[2] The title of the sermon today is “GENESIS CHAPTER 9.”

God Made A Wind To Pass Over The Earth

• Before we go to Genesis Chapter 9, let’s summarize what we learned in Genesis Chapter 8.
• We saw that God made a wind to pass over the earth and the waters asswaged or eased.
• The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped.
• How long did that take from the beginning of the flood?

[3] Genesis 8:3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

• 150 days is 5 months. The Bible teaches us that there are 30 days in each Bible month.
• The ark rests in the seventh month on the 17^th day of the month.
• Do you remember where the ark rested? Upon the mountains of Ararat.
• So, the waters eased up, slowed down, but the earth was still flooded.
• The ark was resting upon a mountain top. So the mountain was still covered with water.

[4] Genesis 8:5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.

• The waters eased at 5 months into the flood. The ark rested in the 7^th month.
• The waters were now decreasing continually until the 10^th month.
• Then, the tops of the mountains are seen. After 40 days, Noah opens the window of the ark.
• He sends forth a raven and a dove. The raven goes to and fro until the waters are dried up.
• The dove finds no rest and returns to the ark. The waters were still covering the whole earth.
• Noah pulls the dove back into the ark with him and waits another 7 days.

[5] Genesis 8:11 And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.

• Noah then waits 7 more days and sends the dove out again. The dove doesn’t come back.
• The dove has now found safety upon the earth.

[6] Genesis 8:13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.

• In the six hundredth and first year of Noah’s life, on 1/1 of that year, the waters were dried.
• So, how long did that take? When did the flood start? We go back to Genesis Chapter 7.

[7] Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.

• In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, on 2/17 of that year, the waters started and the flood began.
• Now, in Genesis Chapter 8, we see the waters were dried on 1/1 of the following year.
• So, we’re at almost 11 months from the time the flood started.

[8] Genesis 8:14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.

• On 2/27/601 of Noah’s life, the earth is finally dried. But notice, Noah doesn’t leave the ark until when?

[9] Genesis 8:15-16 And God spake unto Noah, saying, 16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

• Noah leaves the ark once God speaks to him and tells him he can leave the ark.
• All of Noah, his family of 7 others, his wife, his 3 sons, and their 3 wives. Total of 8 people leave the ark.
• And what else leaves the ark? Every beast, creeping thing, and fowl leave the ark.
• Notice there are no sea creatures on the ark.
• Only land animals and fowls who need the land to live were on the ark.
• After Noah leaves the ark, what does he do first? Do you remember?

[10] Genesis 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

• Because of this, the Lord says He will no longer curse the ground any more for man’s sake.
• He also promises not to smite any more every living thing as He had done with the flood.
• This means God will not smite all men and women ever again as He did with the flood.

[11] Genesis 8:22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

• The earth will abide here forever, but there will be a new heaven and a new earth.
• God will send His wrath in the Book of Revelation, but He never destroys all the earth ever again.
• As long as the earth remains, there will be seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter.
• Sometimes I don’t like winter. I better get over it because it’s not going anywhere.
• Day and night shall not cease as long as the earth remains.
• And it will remain until there is a new heaven and a new earth. This earth will be made new.
• With that said, let’s start there in verse 1 of Genesis Chapter 9.

Be Fruitful And Multiply

[12] Genesis 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

• God blesses Noah AND his sons. He tells them to be fruitful and multiply. Go replenish the earth.
• If you remember, God commanded Adam and Eve to do the same thing in Genesis Chapter 1.

[13] Genesis 1:28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

• That commandment from God wasn’t ever taken away. Once you’re married, it’s time for children.
• “Well, I want to put my career first. Well, I want to finish college first. I want. I want. I want.”
• There is no greater blessing than children. And God said, “Be fruitful and multiply.”
• God didn’t say, “Be fruitful and multiply if you think it’s right for you.”

[14] Psalm 128:1-4 Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. 2 For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be, and it shall be well with thee. 3 Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. 4 Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD.

