
- What is this penalty?
[27] Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
[28] James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
- Sin brings death. The penalty of sin is death. We all die a physical death. Right?
- Every person you see here right now is headed for a physical death. WE ALL MUST DIE.
- This is proof that we are all sinners. If we were not, we wouldn’t be headed for a physical death.
[29] Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
- The penalty for sin is death. Since we’re all sinners, we are all headed for death. That is the penalty.
- The day you committed your first sin, you received the penalty of death and hell.
- There is a physical death of your flesh, but then there can be a second death of your soul.
- You can’t get out of the physical death, but you can get out of the second death of your soul in hell.
- This is what God and Jesus Christ can save you from. He can save you from death and hell.
[30] Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
- All liars shall have their part in the lake of fire. We have all lied and that makes us liars.
- When we are saved by Jesus Christ, though, we are forgiven of those lies. We are no longer liars.
- Our soul has no sin counted to it because God has taken it all away from our souls.
- This is the good news. This is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Without Jesus, death and hell is the destination.
[31] Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
[32] Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
- Hell was created by God for people who hate Him and don’t want anything to do with Him.
- You don’t want to go there. While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. He died for all people.
- We can be saved from the wrath of God through the blood of Jesus Christ. That’s it. There is no other way.
[33] Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
- Anyone can be saved by Jesus Christ. God created all of us, and He has loved us all.
- We can continue in His love by trusting in His Son, Jesus Christ. Then we will never lose His love.
- And it doesn’t matter who you are, what you look like, or where you’re from.
[34] Isaiah 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
[35] 2 Corinthians 5:14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
- Jesus Christ died for all people because we’re all dead without Him. Jesus is the Savior of the world.
- Jesus Christ is the only way that you can be saved from death and hell.
[36] John 4:25-26 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. 26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.
- I love that Scripture right there. Jesus clearly says, “I am the Messiah. I am the Christ. I am the Savior.”
- There is no other Savior. It’s only Jesus Christ. HE IS THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.
Who Is The Savior Of The World?
[37] John 9:35-38 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God? 36 He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? 37 And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee. 38 And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.
[38] Mark 14:61-62 But he held his peace, and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him, and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? 62 And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
- Jesus Christ is called the CHRIST because He is the Savior of the world. We are not. We are not God.
- Jesus Christ is God and He is the Son of God.
[39] 1 John 4:14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
[40] John 1:1-4 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
- Jesus Christ created all things. He is the Son of God and is God. He was there in the beginning with God.
- He already gave you life and proved Himself to you. You are only here through Him.
- You are only alive right now because of Him. Is that not enough proof for you? The proof of God is you.
- The proof of Jesus Christ is you. All things were made by Him. You were made by Jesus Christ.
- If you want life to continue, then you need Jesus Christ. “IN HIM WAS LIFE.” In us is death.
- In us is sin. Sin is not life. Sin is death. Jesus Christ has no sin. He is life. If you want life, go to Jesus Christ.
[41] John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- You cannot get to heaven, where God the Father lives, unless you go through Jesus Christ.
- He is the only way to heaven. There is no other way.
[42] 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
- Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world. He is the payment for the sins of the whole world.
- He is the sacrifice for sins. There is no other sacrifice for sins. He paid for your sins.
[43] John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
- Jesus Christ came in the flesh, just like us, to save us. He was born of a virgin. He is a miracle.
[44] Matthew 1:23-25 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. 24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: 25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
- Jesus lived a perfect life even though He was in this flesh just like ours. He never sinned once.
- He never had a bad thought. He stayed obedient to God the Father. This is something we couldn’t do.
- So He did it for us. HE IS THE RIGHTEOUS. We are not. He says, “I will be the sacrifice for sins.”
[45] Romans 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
- Since Jesus is the perfect and spotless Lamb of God, He can be the sacrifice. And that’s what He is.
- Jesus went to the cross to be the sacrifice for our sins. He was betrayed, denied, mocked, beaten.
- He was spit upon and slashed. He wore a crown of thorns.
[46] Isaiah 53:3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
- All of this for being perfect, righteous, and sinless. All of this for giving Himself for us. He died for us.
[47] Matthew 27:50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
- Many witnesses saw Him die on the cross. His body was buried and His soul went to hell.
- He took our penalty. If we die with sin counted to our soul, we go to hell and burn in hell.
- He took that penalty for us. The Bible says so.
