Romans 1:1 – 1:18

As you know, this is a church of and for the Lord Jesus Christ. Our number one job here is to go out into the surrounding areas and preach the Gospel.

Jesus commanded us to do this as a church, and as long as I am here, we will do this. And we will not stop. We will do our absolute best, as a church, to get people out there visiting people and soul winning daily.

Revelation 2:4-5
Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.  5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

We Must Do The First Works of Preaching the Gospel

This was Jesus speaking to the church at Ephesus. The first love and first works is preaching the Gospel and getting people saved. Jesus came and died for us so that we can be saved. He wants people saved. He gave us that job.

If we don’t do that job, Jesus will remove thy candlestick He says. What does that mean?

Revelation 1:20
The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches.

A candlestick is a church of Jesus Christ. Jesus says that He will remove this church if we won’t do the first works or go out and preach the Gospel.

Romans 10:13-15
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?  15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

The Bible commands us to go out there. We use our feet to do that. For those of you who can’t do that, you can pray for us as this is highly, highly important. We need your prayers. If you aren’t yet ready to go out there with us, please pray for us.

The Bibles says, “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

Hey, I promise you right now, there’s nothing better than what you are bringing to people when you go out there and preach the Gospel.

They can receive everlasting life in a moment. In just 5, 10, 15 minutes, I can go right down the road from here and find someone that will receive everlasting life today. I need your help with that. There are people ready to be saved all over the place out here.

God Bless My Friend Mike Murphy and His Family

My good friend, Mike Murphy, from Utah, was able to preach the Gospel many times while he was here. He was able to see many people saved that day because he came and preached the Gospel. May God bless him greatly. He loved it out here. He would love to have a place like this in his area.

You have that place. It’s here in West Louisville. It’s here in Park Hill. You don’t have to go anywhere else. There are hundreds and hundreds of people who need salvation around here.

We went around a couple of blocks before church Thursday night and saw seven salvations. Seven people received everlasting life through the Lord Jesus Christ. When their body dies in the future, their soul is going straight to heaven.

Imagine you going out there, preaching the Gospel, getting souls saved, praising the Lord along the way, sowing tears, caring for the people, rejoicing with them as they get saved forever, and then laying your head down at night knowing you gave it your all for the Lord that day.

You will sleep well. God will take care of His soul winners. God will bless you. God will reward you. God will love you more and more.

Psalm 126:5-6
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.  6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

You will have great joy.

Luke 15:6-7
And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.  7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

God has given us the greatest job on this planet. And that job is preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Now, let’s look at Romans Chapter 1. We know that we are commanded to preach the Gospel.

In order to do that, we must be ready to preach the Gospel. For example, if I sent you to someone’s house right now that wanted to hear the Gospel, would you be ready to go and know exactly what to do and say?

Romans 1:15-16
So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the gospel to you that are at Rome also.  16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

“I Am Ready To Preach the Gospel”

Paul says, “I AM READY TO PREACH THE GOSPEL.”

He says, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth.”

Do you realize the power you have in preaching the Gospel?

It is the power of God unto salvation. All you have to do is go out there and preach the Gospel to someone. That someone will be saved forever if they believe what God says in the Bible. It’s His good news. You bring good news to the people out there who need hope.

I needed hope. And then I heard the Gospel. And now I’m going to heaven no matter what.

I don’t deserve it. But God loved me so He made sure I heard the Gospel. And I believed. And the power of God saved me forever.

Understand what you’re taking with you. When you’re ready to preach the Gospel, you have the power of God with you. Know that. Understand that. God’s words are power. They are life.

Proverbs 4:20-22
My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.  21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.  22 For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.

God’s words are LIFE unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh. You are bringing life to the people out there. You are brining health to them. You’ve got something good for them.

So, we must be ready to preach the Gospel.

We’re Here To Teach You So You Can Be Ready To Preach The Gospel

And that’s why I’m here. That’s why Nathan is here. We are here to teach you how to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gospel means good news. In order to be ready to preach the Gospel, we need a Bible ready. We don’t have any rules for what you wear. I wear a suit, and I do believe that helps to win more souls to Jesus Christ.

If you’re a man, and you don’t have a nice suit to wear out soul winning with us, and you want one for soul winning, ask me. I’ll get you a new suit.

