[2] The title of the sermon today is “GENESIS CHAPTER 7.”
God Gives Noah Commands To Pack Up The Ark
- We’re going to go through Genesis Chapter 7 verse by verse today.
- Please turn there in your Bibles if you aren’t already there.
- At the end of Genesis Chapter 6, we see God giving Noah commands to pack up the ark.
- And we see Noah doing was God asks Him to do.
- Let’s start there in verse 1 of Chapter 7.
[3] Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
- This is a big verse here. Very important to understand.
- God tells Noah and all his house or family to come into the ark.
- Why? “FOR THEE HAVE I SEEN RIGHTEOUS BEFORE ME IN THIS GENERATION.”
- This means that NOAH only does God see “RIGHTEOUS” in the entire world.
- God’s going to destroy all the rest of the people living on the earth.
- God saves Noah’s family as well because they’re going to serve a purpose to replenish the earth.
BUT, Noah ALONE is seen righteous in God’s eyes. What does RIGHTEOUS mean?
- Does RIGHTEOUS mean saved? Or, does righteous mean SAVED and OBEYING God?
- We need to understand what being righteous means in God’s eyes.
- There’s 2 overall categories of people: SAVED and UNSAVED. One goes to heaven, one goes to hell.
- But, within the SAVED category, there’s 2 groups of people. One that OBEYS God and one that doesn’t.
- Let’s prove what “FOR THEE HAVE I SEEN RIGHTEOUS BEFORE ME” means when God says that in verse 1.
I want to look at these 3 groups of people:
- UNSAVED people are the first group. They have a life here on this earth. They can be destroyed in this life and will be destroyed in hell.
- SAVED people who don’t obey God are the second group. They have a life here on this earth. They can be destroyed in this life and will go to heaven when this life ends.
- SAVED people who obey God are the third group. They have a life here on this earth. They will not be destroyed in this life and will go to heaven WITH REWARDS when this life ends.
I want to show you that Noah is in that THIRD GROUP and is considered RIGHTEOUS in God’s eyes.
- Righteous means JUST and LAWFUL. Noah does his best to follow the law.
- Notice that Genesis 7:1 calls NOAH righteous. Then watch this in Genesis 6:9.
[4] Genesis 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
- We see that Noah is a just man and PERFECT in his generations. What’s that mean?
- We know that no one is perfect. We also know that the Bible tells us there is none righteous.
[5] Ecclesiastes 7:20 For there is not a just man upon earth, that doeth good, and sinneth not.
- So, there is no just man. Definition for JUST right there is one that does good at all times and sins not.
There Is No Man Righteous Enough To Enter Into Heaven
[6] Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
- We see that the Bible says there is no just man and there is no righteous man.
- But the Bible calls Noah just and perfect in Genesis 6:9. And righteous in Genesis 7:1.
- So, at first glance, the Bible appears to contradict itself. Same thing happens with JOB.
[7] Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.
- So this verse calls Job perfect and upright. Does that mean Noah and Job NEVER sinned?
[8] Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
- So obviously, everyone has sinned. Perfect, in the Bible, doesn’t mean SINLESS. What does it mean?
- We need to know this because Jesus HIMSELF commands us to be perfect.
[9] Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
- That’s Jesus speaking to us. How are we going to be perfect? What does this mean?
[10] Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
- God commands us in the New Testament to be perfect and asks Abram to be perfect.
- He wants us to be perfect. That’s pretty clear in the Bible.
[11] James 1:4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
- So we learn right there that PERFECT means being made whole. It says BE PERFECT AND ENTIRE.
- Being made whole is wanting nothing. Perfect means wanting nothing.
- To be perfect according to God’s definition, you first need to be SAVED.
- Then, you need to OBEY GOD and walk with God. You need to stay in fellowship with God.
- You can be saved and not obey God. You can do evil and wicked things while you’re saved.
- But instead, BE YE PERFECT. Be saved and walk with God as Noah did.
