[2] The title of the sermon today is “JOHN CHAPTER 16.”

Jesus Teaches Us About The Vine, Branches, And Fruit

• Before we go to John Chapter 16, I want to do a quick recap of John Chapter 15.
• We see that Jesus is continuing to teach His disciples in John Chapter 15.
• Every word is directly from the mouth of Jesus Christ.
• We see Jesus talk about the vine, the branches, and the fruit.

[3] John 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

• False preachers use that to say you must bear fruit or you are not saved.
• That’s not what Jesus says. He does say, “Whosoever believeth on me hath everlasting life.”
• The Bible never says you must do good works to be saved.
• But you should do good works and bear fruit and that fruit is other people with everlasting life.

If you aren’t using the word of God, studying the word of God, preaching the word of God, then God will not add wisdom and knowledge to you in order to get more people saved.

• He’s not going to put effort into a saved person who isn’t doing what He asks them to do.
• But the people who are doing what God asks? What about them?
• God will help them and add more to them. That’s what the Scripture means there.
• God will help you so you can bring forth more fruit. And that’s what you should want because God does.

[4] John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

• False preachers say: “SEE!!! You can lose your salvation. God will cut you off and throw you into hell.”
• Is that what that says? No, it isn’t. If a man doesn’t abide in Jesus, he is cast forth in this world, men gather these people who aren’t abiding in Jesus, and men cast them into the fire and burn them.
• And yes, that’s what actually happens. It doesn’t say anything about God throwing someone into hell.
• And we know that a saved person cannot lose everlasting life.
• We believe the Gospel and the gift of everlasting life to all those who believe on Jesus.

[5] John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

• If you do what Jesus asks, you will bear fruit and you will be HIS DISCIPLE.
• You can be saved and not be a disciple of Jesus Christ. You can follow yourself and choose yourself.
• You can follow a pastor and choose a denomination. You can be a disciple of all these other things.
• But you won’t be a disciple of Jesus Christ. And God needs disciples who bear much fruit.

Jesus teaches us to continue in His love by doing what He commands us to do.

• If we do, He calls us friends and not servants. He’s making everything known to us as friends.
• He commands us to love one another by simply doing what He asks us to do.
• During John Chapter 15, we see Jesus preparing His disciples for what’s going to soon happen.
• We know Jesus is going to be sacrificed for our sins and go to His Father in heaven.
• He tells them that the world will hate them. Same thing with us IF we follow Jesus.

[6] John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.

• Understand that Jesus was hated before you.
• And then Jesus tells them that the Comforter is coming.
• Jesus will send the Holy Ghost to us from the Father.
• The Holy Ghost will testify of Jesus Christ.

[7] John 15:26-27 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: 27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

• That’s the end of John Chapter 15. We’ll start there in verse 1 of John Chapter 16.

[8] John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

• When the world hates you for the cause of Jesus Christ, don’t be offended.
• When you go out preaching the Gospel door to door, don’t be offended when someone yells “Get off my porch!!!”
• When you go out preaching the Gospel and you’re mocked and laughed at, don’t be offended.
• It’s going to happen. Get over it. Move on to the next house. Keep moving. Keep preaching.
• The vast majority of people are not going to like you. That’s how this world works.
• “THAT YE SHOULD NOT BE OFFENDED!!!” Jesus is teaching us these things for that reason.

Don’t Be Offended In Jesus Christ

You don’t want to go the other way and let these people offend you so that you’re offended by Jesus Christ.

• You don’t want to listen to them, be scared of them, and then be offended by Jesus Christ.
• “Well, I don’t go out and preach the Gospel because I am offended by Jesus Christ.”
• Since everyone hates me when I go out and preach the Gospel, I’m just going to quit.

[9] Matthew 11:6 And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me.

• Don’t be offended in Jesus Christ because the world makes it tough to follow Jesus Christ.
• You shouldn’t care if people make fun of you, laugh at you, or hate you for following Jesus Christ.

[10] John 16:2-3 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3 And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

• These false religions believe that they’re doing God a service when they hate you.
• They will kick you out of “THEIR” churches. They will kill you.
• They hate when you use the word of God to reprove and rebuke them for their false teaching.
• They will say, “I believe the Bible is the word of God. I believe it is perfect. God means what He says.”
• But show them clear Scripture, and they say: “Oh no, that’s not what God means.”
• Why do they hate you? Verse 3 gives the answer. “Because they have not known the Father, nor me.”