You should have your King James Bible with you. I wear a suit, and I try to always have my New Testament in my jacket pocket. I also have invitations to church. This is how we get the conversation started. We use the invitations.

Again, have your Bible and invitations to church.

Now, some people mark in their Bible the verses they want to use during the Gospel. For example, they might start with Romans 3:23. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Then they might want to go to Romans 6:23 next. So, within their Bible, right beside Romans 3:23, they write Romans 6:23. So, they go to Romans 3:23, then Romans 6:23, and then beside Romans 6:23, they write the next verse. And so on, until they are finished with the Gospel verses.

So, in order to be ready to preach the Gospel from your Bible, you should have your Bible marked. Once you’ve given the Gospel so many times and you’re comfortable, not nervous at all, you can easily remember the order of your Gospel verses.

I don’t mark the verses in my Bible. I don’t spend time flipping around in my Bible as this does waste some time in my opinion.

Make A Sheet With The Bible Verses

Instead, I use a pre-made sheet. I have all the Gospel verses on this sheet. There’s a huge advantage with this pre-made Gospel sheet.

I tell the people that I use the King James Bible, but I made the verses larger so you can see them. Many people can’t read the words in the Bible you’re using. You’ll show them, but they aren’t seeing them. They are hearing, but they are missing things as you speak.

With the Gospel verses much larger, white background, black font, the person you are giving the Gospel to can see things much easier. This means they are hearing you and seeing the Scriptures written. Jesus says, “IT IS WRITTEN.” And I’m telling you right now that you’ll be a far more effective soul winner with a Gospel sheet versus flipping through the Bible.

Flipping through takes time. Some people get interrupted. You get cut short sometimes. So you must be efficient, save time, and get to more and more people.

I’ll make you a sheet if you need one. You will easily be ready to preach the Gospel with a pre-made Gospel sheet. I always keep mine within my Bible. And it’s small enough to fit in my small Bible, but the font is way bigger than the Bible itself.

I always have my Bible ready too as I do flip to some other Scriptures when needed.

Now, in order to be ready to preach the Gospel, you need to know how to explain the simple and easy Gospel to others.

A Quick Summary of the Gospel

I want to give you a quick summary of the Gospel. And these are the points you need to make when you preach the Gospel.

  1. We’re all sinners.
  2. The penalty for sin is death. But it’s not just a physical death. There’s a spiritual death.
  3. There’s a first death. But then there’s a second death. That spiritual death is hell.
  4. If we have to pay our own penalty for sin, we would die and end up in hell.
  5. We all deserve that penalty of death and hell because we’ve sinned.
  6. But God doesn’t want us in hell. He loves us. He’s a good God.
  7. So He made an easy way for us to get to heaven. He sent His Son Jesus to die for us.
  8. Jesus died in our place. His soul was not left in hell. He paid our penalty for sin.
  9. He died, was buried, his soul was not left in hell, and He arose from the dead.
  10. He offers you a free gift today, right now, and that gift is everlasting life.
  11. All you have to do is put all your trust in Him and nothing in yourself. Not of works.
  12. You can’t save yourself. Only Jesus can save you. Trust that He can right now.
  13. And He gives you everlasting life, right now, in a moment, that never goes away.
  14. Once you’re saved, you’re always saved. You can’t lose everlasting life.

And that’s it. That’s the quick summary of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is God manifest in the flesh. He loves you. He came to save you. He came to give you everlasting life that only He can give.

That’s the greatest message in existence! And second place isn’t even close. This is the everlasting Gospel! And people will listen to this message. They first think you come with some other false message. But people hear the message you’re giving them, and they know it’s the truth.

So, let’s get you ready to preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. You have to have the verses ready. You must know how to explain them. And this is easy. God made this easy for us.

I want to go over the verses I use during the Gospel. I highly recommend these Scriptures. These work perfectly. I use them. My wife uses them. Nathan uses them. Hey, this works. And please listen, we want to keep the Gospel as simple as possible. Don’t try to add too much. I tried that when I first started. Keep it simple.

Here’s How I Preach the Gospel

We’ve All Sinned

Romans 3:23
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

And here’s how you explain this verse. And please remember that we are recording this training. You can go back and watch this any time you want.

