[2] The title of the sermon: “PROVERBS CHAPTER 27.”

  • We’re continuing our Bible study verse by verse in the Book of Proverbs.
  • We have 27 verses to go through in detail or Proverbs Chapter 27.
  • Let’s get started there in verse 1.

[3] Proverbs 27:1 Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.

  • Don’t boast about tomorrow. You don’t know what’s going to happen today.
  • There are different lessons in the Bible that go with this Scripture. Let’s talk about a couple.

[4] Psalm 95:7 For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,

  • If you’re hearing this right now, it’s time for you to hear God’s words.
  • It’s time to wake up out of your sleep, and finally hear God’s words. It’s time to be saved.
  • It’s time to start doing what God tells you to do. TODAY. Not tomorrow. TODAY.

[5] Hebrews 3:7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

[6] Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

  • Do good TODAY. If you know to good today, you better do it. Don’t wait.

[7] Hebrews 3:15 While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.

  • Hey, don’t harden your heart against His words. TODAY IS THE DAY.

[8] Hebrews 4:7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

  • It’s time to understand that salvation is through Jesus Christ. Salvation is not through your works.
  • You might not have much time left. You have today. You have right now. Tomorrow might not come.

[9] James 4:13-16 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: 14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. 16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

  • Your life is as a vapor. You’re only here for a little time. You appear, and then you are gone.
  • Don’t boast about what you’re going to have tomorrow, next year, 5 years, or 50 years from now.
  • Don’t boast about all the savings that you will have. Retirement plans love to do this.
  • Hey, you have no clue what’s going to happen tomorrow, 5 years, or 50 years from now. Understand that.

[10] Luke 12:19-21 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. 20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? 21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

  • God says, “THOU FOOL, THIS NIGHT THY SOUL SHALL BE REQUIRED OF THEE.”
  • Don’t boast about all the things that you have. “Look at all these things I have.”
  • “Then whose shall those things be?” When you’re dead, how much will you have?

[11] Isaiah 56:11-12 Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. 12 Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.

  • People are always looking for gain for themselves. They are greedy dogs which can never have enough.
  • Do we have enough? I guarantee you that all of us here have enough.
  • Then let’s do more good for others using what God has given to all of us.
  • He’s given us things, but He’s given us more than that. He’s given us His Gospel which saves.
  • So, let’s give it. TODAY IS THE DAY. Let’s continue in Proverbs Chapter 27 verse 2.

[12] Proverbs 27:2 Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips.

  • If we were like other churches, I would have another man introduce me.
  • They would get up here, and I would instruct them to tell everyone how amazing I am.
  • This happens within most churches. And it’s sickening. Or, I would tell you how great I am.
  • We don’t praise ourselves. If someone praises us, it should be a stranger.
  • And what do we have to praise ourselves for anyway? All our righteousness are as filthy rags.

[13] 2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

[14] 2 Corinthians 10:18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

  • Always keep in mind that we are from the dirt. The Lord deserves praise. We give Him praise.
  • One of the best works you can do is preaching the Gospel to others. Glory IN THE LORD.
  • The Lord will commend you for winning souls. He that winneth souls is wise.

[15] Proverbs 20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

  • If you have a man or woman who is constantly telling you how great they are, be careful.
  • God is looking for men and women who have faith. THIS IS GOOD IN HIS EYES.
  • People who praise themselves aren’t looking too great to God. We please God when we have faith in Him.

[16] Proverbs 27:3-4 A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both. 4 Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?

  • This wrath we are talking about is the wrath of a fool or the wrath of man.
  • Man’s wrath is cruel. Man’s anger is outrageous. A fool’s wrath is heavier than a stone and weighty sand.
  • But, what’s worse according to God’s word? What does verse 4 say is worse?
  • “But who is able to stand before ENVY?” Envy leads to hating someone and doing stupid things.
  • The person who envies you won’t make any sense. They simply want to ruin you.
  • I want to show you the first use of the word form of envy within the Bible.

[17] Genesis 26:12-15 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the LORD blessed him. 13 And the man waxed great, and went forward, and grew until he became very great: 14 For he had possession of flocks, and possession of herds, and great store of servants: and the Philistines envied him. 15 For all the wells which his father’s servants had digged in the days of Abraham his father, the Philistines had stopped them, and filled them with earth.