[11] John 16:4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

• Jesus is telling them these things now because He’s going away to His Father.
• He’s also telling them these things so they remember that He warned them when these things happen.
• When you go through these things, understand that Jesus already knew they would happen.
• He’s told us. Don’t be surprised and offended when these things happen.
• Stand up for Jesus and expect to be persecuted. Understand He’s telling you what will happen.

[12] John 16:5-6 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

• Sorrow filled their hearts because of the things Jesus is telling them.
• He’s going away. They will be kicked out of the synagogues. They will be killed.
• But they didn’t ask Jesus, “Whither goest thou?” What place are you going to, Jesus? They didn’t ask Him.
• But sorrow fills their heart.

[13] John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

• Jesus only tells us the truth. He says so over and over again throughout the Bible.
• It’s better for Jesus to go away so the Comforter will come unto them.
• If Jesus departs, the Comforter will come. Jesus isn’t staying with them on earth forever.
• But the Holy Spirit, who is the Comforter, will stay with us forever.
• Would you rather have Jesus with a few people for a little while OR the Holy Spirit with all saved forever?

[14] John 14:16-17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

• The Holy Spirit can be within you forever. He is the Spirit of Christ.
• Jesus Himself, in John Chapter 16, says it is good for Him to go away because He is sending the Holy Spirit.

[15] John 16:8-11 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

• The Holy Spirit will reprove the world of 3 things: sin, righteousness, and judgement.
• Then Jesus explains what He means with each of those 3 things.
• The Holy Spirit will reprove or convince the world of sin because they believe not on Jesus.
• Make sure you see what that says. “Of sin, because they believe not on me.”
• Your soul will have sin counted to it unless you believe on Jesus. That’s what it says right there.
• You will continue in sin all your life unto your death unless you believe on Jesus Christ.

The Holy Spirit will reprove or convince the world of righteousness who is Jesus Christ.

• Jesus Christ is the only righteousness in this world. God alone is righteous.
• We can only be righteous through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other way to be righteous.
• There is no other way to enter into the Kingdom of God. Jesus is the only way.
• And who convinces the world of this? The Holy Spirit does.
• If you believe on Jesus Christ right now, that means the Holy Spirit convinced you of that.
• He came to you, convinced you, you believed, and then He indwells you.

The Holy Spirit Reproves The World Of Judgement

The Holy Spirit reproves or convinces the world of judgement because the prince of this world is judged.

• When Jesus died on the cross, His soul went to hell, and His body was buried.
• The prince of this world is Satan, Lucifer, the great dragon, the serpent.
• He’s being judged and will be judged. Jesus defeats the prince of this world when He rises from the dead.

[16] John 12:31-33 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. 33 This he said, signifying what death he should die.

• With the sacrifice of Jesus, all people can be saved from the evil and darkness in this world.
• Satan is slowly losing more and more people to God Almighty.
• When Jesus was lifted up from the earth, He draws all men unto Him.
• The Holy Spirit comes to all people to convince them to be saved through Jesus Christ.

You might say, “Well, this person or that person never had the chance.”

• And guess what? That’s you speaking something you don’t know.
• How do you know they never had the chance? I know that they did because Jesus says so.
• Jesus says, “And I will draw all men unto me.” When He says all, He means all.
• That means every single person you’ve known has had the chance to be saved.
• Satan is slowly losing his kingdom of darkness a little each day when someone is saved.
• The coming of Jesus Christ is getting closer and closer.
• Satan’s final judgement is coming closer and closer, and I can’t wait for that to get here.

[17] Revelation 20:8-9 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.

[18] Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

• The devil or Satan will be cast into the lake of fire and will be tormented forever.
• That will be a great day for all of us.

[19] John 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

• There are many things that Jesus needs to tell them, but it’s just not the time.
• The Holy Spirit, though, will come and guide them into these truths as needed.
• Do you remember when Peter learns that the Gentiles can be saved too?

[20] Acts 10:17-18 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate, 18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

[21] Acts 10:19-20 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee. 20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

• The Spirit of Jesus Christ is slowly revealing things to the disciples at the perfect time.
• Notice that the Spirit spoke to him. The “Spirit said unto him.”

[22] Acts 10:34-36 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons: 35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him. 36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

[23] Acts 10:37-38 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached; 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

[24] Acts 10:39-41 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree: 40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly; 41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

[25] Acts 10:42-43 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead. 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

• Peter learns through the Holy Ghost that it’s not just Israel who can be saved now.
• It’s WHOSOEVER believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
• And to enforce the truth that Peter just spoke through the Holy Spirit, watch what happens next.

