[2] The title of the sermon: “PROVERBS CHAPTER 23.”

Verse by Verse Through Proverbs Chapter 23

  • Let’s continue our verse by verse study in the Book of Proverbs. Let’s start there in verse 1.

[3] Proverbs 23:1-3 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee: 2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite. 3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat.

  • You might be thinking, “What in the world does that mean?”
  • “Put a knife to thy throat if thou be a man given to appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties.”
  • “For they are deceitful meat.” What??? Let’s figure out what this means.

Let’s say you are sitting to eat with a ruler. Look at what is before you very diligently or very carefully.

  • You shouldn’t just take whatever is set before you and consume it all in haste.
  • Do not desire all of the dainties or delicacies that are placed before you.
  • In other words, don’t be like an animal and just devour anything and everything that tastes good to you.

Let’s say that meat sacrificed to false gods is placed before you. It tastes great, but it was sacrificed to false gods.

  • You might say: “Well, that doesn’t happen in our world today.” Yes it does.
  • For example, Buddhists offer food to their false gods constantly. Would you eat that food if you knew?
  • No, you shouldn’t eat that food if you know that it was offered to idols.
  • If you didn’t know, and you eat it, it’s fine. Diligently look upon what is placed before you.
  • Or, do you just go at it with everything you have because it looks and smells so amazingly great?

In our flesh, many things look, taste, and feel great to us. But be very careful of those things.

  • Be careful of the food you are eating and the drinks you are drinking.
  • Be careful of what you’re putting into your body. Most people could care less.
  • Are you taking drugs? Are you taking prescription drugs? Are they good for you?
  • Are you smoking and killing your body? Are you turning your lungs black? Why would you do that?

If the ruler sets alcohol before you, what will you do? Let’s say it’s your manager at work you’re trying to impress.

  • After work, you’re invited to a big party for employees. The alcohol is set out before everyone.
  • There’s a lot of pressure on you to drink the alcohol. Will you drink of it?
  • Will you eat all the food like a glutton because everyone else is doing the same?
  • Will you partake of all the delicacies?

[4] Psalm 141:3-4 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. 4 Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.

[5] Revelation 18:3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

  • Many people fall into all of these evil and wicked things because of deceitful meat.
  • And because of dainties and delicacies. There are hundreds of different example I could give.
  • But I’ll give you one from my life. I worked for GE Appliances for several years.

They sent me to Crotonville for a Technology Leadership Development Course.

  • This was the first one of that type in GE’s history.
  • I was there with people from around the world who worked for GE.
  • GE was looking for people who wanted to be executives.
  • The Crotonville place was amazing and beautiful and filled with dainties.
  • They would give us a break every hour all day long, approximately.

After every break, there was amazing food waiting for us. They would bring out new food constantly.

  • And yes, it was amazingly good. They had glass refrigerators and freezers around the break rooms.
  • Everything was free. By your room you sleep in there were more break rooms with food.
  • Ice cream, cake, and any sodas you wanted were in reach all the time.
  • My manager told me that he gained 15 pounds when he went there.

Anything That Wants To Place God Below In Priority Is Not Good

And then they attempt to convince you that being an executive with GE is the best.

  • They teach you in class that it’s worth it because of all the delicacies you’re going to get.
  • You’ll get a car, such as a Porsche, as an executive. They’ll pay for it. Free car. Expensive one too.
  • Then they say, “Now, look, your family will not be your priority any longer.”
  • “GE will be your top priority.” They said this exactly. “Your children won’t get the attention they need.”
  • The lady teaching the class for GE actually got tears in her eyes because she forsook her own children.
  • All so she could become a GE executive, get this so-called great title, and all these dainties.
  • So, remember, “CONSIDER DILIGENTLY WHAT IS BEFORE THEE. Be not desirous of these things.”

[6] Proverbs 23:4-5 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom. 5 Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

  • This is a commandment from God Almighty. Make sure you see this and understand this.
  • Let me repeat this. “Labor not to be rich.” Your goal in life should not to be rich.
  • Your goal in life should be to love God and follow His commandments. This is the whole duty of man.
  • Setting your eyes upon riches is foolish because you can’t take them with you.
  • God can remove all of the riches from you anytime He wants. They fly away.

