[2] The title of the sermon: “JONAH CHAPTER 3.”
- At the end of Jonah Chapter 2, we saw Jonah being vomited out upon the dry land.
- We know that Jonah was in the belly of the fish for 3 days and 3 nights.
- How did Jonah get to that point? He disobeyed the word of the Lord.
- He prayed unto the Lord to get him out of the belly of the whale. God saved him.
- Now, let’s see what happens next. Let’s start there in verse 1 of Jonah Chapter 3.
[3] Jonah 3:1-2 And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, 2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.
- The word of the Lord comes to Jonah the son of Amittai the SECOND TIME.
- How many times does God have to tell you something? He gives us His commands.
- We are saved. We know what He says. We understand what He says. But do we do what He says?
We don’t do what He says many times. Jonah got swallowed by a whale after one time.
- So, yeah, it’s time for us to obey His words. Now, it’s time for Jonah to obey the word of the Lord.
- What does God command Jonah to do this time? Same thing. “Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city.”
- “And preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.” What did God command Jonah the first time?
- Let’s go back to Jonah Chapter 1 starting in verse 1.
[4] Jonah 1:1-2 Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
- God wants Jonah to go to Nineveh to cry against it. “For their WICKEDNESS is come up before me.”
- So, God commands Jonah a second time to go and preach against the great city of Nineveh.
- They are doing wickedness within that city. PREACH AGAINST THEM.
God wants us to preach against wickedness. For example, there’s an upcoming drag queen parade.
- This parade is happening in our town. I’m going to preach against this trash.
- I’m going to see if there’s anything we can do to stop this event.
- Men dress up like women and make kids believe this is exciting and fun. They target our children.
- They groom our children. They want to turn God’s children into abominations to the Lord.
[5] Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
- Men who put on women’s clothing are abominations to the Lord God Almighty.
- Abominations are greatly hated by God. And when God hates something or someone, He’s right.
- Do you know why He’s right? BECAUSE HE IS GOD. We are His creation. He says what is right and wrong.
- The queers say, “But this drag queen event teaches inclusiveness. We are good people.”
Okay, so who is lying? God says that drag queens are abominations. He says they do evil.
- Drag queens and their foolish supporters say that God is wrong and what they do is good.
- They say that they teach children good and right things. Do they? Who is lying?
[6] Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
[7] Hebrews 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:
- God cannot lie. It is impossible for God to lie. We know the queers are the liars.
- Who will you trust? God and Jesus Christ OR drag queens and all the LGBTQ supporters?
- The LGBTQ supporters 100% target our children. Do you understand this?
- They are AFTER YOUR CHILDREN. They are after my children.
- We stand and preach against this wickedness.
[8] Luke 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.
- Let me be very clear. I am not the king of this country. We don’t have a king in this country.
- But if I were the king of this country, I would help these drag queens out.
- I would have millstones tied around their necks and cast them into the sea.
- Jesus says this would be better for them. Again, though, I am not king and I don’t have this authority.
Drag queens are men who dress up like women. But this is not all they do. They are sodomites too.
- They will do all of these other abominations listed within the Bible too.
- A man who lusts after another man is an abomination to the Lord God Almighty.
- This man who lusts after men is greatly hated by God. He says so within His words.
- And again, He cannot lie. WE WILL PREACH AGAINST SODOMITES.
[9] 1 Kings 14:24 And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
- The LGBTQ people say that what they do is good. God says they commit abominations.
- Again, who are you going to trust? Can you not see what they are doing to our world?
- God says to put them to death. Why? Because putting them to death gets rid of evil.
- If our government implemented the right laws, these people would be put to death.
- They lead our children to suicide. Are you okay with that? I AM NOT OKAY WITH THAT.
A news article I recently read from a liberal source was wondering why children suicide rates are skyrocketing.
- “DUH. I DON’T KNOW.” Everything you do, LIBERALS, is against God and His words.
- God gives us rules because these rules are best for us. Following His commandments is LOVE.
- Putting sodomites to death is the right law that should be implemented once again.
- If we followed God’s laws, the sodomites wouldn’t be taking over this country.
- But, again, we do not follow the word of the Lord. We ignored God’s words. We ran from them.
- And you can see the results.
[10] Deuteronomy 23:17 There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel.
- Do you think God said this to be mean and unkind? A sodomite will NEVER go to heaven.