[26] Acts 10:44-45 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

• This is just one of the examples I believe Jesus was talking about in John Chapter 16.
• He says, “I have many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.”
• They didn’t know, at that time, that all people could be saved through believing on Jesus.
• But there were things that they could not bear at this time.

The Spirit Of Truth Is Coming To The Disciples

[27] John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

• The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth. You can see that happen with the disciples.
• The Holy Spirit does not speak of Himself. That means there’s someone else.
• The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These three are one.
• You can see the disciples receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in John Chapter 20.

[28] John 20:22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost:

• Obviously, this is Jesus giving them the breath of the Holy Spirit which they breathe in.
• The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the Holy Spirit living within you.
• This is not the same as the Holy Spirit coming upon you as we see in Acts Chapter 2.
• The disciples receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as Jesus prophesied to them.
• The Holy Spirit comes upon people with POWER in Acts Chapter 2.
• That’s different than the indwelling.
• The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is new after Jesus arises from the dead.

[29] John 16:14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

• The Holy Spirit is working for God. He will glorify God. He will receive everything from God.
• He will take those things from God and show those things to you.

[30] John 16:15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

• The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one God.
• The job of the Holy Spirit, though, is to teach you all things and to show you all things.
• And He will do His job because He is the perfect God. He is God Almighty.

[31] 2 Corinthians 3:6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

• The Spirit gives life. “I thought it was Jesus that gave life.” They are both the one true God.

[32] 2 Corinthians 3:17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

• God is THAT Spirit. The Lord is THAT Spirit.

[33] 1 Corinthians 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.

• The Spirit of God Himself is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God.
• If you want to learn about God, you need those things to be revealed to you BY HIS SPIRIT.
• If you want to learn the deep things of God, you need the Holy Spirit.
• It’s obvious when a false preacher speaks because they don’t have the Holy Spirit.
• When they tell lies about the Scriptures, it’s obvious. They constantly say things against God’s word.
• That’s because the Holy Spirit isn’t there. He’s absent from those false preachers.
• With the Holy Spirit and the Scriptures, we should be able to see that quickly.

[34] John 16:16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

• Jesus is going to die on the cross, His soul will go to hell for 3 days and 3 nights, His body will be buried in the tomb, but He will arise from the dead.
• “A little while and ye shall not see me” = His dead body will be in the tomb.
• “And again a little and ye shall see me” = He’s going to arise from the dead and appear to them.
• He stays on earth in His new body for 40 days. After that, He’s going to His Father.

[35] John 16:17-18 Then said some of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father? 18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

• Have you ever been scared to ask someone a question directly?
• You would rather discuss it between yourselves than ask the question directly to that person.
• I’ve done that many times in my life. “Should I ask that question?”
• Usually it’s because you think you should probably already know the answer.
• They’re like, “What does Jesus mean? A little while? What is He talking about?”
• Clearly, they don’t understand what He means even though He’s given them the answers before.

[36] Mark 9:31-32 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day. 32 But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.

• So, they were afraid to ask Jesus certain questions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
• “Well, I should probably know this so I won’t ask the question.” Ask the question.
• When Jesus is around, though, which is ALL THE TIME, He already knows your thoughts anyway.
• And if He already knows your thoughts, what else could matter? Nothing.
• Watch what happens next in John Chapter 16.

[37] John 16:19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

• So He already knows that they’re doing. They are asking questions amongst themselves.
• When none of them know the answers. When you have questions, you should go to the Scriptures first.
• Go to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to teach you the Scriptures. Find your answers within the Scriptures.
• Go straight to the Spirit of Jesus Christ who He gave you. He’s going to answer with the truth.

You Shall Weep And Lament But The World Will Rejoice

[38] John 16:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

• Jesus is telling them about His death, burial, and resurrection.
• “That ye shall weep and lament.” They are going to be sad and sorry when Jesus dies.
• But the world will rejoice when Jesus dies because they didn’t realize who He was.
• BUT JESUS SAYS, “Your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” That’s when Jesus is not found in the tomb.

[39] Matthew 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

[40] Mark 16:6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

[41] Luke 24:6-7 He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.