- Genesis 6:9 says that NOAH walked with God. That means He stayed in fellowship with God.
[12] 2 Kings 20:3 I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.
- To be perfect before God, be saved and DO WHAT HE SAYS. King Hezekiah did so.
[13] 2 Chronicles 31:20-21 And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God. 21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
- King Hezekiah was just and perfect using the Bible’s definition of perfect.
- Did all these perfect men sin? Of course they did. Noah sinned, but Noah did his best.
- Before we move on from what it means when it calls NOAH RIGHTEOUS, see this verse from Luke 1.
- Let’s learn more about John the Baptist’s parents in Luke Chapter 1.
[14] Luke 1:5-6 There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
- Notice what it says right there in verse 6.
- “They were both RIGHTEOUS before God.” And then it tells us EXACTLY what that means.
- The last part of verse 6 says: “WALKING IN ALL THE COMMANDMENTS AND ORDINANCES OF THE LORD.”
Saved And Following God’s Commandments
- The Bible calls Zacharias and Elisabeth “BLAMELESS.”
- In other words, they are SAVED and following God’s commandments.
- Did they sin? Of course they sinned. Zacharias didn’t believe what the angel Gabriel told him in person.
[15] Luke 1:20 And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.
- The words from this great angel Gabriel were coming from God. And Zacharias didn’t believe his words.
- So, of course he sinned. EVERY MAN and every WOMAN sins in this life in this body.
- The book of 1 John explains all of this perfectly.
- Remember that PERFECT means wanting nothing. You’re saved, and you have everything you need.
[16] 1 John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
- JOY isn’t full unless you’re SAVED and walking with God. This means doing what He asks you to do.
- He wants your joy to be full.
[17] 1 John 1:5-6 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
- You can be saved and disobey God, fall away from Him, and walk in darkness in this life.
- He will punish you and might even destroy you in this life. But you’re still going to heaven.
- So, how do you stay in fellowship with God? How do you walk with God like Noah did? Noah messed up.
- Noah sinned. So, how did He stay in fellowship with God?
[18] 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
- When you’re saved, this means you SOUL is saved. Your flesh still sins.
- But what that verse means is you’ll be cleansed from all sin. How does this happen? Watch this.
[19] 1 John 1:8-9 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- In your every day life, it says to confess your sins when you mess up.
- And what happens? HE IS FAITHFUL AND JUST TO FORGIVE US OUR SINS!!!
- He cleanses you from all unrighteousness. Do you remember how the Bible calls Noah and Job righteous?
- This simply means they were cleansed from ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS even in their every day life.
- Why? Because they continuously were trying to get better and confessing their sin.
- Job didn’t just confess his sin. He would give burnt offerings for his children because he loved them.
[20] Job 1:5 And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.
- So look, Noah and Job sinned. Zacaharias and Elisabeth sinned. I sin. You sin. We all sin.
[21] 1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
- In order for God to see you in this flesh and this life as righteous, you need to confess your sins to HIM.
- If you’re saved, you have eternal life.
- If you don’t confess your sins to God in this life, you’re going to heaven.
- But you won’t have fellowship with God because you’re not doing what He asks you to do.
If You Want To Fellowship With God, Follow His Commandments
And that’s being a rebellious son or daughter. Turn back to HIM NOW, confess your sins, try your best.
- And guess what? He’ll be right there waiting for you again. But do it now and stay in fellowship with HIM.
- Do right in this life. Do your best to sin not. BE YE PERFECT God says. Why is that? So you’re happy.
- So your joy is made full. God’s trying to get you to see that what He tells you to do is BEST FOR YOU.
- Let’s get back to Genesis Chapter 7 verse 1.
[22] Genesis 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.
- I realize I’m not getting through Chapter 7 very fast at the time, but I want you to see something else.
- I told you this is a BIG verse. Very important to understand.
- Out of the entire world, Noah is THE ONLY ONE who is SAVED AND IS DOING WHAT GOD SAYS.