- A sodomite will NEVER be saved by God. A sodomite is a reprobate and is rejected by God.
- You can trust what God says or not. THEY ARE NOT GOOD. God says they are abominations.
- Nineveh was a wicked place, and Jonah hated these people. But these people still had a chance.
- If they didn’t have a chance, God wouldn’t have asked Jonah to go preach against them.
In comparison, you didn’t see God commanding Abraham to go preach unto the inhabitants of Sodom.
- He didn’t ask Abraham to cry against Sodom. Why? They didn’t have a chance. They were rejects.
- The people of Nineveh were doing wickedness, but obviously, they still had a chance.
- God hates wickedness, and we are to preach AGAINST wickedness.
- God commanded Jeremiah to do something very similar.
- But he’s going to preach against his own people.
[11] Jeremiah 1:16-17 And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands. 17 Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.
- Before God sent Jeremiah to preach, He says: “GIRD UP THY LOINS. ARISE. SPEAK WHAT I COMMAND.”
- “BE NOT DISMAYED AT THEIR FACES.”
[12] Jeremiah 1:18-19 For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. 19 And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.
- God tells Jeremiah that He is protecting him. “I have made thee this day a defenced city.”
- “I have made thee this day an iron pillar and brasen walls.”
- Is anyone going to defeat Jeremiah? No, because God is on his side.
When God tells you to do something, and you do it, He will be there with you.
- What are you afraid of? Do you realize whose side you are on? There is no one like our God.
- “They shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee.”
- “FOR I AM WITH THEE to deliver thee.” God was with Jeremiah. God was with Jonah.
God will be with you. It’s time to preach against this trash happening in our world.
- God is sending Jonah to preach. We’ll see what happens. Does Jonah go this time?
- God says a second time, “JONAH, GO UNTO NINEVEH AND CRY AGAINST IT. What happens?
[13] Jonah 3:3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey.
- After all of the things that just happened to Jonah, he now arises and goes to Nineveh.
- He does according to the word of the Lord. Nineveh is an exceeding great city or a large city.
- How large? The Bible tells us that it would take 3 days journey to make it through.
- In today’s world, any city that would take 3 days to get through it would be a great city.
[14] Jonah 3:4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.
- When Jonah entered the city, he went about a day’s journey into the city.
- Remember, the entire depth of the city was a three day journey.
- So, Jonah went INTO the city. He didn’t go to the near edge of the city, cry out, and then leave.
He goes about 1/3 into the city, and he cries out:
- “YET FORTY DAYS, AND NINEVEH SHALL BE OVERTHROWN.”
- God commands Jonah to preach this to the people of Nineveh. He gives them 40 days.
- If they don’t turn from their wickedness, the great city of Nineveh will be overthrown.
[15] Jonah 3:5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.
- The people of Nineveh could have decided to ignore God, but they didn’t ignore Him.
- They believed God, and so they proclaimed a fast. They put on sackcloth. They humbled themselves.
- They weren’t going to eat. And was it just some of them or all of them in Nineveh?
- This is amazing because the Bible says that the greatest to the least of them did these things.
- They believed God. For example, our nation is filled with wickedness at this time.
You have probably half the people who believe it’s okay to fornicate and then murder babies.
- Why? They think the babies will ruin their lives. They commit fornication, and the baby takes the blame.
- They are so selfish that they would rather murder an innocent child than raise that blessing from God.
- Selfishness is at an all time high in this country. It’s sickening when everyone is for themselves.
- We cry out constantly to the people of this nation to stop their wickedness.
- They laugh. They think the word of God is a joke. The people of Nineveh didn’t. They believed God.
[16] Matthew 12:39-40 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
[17] Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
- Jesus Christ tells the scribes and the Pharisees that He is greater than the prophet Jonah.
- Jonah preached to them, and they believed God. Jonah was a great preacher of God’s words.
- He convinced an entire city, a great city, to believe God. And they did.
But who is the greater preacher? Who is the Son of God? Jesus says, “I am greater.”
- And the scribes and Pharisees won’t listen to Him. Jonah didn’t do a miracle.
- He simply preached God’s words. And the people listened.
- Jesus says, “You’re not getting a sign from me.” The men of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonas.
- The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgement with this generation.
- And these men will condemn the scribes and Pharisees.
The scribes and Pharisees believe themselves to be greater than others. They won’t listen.