[48] Isaiah 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.
[49] Isaiah 53:10 Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.
[50] Acts 2:27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
[51] Acts 2:31-32 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
- Jesus died on the cross. His body was buried in a tomb. His soul went to hell as an offering for sin.
- But His soul was not left in hell. His flesh did not see corruption. God raised up THIS JESUS.
The Soul Of Jesus Christ Went To Hell But Was Not Left There
[52] Matthew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
- Hell is at the heart of the earth. Jesus went there for 3 days and 3 nights after He died on the cross.
- The eternal God and the perfect Jesus Christ went to hell for you and I.
- He is the burnt offering for our sins.
[53] Matthew 20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
[54] Luke 24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
[55] 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
- Jesus arose from the dead. He was fully dead. His body was dead and His soul was in hell.
- But He arose from the dead. If He didn’t, we wouldn’t be here right now.
- He was seen of many witnesses after He arose from the dead. He was seen of 500 brethren at once.
- The people who saw Him die on the cross are the same witnesses who saw Him after He arose.
- He stayed on earth in His resurrected body for 40 days. He showed Himself to people. He is alive.
[56] Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
- Jesus lives. He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today. Behold, He is alive for evermore.
- He has the keys of hell and of death. He has them. No one else does.
- If you want to be saved, you must go to Jesus Christ. You must go through Him. What must you do?
- There’s something you must do to be saved by Jesus Christ and it’s not a physical work that you do.
[57] Acts 16:30-31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
- All you MUST do is believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Believe that He is who He says He is.
- He says, “I AM THE CHRIST.” Believe it. “Lord, I believe.”
[58] Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
- We must be saved by Jesus Christ and through Jesus Christ. His offering for sins is the ONLY ONE.
[59] Hebrews 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
- His sacrifice is forever. He did this once and forever. You don’t need anything else.
- He sacrificed Himself for Adam, Abel, Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joshua, John, Peter, Paul, and Matthew.
- He sacrificed Himself for you and I. He is the ONE SACRIFICE for all people of all time.
- You must believe “ON” the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved from death and hell.
[60] John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
[61] John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
[62] John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
[63] John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
[64] John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
[65] John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
[66] John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
- Put all your trust IN and ON Jesus Christ and be saved right now. You will receive everlasting life.
- This is what Jesus says. People who confess to trust in God won’t believe this.
- They think there’s more that you must do. They think there are works that you must do.
- No. Simply change your mind and believe on Jesus Christ. This is repentance for salvation.
[67] Acts 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
- Believing on Jesus Christ is what saves you. Putting all your trust in Him saves you.
[68] Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- Faith “IN” Jesus Christ is fully believing “IN” Him alone. If you add a work, this is not faith.
- We are not saved in ANY WAY by works. Believing on Him is not a work.
- Everlasting life is the gift of God. The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
- Grace means that we do not deserve the gift of God. But He gives it to us through faith.
[69] Romans 11:6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
- We cannot be saved through works in any way, shape, or form.
We Are Not Saved Through Works In Any Way
[70] Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
[71] Titus 3:5-7 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; 7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
- Once we believe on Jesus Christ, we have eternal life. God says so. Don’t argue with Him.
[72] 1 John 5:10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
[73] 1 John 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
[74] 1 John 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
[75] 1 John 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
- God says that we have eternal life once we believe on the name of the Son of God.
- You will not go to hell. It’s over and it’s done. You’ve been born again.
[76] 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
[77] 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
- We are born again. We are healed in our souls. We will live on for eternity. You are forgiven.
[78] Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
[79] Jude 1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
- FORGIVEN. Done. We are sanctified or saved. Past tense. We are preserved in Jesus Christ. We are sealed.
[80] Ephesians 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
- It’s over once you believe on Jesus Christ the Son of God the Savior of the world.
[81] John 11:26-27 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
- Jesus says that if you’re alive and believe in Him, you will never die.
- “I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God.” That’s it if you truly mean this will all your heart.
[82] John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
[83] John 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
[84] John 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.
- Jesus Christ is not a liar.
[85] John 10:28-30 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.
- The God of all creation says that no man, including yourself, will pluck you out of His hands.
- You are saved, sanctified, and preserved in Jesus Christ if you simply believe on Him.
- This means you believe that there’s nothing else that contributes to salvation but Jesus Christ.
- Baptism in water doesn’t contribute to salvation. Once you are saved, you should be baptized.
