Introduction: Not the Typical Mother’s Day Message

Most churches today will preach Proverbs 31 and hand out roses. We are handing out roses but we aren’t teaching Proverbs 31 today. Here in West Louisville, we need more than sentiment and emotion—we need strength. We need fire. We need women of God who are ready to go to war spiritually.

Let me say that again: “We need women of God who are ready to go to war spiritually.”

This isn’t a soft message. This is about a woman who didn’t bake bread for the enemy—she drove a nail through his head.

Let me say that again. This isn’t a soft message today. This is about an awesome woman—an absolute warrior for God. And I want the women in here–the young women, the young ladies, the young girls, the daughters, and their mothers to be absolute spiritual warriors for God.

I want you to remember the story of this woman today. Her name was Jael, J-A-E-L. She wasn’t an Israelite. She was the wife of a Kenite. The Kenites were typically friends with the Israelites. Jael wasn’t in the army. And the Bible doesn’t tell us she had children.

But she was a woman who stood for truth when it mattered most. And God blessed her above all women in the tent.

Point 1: God Prophesied a Woman Would Crush the Enemy

In the very first prophecy in the Bible, God declared that a woman would be instrumental in Satan’s defeat.

Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

That wasn’t said to Adam. That was said to the serpent. God told the devil, “You started this with a woman—and I’m going to end it with one.” I want you to understand how special women are to God and to men. My wife is so special to me. I have four daughters. They are so special to me. I love them greatly.

If anyone every tries to hurt them, I’m going to be like Abraham. An army with kings took Abraham’s nephew Lot. Do you know what Abraham did? He armed his trained servants, by night, and smote them. Let me say it again. He armed his trained servants by night and smote them.

You mess with my wife, my kids, Nathan’s wife, Nathan’s kids, my Mom, my wife’s sister, my wife’s Mom, our children in here – any of them, our women in here, I’m coming for you and it will be at night. And you better keep an eye open. And I’m not joking. God’s people aren’t weak, soft, pushovers. If that’s what you think you got here, you better think again.

We will respond, and we will defend. We have armed servants here. I’m one of them. We don’t go after people until you come for us. Remember that.

And the women here aren’t weak. The women we have here are strong in many different ways. In ways, they are stronger and have more power than men. I’m going to show you that today in the Bible.

God loves women. Jesus appeared first to a woman and then to more women after he arose from the dead. Women are God’s secret weapon. Make sure you hear this today. We honor mother’s and women today because God does.

Look again at that verse. A mother, a woman, is going to play an important part in the final defeat of Satan, our enemy.

Satan fears godly women. That’s why he’s always attacking them:

  • In Egypt, Pharaoh tried to kill the Hebrew sons. Pharaoh commanded the women, the midwives, to kill all the baby boys that were being born. They feared God so they didn’t do it. They said, “The Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively.” Strong, quick, powerful women. God fearing women. A woman who fears God is so much more powerful than a wicked king.
  • In Bethlehem, Herod murdered the infants. The mothers loved those children. Rocking the newborns to bed one night and then Herod’s men killing them the next day. The mothers wept and cried. And you know what? God will avenge them. Herod’s dead. Remember that. Don’t go after children. God will come for you.
  • In our world today, abortion is celebrated and motherhood is mocked. Abortion is murder. Don’t allow the world to deceive you. Being a mother is mocked but it’s one of the most important jobs in the Bible. That’s why the world mocks mothers.

Satan is always attacking women. But when Satan sees a woman walking with God—he knows he’s in trouble. Big, big trouble. I want all of you women in here, all the girls, all the teenagers, all the young women to hear this today. You must be a strong and powerful woman of God. Why is Satan afraid of a woman walking with God?

Because God promised that through a woman’s seed, his head would be crushed. And God’s promises are true. Women crush the enemy. A woman gave birth to the man of war who will crush Satan.

Point 2: Jael Wasn’t in the Army—But She Won the War

Let’s look at Judges 4.

The Israelites were under heavy oppression from King Jabin. His general, Sisera, had 900 iron chariots—an unbeatable force.

God told Deborah, the prophetess, to send Barak to battle. But Barak, a man, was hesitant. He said he wouldn’t go unless Deborah went with him.

So Deborah gave him a prophecy:

Judges 4:9
And she said, I will surely go with thee: notwithstanding the journey that thou takest shall not be for thine honour; for the LORD shall sell Sisera into the hand of a woman. And Deborah arose, and went with Barak to Kedesh.

