🎥 Baptist Bold: Ask a Pastor
📅 Episode 7 – Thursday: Doctrine Day
Question: “What Does It Mean to Be Born Again?”
🎬 Intro Script:
Welcome to Baptist Bold: Ask a Pastor—where truth isn’t filtered, and the Bible has the final word. I’m Pastor Joshua Tapp from True Words Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Let’s get into today’s question…
📖 Answer:
You’ve heard the phrase. You’ve seen it on signs. But most people don’t actually know what born again means.
It’s not emotional. It’s not mystical. It’s not about joining a church.
To be born again means to be made alive by God the moment you believe the Gospel.
1. Jesus Said It’s the Only Way to Heaven
📖 John 3:3 — “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
You were born once physically—but your spirit was dead. That’s why you need a second birth—a spiritual one.
2. Being Born Again Is Not Turning Over a New Leaf
📖 Titus 3:5 — “Not by works of righteousness which we have done…”
Being born again doesn’t mean “getting serious about God” or quitting sin. It’s not about doing better—it’s about being made new.
3. The New Birth Happens When You Believe the Gospel
📖 John 1:12–13 — “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God… which were born… of God.”
📖 1 Peter 1:23 — “Being born again… by the word of God…”
The second you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, you’re born again by the Word and by the Spirit.
4. The New Birth Is Instant and Irreversible
It’s not a process. It’s not a contract. It’s a birth.
You don’t slowly get born. You don’t get unborn. When you’re born again, you’re forever a child of God.
📖 Galatians 4:6–7 — “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts…”
5. Born Again People Still Sin—But They’re Still Saved
📖 1 John 3:9 — “Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin…”
That doesn’t mean you never sin again—it means your new nature doesn’t sin. Your flesh will still fail, but your born-again spirit is sealed, clean, and eternal.
🎯 Bottom Line:
You’re not saved by church attendance, by good behavior, or by feelings.
You’re saved—and born again—the moment you believe the Gospel.
📖 Acts 16:31 — “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”
No altar call. No commitment. Just faith in Jesus—and a brand new life is born inside you.