- Were there other people in the entire world that were SAVED? Probably.
- But they weren’t doing what God asked them to do? So, look, we can fall into those same ways.
The point is this: Don’t compare yourself with other people.
- God didn’t compare other wicked people to less wicked people.
- Don’t say: “Well, I’m doing some bad things BUT I’m not as bad as him or her. They are really bad.”
- God doesn’t care. You compare yourself with what HE WANTS in the Bible.
- Noah is an example of that. He was the only one in the entire world.
- God doesn’t take an average and then choose people above average.
- He chose ONE with Noah out of the entire world. God doesn’t grade on a curve.
- So, use God’s standard that He sets to grade yourself. And don’t look at others.
Think of this: In Noah’s time, there was a person who was in second place.
- There was a person who was less wicked than the entire rest of the world.
- And guess what? It didn’t matter. God destroyed that person in second place too.
- Why? Because they weren’t doing what God asked them to do.
- In other words, you can be saved, not do what God asks, and He can destroy you in this life.
[23] Genesis 7:2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.
- So, there’s clean and unclean beasts in the Bible. Cattle are clean. Camels are unclean.
- Noah is going to bring 7 of each clean beast onto the ark. The male and HIS female.
- 2 unclean beasts will be brought onto the ark, the male and HIS female.
- So, why are there going to be 7 clean beasts? Are they going to be for food while Noah is on the ark?
- Why is Noah being commanded to bring 5 extra clean beasts of each type onto the ark?
Noah And His Family Didn’t Eat Meat On The Ark
False preachers will say, “Yes, the clean beasts were used for food while Noah and his family is on the ark.”
- The extra clean beasts weren’t being eaten before or during Noah’s time on the ark.
- Noah didn’t eat meat before the ark or while he was on the ark.
- Here’s the purpose of the extra clean beasts on the ark. We find it in the next chapter.
[24] Genesis 8:20 And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.
- So, the clean beasts were brought onto the ark so Noah could offer burnt offerings to God after the flood.
- Why was this important? Well, let’s see. We should thank Noah.
[25] Genesis 8:21-22 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
- Those burnt offerings were pretty important. Wouldn’t you say?
- The curse on the ground was lifted. We can grow things easier now.
- God will no longer kill every living thing on the earth.
- Day and night shall not cease. All because God smelled a sweet savour from Noah’s burnt offerings.
- How do we know that Noah wasn’t eating these clean animals on the ark?
- Remember, we’re in Genesis Chapter 7. I’ll show you where God commands us to eat plants and seeds.
- And then I’ll show you where God says we can now eat meat.
[26] Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
- So, that’s Genesis Chapter 1. Where does God say we can eat meat? Let’s see.
[27] Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.
- And remember, we’re in Genesis Chapter 7.
- Noah offers burnt offerings in Genesis Chapter 8.
- Then God says that every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you as well as the green herb.
- For offerings to God, though, He wanted only the clean beasts.
- Food, though, as long as it moves it’s food. That’s what God says right there.
- Then later, God implements rules for the meat the children of Israel can eat. But we’re not there yet.
- Let’s go back to Genesis Chapter 7 and see what else is getting on the ark. Verse 3.
[28] Genesis 7:3 Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.
- Birds of the air. Seven of each. Male and female. Why?
- “TO KEEP SEED ALIVE UPON THE FACE OF ALL THE EARTH.”
- Birds carry seed all over the earth. They keep the seed alive.
- That’s pretty neat that birds were created to keep everything growing all over the earth.
[29] Genesis 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
- Noah has 7 days to get everything packed onto the ark.
- Then, God will cause it to rain for 40 days and 40 nights.
- Every living substance will be destroyed from off the face of the EARTH. Notice is says EARTH.
- Before we go any further, I want you to understand what God means when He says EARTH.
[30] Genesis 1:10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.
- So the dry land is called EARTH. With that in mind, let’s continue in verse 5.
[31] Genesis 7:5-6 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him. 6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the flood of waters was upon the earth.