• If I actually would have feared the Lord earlier in my life, I would most likely have more children.
• But I made a mistake because I didn’t fear the Lord at all. So don’t make the same mistake I did.
• “Thy children like olive plants round about thy table.”
• There is no greater joy for me than to sit down and eat with my wife and children each day.
• I love to see their beautiful smiles. I love to see how different each of them are. They are amazing.

[15] Psalm 127:3-5 Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. 4 As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. 5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

• The Bible is 100% truth. HAPPY IS THE MAN who has a great career. Is that what it says?
• Happy is the woman who put off having children so she could have a great career.
• Is that what it says? Think about that. We want our careers, which don’t even breathe.
• We work our entire life for our careers and to further ourselves, and then we’re left with nothing.
• A job doesn’t breathe. A job isn’t alive. A little baby is alive. THAT IS WHAT BRINGS HAPPINESS.
• “Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them.” And that’s the truth.
• Stop listening to the lies of this world. Lies won’t make you happy.

[16] Genesis 9:2-3 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. 3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

• You should be glad that God put the fear of you into every beast, bird, and fish.
• For example, a horse could crush us any time it wants but God gave us horses to help us.
• Cattle are my favorite animal. They could crush us at any moment, but they fear us.
• Verse 3 is where God tells us that every living thing shall be meat for you as well as the green herb.
• That commandment was changed for the children of physical Israel when the law was implemented.
• The laws about what to eat were a picture of things to come. They could only eat clean creatures.
• God set out the rules for them on what was clean and unclean.
• And then it is changed again in Acts Chapter 10.

[17] Acts 10:9-11 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour: 10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance, 11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

[18] Acts 10:12-14 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air. 13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat. 14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

[19] Acts 10:15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

• God tells Peter clearly that if God says it clean, then it’s clean. Just like God said in Genesis Chapter 9.
• If God cleanses something or someone, that something or someone is clean.
• If God says the Gentiles can be saved and are clean, then they can be saved too and are clean.
• Being clean simply depends on whether or not you’ve believed on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• If you’ve believed on Him, then your soul is clean. If not, your soul isn’t clean.
• “What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.”
• God cleansed all beasts, creeping things, and fowls of the air so they can be for food.
• God cleansed all those who believe on Him so they can enter into heaven.

[20] Genesis 9:4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

• We don’t the blood with the meat. God has never allowed that at any time.
• Leviticus Chapter 7 and 17 say the same thing. Deuteronomy Chapter 12 and 15 command the same.
• 1 Samuel Chapter 14. And finally, we see the same in Acts Chapter 15.

Don’t Eat Blood Because It Was Never Okay

[21] Acts 15:19-20 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: 20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.

• In other words, don’t eat meat that is rare. That command is for all of us at all times.

[22] Genesis 9:5-6 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. 6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

• A man’s life is required at the hand of every beast, every man, and every man’s brother.
• What does that mean? This Scripture is difficult to understand without the rest of the Bible.
• If a beast kill’s a man, the beast shall be slain.
• If an owner of a beast knows that the beast has been aggressive in the past and kills a man, the owner shall be put to death.
• If a man kill’s another man, that man shall be put to death.
• In other words, God values the life of the man. Beast’s life for man. Man’s life for man. God values life.
• This would include the killing of babies, women, and men. A life is required when one is killed.

This is the point in the Bible in which God implements the death penalty.

• Some people will say that Jesus gets rid of the death penalty in John Chapter 8.
• We actually learn more from John Chapter 8 about this death penalty law that God implements.

[23] John 8:3-5 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

• We’ve been over this in detail in the John Chapter 8 Bible study so I’ll summarize quickly.
• Jesus doesn’t have the woman stoned. Why doesn’t He have the woman stoned?
• At this time on earth, the Romans are ruling. They are the law of the land.
• If Jesus would have ordered death to this woman, He would have been guilty of breaking the Roman law.
• And then Jesus would have been found guilty of breaking the Roman law.
• Jesus never broke the Roman law once. This is why Pilate could find nothing wrong with Jesus.
• The Jews, in John Chapter 18, want Jesus put to death. Pilate asks, “What has Jesus done?”