A sin is when we break God’s law for us. For example, lying or stealing is a sin. Here’s a tip. Don’t offend people when preaching the Gospel. Don’t grill them with many questions at once. Like, “Do you know what a sin is? You don’t know what a sin is!” That’s not good.

Tell them that an example of a sin is lying or stealing. We’ve all lied and stolen something. We aren’t perfect. Do you agree with that?

Here’s a tip. Have a conversation with them. Let them speak. Respect what they’re saying. Ask questions such as, “Do you agree with that? Do you believe that?”

People will tell you what they believe. Remind them that we must believe what the Bible says. God tells you the truth in His words.

So, because we’ve all sinned, the Bible says there’s a penalty for sin.

The Penalty For Sin is Death

Romans 6:23a
For the wages of sin is death;

Wages are payment. You go to work. You earn wages. Because of your sin, the payment for your sin is death. For the wages of sin is death. Since we’ve all sinned, we’re all going to die one day. But it’s not just the death of your body or the first death. The Bible says there’s a second death.

Hey, this piques the interest of people. “Second death?” Hey, a second death can’t be good. So now we show them what the second death happens to be.

There’s A Second Death and That’s Hell

Revelation 20:14-15
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The second death is hell. If I had to pay the penalty for my sins, I would die and end up in hell. Same for you. We’ve all sinned. The penalty for sin is death and hell.

God has this book of life in heaven. We’re going to make sure you’re name is written permanently in that book of life today so you know you’re going to heaven.

Now, I want to show you a list of people that deserve hell. Watch what’s on this list closely.

A List of People That Deserve Hell

Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

I’m already on the list with fearful. I’ve been afraid before. Unbelieving. I haven’t always believed in God. I thought I did. But I didn’t. I’m going to explain that later.

Hey, we have to let people know that we aren’t perfect. We’re sinners too.

One murder makes someone a murderer. It just takes one. One lie makes us liars. We’ve all lied. Everyone who has ever lived is on that list. We all deserve that penalty of death and hell.

But, do you think God wants you in heaven or hell? See, we ask easy questions. This keeps people focused on the Gospel. I don’t believe one person has ever told me hell. They immediately say, “HEAVEN.” And I say, “That’s right. God wants us in heaven. He loves you. That’s why He sent me to you today. He wants you in heaven.”

God Wants You In Heaven and Not Hell

Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

While we still sin against God every day, He still loved us so much. He already knows every sin that you’re ever going to commit. And yet, He still sent Jesus Christ to die for you and to pay your penalty.

I then ask them if they believe that Jesus is the Son of God. I ask them if they believe Jesus is God in the flesh meaning He isn’t a creation. If they don’t believe Jesus is God, I show them John 1:1, Hebrews 1:8, and Revelation 1:8 if needed. Later I will mention John 10:30. Jesus says, “I and my Father are one.”

We must believe in the right Jesus. This is the Jesus who died on the cross, was buried, His soul was not left in hell, and He arose from the dead. THAT JESUS. Not the Jehovah Witness Jesus or the Mormon Jesus. The living Jesus.

The Life of Jesus Christ

I then go over the life of Jesus. He was born of the virgin Mary, conceived of the Holy Ghost, grew up and lived the perfect life, never sinned. At about 30 years old, He got baptized by the John the Baptist. We call ourselves Baptist because Jesus chose John the Baptist to baptize Him. Why? Because John the Baptist preached the truth. That’s what we preach.

When Jesus got baptized, He went down into the water, He come up out of the water, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Then the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus. You see the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit at the same time. One God in three persons.

After Jesus was baptized, He started preaching the Gospel. Hey, that’s God’s plan for you. Get saved, get baptized, start preaching the Gospel.

Jesus taught His disciples how to preach the Gospel. That’s what I’m doing here. I’m passing along what Jesus taught. If someone hears the Gospel and believes the Gospel, they are saved forever. No doubt. It’s done. It’s finished. It’s over. They’re going to heaven.

After about 3.5 years, Jesus went to the cross. He was beat, whipped, mocked, spit on, slashed, and He was bleeding. They hung Jesus on the cross. Put nails through His hands and His feet.

The Bible says He took the sins of the whole world onto Himself. That’s all my sin that I’ll ever commit. And that’s all your sin that you’ll ever commit. That’s the big sins. That’s the little sins. That’s every sin in between. That’s the worst sin you can imagine. He took them all.