- They definitely wouldn’t have listened to Jonah. Jesus says so right there. They won’t listen to Jesus.
- If Jesus can’t get you listen, you’ve got a HUGE problem. And they wouldn’t listen to Jesus.
- They are nothing like the men of Nineveh who were doing wickedness before Jonah preached to them.
- Jesus preaches to the scribes and Pharisees that they are wicked. But they don’t care. Nineveh cared.
- This is why we are to preach to people who are doing wickedness. They might listen.
God commands us to preach against wickedness. Most preachers don’t want to do this any more.
- They call it hate preaching. They proclaim that we should only preach love and a message of love.
- Well, God and Jesus Christ sure don’t EVER SAY THAT once. They command us to preach all of the Bible.
- And much of the Bible is negative preaching according to these so-called “men of God.”
- They say, “You shouldn’t preach against the homosexuals because that doesn’t help them.”
- They say, “you should preach that God loves them no matter what.”
- In other words, they want to preach lies. They are just like the scribes and Pharisees.
When you preach against the evil someone is doing, that person has a choice to make.
- They might make the right choice just as Nineveh did. Or, they might continue in the evil paths.
- It is their choice. And God chose the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
[18] 1 Corinthians 1:21-24 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. 22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
- The Jews wanted a sign. The men of Nineveh simply listened to Jonah’s preaching and believed it.
- They are much wiser than the scribes and Pharisees who thought they were the wisest of all.
- But they were actually fools because they wouldn’t listen to the preaching of Jesus Christ.
- There is no greater preacher than Jesus Christ. I can’t wait to hear His preaching face to face.
When Jesus is there preaching, it’s time for me to put my hand upon my mouth and listen.
- There is none greater. And Jesus tells us that He is a greater preacher than Jonah.
- And remember, Jonah’s preaching saved the great city of Nineveh. Can you do that? At least give it a shot.
- With God, all things are possible. Preaching to save people is what God wants from us.
- Will you do that, or not? There’s all kinds of ways to do this. Let’s do it.
Now, with Jonah, do you see why it was so important to God that he went to Nineveh and preached?
- God knows who can convince groups of people. Noah was a preacher of God’s words.
- I’m sure Noah’s preaching was far different than Jonah’s preaching.
- I am sure your preaching is far different than my preaching. God uses us all to save different people.
- You don’t have to preach like me. I don’t have to preach like you.
But we have these so-called “men of God” in churches today who think everyone should preach their false love, love, love message.
- Jonah didn’t preach that. Jonah preached they would be destroyed in 40 days. NOT SO LOVING.
- This was negative preaching and this saved the people of Nineveh. Very important to understand. FACT.
- Negative preaching saves. That’s why the Bible is filled with it.
- Yes, it makes you uncomfortable but get over it and get things right with God.
- You should now understand why God was going to make sure Jonah went to Nineveh.
- God’s will is for all people to believe. He wants to save everyone if they would simply believe Him.
[19] Jonah 3:6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.
- The people of Nineveh had a humble king. You can see this here. He heard the words of Jonah.
- He heard the words of the Lord. He gets up off his throne and completely humbles himself to God.
- He gets off the throne. He lays his robe away from him. He wears lowly sackcloth.
- He sits in ashes to show that he is humbling himself to the word of the Lord.
- In other words, he doesn’t want to be destroyed. He doesn’t want Nineveh to be destroyed.
Who, in their right mind, would want to be destroyed? Our current President must want to destroy our nation.
- He won’t listen to God’s words and preaching from God’s words. He supports abortion.
- He supports homosexuality. He supports teaching our children that they can change their gender.
- He supports evil in every way possible. He thinks he can make you take a vaccine.
- He makes you take sexual harassment training even though he sexually harasses people constantly.
Why won’t he listen to the Bible? Why won’t he take some time to read it and be a wise leader?
- Why won’t he be more like the king of Nineveh? Why won’t he humble himself to God?
- Here’s a message for our President that I hope and pray reaches him. Maybe he has a chance.
[20] Psalm 2:10-12 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. 11 Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
- President, “Serve the Lord with FEAR, and rejoice with TREMBLING.” You need to be very afraid.
- Continue to do evil, and God will come for you one day. Turn from this wickedness right now.
- Or, God will utterly destroy you. He will. KISS THE SON, or He will be angry. Reverence Him.
- Or, you will perish from the way. Just a tiny bit of God’s wrath is enough to annihilate you.