  • The Philistines go and fill in all the wells that Abraham’s servants had digged. Why?
  • Simply because they envied Isaac. There’s no reason to fill in wells. They help people. But they don’t care.
  • Envy is worse than a fool’s wrath because envy doesn’t lead to logical decisions. They make no sense.

[18] Proverbs 27:5 Open rebuke is better than secret love.

  • A person should be rebuked openly and not in secret. When someone is wrong, you should tell them.
  • Why hide it? Don’t you want to help that person and others?
  • Hey, it’s okay to be wrong. I will tell you clearly that I am wrong constantly. We need each other.
  • God says so. We gather together to help each other.

[19] Proverbs 28:23 He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

  • People in this country aren’t accustomed to hearing that they’re wrong.
  • If they do, they will hate you. They don’t ever want to be wrong even though we aren’t perfect.
  • Of course we’re all going to be wrong much of the time. But many people think they are perfect.
  • Or, at least, they think they are more perfect than you are.
  • A wise person will love the rebuke. A fool will hate you for telling them the truth.

[20] 1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

  • We need to make sure we are all doing right. If not, we need to get it fixed immediately.

[21] Leviticus 19:17 Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him.

  • Would you rather sin against God, or be rebuked by someone so you stop sinning against God?
  • Rebuke is love. But the rebuke, in order to be good, must be of the truth.
  • For example, if someone attempts to rebuke me on the way of salvation, they would be wrong.
  • Believing in Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation. There is no other way.
  • Now, if I taught a works based salvation, you better rebuke me immediately.

[22] Galatians 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

  • There are many more Scriptures about rebuking others within the Bible. We will move on for now.

[23] Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

  • A good friend will rebuke you and will do their best to help you.
  • For example, a dad needs to rebuke his children often to lead them the right way.
  • This might hurt at times, but it is far better.
  • So, don’t be one of those people who gets offended at everything. Your faithful friend is helping you.
  • Now, if you think you have a friend and they want you to do evil, you need to rebuke them.

Many of your enemies will keep you close deceitfully.

  • Children, make sure you understand this as you grow up. Enemies are deceitful. They will lie to you.
  • They will stab you in the back so be very careful. Choose your friends wisely.
  • One faithful friend is better than thousands of deceitful enemies who call themselves your friend.
  • For example, Nathan was a prophet of God and a faithful friend of King David.

[24] 2 Samuel 12:5-7 And David’s anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die: 6 And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity. 7 And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

  • We might not have hundreds of people here in this church, but you will find faithful friends here.
  • You will find people here who will tell you the truth. We will be faithful friends and followers of Jesus.
  • You can come with us, or you can choose to go the other way. You can’t have it both ways.
  • You can have good friends who actually love you or friends like Judas Iscariot who betray you.

[25] Proverbs 27:7 The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.

  • When you are full of food, you won’t even enjoy an honeycomb.
  • But, when you are hungry, raw broccoli tastes amazingly great. Try fasting for 24 hours.
  • You’ll quickly understand. Now try 48 hours, you’ll understand even more.

With the word of God, you will always be hungry because you never know everything in this Bible.

  • We want more and more and more. We will never be full because God’s understanding is far greater.
  • For example, we can read this over and over again and always learn more and more.
  • With the books of man, we eventually get full. But with God, we are never full. We are always learning.

[26] Proverbs 27:8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place.

  • A bird that wanders from HER NEST means that a mother bird has forsaken its young.
  • The young birds can’t take care of themselves. Her babies are left all alone.
  • They need their mother, but she is out wandering around.
  • Same thing with a man that wanders from his place. We all have jobs that God has given to us.

[27] Proverbs 26:2 As the bird by wandering, as the swallow by flying, so the curse causeless shall not come.

  • We cause the problems in this world. The people do.
  • When a woman wants a career and forsakes her children, she is like a bird wandering from her nest.
  • When a man won’t work and take care of his family, he is doing the same thing.
  • He has a job, but he won’t do it. When we don’t follow God’s words, the curses will come.
  • So, we can either do what God asks or don’t. When we don’t, we sin against God and bad things happen.

People making bad decisions cause all the problems. A bad decision is one that doesn’t follow God’s words.

  • That woman who won’t care for her own children causes problems.
  • When her children grow up to be Godless because she was too busy for them, it’s her fault.
  • Don’t blame it on God. He gave us His words to follow. We have a choice. Do it or not.

[28] Proverbs 27:9-10 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel. 10 Thine own friend, and thy father’s friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off.