[24] John 18:29-30 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man? 30 They answered and said unto him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up unto thee.

[25] John 18:31-32 Then said Pilate unto them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said unto him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death: 32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spake, signifying what death he should die.

• Jesus did nothing wrong, but the Jews want Jesus to be put to death.
• This is why He didn’t pick up the stone to stone the woman or order her to be stoned.
• Now, if that would have been at a time when the law of God was ruling, she would have been put to death if it were true that was taken in adultery.
• But, the man and the woman BOTH would have been put to death. The man wasn’t brought to be stoned.

[26] John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

• No fault was found in Jesus because He did not break Roman law. This was God’s plan.
• This is why He didn’t order the woman to be put to death. He was not the authority to put her to death.
• And the chief priests and Pharisees know that it was NOT lawful for them to put her to death.
• They were always putting Jesus in difficult situations thinking He would do something wrong.
• Not going to happen because He already knows all things. He knows the future.
• Again, Jesus did not get rid of the death penalty in the New Testament. It is still valid today.

Notice that God implemented the death penalty directly after the flood.

• Cain didn’t receive the death penalty before the flood.
• Lamech, the first to have 2 wives, didn’t receive the death penalty either when he killed a man.
• People started to think: “Oh, it must be okay. Cain killed a man. Lamech killed a man.”
• It’s not okay to murder. It’s not okay to kill. Abortion is not okay.
• And notice within the examples of the Bible, the people would put the man to death.
• There’s not an example in the Bible where it’s okay to get revenge and murder someone.
• The death penalty is implemented by the people or the government.
• Let’s continue in Genesis Chapter 9.

[27] Genesis 9:7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.

• Go repeats His commandment again to be fruitful and multiply. He says, “HEY YOU. Are you listening?”
• “Bring forth abundantly in the earth and multiply therein.” God didn’t get rid of this commandment.

[28] Genesis 9:8-10 And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, 9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; 10 And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth.

• God is now establishing a covenant with Noah, his sons, and all the children after them.
• We all came from Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They all came from Noah and his wife.
• God also establishes His covenant with every beast of the earth. What is this covenant?

[29] Genesis 9:11 And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth.

• This is the covenant or agreement that God makes between Himself and everything living.
• God says, “Neither shall ALL flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood.”
• “There will not be a flood to destroy the entire earth ever again.”

[30] Isaiah 54:6-8 For the LORD hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused, saith thy God. 7 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer.

[31] Isaiah 54:9-10 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. 10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.

• God hides His face from us at times in this life because we are great sinners.
• In our flesh, God is not happy with us. In our saved souls, He is happy with us.
• If we believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, He is happy with our souls.
• He swore to us that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth.
• He has also sworn to us that His kindness will not depart from us.
• Neither shall the covenant of His peace be taken away. Your soul is at peace with God IF you’re saved.

[32] Psalm 89:24-26 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted. 25 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers. 26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

[33] Psalm 89:27-29 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth. 28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. 29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

[34] Psalm 89:30-33 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; 31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; 32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. 33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

[35] Psalm 89:34-37 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips. 35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David. 36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me. 37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

• In our flesh, we will sin against God. That’s not called peace with God. He will punish us for those things.
• But, He will not take His lovingkindness away from us utterly. He will not break His covenant with us.
• We shall endure forever because God has saved our souls.
• And if you are saved by believing on Jesus Christ, God will never take that away from you. EVER.
• He gives you everlasting life at the moment you put your trust in Jesus Christ.

Everlasting Life Is A Promise From God For All Those Who Believe

He makes that covenant with you just as He makes the covenant with you to never destroy the earth with a flood.

• God gave also gives us a sign of this covenant. Do you remember the sign of this covenant?
• Let’s go back to Genesis Chapter 9 and see the sign of this covenant.