We need to cease from our own wisdom. For example, Hollywood actors believe themselves to be wise.

  • They are complete fools. For example, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Two fools.
  • It’s in the news everywhere. Who cares? Two fools fighting.
  • All the Hollywood actors come out as being against violence. Have you seen their movies?
  • They are so against violence, but their movies are 100% violence and wrong.

They make horror movies that are pure evil and pure violence. But they’re so against violence?

  • Then why are you making all of these evil, wicked, and violent movies? They lead to more violence.
  • Idiots and fools. When we think we’re wise, we are foolish. God is wise. Cease from your own wisdom.
  • Another example is climate change. These foolish people think they are going to save the world.
  • They think this way because they don’t believe God exists. He is in control of this earth. He made it.

[7] Proverbs 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

[8] John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

  • Do not labor to be rich on this earth. Labor to have souls saved. Work hard for something important.
  • Saved souls will never perish. Your money and riches will perish. Saved souls do not.

[9] Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

[10] Proverbs 26:12 Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

[11] Isaiah 5:21 Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

  • Hollywood is an example of this. They labor to be rich and are wise in their own eyes.
  • And you can see the result of going directly against the Bible. They are evil and wicked fools.
  • “But I want to be a movie star.” No, you don’t. You’ll end up like those idiots. Why?
  • Many of them take their own lives even when the world thinks they have everything.
  • The truth is that they have NOTHING of importance. Don’t be like them.

[12] Proverbs 23:6-8 Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainty meats: 7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart is not with thee. 8 The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

  • If you know someone to be evil, why are you there? For example, I wouldn’t go to a Hollywood event.
  • “But you’re invited to the red carpet. You are invited to a feast. You’ll be around movie stars.”
  • No thanks. I’ll pass. I could care less about movie stars, rock stars, their big events.
  • If they are on this side of the world, I would rather be on the other side of the world.
  • I would rather be as far away from that trash as possible. They have men wearing dresses.

Men Wearing Dresses Are Abominations To God

They are abominations to the Lord God Almighty. “Eat thou not the bread of him that hath an evil eye.”

  • “Neither desire thou his dainty meats.” You don’t want to partake in evil things.
  • That person has an evil heart. His heart is not with yours. Yours is saved by Jesus Christ.
  • His is not saved and never will be saved. Don’t eat of that trash. You will lose your sweet words.
  • You will begin to forsake the words from God. You will vomit up trash the rest of your life.

For example, don’t partake of Hollywood with their queers and homos.

  • All the new fashion designs are from queers and homos.
  • Skinny jeans come from queers and homos. Why are men wearing spandex jeans that show everything?
  • I don’t want see it. Get away from me. Are you a queer too? Why are you wearing their clothing?
  • Why are you partaking of their evil trash? Why do you want to dress like them? “But they’re so cool.”
  • No they aren’t. They are trash. “But, Josh, you look like an old hillbilly.”

Hey, I would rather look like an old hillbilly from Kentucky than a queer in skinny jeans.

  • I would rather my wife be dressed conservatively versus dressing like a whore.
  • By the way, there are 36 times the word whore, whores, and whoring is used by God Himself in the Bible.
  • That’s for the oh so righteous Christians out there who think whore, idiot, and fool are bad words.

Hollywood Says They Don’t Condone Violence But Look At Their Movies!

I would rather talk like a hillbilly than one of those Hollywood actors who think they are wise.

  • They say, “We do not condone violence in any way, but we love making movies about violence.”
  • If you love making movies about violence, then you love violence. Idiots.
  • If you haven’t noticed, I hate Hollywood. They’re all headed straight to hell.
  • Hey, don’t buy your son skinny jeans or follow the trends in Hollywood. They’re trending down.
  • Watch what you are partaking in and consider diligently what’s in front of you.

[13] Proverbs 23:9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

  • What I am preaching is from the Bible. If fools from Hollywood listen to this, they will despise me.
  • They will despise the words from God because they love evil, but they think they’re good and right.
  • They think that I am evil for preaching what God says. This means they have no fear of God.
  • They don’t understand who God is and what He can do.
  • So, I am not preaching to those fools. I am preaching to people who want to hear God’s words.

[14] Proverbs 23:10-11 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless: 11 For their redeemer is mighty; he shall plead their cause with thee.