  • Do not forsake good friends. Who are your good friends? These are the ones who give you good counsel.
  • You might think that it hurts when you are rebuked by a good friend. But don’t be offended.
  • This is what a good friend will do for you. They give you HEARTY COUNSEL the Bible says.
  • Your best friends will come from a good church who has actual believers in Jesus Christ who follow Him.
  • You won’t find your best friends at a bar or a night club. You won’t find a good husband or wife at a bar.

[29] Matthew 12:46-48 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brethren stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee. 48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?

[30] Matthew 12:49-50 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

  • People who love Jesus Christ will be the best of friends to you. This won’t be like TV friends.
  • This won’t be like the fairy tale movie friends. These people will be true friends in actual reality.
  • They want the best for you. They will help you with counsel from God’s words.
  • And you should do the same for them.

[31] Proverbs 27:11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.

  • Children can go one of two ways. They have a choice to follow God or to follow after evil.
  • My children, be wise and make my heart glad! Then I can answer anyone who reproaches me.
  • When people want to know if I am truly for God or not, they will look at my children.
  • Yes, it happens all the time.

[32] Psalm 127:5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

  • In other words, the children will stand for their parents who love God. They won’t stand against them.
  • The world right now is trying to change all of this by teaching your children to do evil.
  • Children, as you grow up, you have many choices to make. You can stand with your parents.
  • Or, you can go against them. If I were you, I wouldn’t go against them. It won’t turn out good for you.
  • Why? Because God commands you to obey your parents. If you don’t, things will be very bad.

[33] Proverbs 27:12 A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished.

  • If you pay attention to what God teaches you in the Bible, you’ll know where evil is coming from.
  • When you won’t follow His words, this is evil. You should know that punishment will be coming.
  • When a wife won’t take care of her own children, that woman should know that evil is coming.
  • When a husband won’t allow his wife to stay home and care for the children, evil is coming.

When a child growing up won’t obey his or her parents who love God, they should know evil is coming.

  • These are all warning from God Almighty who foresees everything.
  • A prudent man foreseeth the evil and hideth himself. Get away from the evil. DO IT NOW.
  • If not, you will see how simple you were in ignoring God’s words. You will be punished.

[34] Proverbs 27:13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

  • Look closely at this Scripture on the screen before I move to the next Scripture. Got it?

[35] Proverbs 20:16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.

  • Same exact Scripture in Proverbs 20:16 as you see here. This is a double warning for you.
  • What does this mean? Don’t be a surety for a stranger. Your clothes will be taken.
  • For example, I am not going to co-sign a loan for a stranger. Same thing with strange women.
  • Stay away from them. These commands are from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

We are supposed to hate suretiship, and yes, this word is in the Bible in Proverbs Chapter 11.

  • The Bible says we will not go wrong when we hate suretiship. Do not strike hands.
  • Do not be a surety for debts. If you decide to ignore this, you will lose your bed and your garments.
  • This is a double warning from God as some people just won’t listen to this.

[36] Proverbs 27:14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.

  • When people attempt to bless you early and often with a loud voice constantly, beware.
  • “It shall be counted a curse to him.” This goes both ways.
  • People will use flattery in order to get someone to do wrong. Be very careful with this flattery.
  • Absalom used flattery to gain a following. Notice that the Bible is speaking of friends here.

“He that blesseth a friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning.”

  • Be very careful when a so-called friend does this.
  • Many people only do good things for you to get something from you for themselves.
  • This happens constantly in this world.
  • It’s very rare to find a friend that does something for you and doesn’t want anything in return.
  • Many people will use their mouth to get much more from you.
  • Constant blessings from the mouth of a friend should be a warning to you. Be careful.

[37] Proverbs 27:15-16 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. 16 Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself.

  • Pay close attention to these Scriptures here. A contentious woman is one who likes to argue and fight.
  • Now, if you aren’t doing the right things as a husband, and your wife is attempting to do right:
  • Don’t act as if she is the contentious woman. You are the contentious man. You’re causing the issues.
  • So don’t try to turn this around and blame everything on a woman who is trying to do God’s words.
  • This Scripture is talking about a woman who constantly wants to argue and fight.

This is as a continual dropping, DRIP, DRIP, DRIP, in a VERY RAINY DAY. You can’t get away from the drips.