- Noah obeyed God. Noah believed God. Noah feared God. Noah was 600 years old when he got on the ark.
- Hebrews chapter 11 tells us a little more about Noah and the ark.
[32] Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
- So Noah was obviously saved through FAITH. His life on earth was saved and he was saved from hell.
- You’re saved the same way. FAITH SAVES. Nothing else saves you.
Get In The Ark, Noah!
[33] Genesis 7:7 And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.
- They go into the ark because of the water. It’s raining and starting to flood. GET IN THE ARK.
- How many people go into the ark? 1) Noah, 2) his wife, 3) Shem, 4) his wife, 5) Ham, 6) his wife, 7) Japheth, 8) his wife.
[34] Genesis 7:8-9 Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth, 9 There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.
- You have 8 humans on the ark and lots of living creatures.
- What living creatures on the ark? As we continue to read, we’ll find out.
[35] Genesis 7:10 And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.
- Now, the ark is all loaded up and 7 days later the waters of the flood were upon the EARTH.
- God’s going to give us more details now on what happened.
[36] Genesis 7:11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
- So, on 2/17/600 of Noah’s life, the rain started and the fountains of the deep began flowing.
- So, the flood wasn’t just from rain above. It was also flowing from below too.
- There’s water under the ground.
- Notice that Noah started loading the ark on 2/10/600 (tenth of the month).
- The rain started on the 2/17/600 (seventeenth of the month).
[37] Genesis 7:12 And the rain was upon the earth forty days and forty nights.
- If we add 40 days and nights to 2/17/600, we see the rain lasted until 3/27/600.
- We get all of this timing for the flood from the details in the Bible. We get more details in Chapter 8.
- But, let’s continue in Chapter 7 for now.
[38] Genesis 7:13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
- In the same DAY that the waters began, Noah and all his family entered into the ark.
- They were finished loading up, the waters started, Noah and his family get on the ark.
- The wrath begins and the floods increase ONCE Noah and his family are safe on the ark.
That’s a picture of the Day of the Lord, the Rapture occurs, then God’s wrath begins.
- Same thing with Lot and God destroying Sodom, Gomorrah, and the other wicked cities.
- God saves HIS PEOPLE then pours out HIS WRATH on the others.
What Animals Get On The Ark?
Let’s see what gets on the ark in terms of animals.
- Do fish, whales, dolphins, and sharks get on the ark?
- Pay close attention to what the Bible says here.
[39] Genesis 7:14-16 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort. 15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
- Every BEAST, CATTLE, CREEPING THING upon THE EARTH. This is talking about land animals.
- The Bible makes a clear distinction between sea animals and land animals.
- The land animals are called BEASTS when they’re created in Genesis Chapter 1.
[40] Genesis 1:24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.
- The land animals are coming forth from the EARTH.
- And then in Genesis 7:14, we see every fowl and every bird of every sort.
- They all went into the ark on their own. It doesn’t mention fish flopping from the sea into the ark.
- They don’t walk on the land. Whales don’t walk. Dolphins don’t walk. They didn’t flop into the ark.
- Obviously, a flood wouldn’t destroy fish, whales, dolphins, and sharks. They would love it.
- More room to swim around. The sea creatures weren’t destroyed in the flood.
- Notice what it says in Genesis 7 verse 16 there at the end.
[41] Genesis 7:16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.
- God SHUT Noah and everything in the ark. God sealed it up. God protected them.
- God was there. He shut up the ark and ensured they were safe.
[42] Genesis 7:17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.
- Notice that the flood was 40 days upon the earth. Rain and ground water flowed for 40 days.
- It was enough to raise the ark up above the earth.
[43] Genesis 7:18 And the waters prevailed, and were increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters.
- So now there’s enough water that the ark is moving upon the face of the waters.
- The earth is all under the water now and the ark is up and moving.
[44] Genesis 7:19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.
- The waters continue to increase. All the hills and mountains are now covered completely.