  • Don’t attempt to take advantage of the fatherless. Don’t steal from them. Don’t take their land.
  • Don’t take their money. If you do, understand that their REDEEMER is MIGHTY.
  • For example, my kids have me to protect them. The fatherless children don’t have a father on earth.
  • So, do you know who steps in to protect them? God Almighty will step in to protect them.
  • The people who take advantage of these children will be destroyed by God. Destruction awaits them.

[15] Job 6:27 Yea, ye overwhelm the fatherless, and ye dig a pit for your friend.

[16] Job 22:9 Thou hast sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.

[17] Job 24:9 They pluck the fatherless from the breast, and take a pledge of the poor.

[18] Psalm 94:6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless.

  • There’s people out there right now preying on the fatherless.

[19] Proverbs 22:23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.

  • Does that sound like something you would want? Let’s see what this means exactly.
  • God says, “I will spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.”

[20] Exodus 22:22-24 Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. 23 If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; 24 And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

  • God says, “Afflict a fatherless child, and if they cry unto me, I will hear their cry.”
  • “And I will come after you. I will kill you. Your wives shall be widows and your children fatherless.”
  • Now, that’s our God who we love. He will get rid of all the evil in this world one day.

[21] Proverbs 23:12 Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.

  • The Book of Proverbs constantly and consistently gives us Scripture like this one.
  • God is pleading with us over and over again to listen to His words of knowledge and get wisdom.
  • These are commandments from God. When we hear these, we better get our heart and ears ready.
  • Listen to what He says next. This is wisdom from God.

[22] Proverbs 23:13-16 Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. 14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. 15 My son, if thine heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine. 16 Yea, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.

  • We want out children to be wise and speak right things. We want them to do right by fearing God.
  • If they truly fear God, they will do more right and much less wrong. They need this fear of God.
  • How do wo accomplish this in their lives? When they do wrong, we correct them.
  • When they deserve a beating with the rod, we provide this beating with the rod.
  • If they do right, they don’t get a beating with the rod.

Children Must Be Corrected

Children must be corrected. Teach them the right ways. When they do wrong, then they get a correction.

  • If you won’t do this, your children will become fools. And you can see this in the world today.
  • A whipping for your children will not hurt them. But it will deliver their soul from hell.
  • If you care for your children, you will correct them. As you correct them, they will go the right ways.
  • They will become wise because of these corrections. You will be able to rejoice and not beat them.
  • The corrections should become less and less as they grow up. They will become wise.

[23] Proverbs 23:17-18 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long. 18 For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off.

  • When you do evil, you should expect to get evil back. When you envy an evil person, you’ll be like them.
  • Many people say, “I want to be like that rock star, that movie star or that CEO.”
  • “Look at everything they have. Look at their spouse. Look at their home. Look at their jets and yachts.”
  • Yeah, keep on envying them and all the things they have. Those things are nothing.
  • And, if they were truthful, they would tell you that it all means nothing.

Would you love to have a beautiful wife that could care less about you and cheats on you constantly?

  • Or, would you rather have a beautiful Godly wife who you can count on each and every day?
  • Would you rather have a harlot as a wife or a wife who only loves you and you alone?
  • The celebrities usually are married for a year or two and then they move on to another.
  • This is wrong, evil, and wicked. Do you think happiness comes from doing wrong? It doesn’t.
  • Instead, happiness comes from the fear of the Lord. There will be an end to all the evil.
  • There will not be an end to the good. The good will endure forever and the good is God.

[24] Proverbs 23:19-21 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

  • Many people hate to hear these words. They want to skip over these words.
  • Again, God tells us to hear, to be wise, and to guide thine heart in the way.
  • He’s telling you again that you better be listening if you want to go the right way.

And then He commands you to NOT be among winebibbers and riotous eaters of flesh.

  • For example, this means you should NEVER go to a bar. Nothing good happens there.
  • At Catholic events in which they gamble and drink alcohol, nothing good happens there.
  • Don’t be around alcohol. Don’t be around gluttonous pigs who love to eat everything in sight.
  • Why would God tells us these things? This is for our good.

But you might say, “But I love food. I love to eat good food. And I love to eat lots of it. I just can’t stop.”