  • You can’t go outside and get away because it’s very rainy out there. You can’t hide in the attic.
  • You’ll hear the drip in the attic. You can’t hide the wind. You can’t hide the smell or strong perfume.
  • And you can’t hide a contentious woman. Everyone will know she is a contentious woman.
  • She doesn’t hide it, she can’t hide it, and you can’t hide her.
  • She is like the wind and the smell of the ointment.
  • When someone passes by with a strong perfume, you know it. Same thing with a contentious woman.

[38] Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

  • This is the type of friend you want to be. We need to be sharpening each other. How? With God’s words.
  • You need to learn things that I haven’t learned. I need to learn things you haven’t learned.
  • You need to study topics I haven’t studied. I need to study topics you haven’t studied.
  • And we need to sharpen each other. For example, I can only do so much in the Bible each day.
  • You can be studying something totally different. We can teach and help each other.
  • Now let’s multiply that by all of us. We need to be doing this.

In most churches, everyone counts on one man to teach everything. God never commanded this.

  • He commands women to be silent in the churches. Women won’t teach publicly in church with sermons.
  • He doesn’t command one man to teach everything and the rest of the men to be silent.
  • Let’s say, as a man, you want to teach something you’ve been studying. THEN TEACH IT.
  • Just ask me, and you’ll be up here teaching too. Men are not to be silent in the churches.
  • We are all different, and it is good to learn from different men. Iron sharpeneth iron.

[39] Proverbs 27:18 Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured.

  • God gives you the key to success in your life right here. And don’t forget this.
  • We all have masters. You might think this is referring to slavery, but it isn’t.
  • For example, I have a manager at work. I do my best work for my manager. I give it all I have.
  • And then this makes my manager look good to the next level manager.
  • “So he that waiteth in his master shall be honored.” We do good work for our bosses.
  • God teaches us to do this. And we shall be honored. Don’t ever go against God’s words, though.
  • Understand what I mean. And make sure you understand this.

[40] Colossians 3:22-24 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: 23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.

  • You are actually working for God who gave you the masters that you have in this life.
  • So, work for God always. Don’t go against Him even if your master asks you to.
  • Explain to your master that God is the Master of all and that you would be breaking His rules.
  • Your master here on earth may or may not understand. But you must explain.
  • And this gives you an opportunity to give them the Gospel as well.
  • There are kinds of examples in the Bible of this. God understands, and He will help you.

[41] Proverbs 27:19 As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man.

  • Listen, Proverbs Chapter 27 is not an easy chapter.
  • If you noticed, it’s taken me a while to get back to this chapter. Read this verse again.
  • What does this mean? When you look in water, you’ll see a reflection of yourself.
  • It’s similar but not exactly like you. “So the heart of man to man.” Our hearts are similar.
  • They are not exact, but your heart is similar to my heart.

We can understand each other, we can feel what you’re going through, and we’ve had similar problems.

  • Not exact but similar. In God’s creation, you can see this. Humans are like humans.
  • Monkeys are like monkeys. Fish are like fish. Birds are like birds. Cows are like cows. They are not all exact.
  • But they are similar.

[42] Psalm 33:15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

[43] Acts 17:26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

  • All men are similar. We all came from ONE BLOOD. You aren’t better than I. I am not better than you.
  • We are alike. We know each other in this way. This helps you to win people to Jesus Christ.
  • Talk to people. See what they’ve been through. Get them to listen. Warn them.
  • Make sure they get to heaven. This is your job that God appointed you to do.

[44] Proverbs 27:20 Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.

  • Just as heaven has no limit on reservations, hell is also never full. There’s more room in hell.
  • People see all the examples of destruction in this life, but they just don’t care. They can’t see.
  • They can’t see that the world is teaching our children to shoot up the schools.
  • They won’t follow God’s words because that doesn’t satisfy them. Their eyes are never satisfied.

They love destruction. They love the news stories that show a child shooting up the schools.

  • “Did you see what happened?” They love all the drama. They love to see all the shootings in Chicago.
  • They love to see the ruin of people. They’ll be there when you’re down.
  • They don’t want to see that you’re doing good.
  • They will be at your funeral, but they won’t be there for a celebration.
  • Evil and wicked people love to see you dead. God doesn’t. He wants you to have life everlasting.

[45] Proverbs 27:21 As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise.

  • Make sure you see this and understand this. PRAISE IS A TRIAL FOR YOU that will refine you.
  • What will you do with the praise you receive? It’s a test. Will you be raised up?
  • Watch how this next Scripture matches up with this.