• That’s joy right there. HE IS NOT HERE IN THIS TOMB!!! But He is risen. That should make you happy!!!
• Because He is risen, you can have everlasting life.
• After Jesus arose from the dead, He appeared to His disciples. He frightened them.
• They didn’t believe at first. But He stayed with them and watch what happens in Luke Chapter 24.
• This is the very end of the Book of Luke.

[42] Luke 24:50-53 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them. 51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. 52 And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: 53 And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.

• They had GREAT JOY because Jesus was alive. They were continually in the temple.
• They praised and blessed God continuously because Jesus is alive.
• Hopefully, that’s why you’re here today.
• You should be here to praise and worship God in Spirit and in truth.
• Watch what happened earlier in Luke Chapter 24 as Jesus taught the Scriptures.

[43] Luke 24:27-28 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. 28 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.

[44] Luke 24:29-30 But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them. 30 And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.

[45] Luke 24:31-32 And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight. 32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?

• The Holy Spirit will open the Scriptures to you so you understand.
• “Did not our heart burn within us while he opened to us the Scriptures?”
• I sure hope that’s what happens to you as we study the Scriptures together. This should bring JOY!!!
• Jesus said, “Your sorrow shall be turned into joy.” Find joy within the Scriptures!
• Keep in mind as we continue in John Chapter 16 that Jesus is explaining what He meant.
• A little while and you won’t see me. And then a little and you will see me.

[46] John 16:21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

• When a woman is going to give birth, she is in travail or labor with great pain.
• She has sorrow. She is sorry that she is having a baby at that time. It’s not easy when her hour comes.
• As soon as she has that great and beautiful blessing from God, she doesn’t remember the pain any more.
• Why? For joy that a man is born into the world. That little baby takes all the sorrow away.
• The pain is gone. Jesus is telling them what’s going to happen.

Jesus Is Speaking In Proverbs

But notice that Jesus doesn’t CLEARLY tell them what’s going to happen.

• He could have said, “Hey, listen, Judas Iscariot is out betraying me right now.”
• “He’s bringing a band of soldiers to take me. They are going to accuse me and put me to death.”
• “They are going to crucify me. I’m going to die. My soul will go to hell. My body will be in the grave.”
• “On the third day, I will arise in my body from the dead. You will not find my body in the grave.”
• “I’ll come and see you all after that happens.” But He doesn’t do that. Let’s continue.

[47] John 16:22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

• Right now, they have sorrow because Jesus is going away. He’s going to die on the cross.
• “BUT I WILL SEE YOU AGAIN.” When they see Jesus again, their heart will rejoice.
• And that JOY they have will NEVER be taken away. Do you understand that?
• The joy you have from receiving everlasting life will never go away. No man can take it away.
• They can kill us, but they can never take our joy away. EVER. Jesus says so.

[48] John 16:23-24 And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

• They aren’t going to ask Jesus directly for anything. He won’t be there with them forever.
• But they will have the Holy Spirit with them. Ask the Father in the name of Jesus and He will give it you.
• And remember, this means actually asking according to God’s will. That’s in the name of Jesus.
• Jesus doesn’t do anything against the will of God. Jesus is commanding us to ask so our joy may be full.
• Ask for the right things in the name of Jesus. Do not ask amiss or in error because you won’t receive.

[49] John 16:25 These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

• They couldn’t understand what He was saying. They couldn’t bear all things at this time.
• He didn’t want to give them more than they could handle. But He does reveal things over time.
• He does the same thing with you and I. If we can’t handle it yet, then He doesn’t show us yet.
• He tells them there will be a time, though, when He will show them plainly of the Father.
• And He does keep that promise to them as always. Seek and you will find.

[50] John 16:26-27 At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you: 27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

• That day that Jesus is talking about is right now. We are in that day.
• We don’t need to ask Jesus in person to pray for us. And then He asks the Father for us.
• He says, “It’s not just me that loves you. My Father in heaven loves you.”
• Why is that? Jesus tells us. He says that His Father loves you because you have loved Jesus.
• He says, “You have believed that I came out from God. Because of that, my Father Himself loves you.”
• If you have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, you can ask the Father directly.
• Isn’t that great? You have a direct line of communication to God the Father.
• There is no one better to turn to than God Almighty. He is the beginning and the end.
• He is the alpha and omega. He is the eternal God. And you can ask Him anything.