  • Well, God says: “For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty.”
  • “And drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.” So, take a close look. God ties these things together.
  • A drunkard will be lazy. They will be drowsy and poor. A glutton will be lazy. They will be drowsy and poor.
  • I’ve seen this in my life over and over again. There’s hundreds of examples.
  • Many lazy people are on drugs and alcohol. Many lazy people are very fat because they are gluttons.

Do Not Lust Over Food or Alcohol

You need to be very careful to not lust over food. Don’t load your plate up with piles and piles of food.

  • Most people have issues with that. I’ve had issues with that.
  • If you say that you haven’t, most likely, you are lying. Stay away from the food you lust over.
  • Eat something else that’s good for you. You probably don’t lust over that food.
  • Is there anyone who gets fat eating broccoli? No, there isn’t.

Now, if you could just add a few sticks of butter, a pound of cheese, and a box of crackers to the few pieces of broccoli, you could lust over that.

  • Drunkards and gluttons are very similar. Don’t lust after alcohol. This entire world lusts after that trash.
  • Don’t lust after food. Don’t waste all your money on alcohol and food that you lust over.

[25] Deuteronomy 21:20-21 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

  • This son was stubborn and rebellious. He was a glutton and a drunkard.
  • You don’t want to be in those categories. He was put to death because of this evil.
  • But, in today’s world, these same people are the heroes.

For example, there are TV shows that make people heroes over how much they can eat and lust over.

  • And these TV shows train the people to become gluttons.
  • Drunkards and gluttons become rebellious people. They end up hating God and loving alcohol and food.
  • This alcohol and much of the food that is eaten is poison. It kills them, but they worship the food.
  • For example, the majority of preachers in this country are fat and very fat.

[26] Judges 3:29 And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.

  • When you love food, you are lusty. You lust after it. You would choose food over more important things.
  • God hates gluttony. Stop lusting after food. Stop lusting after drinks. You will have health problems.
  • You will spend all your money on hospital bills, doctors, prescriptions, and more.
  • You will come to poverty. You will come to death.

[27] Proverbs 23:22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

  • Listen to your father that begat thee. If he is a Godly man, you need to listen to what he says.
  • He’s older than you. He’s done more than you. Do not despise your mother when she is old.
  • If your dad and mom love you through following God’s commandments, why wouldn’t you listen?
  • If they are evil people, you need to forsake them. But, if they are Godly people, you better listen.

[28] Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

[29] Proverbs 6:20 My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:

  • If you want to know how serious God is about these commandments, listen to this.

[30] Deuteronomy 21:18-19 If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that, when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them: 19 Then shall his father and his mother lay hold on him, and bring him out unto the elders of his city, and unto the gate of his place;

[31] Deuteronomy 21:20-21 And they shall say unto the elders of his city, This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. 21 And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.

  • Again, you BETTER listen to your father and your mother. They want what’s best for you.
  • Do not be rebellious. Why are you rebellious? Are you on drugs? Alcohol? Are you a glutton?
  • All of this is being tied together by God Almighty. Stay away from drugs, alcohol, and gluttony.
  • Listen to your father and your mother.

Honor Thy Father And Mother

[32] Mark 7:10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

  • Make sure you understand how serious God is about this, and don’t pass over it.

[33] Proverbs 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

  • Keep this wisdom that you are learning from the Book of Proverbs. BUY IT. Don’t sell it.
  • Keep it. Don’t get rid of it like it’s junk. Keep wisdom, instruction, and understanding.
  • For example, people who are here and listening to this are buying truth.
  • Everyone else is at home watching TV and they are buying junk, lies, and deception.
  • We buy the truth here while others are buying worthless junk.

[34] Proverbs 23:24-25 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.

  • The father who has saved children will GREATLY REJOICE! A wise child brings joy to their father.
  • For example, my children bring me joy. They will continue to bring me joy.
  • They will continue to be corrected when they do wrong. They aren’t perfect. I’m not perfect.
  • But they will listen to me because they aren’t foolish.

For example, I told them the other day that if I ever see them smoking that I will rip the cigarette out of their hand and make them eat it.

  • If I am 85 years old, and I see them smoking, I will rip the cigarette out of their hand and make them eat it.
  • If I ever see them drinking alcohol, I will rip it out of their hands and throw it.
  • I will be like Nehemiah, and I will pluck the hairs off their heads if they attempt to go the wrong way.
  • I said, “Try me and see what happens.” We will not allow our children to go the wrong way.