Do you believe that? Do you believe that Jesus paid for all your sins?

Hey, don’t forget to ask these questions as you go through the Gospel. When they tell you that they believe Jesus paid for all their sins, keep that because you might need that later. There’s no sin that Jesus didn’t already pay for.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ = His Death, Burial, and Resurrection

Jesus died, His body was buried, His soul was not left in hell. He arose from the dead. He paid it all for us. My penalty is death and hell. Jesus paid it. God is a just God and He requires payment for our sin. Jesus is that payment. The blood of Jesus. The sacrifice of Jesus. It’s not our sacrifices. It’s not our blood, sweat, tears. It’s Jesus only.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

So Jesus paid it all and offers you a free gift. Romans Chapter 5 says free gift three times. A gift isn’t something you earn. A gift isn’t something you work for by definition of the word. You don’t have to live a good life to get to heaven.

The Bible says we must do only one thing, right now, to be saved forever.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

Acts 16:30-31
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?  31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

The Bible doesn’t lie to you. What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s it.

And here’s the important part. You must explain what it means to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

If I think I have to be baptized in water to get to heaven, who I am I believing in to get that done. Me. If I think I have to go to church all my life to get to heaven, who am I believing in to get that done. Me.

I used to think I believed in Jesus, but I thought I had to get baptized, go to church, be a good person, repent of my sins, ask forgiveness, love others, and more. But that was me believing in myself and not believing in what Jesus did for me.

What Does It Mean to Believe?

For example, if I asked you to pick me up for work in the morning. I need a ride to work. I said, “Hey, can you pick me up for work at 7 am?” And you said, “Yes, I’ll be there at 7 am to pick you up.” I looked you in the eye and said, “I believe in you.”

What am I saying? I am saying that I fully trust in you. I know you’ll be there to pick me up at 7 am. If I called Nathan and asked him to be there at 7:02 am just in case you don’t show up, I didn’t believe in you.

You must believe in Jesus right now, in a moment, to be saved. And I ask them, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ can save you right now?”

If they say, yes, they just believed and confessed with their mouth the Lord Jesus.

And then I confirm with them a few more times so we set this in stone for them. I give them the next Scriptures.

Whosoever Believeth in Him

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

And I stop here. What does that say you will have when you believe in Jesus Christ? They say, “Everlasting life.” I ask, “How long is everlasting?” They usually say, “A long time. Forever. Never ending. Everlasting. Eternal. Never terminates.”

I say, that’s right. Let’s say, today, you believe in Jesus Christ. You say, “Jesus, I believe in you. I know you can save me. Please save me.” Jesus gives you that free gift of everlasting life right now.

Could you ever lose that if Jesus says it lasts forever? And keep it mind that Jesus has never lied to you once. As they are thinking. I say, “Let me show you another verse.”

Once You Believe In Him, You Receive Everlasting Life

John 6:47
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

Imagine Jesus standing in front of you, looking you in the eye, and saying: “If you believe in me, I’ll give you everlasting life right now.” HATH is present tense. When you believe in Him, He gives you everlasting life and that’s forever. It can’t go away. No matter what, Jesus says, you’re going to heaven.

So, let me ask you a question to make sure I explained this properly. If you get it wrong, it’s my fault. That means I didn’t explain it correctly.

Let’s say you take that gift of everlasting life today. You have it right now. Let’s say in a couple of years from now someone makes me mad. You’re having a bad day. You get really angry and you kill that person and then you died. Would you go to heaven or hell after committing that sin of murder?

And the answer here tells you if they are believing in Jesus Christ. If they say, “I would go to hell,” I ask them why do you think that. If they say, “I would go to heaven,” I ask them why. I listen to what they say closely.

You Must Believe It’s Everlasting

If they think they would go to hell, I go back and explain that he paid for all their sins. The big sins and the little ones. Murder is a big one. He paid for that too. And He gave you everlasting life. I say, “So where would you go?” I see the light bulb go off in their head. They say, “I would go to heaven.” I say, that’s right. Do you believe that? They say, “Yes, I do.”

When they get it right, the first time. I ask them why they would go to heaven. They usually say because He paid for all my sins. Or they say because He already gave me everlasting life. And I say, “Amen, that’s right.”