Most assumed it would be Deborah. But God had someone else in mind—Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite.

Sisera fled from battle, exhausted. He came to Jael’s tent. She welcomed him in, covered him with a blanket, and gave him milk.

But once he fell asleep, she picked up a tent nail and a hammer—and nailed his head to the ground. She smote the nail into his temples because he was the enemy of God. Hey, listen men in here and out there, you don’t want to be the enemy of God. God might just use a woman to take you out. Jael was used by God. She is a warrior for God’s army.

She wasn’t a soldier. She wasn’t a leader. She wasn’t a prophetess. She was a mighty woman.

She had courage, discernment, and bold obedience to God. She wasn’t waiting for a title—she just did what needed to be done.

And the Bible says:

Judges 5:24
Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

Point 3: God Uses Faithful Women to Deliver Nations

Throughout Scripture, we see God using women in critical, history-shaping ways:

  • Jochebed hid Moses and defied Pharaoh. Jochebed was the mother of Moses, and at a time when Pharaoh commanded that all Hebrew baby boys be thrown into the Nile, she defied that wicked law.

She saw that her son was “a goodly child” and hid him for three months, risking her life to protect his. When she could no longer hide him, she built an ark of bulrushes, placed him in the river, and trusted God to do what she couldn’t.

Her courage saved a deliverer, and her faith raised a prophet. Without Jochebed’s defiance, there would be no Exodus.

  • Hannah wept and vowed until she birthed a prophet. Hannah was a barren woman with a broken heart, mocked by her rival and misunderstood even by the priest. But instead of growing bitter, she poured out her soul to God, weeping and vowing that if the Lord gave her a son, she would give him back to the Lord.

God honored her faith, and she gave birth to Samuel, one of the greatest prophets in Israel’s history. Hannah didn’t just pray for a child—she birthed a legacy through surrender.

  • Esther stood before a king and stopped a genocide. Esther was a young Jewish woman in a foreign land, chosen to be queen—but her real purpose was far greater than royalty. When a decree went out to exterminate her people, she risked her life, uninvited, to approach the king.

With wisdom, fasting, and courage, she exposed Haman’s wicked plot and stopped a genocide. She wasn’t raised to be a hero—but when the moment came, she stepped up and saved a nation “for such a time as this.” Courage. Strength. Pure power from God.Don’t ever let someone tell you God doesn’t use women for His glory. He does.

  • Mary, a virgin of no reputation, bore the Messiah. Mary was a humble virgin girl from Nazareth, with no wealth, title, or status—yet she was chosen by God to carry the Savior of the world. When told she would conceive by the Holy Ghost, she didn’t question God’s power—she surrendered to His will.

Her simple words, “Be it unto me according to thy word,” opened the door for the birth of Jesus Christ. Mary didn’t just carry a child—she carried the hope of all mankind, and she did it with faith, purity, and quiet strength. An amazing woman. God is showing us how much he loves women and mothers. The Savior was born of a woman.

And though we don’t know if Jael ever had children, her actions brought about deliverance for an entire nation.

Here’s the truth:

You don’t have to be a mother to be used like one. You can be a spiritual mother, a warrior for truth, a protector of the home, and a defender of the innocent.

We have women here that will fight you to the death for one of these little ones in here. And God is with them so you know who wins? The women. Women are usually in the fight first. I’ve seen it before. My wife is faster to get to the children than I am.

Mess with a child and the women like Jael are coming for you. And right afterwards, I’ll be there. You better run if you think you’re going to hurt the children here. And run fast. Remember the stake through the head and the head fastened to the ground.

Women in here and out there: God isn’t looking at your resume. He’s looking at your resolve. Decide now that you’ll be a warrior woman for God.

Point 4: Your Home Is a Warzone—Pick Up Your Hammer

The enemy is still slipping into tents today.

He’s coming into homes through music, media, confusion, compromise, and false doctrine.

And too many believers are giving him a blanket and a bottle of milk instead of picking up the hammer.

Ladies, you may not preach from the pulpit, but you preach in your home. You are to teach your own children at home. God says so. Preach the truth in your home and never stop.

You shape hearts. You cast down imaginations. You stop the lies. You teach your children the truth. You stop the LGBTQ+ lies and deceptions. You get God into the heart of your children.

You don’t need a spear—you’ve got prayer, truth, and discernment.

