So today I am going to be doing a verse by verse lesson on Psalm 110. So let’s get right to it.
Psalm 110:1 The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.
God is saying this to Jesus: “He will make His enemies Jesus’ footstool.” We see the exact same thing in the New Testament.
Acts 2:34-35 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.
Now let’s move onto the next verse.
Psalm 110:2 The Lord shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.
So it says the Lord will send a rod of strength out of Zion. This is Jesus. Jesus is the rod of strength.
Psalm 110:3 Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning: thou hast the dew of thy youth.
This is saying that the people will be willing in the day of power, in the holiness from the womb.
This is talking about Jesus because it says holiness of the womb. Jesus is the holy. This is talking about the birth of Jesus Christ!
In the next verse, there is more proof that these Scriptures are talking about Jesus.
Psalm 110:4 The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
In the Bible, we see repetition of Scripture. The Old Testament and the New Testament are connected throughout. This is why it so ridiculous that some preachers will say that we don’t need the Old Testament.
Hebrews Chapter 5 repeats what we see in Psalm Chapter 110. In Hebrews 5:5-6, we see the exact same thing about Jesus being in the order Melchizedek.
Hebrews 5:5-6 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee. 6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Now that we see this and understand the Scriptures are speaking of Jesus Christ, let’s move onto the next verses.
Psalm 110:5-6 The Lord at thy right hand shall strike through kings in the day of his wrath. 6 He shall judge among the heathen, he shall fill the places with the dead bodies; he shall wound the heads over many countries.
God is saying He will strike through kings when his wrath comes. In verse six of Psalm Chapter 110, He says that He will judge among the heathen. The heathen here is referring to someone who does not trust Jesus as their Savior.
These are also called “simple ones” in the Bible. We were all heathen once. We were all simple ones once. But when we believe and trust in Jesus Christ as the Christ and Savior of the world, we become wise. We are no longer heathen but have become children of God.
God says He will kill so many people that it will be filled with dead bodies. These are all the people who won’t put 100% of their trust on Jesus Christ as “THE ONE AND ONLY” Savior.
Let’s get to the last verse.
Psalm 110:7 He shall drink of the brook in the way: therefore shall he lift up the head.
He’s going to drink from a brook and lift up His head. Jesus died on the cross. He was lifted up on the cross. He died, His soul went to hell, and He arose from the dead. He is the life. He is the drink that we need to live forever.
All you have to do is believe on Him as HE IS THE ONE that can save you. You will drink of the brook in the way, a good brook, and you will lift up your head forever through Jesus Christ. He is amazing, and He is my Savior.
I hope this has helped you out today, and I’ll see you next time. Please let me know if I can answer any questions you might have.