OR, you could put all your trust in Jesus Christ now, all 100%, and be saved today.
- Do I think our President is a saved man? No, I don’t. Do I think he might be a reprobate? Yes, I do.
- But, surprise me. Turn from this trash that you do, and start believing God’s words.
- Forsake all of your ways, and let’s do things God’s way.
[21] Jonah 3:7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:
- This king of Nineveh is a good king. He made a decree that no one would taste ANY THING.
- NO ONE would drink water. This included man and beast. He wasn’t playing around.
- The animals couldn’t eat and drink either. He proclaimed this. He published this throughout the great city.
This is a leader doing the right thing. For example, our President could come out and say:
- “There will be no drag queen shows while I am President.” The governors could follow.
- “There will be no drag queen shows while I am Governor.” The mayors could follow.
- “There will be no drag queen shows while I am Mayor.” The sheriffs and chiefs of police could follow.
- And so on and so on. The Representatives and Senators could make laws that there will be no more.
- The leaders of the news organizations could follow. All the churches could follow God’s words.
- Wouldn’t that be amazing if all the so-called “Christian” churches would follow God’s laws? Amazing.
[22] Jonah 3:8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.
- Now, isn’t that amazing? I would love to see this exact thing happen in this country.
- This country is similar to Nineveh, Sodom, and Babylon. Take a look out there today.
- Have you looked at Apple News. I scroll through it every once in a while. Sodom. Egypt.
- Jerusalem. All are spiritually wicked places. The United States is turning to wickedness.
- We aren’t turning from wickedness. We are turning to wickedness.
Why isn’t everyone proclaiming what this king proclaimed? “But let man be covered with sackcloth.”
- “And cry mightily unto God.” Don’t just cry out to Him but call out mightily.
- Why? Because God is going to destroy us. Do you believe what He says or not?
- Did you not see the patterns within the Bible? Did you not read the Book of Judges?
- Our current generations are forsaking the Lord God Almighty.
“Cry mightily unto God.” This is not a joke. The Book of Jonah isn’t a joke. Did you not see what happened?
- This is the truth in the Book of Jonah. This happened. Imagine what would have happened to Nineveh.
- Did you know that Nineveh was saved at this time, but a little later on God destroyed them.
- The next generations weren’t so serious about God’s words. They forsook God once again.
Read the Book of Nahum, which is very close to the Book of Jonah.
- This king says, “Yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from violence that is in their hands.”
- Violence is wrong doing. Doing wrong is anything against God’s words and commands.
- Watch what the Book of Nahum says.
[23] Nahum 1:1-3 The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. 2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. 3 The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet.
- God doesn’t acquit the wicked so be very careful out there everyone.
- The Lord revengeth. The Lord is furious. The Lord will take vengeance on His adversaries.
- The false preachers would rebuke Nahum: “Nahum that’s not a very loving message.”
- Yeah, well, this is the Holy Spirit speaking through Nahum, and HE IS GOD. Do you want to rebuke God?
[24] Nahum 1:4-6 He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. 5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. 6 Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him.
[25] Nahum 1:7-8 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him. 8 But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.
- He gave Nineveh time. Jonah didn’t want to go there. He wanted to see them destroyed.
- But there were people who could be saved. And God didn’t give up on them at that time.
- Now, with Nahum, He’s sick of it.
[26] Nahum 1:9-11 What do ye imagine against the LORD? he will make an utter end: affliction shall not rise up the second time. 10 For while they be folden together as thorns, and while they are drunken as drunkards, they shall be devoured as stubble fully dry. 11 There is one come out of thee, that imagineth evil against the LORD, a wicked counseller.
- God says, “AFFLICTION SHALL NOT RISE UP THE SECOND TIME.”
- How long do you think God is going to put up with the direction of our country? Think about that.
- We know better. Our President knows better. He allows these fools to advise him. It’s his fault.
[27] Nahum 1:12-13 Thus saith the LORD; Though they be quiet, and likewise many, yet thus shall they be cut down, when he shall pass through. Though I have afflicted thee, I will afflict thee no more. 13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
[28] Nahum 1:14-15 And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile. 15 Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off.
- God says, “FOR THOU ART VILE.” Drag queens are vile. They are nasty. God destroys Nineveh later on.
- But, with Jonah, He saves them because of their response to Jonah’s preaching.