[51] John 16:28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

• Again, Jesus tells them that He came forth from the Father.
• Where is His Father? He’s in heaven. Jesus came down from heaven.
• Jesus didn’t begin to exist once He was born to Mary. He has always existed.
• He came forth from the Father and then He came into the world. Do you see that?
• And now He says, “Again, I leave the world and go to the Father.”
• He will ascend into heaven to be with His Father.

[52] John 16:29-30 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. 30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

• The disciples say, “Now we understand a little better. You speak plainly now!”
• They say, “We are sure that you know ALL THINGS Jesus.”
• “Jesus, we know that you don’t need to ask anyone for information.”
• “We now believe that you have come forth from God.”

[53] John 16:31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

• Jesus is saying, “Really, do you now believe?” Like what else do I need to do?
• You’ve seen all the miracles. I’ve told you all these things. Do ye now believe?
• When we read clear Scripture in the Bible, and we don’t believe it, it’s the same thing.
• “Oh no, that can’t be right.” We do the same thing. We need to believe when Jesus tells us something.
• We need to mark it down as 100% truth. Just believe what He says.
• This whole Bible includes ALL THE WORDS of Jesus Christ. Believe it. “DO YE NOW BELIEVE?”
• Everything in here is the truth. Everything in here has happened. Everything in here will happen.

[54] John 16:32 Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

• The disciples will scatter and leave Him alone. But He really isn’t alone because there’s someone else.
• This verse proves that Jesus is not alone. “AND YET I AM NOT ALONE.” There’s more than one person.
• That verse proves there is more than one. The entire Bible from start to finish proves the same.
• So, when are the disciples scattered?

When Are The Disciples Scattered Like Sheep?

[55] Matthew 26:31 Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

• It is written in the Scriptures that they well scatter and leave Him alone.
• When the Shepherd of the flock is smitten, the sheep of the flock will be scattered.
• It had to happen. It is written. Where is it written?

[56] Zechariah 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.

• So, let’s see when this actually happens.

[57] Matthew 26:47-48 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people. 48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

[58] Matthew 26:49-51 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. 50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. 51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.

[59] Matthew 26:52-53 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. 53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

[60] Matthew 26:54-55 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? 55 In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

[61] Matthew 26:56 But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

• That’s when it happened. The disciples forsook Jesus and fled.
• Peter said previously, “I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU.” That’s a promise he didn’t keep.
• Why? Because the Scriptures wouldn’t have been fulfilled. God already knows the future.
• And remember, Jesus Christ is NEVER ALONE because the Holy Spirit and His Father are eternal.
• They will never leave Jesus. Jesus will never leave them.
• And Jesus promises to NEVER leave you once you put your trust on Him alone to save you.
• Let’s read the last verse in John Chapter 16.

[62] John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

• You will have tribulation, trials, and troubles in this world. Who doesn’t?
• Jesus never promises for you to have an easy and perfect life if you trust Him.
• He never says that. He never promises to give you great riches like the prosperity false preachers.
• It does not matter what the world does to you because Jesus overcame the world.
• The false pre-tribulation rapture preachers will say, “God would never make you go through tribulation or great tribulation.”
• “My little brain can’t comprehend that so it must not be true.”
• What does Jesus say, though? YE SHALL HAVE TRIBULATION.
• “Well, that doesn’t mean tribulation like in the Book of Revelation. No way.”

[63] Revelation 7:13-14 And one of the elders answered, saying unto me, What are these which are arrayed in white robes? and whence came they? 14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

• I must have missed the part in Revelation that says: “These are the Jews which came out of great tribulation.”
• I must have missed the part that said, “The church has already been raptured so this actual occurrence of the rapture in Revelation Chapter 7 is something that was only for the Jews.”
• Do you know why I didn’t miss that part? BECAUSE IT’S NOT THERE.
• It only exists in the minds of these false pre-tribulation rapture teachers.

We Shall Have Tribulation In This World

• Jesus HIMSELF says we shall have tribulation. He wasn’t just talking to the Jews.
• He’s telling SAVED PEOPLE that they will have tribulation. It’s throughout the entire Bible.
• Let’s listen to the words of Jesus Christ and stop listening to the words of man.
• We will have tribulation in our life but be of good cheer because Jesus is in control.

He has overcome this world. He is God, and He is on your side.

• Because you’ve believed what He says, His Father is on your side.
• And He’s even given you the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to guide you and to teach you.
• Look at what Jesus has given you! It’s amazing. Don’t be scared in this world.
• NO ONE CAN TOUCH THE EVERLASTING LIFE THAT GOD HAS GIVEN YOU.