Why is that? Because I don’t want them to die. I don’t want them to see pain and hurt because of sin.

  • The idiots out there will say that I’m crazy. No, you’re crazy. You’ve lost it. We are perfectly sane.
  • You are the ones who want evil and wicked things for your children.
  • You are the ones who murder your children. You are the ones who support abortion.
  • You are the ones who want to teach 4 year olds that they can change their gender. Idiots.

[35] Proverbs 23:26-28 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.

  • Fathers should be teaching their sons that desiring strange women is wrong.
  • One way to do that is to stay married to your first wife. But is that happening in this world?
  • I don’t know if these numbers are correct but there were over 630,000 divorces in 2020.
  • About half of the people who get married are getting divorced. That’s horrible.

Supposedly, the number of divorces are decreasing in the United States.

  • But, why do you think that is? Now, people won’t get married. They simply live together.
  • And that’s a horrible thing to do too. This is called fornication, and God hates fornication.
  • So, if you think you’re doing better by living together versus getting married and divorced later:
  • Think again. It’s not better. It’s not easier. Do you know why? Because God hates this.
  • It’s easier for people to live together than to get married.

Having A Sexual Relationship With Someone You Aren’t Married To Is Strange

This is called strange. Having a sexual relationship with someone you aren’t married to is strange.

  • God didn’t create us to have strange women.
  • God’s design is for a man to marry a woman and to stay with that woman for life.
  • A whore is a woman who goes around to different men constantly.
  • A man shouldn’t be marrying a whore. A man shouldn’t be fornicating with a whore.
  • “For a whore is a deep ditch. And a strange woman is a narrow pit.” Neither one is good.

What do these whores and strange women do to men? The Bible tells you the truth.

  • “She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.”
  • These women increase the men who are breaking God’s laws. NOT GOOD.
  • Men, you need to wake up. Let’s say a woman won’t marry you and you want to be married.
  • It’s not time to give into her demands. It’s time to leave. No sexual relationships outside of marriage.
  • If a woman doesn’t want to get married, then obviously she doesn’t fear God.
  • She must fear other things and not God. You don’t want to be married to her anyway. Get away.

For example, some women might not want to be married because she thinks she may lose money in some way.

  • But she’s okay with giving her body away to strange men. But she doesn’t want to lose her money.
  • Money or body? They choose to give up their body to lust and choose money over their own body.
  • They will destroy their own body and choose money. That’s wrong. Think about that.

[36] 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. 19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

  • God takes fornication very seriously.

[37] 1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

  • God commands us to avoid fornication. He takes all of His commands very seriously.
  • To show you how serious, look at this Scripture.

[38] 1 Corinthians 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

[39] Numbers 25:4 And the LORD said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the LORD against the sun, that the fierce anger of the LORD may be turned away from Israel.

  • God says to “NOT COMMIT FORNICATION.” 23,000 of the children of Israel lost their lives that day.
  • The Lord commanded Moses to hang up the heads of those people. HE WAS FIERCELY ANGRY.
  • So, if you think you’re getting by with fornication and adultery, you better think again.
  • God is watching, and you will pay. SO STOP DOING THESE THINGS. And stop right now.
  • Now, we’re going to move to the last section of Proverbs Chapter 23.
  • And I want you to keep in mind that God Almighty wrote these things. Jesus Christ wrote these things.

[40] Proverbs 23:29-31 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.

  • I want to make this very clear. GOD HATES ALCOHOL.
  • If you can’t see that or understand that, something is really wrong.
  • Please name one thing GOOD that comes from drinking alcohol. NOTHING GOOD.
  • You can listen to wisdom from God, or wisdom from fools.
  • If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

“Who hath woe, who hath sorrow, who hath contentions or fighting? Who hath babbling?”

  • “Who hath wounds without a cause?” Make sure you are hearing all of these things.
  • Jesus didn’t change this in the New Testament. Jesus wasn’t a drunkard or a glutton.
  • It’s amazing that some preachers will teach that He was. They are nasty and vile preachers.
  • “Who hath redness of eyes?” Tell me. Who has all of these things?
  • Woe, sorrow, fighting, babbling, wounds without a cause, redness of eyes?