[36] Genesis 9:13-15 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

• God gives us the rainbow as a token of the covenant between Him and all the earth.
• God says, “I do set my bow in the cloud.” The rainbow you see in the sky is God’s rainbow. MY BOW.
• He brings a cloud over the earth and the bow will be seen in the cloud.
• I love rainbows. I always stop what I’m doing and look at the rainbow. The rainbow is from God.
• And that is amazing to me. Rainbows are directly from God so stop and take a look next time.
• Remember what God has promised you and remember what God has given you.
• There’s nothing else throughout the Bible like the rainbow that God puts in the sky.
• You want a sign that God is there? Stop and take a look at the next rainbow you see. There’s your sign.

God calls the rainbow a TOKEN of this covenant between Him and us.

• A token is a sign or a mark or something that is given to us showing friendship with us.
• God says, “I love you so I will not destroy all of you ever again.” He’s showing His kindness to us.
• What other tokens of covenants are shown in the Bible?
• The rainbow is the very first token shown in the Bible.
• Circumcision is the next token in Genesis Chapter 17.
• After that, we see this next token to Moses in Exodus Chapter 3.

[37] Exodus 3:11-12 And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? 12 And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

• God is going to be with Moses. Moses will be the leader of the Israelites.
• For a token, God will meet Moses upon the mountain. Here’s another token seen in Exodus Chapter 13.

[38] Exodus 13:11-12 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee, 12 That thou shalt set apart unto the LORD all that openeth the matrix, and every firstling that cometh of a beast which thou hast; the males shall be the LORD’S.

[39] Exodus 13:13-14 And every firstling of an ass thou shalt redeem with a lamb; and if thou wilt not redeem it, then thou shalt break his neck: and all the firstborn of man among thy children shalt thou redeem. 14 And it shall be when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What is this? that thou shalt say unto him, By strength of hand the LORD brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage:

[40] Exodus 13:15 And it came to pass, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that the LORD slew all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of beast: therefore I sacrifice to the LORD all that openeth the matrix, being males; but all the firstborn of my children I redeem.

[41] Exodus 13:16 And it shall be for a token upon thine hand, and for frontlets between thine eyes: for by strength of hand the LORD brought us forth out of Egypt.

• God gives all types of tokens within the Bible as you can see.
• Aaron’s rod in Numbers Chapter 17 is a token.
• Judas Iscariot gives a token of a kiss to the one He betrays in Mark Chapter 14.
• And I want you to see the token given to you in the New Testament. Please pay attention to this.

[42] Philippians 1:28-30 And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God. 29 For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake; 30 Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

• Persecution is a token showing that you are one of God’s people doing what He asks you to do.
• Ye shall suffer persecution when you follow Jesus Christ.

[43] 2 Thessalonians 1:4-6 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure: 5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer: 6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

• People will persecute you over Jesus Christ. This is a token or a sign for you.
• Do not fear the people who persecute you because God will repay or recompense.
• And finally, the last token we see in the Bible is the salutation or closing that Paul uses for every letter.

[44] 2 Thessalonians 3:17-18 The salutation of Paul with mine own hand, which is the token in every epistle: so I write. 18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.

• Paul would close every letter with a salutation so we would know that those letters were from him.
• Please understand the tokens that God has given us within the Bible. The rainbow was the first token.
• Let’s continue in verse 16 of Genesis Chapter 9.

The Rainbow Is A Token Between God And Us

[45] Genesis 9:16-17 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth. 17 And God said unto Noah, This is the token of the covenant, which I have established between me and all flesh that is upon the earth.

• If you’re alive today, the rainbow is a token between you and God. It is an everlasting covenant.
• Does God use the rainbow to remind Him of this covenant because He forgets about it?
• God doesn’t lose track of what He’s promised, and He won’t break His promise.
• But He can forget about us if we decide to forget about Him. God doesn’t have a bad memory.
• We are the ones who need reminding. The rainbow is to remind us about God.

[46] Psalm 50:22 Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.

• That Scripture should scare you. It scares me. God says, “Don’t forget me LEST I tear you in pieces.”
• When you wake up in the morning, the first thing you should do is make your bed so you don’t forget about God.
• Does that sound right? No, it’s not. Your bed isn’t important.
• The first thing you should do is remember God. He’s the one that kept your heart beating all night long.
• He’s the one that gave you life. Remember God and nothing else and you’ll do great things for God.