- Works are not a part of salvation before, during, or after salvation. It’s a one-time event.
- Salvation does not depend on your works of righteousness. Baptism in water is a work.
- And you should be baptized in water directly after you’re saved. Works won’t save you.
[86] Matthew 7:21-23 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
[87] Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
- Once we have faith, we are the children of God.
[88] Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
- Now that you’re saved, you should want to do good for God. He died for you.
- Can’t you do something for Him?
- Be baptized first. Then, get into a good church that preaches the word of God.
- Study the Bible. Preach the Gospel. Help to save other people. Teach them about God.
- That’s what we do here. That’s our purpose. You are now called in God to do good works.
We Need To Learn, Memorize, Know, And Use These Scriptures
These are the Scriptures we’re going to work on memorizing this year. I want you to know these.
- I want you to write them upon the tables of your heart. I want you to see and understand every word.
- I want you to start sharing these Scriptures with everyone around you including strangers.
- How are we going to do this? We’re going to use note cards.
- We’re going to write the Scriptures on note cards and keep that note card with us each day.
- Let’s go over the first verse we’re going to memorize together.
[89] Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
- We want to have this at the beginning because this teaches us that most people go to hell.
- God doesn’t want most people going to hell, and that’s why He has you here. Understand that.
- So, here’s an example note card I have here for me to memorize this Scripture.
- We’re going to break the verses down into smaller parts.
- “Enter ye in at the strait gate” is the first smaller part that we will memorize.
We will repeat this several hundred times while we go throughout the day.
- This might take a few minutes to repeat the phrase. Spend 5 minutes if needed.
- Within your mind, say: “Enter ye in at the strait gate. Enter ye in at the strait gate.”
- “Enter ye in at the strait gate.” Say it over and over hundreds of times. This is the word of God.
- This will help you know matter what you might think right now.
Once you’re finished with the first part, move to the second part.
- “For wide is the gate. For wide is the gate. For wide is the gate.” Over and over again. Hundreds of times.
- Move on to the next part. “And broad is the way. And broad is the way. And broad is the way.”
- On and on again. And keep going with each verse one at a time.
- You should easily be able to memorize a verse each day. Put it all together.
- And then repeat the entire verse the next day. Practice it over and over again.
- We will do this and meditate on these Gospel Scriptures the entire year.
- Do you know what this will do for us? Let’s see.
[90] Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
[91] Psalm 1:2-3 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
[92] Psalm 119:99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
[93] Proverbs 2:1-6 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
- If you want to be wise and find true knowledge, you will meditate on God’s words.
- And that’s what I want to teach you this year.
[94] Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
- I want to leave you with one last verse for this sermon before I hand out the schedule for memorization.
[95] John 15:7-8 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. 8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
- Now, let’s do this together as a church for Jesus Christ.
- He says, “If my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”
- Doesn’t that sound like a good deal for this year? It’s a deal He makes with you for all of eternity.
- But let’s do that this year. And let’s see what happens. “THAT YE BEAR MUCH FRUIT.”
- If we do this, we will give the Gospel more and more because His words are with us all day long.
- We’ll be memorizing Scriptures. Then we’ll talk with someone and those Scriptures will be on our mind.
- His words will go forth. We will bear much fruit. And we will be His disciples. Let’s do this.
With that said, let’s take a quick look at our Gospel Scriptures memorization schedule.
- Can I have a couple of volunteers to come up here to pass these out?
- Now, take a quick look at the schedule. Here’s how it will work.
- Until Sunday, you’ll have the rest of the night, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday to memorize the first one.
- Matthew 7:13 is the first one we’ll do. We will provide all the notecards for everyone.
- Each one of you will write the verse on the notecard and save it. Keep it in your pocket.
On Sunday morning, we’ll go over the Scripture together. On Wednesday night, we’ll go over the next Scripture.
- We will not look at the Scriptures, and we will recite the verse together.
- We’ll do this every service for the next year. You’ll get out of it what you put into it.
- If you want to keep track of your success for the year, get a partner here at church.
- And you and your partner can recite the Scriptures to each other before each service.
- Keep track if you got it right or not. If not, make sure you memorize it and get it right.
- You get one chance to get it right when reciting the Scripture to your partner.
- If you miss it, you miss it. The best at the end of the year will get a prize.
- No cheating. Thou shalt not cheat.
Let’s pray.