[45] Genesis 7:20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
- The water was 15 cubits above the tallest mountains.
- That’s about 22-1/2 feet above the tallest mountains. That’s a lot of water.
- You can see how nothing on EARTH survived the flood.
- If someone else had a boat ready, they didn’t have food prepared like Noah did.
- Remember, Noah had years to prepare. God told Him the flood was coming.
Noah Believed God And Prepared The Ark
He built the ark. He prepared. Other people weren’t prepared.
- Some Jews teach that Og, the King of Bashan, also survived and ate food from the ark.
- There’s movies with that same type of trash being taught. The Bible doesn’t say that.
- Watch out for all the fairy tales about the Bible out there. TRUST THE BIBLE ALONE.
- Only 8 people were saved. No one else made it. Was that fair? Yes it was.
- God gave people time to repent while Noah was building the ark. God is patient.
[46] 1 Peter 3:20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
- God patiently waited for people to come back to Him. Didn’t happen. Flood happened instead.
- Why did the flood happen?
[47] Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
- Remember, Noah is the only saved person OBEYING GOD. Our world is heading that direction.
- God warns us over and over again in the Bible to do what He says.
- If not, He will destroy us. You have a chance starting today to be like Noah. To be like Job.
- To be like Moses, Abraham, Joshua, Paul, John. Don’t you want to be seen as righteous and just by God?
- We MUST follow God’s commandments.
[48] Genesis 7:21-22 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: 22 All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.
- Right there at the end of verse 22 we see that it’s not talking about sea life.
- It says, “OF ALL THAT WAS IN THE DRY LAND, DIED.” So the flood didn’t destroy the sea creatures.
- Shrimp made it. I’m glad. I love shrimp. Dolphins made it. No sea life was destroyed.
- Everything else that breathed the BREATH OF LIFE, died.
[49] Genesis 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
- The Bible tells us that ONLY they that were with Noah in the ark SURVIVED.
- These false preachers and false religions tell other stories. The BIBLE says ONLY the people on the ark.
- These were the 8 people who were shut into the ark from the beginning of the flood. They were saved.
- Remember, the LORD SHUT THEM IN. But listen to this story from the JEWISH TARGUM or their BIBLE.
[50]
“Og came, who was delivered from the men that died at the flood; and he rode upon the ark, and he had a covering upon his head, and was fed with the food of Noah; but not for his worthiness was he delivered, but that the inhabitants of the world might see the power of the Lord.”
[51]
“And Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark except Og, king of Bashan, who sat on a certain piece of wood which belonged to the scaffolding of the ark, and he swore to Noah, and his sons, that he would be their servant for ever. What did Noah do? he bored an hole in the ark, and every day reached out food to him, and he remained alive.”
- This is serious stuff. People add to the Bible all the time. Preachers all around here do it every Sunday.
- They change the word of God, add stories to it, pick and choose what they want for their gain.
- It’s sick and it’s nasty. TV preachers are the worst. They do it for gain. That’s all. It’s a good story.
- “NOAH BORED A HOLE IN THE ARK SO HE COULD FEED SOME WICKED MAN!!!” What a joke.
- And then here’s another story for you.
- The Arabians say that 80 persons together with Noah entered into the ark.
- JORHAM, their father, was there on the ark and saved. Where’s the Bible say that?
Noah And The Ark Is A Picture Of Salvation
So, always keep this in mind when you think about the ark.
- The ark is a picture of salvation. Noah was saved because he believed God and got on that ark.
- Only 8 people in the entire world entered into that ark and were saved from death in this life.
- Do you know what Scripture this matches in the New Testament?
[52] Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
- Noah and his family entered into that ark in the ONE DOOR that it had.
- Compared to the world, that door on the ark was little.
- “ENTER YE IN AT THE STRAIGHT GATE!!!”
- “For wide is the gate and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction.”
- Do more go onto the ark, the straight gate? Or do more go into the world, the wide gate?
