Did Church Only Exist In The New Testament?
Many false preachers will say that God’s church only existed in the New Testament.
They will say that the word church only shows up in the New Testament so there was no church in the Old Testament.
The Bible itself disproves that lie quickly and clearly:
Acts 7:37-40 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. 38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: 39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, 40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.
A church is a congregation of believers. Believers congregate together and this forms a church. It’s simply a gathering together of believers.
If you search the Old Testament for the word congregation, you’ll find 367 matches in 334 verses.
The Book of Acts teaches us that Moses was in the church in the wilderness so we know the church wasn’t absent in the Old Testament.