But I say, “Hey, you don’t want to sin against God. The one person you don’t want to make mad is God. He has all the power. Don’t mess with God. So do your best to not sin.”

Eternally Secure in Jesus Christ

1 John 5:13
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I now give them more assurance that they are saved forever. I say, “This verse is talking about you because you told me you believe on the name of the Son of God who is Jesus.” This verse says you can know you have eternal life right now.

If it had to do with the way we live our life, we wouldn’t know until our life was over. Most people think they are going to be judged for heaven and hell after they die to see if they were good enough. The Bible already says, “There’s none good.” If we wait for that, we’re headed straight to hell.

Go Over a Quick Summary at The End

We have to be saved today. Because you believe, I want to go over a quick summary.

  1. Do you believe we’re all sinners? They say yes.
  2. The Bible says the penalty for sin is death and hell. If we die unsaved, we would go to hell.
  3. But God wants us in heaven. Do you remember what Jesus did for us so we don’t have to go to hell?
  4. He died to pay for our sins. He was buried. He arose from the dead.
  5. So Jesus paid for all your sins. Past, present, and future.
  6. What’s the one thing the Bible says we have to do to be saved?
  7. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  8. And once you believe Jesus can save you, He gives you everlasting life in that moment.
  9. Do you believe there’s anything you can do to lose everlasting life?
  10. And then I listen to see what they believe. If I need to go back, I’ll use other Scriptures.

John 10:28-30
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.  30 I and my Father are one.

Jesus has you in His hands now. You’re safe forever. When your body dies, your soul goes straight to heaven. Thank God.

Because you believe this, I want to do one more thing with you so you remember this day. I want you to remember you’re saved forever.

Pray With Them So They Remember and Know

Romans 10:13
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

And I say you can’t call upon Him unless you’ve believed. And here’s a very important part. Don’t ask them if they want to pray because most people don’t know how to pray. Many will reject that because you just scared them. You just offended them.

They are newly saved. You’ve been leading them through the Gospel.  It’s time to lead them in the prayer.

Say this, “Since you believe, I want to lead you in a short prayer and we’re going to ask Jesus to save you. Just repeat after me. Let’s bow our heads.”

The Prayer

Dear Jesus. I know I’m a sinner. I know I deserve that penalty of death and hell. But I know you paid for all my sins. I believe in your death, burial, and resurrection. I’m trusting only in you. And not in my good works, not in myself, only you Jesus. Please save me now and give me everlasting life. Amen.

And when we’re finished, I say, “Now, if someone comes up to you and asks you if you’re 100% sure you’re going to heaven, what are you going to say?” And they almost always say, “Yes, I know I’m going to heaven.” Amen.

That’s The Preaching of the Gospel in Detail But Very Simple

That’s preaching the Gospel in detail, and this is very effective for winning souls to Jesus Christ. We want to do the best job we can do in the shortest amount of time possible.

Study this training. Have your Bible ready. Have your verses ready. You don’t have to have everything perfect before you start. You don’t have to have everything memorized. But I promise you that studying this training will be one of the best things you’ll ever do.

I can easily give the Gospel from memory. I have everything memorized. Why is that ?Is it because I’m so smart? No, it’s not. It’s because I’ve given the Gospel hundreds and hundreds of times. After you go over the same verses hundreds of time, they are stuck in your head and in written in your heart.

I promise you that it’s so easy to preach the Gospel after you do this several times. You’ll have a little bit of trouble to start. But don’t be nervous. GOD IS WITH YOU. He’s helping you.

You Will Become a Great Soul Winner

And I absolutely promise you that if you care about people and you go out and preach the Gospel, you will become a great soul winner for Jesus. How can I say that?

Because God’s will is for you to become a great soul winner. And He will turn you into one. Peter was just a fisherman. He became a great soul winner and a great fisher of men. Paul persecuted Christians and he became a great soul winner for Jesus.

If they can do it, you can do it. If I can do it, I know you can do it. I didn’t even want to talk when I was growing up. The teachers thought something was wrong with me. And now, I preach the Gospel. God makes all things possible.

We will continue our soul winning training next week. This is very, very important. I want you to become a soul winner. We’re going to continue this training and go over every detail possible.

Let’s pray.