The Bible answers the question. “They that tarry long at the wine. They that go to seek mixed wine.”

  • This is speaking of drinks with a high alcohol content. This is speaking of what we call alcohol.
  • The Bible speaks of fruit juice that is called wine. This is not high alcohol content wine.
  • The mixed wine is the highly alcoholic wine. Jesus didn’t turn water into highly alcoholic wine.
  • I don’t want to hear that trash. That’s idiotic, ignorant, and foolish.
  • That would have been a sin to give all of those people alcoholic wine that goes against God’s words.
  • PROVERBS CHAPTER 23 IS THE WORD OF GOD. Jesus doesn’t break His own words.

He says, “Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his color in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.”

  • In general, red wines have more alcohol content than white wines. God says to not even look at it.
  • A wine with higher alcohol content has a richer and fuller body to the wine. It looks different.
  • Wines come from fruits. New wine will have very low levels of alcohol content.
  • You would have to drink a ton of new grape juice in order to be drunken. You would get sick first.
  • New grape juice tastes very good. It has a high sugar content. We are not to drink tons of it.
  • Winebibbers and gluttons would drink tons of it. We are commanded not to do this.

God Commands Us To Not Be Gluttons But What Happened With All The Fat Preachers?

God commands us to not be a winebibber, a glutton, or a lazy sloth and sluggard. That’s what all this leads to.

  • He tells us clearly that there are different types of wine. Don’t even look at the alcoholic one.
  • And alcoholic wine has less alcohol content that other liquor like whiskey and bourbon.
  • Since God tells us to not look at this alcoholic mixed wine, then He’s telling us the same for the others.
  • Does God command us not to drink alcohol because He doesn’t want us to have any more fun?
  • No, He’s protecting us from horrible things. Nothing good comes from drinking alcohol.
  • God even tells us what will happen. It’s not good. Let’s keep going in Proverbs Chapter 23.

[41] Proverbs 23:32-33 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

  • This is what will happen. You will be bitten like a serpent. You will be stung like an adder.
  • Am adder is a venomous viper or serpent. In other words, it’s going to hurt.
  • You might think it feels good at first, but it’s going to hurt. Your body will hurt.
  • Your life will go down the drain. Your family will end up hating you. Your children will hate you.

You will 100% without a doubt CAST YOUR EYES upon strange women. God hates this. He says so.

  • Your heart will utter perverse things. You will have nasty and wicked thoughts.
  • God takes this serious. You aren’t going to be able to say, “But God, I was drunken. That doesn’t count.”
  • IT ALL COUNTS. It was your choice. STOP DRINKING ALCOHOL. Do you understand that? It’s simple.
  • No excuses. You will be destroyed if you continue drinking alcohol.

[42] Proverbs 23:34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.

  • This is what it feels like to be drunken. It’s not fun. God is warning you. You won’t be sober.
  • You won’t make good decisions. God commands us to be sober.
  • But instead, you’ll be like one that lays down in the middle of the sea. You’ll be wobbling around.
  • You’ll be babbling idiotic things. You’ll feel like you are lying on the top of a mast of a boat in the sea.
  • Why would anyone want these things? NONE OF THESE THINGS ARE GOOD.

[43] Proverbs 23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

  • You can be beaten when you’re drunk and not feel anything. Is that what you want?
  • You’ll get in fights and won’t care. You’ll be a total idiot. God is watching.
  • He didn’t create you to be an idiot. STAY AWAY FROM ALCOHOL. STAY AWAY FROM DRUGS.
  • Stay away from anything that will keep you from being sober.
  • That includes so-called friends who want to offer you drugs and alcohol.
  • All of this will lead to many other issues and will ultimately lead to your death. Understand that now.

These drunkards will wake up after a night of drinking. They will have bruises.

  • They don’t know where they came from. They don’t remember anything that happened.
  • They have no clue if they raped a woman or fought with someone. They’ll drive while drunken.
  • They’ll kill innocent people with children and babies, and they don’t care.
  • “I WILL SEEK IT YET AGAIN.” That’s what they do over and over and over again. It’s a horrible life.
  • Stay away from it. God says, “You need to listen and be wise.”