Like Jael, you can bring down strongholds by simply refusing to let the enemy rest in your presence. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Let me say it again with authority and you can say it with me loudly. “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Listen, get the trash out of your homes. Take out the trash. The nasty TV shows need to be gone. The corrupted movies gone. Men who aren’t your husband need to go. Do things God’s way. Children, obey your mother. Do you hear me, children? Obey your mother. God is on her side. Do what she says. Don’t talk back to her. Help her. Love her. Be good to her.

Point 5: Mary—A Woman Who Crushed the Enemy with Her Yes

Luke 1:38
Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word.

Mary didn’t carry a weapon—she carried obedience. That’s what we need here. Women who are obedient to the word of God. Mary said, “Be it unto me according to thy word.”

She didn’t crush Satan with steel—but she gave birth to the One who would.

Jesus Christ, born of a woman, went to the cross and fulfilled Genesis 3:15:

The seed of the woman crushed the head of the serpent. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ! A woman gave birth to our Savior who is God in the flesh. And listen, if Jesus crushed the head of the serpent, you don’t want to be on the serpent’s side. If you want to be evil, he’ll crush your head too. Sisera knows this. His head got fastened to the ground. Dead.

Don’t be evil. Get on God’s side today before it’s too late. Get the evil out of your head and out of your heart.

God’s plan started in Genesis, continued through Jael, and culminated at Calvary. Jesus died and his soul was not left in hell. Death and hell is the price Jesus paid for us. Do you know what happened? Jesus arose from the dead. He conquered death and hell. Death and hell can’t hold the Lord Jesus Christ – King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Point 6: Women Are Often God’s Secret Weapon

Let me say this loud and clear—God has always used women as His secret weapon.

When men are scared…
When leaders fail…
When the world is dark…

God often sends a woman no one expects.

  • Jael didn’t wear armor—but she ended the war.
  • Esther wasn’t a soldier—but she stopped a genocide.
  • Hannah wasn’t known—but she birthed a prophet.
  • Mary was a poor girl—but she brought forth the Messiah.
  • The woman at the well was rejected—but she evangelized her city.
  • The woman with the alabaster box was despised—but Jesus said she’d be remembered forever.

God doesn’t just use men on platforms. He uses women in tents, in tears, in travail, and in truth.

And in Judges 9, an unnamed woman dropped a millstone from a tower and crushed Abimelech’s skull, bringing God’s justice when no one else could.

She had no title. No sword. No name even recorded.

But she had courage, positioning, and obedience—and God used her to bring down a king.

When God wants to shake things up—He doesn’t always send an army. Sometimes, He sends a woman with a hammer, a stone, or a surrendered heart that says I’ll do it.

Conclusion: God Is Still Using Women to Crush the Enemy

Maybe you’re not a mother. Maybe you are—and you feel worn out. Maybe you feel invisible, broken, or unqualified. Well, I see you here today trying and putting forth an effort to do better. God sees you.

And He has a word for you today:

You are not overlooked. You are a weapon. You are a warrior. You are a woman of God.

Make sure you hear that. He loves you. He gave you life. He wants you to use it for Him, and He will lift you up.

You don’t need a title. You don’t need applause.

You just need the courage to stand at the tent door and say:

“If the enemy comes near my house—I will fight.” And the enemy is there. I can see him out there. And it’s time to step up and fight.

How do you do that? You get here to church every time we’re open. You stick with us. We’ll teach you. We’ll show you. And you’ll have the best friends you’ve always wanted. I’m with you. I’m for you. And the other people here are too. Stick with us. We’ll follow Jesus Christ together.

Final Scripture and Blessing

Judges 5:24
Blessed above women shall Jael the wife of Heber the Kenite be, blessed shall she be above women in the tent.

We honor every woman in this church—Not just with flowers, but with faith.

Not just with applause, but with purpose.

Not just as mothers—but as mighty women of war.

When the enemy comes near—pick up your hammer. And swing.

We love you. Remember that. We’re here for you. God loves you. God is here for you. He wants you to know that. He put this church here in West Louisville for you. Most cities don’t have a church like this one. So God is showing you today that He loves you. Stick with us.

I told you that you’ve never heard a Mother’s Day message like this one. Be strong. Be powerful. And the enemies of God who are out there – remember Jael and that tent nail and the hammer. You don’t want it to come for you. Don’t hit our women. Don’t hit our children. Don’t hurt our women. Don’t hurt our children. God says, “Vengeance is mine. I will repay saith the Lord.”