[47] Genesis 9:18-19 And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread.

• Noah’s three sons that went into the ark with him were Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
• Ham is the father of Canaan, which must be important to know because it’s called out here.
• The whole earth was populated from those three sons of Noah.
• But, do you think all the sons of Shem stayed with only the daughters of Shem? Of course not.
• There isn’t a line of people that are only from Ham and all of those people are cursed.

Let’s learn a little more about Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

• Keep in mind that the flood started when Noah was 600 years old.
• So, how old were Shem, Ham, and Japheth when the flood started?
• We know they had wives so they weren’t children at the time of the flood.

[48] Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

• We know that the oldest was at least 100 years old because Noah begat the first when he was 500.
• Who was the oldest? Shem, Ham, or Japheth? The Bible tells us through a combination of Scriptures.
• In Genesis Chapter 9, which we’re studying, we see this:

[49] Genesis 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

[50] Genesis 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

• We know automatically that Ham is the youngest son of the three. This is his younger son.

[51] Genesis 10:21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

• Japheth is elder to Shem. We know that Japheth is the oldest son of Noah.
• That means Shem is the middle son of Noah. Japheth is first. Shem is second. Ham is third.
• That means we know Japheth was 100 years old during the flood.

[52] Genesis 11:10 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood:

• This means the middle son, Shem, was 98 years old during the flood. Do you see that now?
• We don’t know how much younger Ham was but we know he wasn’t a child.
• He was married. This is why the next part of Genesis Chapter 9 is just evil and wicked.
• We’ll continue in verse 20 of Genesis Chapter 9.

[53] Genesis 9:20-21 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

• If you remember, the ground was no longer cursed because of the sacrifices Noah offered to God.
• Noah offered those animal sacrifices as soon as he got off the ark. Ground was no longer cursed.
• It would make sense that Noah would become a farmer or a husbandmen.
• They didn’t have big factories where Noah could get a job. So he started farming.
• He plants a vineyard. He drinks of the wine of the vineyard and becomes drunken.
• Because he became drunken, he is laying naked within his tent.
• That’s a lesson for you to learn. Get drunk, and you might end up naked and bad things will happen.

[54] Genesis 19:32 Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

• The daughters of Lot gave Lot wine, he became drunk, and they laid with him. Nasty and sick.

[55] Genesis 19:36 Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.

[56] Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

[57] Proverbs 23:31-32 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

• Being drunk might take some of your cares away temporarily, but in the end, it will hurt.
• You will be deceived and bad things will happen. Never fails.

[58] Titus 2:2-3 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;

[59] Titus 2:4-5 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.

• Men and women both are to be sober. And that doesn’t just mean from alcohol. It means drugs too.
• It means illegal drugs, and it means prescription drugs. You are to be sober.
• If any alcohol or drug messes with your mind, and they do, you are to be sober.
• Then, you can love your wife, your husband, and your children the correct way.

Ham, The Son Of Noah, Was Evil And Wicked

What Ham does to his father Noah in Genesis Chapter 9 is not good. It’s not an act of love.

• Some sick and nasty people today would say, “It’s not bad because Ham loved his father Noah.”
• “He was just showing him love.” And yes, that’s what child molesters say today.
• “That’s just who I love, and it’s not wrong to love.” That’s not love.
• Love is following God’s commandments because God’s commandments are best for all. That’s love.
• What Ham does to Noah would have never would have happened if Noah didn’t get drunk with wine.
• But that also doesn’t give Ham the right to do what he did. There is no excuse for doing evil.
• A rapist could say, “But I loved her so much so I laid with her even though she didn’t want me to.”
• When you’re drunk, it’s a lot harder to give your consent to someone.
• And that someone can and will take advantage of you if they are evil. Ham was evil.