- The ways of this world lead to destruction. Instead, take the straight gate. Enter into THE DOOR of the ark.
- And what’s the door of the ark represent?
[53] John 10:7-9 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
- JESUS CHRIST IS THE DOOR to salvation. There is no other way.
- You can’t work your way to heaven through your own righteousness or goodness.
- JESUS IS THE ONLY WAY. That’s why there’s only one door on that ark.
- GOD saved them. They entered the door. God sealed that door shut. They were saved from the flood.
[54] John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
- Again, JESUS IS THE WAY. He is the truth. He is the life. HE IS THE WORD OF GOD.
- That’s why we study the Bible. God wrote the Bible for us. He gave it to us to learn.
- We don’t just wing it here. We use the Bible as the foundation for this CHURCH.
- That’s what God wanted. That’s why we do it this way.
[55] 2 Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
- Do you see : “THAT THE MAN OF GOD MAY BE PERFECT.”
- Just like we learned in the beginning sermon: PERFECT is wanting nothing.
- You’re SAVED, and you’re OBEYING God. Your joy will be full. You won’t want anything.
- You might have been thinking before we began this sermon.
- “Ah, I don’t want to hear about Genesis Chapter 7.”
- You should LOVE ALL PARTS OF THE BIBLE and understand that we learn from every chapter.
- Let’s finish up Genesis Chapter 7 with the final verse.
[56] Genesis 7:24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
- In the Bible, one month is 30 days. We know this from the Book of Genesis.
- All of this information about the flood tells us that ONE MONTH is always 30 days.
- The waters prevailed upon the earth for 150 days. They were finally decreasing after 150 days.
- That’s 5 months in which the waters prevailed on earth. They didn’t decrease for 5 months.
- 30 days x 5 months = 150 days.
The Waters From The Flood Didn’t Decrease For 5 Months
Let’s prove this and look at the timing of the flood.
- Genesis 7:11 tells us that the flood started on 2/17/600 of Noah’s life (in his 600th year of life).
- It rained for 40 days and 40 nights. This would be 3/27/600.
- 150 days after 2/17/600 would be 5 months later or 7/17/600.
- That means the waters no longer prevailed on earth when it came to 7/17/600.
- We go to the next chapter, Genesis Chapter 8, to find this truth that every month is 30 days.
[57] Genesis 8:3-4 And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.
- Then we see that the waters started to decrease at that point in time and that also took time.
- We see that the ARK is now resting on the mountains of Ararat.
- The bottom of the ark is hitting the mountains.
[58] Genesis 8:5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.
- So, on 10/1/600 of Noah’s life, the waters were still decreasing and the tops of the mountains were seen.
- That’s about 7-1/2 months since the rain and waters started. It’s finally decreasing.
- When were the waters were finally off the face of the earth?
[59] Genesis 8:13 And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.
- The ground wasn’t covered with water any more. But the earth wasn’t completely dry.
- Most likely, it was very muddy at this time.
- And notice when this is happening in verse 13 there. First month, first day, 601st year of Noah’s life.
- Remember, the rain began on 2/17/600 of Noah’s life. So, it hasn’t yet been a year.
- But look, Noah isn’t off the ark yet. God doesn’t tell him to get off the ark yet.
- The earth wasn’t completely dried at this time. You’d probably sink in the mud.
- Think of all the water and how muddy the entire earth would be.
- It was dry ground that was flooded for almost a year.
[60] Genesis 8:14-16 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. 15 And God spake unto Noah, saying, 16 Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.
- So now it’s 2/27/601 and the earth is finally dried up.
- Now, Noah can get off the ark. This is 370 days since the flood began.
- Or, 1 year and 10 days later.
- So Noah, his family, and the animals weren’t on the ark for 40 days and 40 nights.
- They were on the ark for over a year.
- I hope this sermon clears many things up for you today.
- We’ll continue learning in the Book of Genesis, and you’ve got a good start into Chapter 8 today.
Let’s pray.