[46] Proverbs 17:3 The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.

  • God will try your hearts. You will get praise in your life. Will your heart be lifted up?
  • Or, will you stay humble and obedient to God. Being proud of yourself will destroy you.
  • Pride cometh before destruction. So be very careful with the praise you receive.
  • When someone praises you, give that praise to God.
  • This could be another way to give someone the Gospel. Give all glory to God.

[47] Proverbs 27:22 Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him.

  • Bray is to pound, beat, or grind small. A pestle makes wheat really fine.
  • So imagine a fool in a mortar and then you throw very fine wheat powder on them.
  • It sticks to them, and it’s not going to leave them. Same thing for a fool and his or her foolishness.
  • A fool won’t listen to God’s words so they will continue in foolishness.
  • The Bible says you can give a foolish man 100 stripes and it won’t help.
  • This Scripture is teaching us the same thing.

[48] Proverbs 27:23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds.

  • Be diligent. Know the state or status of your flocks. Look after your herds. This is important.
  • This is talking about the business that you do. Your job. Listen to the next verse.

[49] Proverbs 27:24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?

  • You don’t know if your job is going to continue. So be diligent in knowing that state of your work.
  • I thought the first job I had out of college would continue. It didn’t. We were closed.
  • I had to find other jobs several times in my life. If your being paid well right now, it might not continue.
  • “For riches are not forever.” This tells you for sure that God is speaking of earthly riches here.
  • Kings don’t know if the crown will go to their son. The next Scriptures are all related here.

[50] Proverbs 27:25-26 The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. 26 The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field.

  • The job that you work is important to God, and it’s important to you and your family.
  • You are clothed because of the job God gave you. Your wife and children are clothed because of this job.
  • Your job is important. God will help you to find a good one that will glorify Him.
  • But understand that jobs aren’t forever. You might have to find a new job. God will help. Trust Him.

[51] Proverbs 27:27 And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens.

  • This is why you need a job. And be diligent in the state of your job. Look well to your job.
  • Keep a close eye on things, and how they are going at work. The loss of my first job was a surprise.
  • And it didn’t go so well with me. I loved that job, but I that job wasn’t good for me.
  • I look back now, and I am glad that it turned out the way that it did. Thank God.
  • At the time, I wasn’t happy. But God has led me to this point in my life, and I am very glad to be here.

I’ve had a job where I made much more than I do now, but now, I can do more for God.

  • And I wouldn’t change that at all. Keep in mind what’s important. Take care of your family.
  • But always put God first. Don’t allow a job to take over your life. God gives the food and clothing.
  • The job doesn’t. You work through the job for God, and He gives you the food and clothing.
  • He gives you the ability to take care of your family. Be diligent to the state of thy flocks.
  • Look well to thy herds. As a father and a mother, we should all be watching things closely.

How is my wife doing? Is she okay? Am I doing right for her? Am I praying for her?

  • How are my children doing? Are they going the wrong way because I’m not paying attention?
  • Are they reading and understanding the words of the Bible?
  • Am I training them up in the way they should go? Are we feeding them the right things?
  • How about my Dad and Mom? Are they doing okay? Are we praying for them as a family?
  • Be diligent. Don’t forget about these things. Don’t allow the world to put you to sleep.
  • This life is not a movie. This life is not a fairy tale. People are dying right now. It’s real.

Let’s do what God says. Let’s be diligent, which means steady and constant.

  • An example would be steady and constant in coming to church to learn God’s words.
  • I can’t miss church. I must be diligent. Treat church the same way as I do. “I CAN’T MISS IT.”
  • “I WON’T MISS IT.” For me, church is the best part of the week. I get to learn God’s words.
  • I get to preach God’s words. I love it. And I won’t miss it. I love talking to all of you.
  • I love to hear what you think. I love to learn from all of you. IRON SHARPENS IRON.

Do the same for other important things in your life. Be diligent in prayer. Be diligent in reading the Scriptures.

  • Be diligent in studying the Bible. Be diligent in your work. Be diligent, men, in leading your homes.
  • Be diligent, women, in taking care of the house. Be diligent in taking care of your children.
  • Don’t stop. Don’t quit. Persevere for God.
  • And you shall have food, clothing, and other important things for your household.
  • That ends Proverbs Chapter 27 with the 27th verse.

Let’s pray.