[60] Genesis 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

• You have to remember that Japheth, Shem, and Ham all lived a long time before the flood happened.
• They were around all the wickedness of man before the flood.
• Uncovering one’s nakedness within the Bible is lying with that person.
• There are endless arguments about what happened in Genesis Chapter 9.
• I believe the Bible is clear when you compare Scripture with Scripture.

[61] Leviticus 18:6 None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.

[62] Leviticus 18:7 The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness.

• There’s about 104 matches in 87 verses for the words naked and nakedness.
• When I studied through those, it’s pretty clear what Ham did to Noah.
• He didn’t just see his father laying there naked. He “SAW” his nakedness.

[63] Leviticus 18:19-20 Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. 20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her.

[64] Leviticus 20:21 And if a man shall take his brother’s wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother’s nakedness; they shall be childless.

• Its pretty clear that Ham uncovered Noah’s nakedness. He didn’t just look at Noah naked.

[65] Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!

• That sounds like Ham. He took advantage of his father’s drunkenness and looked upon his nakedness.
• It’s a shame to be naked. The Bible defines nakedness. Drinking alcohol leads to shame.
• The first time wine is ever mentioned in the Bible is with Noah and look at what happened. Not good.
• Ham does this wicked act with his own father, and then goes and tells his brothers.
• He’s proud of what he did. He had to go tell someone. Proud.
• Does that sound like any group out there today? Of course it does.
• Rainbows and pride in the same chapter. Now, does that make sense why they use a rainbow?
• They found it in Genesis Chapter 9.

[66] Genesis 9:23 And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness.

• No man, woman, or child wants to see their father’s nakedness.
• That should tell you how sick Ham was. Ham is the father of Canaan.
• That means Ham actually had a child named Canaan.
• Notice that the 2 older sons, Shem and Japheth, took a garment and covered Noah.
• They didn’t want to the nakedness of their father.

[67] Genesis 9:24 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.

• If Ham had only saw his father naked in the tent and then walked away and left, do you really think this would have been that big of a deal?
• Think about that. Noah awoke from his wine.
• That means he finally sobered up enough to realize what happened.
• “And knew what his younger son had done unto him.”

[68] Genesis 9:25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.

• Noah curses Canaan because of what Ham did. Ham is the father of Canaan or the Canaanites.
• Some people will say that this means Ham’s son, Canaan, must have had something to do with this.
• No, the Bible clearly says that Ham “SAW” Noah’s nakedness. Has nothing to do with Ham’s son.
• God does allow curses upon the children of the person who does evil and wicked things.
• This is seen all throughout the Bible. What’s the curse on Canaan?
• “A servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.” All of Ham’s descendants will serve the others.

Some people might say, “Well, this means all of Ham’s descendants are cursed and going to hell.”

• I must have missed that part. I missed it because the Bible never says that anywhere.
• You might have bad parents, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make it to heaven.
• For example, do you remember the name of one of the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ?

[69] Matthew 10:2-4 Now the names of the twelve apostles are these; The first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; 3 Philip, and Bartholomew; Thomas, and Matthew the publican; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus, whose surname was Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, who also betrayed him.

• If all Canaanites of all time were cursed and going to hell, what about Simon the Canaanite?
• We know that he went to heaven because Jesus clearly says that he was clean.
• Only Judas Iscariot didn’t make it to heaven because he didn’t believe on Jesus as “THE” Savior.
• Noah curses the descendants of Ham. They will serve their other brothers.

[70] Genesis 9:26-27 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

• The Canaanites are descendants of Ham, but that doesn’t mean they’re all bad. NOT AT ALL.
• Each individual has the choice whether or not to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Shem gets the greatest blessing there. Japheth gets a good blessing too.
• Canaan will serve both in Shem’s tents. Abraham is a descendant of Shem.

[71] Genesis 9:28-29 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

• Noah had a long life. 950 years. That means he actually lived 950 years just as the years we have today.
• At 500 years old, Noah started to have children. At 600 years old, the flood happened.
• At 950 years old, he died. All of this is important to understanding the entire Bible.
• False doctrine can be disproved with all of these facts from the Bible.
• That is the end of Genesis Chapter 9.