- When you hear good preaching from God’s words, you should respond each time.
- This changes you into what God made you to be. It’s time to get back to God and His words.
[29] Psalm 51:7-10 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. 9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
[30] Psalm 51:11-13 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
- That king of Nineveh heard Jonah’s preaching, and he responded. It’s time to change things.
[31] Jonah 3:9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?
- He listened to Jonah’s message. “Who can tell if God will turn and repent?”
- “Who can tell if God will turn away from his fierce anger?”
- “Who can tell if God will not destroy us utterly?” Hey, we better do this. This is what the king said.
- And he sent his words throughout Nineveh. And the people listened. And they responded the right way.
- And now we get to the last verse in Jonah Chapter 3, and this verse is so important in today’s world.
- Why is it so important? Because there are so many false gospels out there.
Believing God and believing Jesus Christ is what saves you. Put your trust in the Lord. This saves your soul.
- Repenting of sin or turning from your evil ways does not save your soul. The Bible never says this.
- BELIEVING IS WHAT SAVES. The Bible says that Nineveh believed God in verse 5 of Jonah Chapter 3.
- With that said, let’s read verse 10 and finish this chapter strong.
[32] Jonah 3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
- We see 2 very important things here in this verse:
- 1) We see that God saw their works that they turned from their evil way.
- 2) God repented of the evil that he said he would do and he did it not.
Let’s focus on the first part of this verse first. They worked and turned from their evil way.
- Repenting of sin is a work. The Bible CLEARLY says so right here. You can’t argue against this. It’s clear.
- Pastors minimize the words of Jonah for some reason. One, named Terry Yeager, laughed at me.
- He said, “You had to go to the Book of Jonah to find that?” Are you a pastor?
Do you want to laugh at Jonah? Jesus Christ mentions Jonah many times. Jonah was an amazing preacher.
- Jonah has a Book of the Bible. You don’t. I laugh at you. Keep laughing at Jonah.
- You sure aren’t like the king of Nineveh who was humble. You are the opposite.
- We know for sure that repenting of sin is a work. Turning from evil is a work. It’s tough. It’s difficult.
- It takes work. And it is a good work. But we know that we aren’t saved by works.
[33] Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
- So, we know 100% for sure that we aren’t saved by repenting of sin. IT IS A WORK.
- Salvation of your soul is not of works.
- Before the people of Nineveh did these works, they first believed God. Now they are doing a good work.
What are they doing? They are turning from their evil way. This is what we should do.
- This doesn’t save our souls. We are already saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Now, turning from our evil ways will save us from God destroying us in this life. He can take our life away.
- He can make our life a living hell. King Saul is an example of a saved man who God took out of this life.
- This is what the Book of Jonah is teaching us, and yes, this is an amazingly important book TODAY.
- It wasn’t just important to Nineveh. It’s HIGHLY RELEVANT and important to us today.
- I want to read Jonah 3:10 again.
[34] Jonah 3:10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
- In the second part of this verse, we see that God, after seeing their good works, repented.
- Yes, God repented. The Bible says so right here.
- Many false preachers will say that repent always means to turn from you sin.
- Well, we know this is 100% false. It can mean to turn from your sin.
- This is one of the definitions of repent. But, in God’s case, we know that He doesn’t sin.
- He was going to overthrow Nineveh for doing wickedness. This is just and right.
For example, homosexuals should be put to death. This is God’s law. We don’t do this ourselves.
- The government should implement God’s laws along with His penalties. But they don’t.
- We don’t take the law into our own hands. We preach against these things.
- God’s words are right. They are truth. They are good.
- If God repented right here, we know that repent doesn’t always mean to repent of sin.
- God doesn’t sin. God doesn’t do wrong. He doesn’t break His own laws.
When you study repentance in the Bible, you need to get it right. You must study the whole Bible.
- You can’t ignore Jonah Chapter 3 and laugh it off as it is nothing.
- When something CLEARLY doesn’t match what you teach, you are wrong. God is not.
- You don’t get to minimize God’s words, ignore His words, and act as if you are Christian.
- Our souls are ONLY saved by believing on Jesus Christ. That’s it. Repenting of sin doesn’t save your soul.
- The men of Nineveh wouldn’t have repented of sin if they didn’t believe the words from God.
I hope this sermon on Jonah Chapter 3 opened your eyes to some new things in this small book.
- Again, it is a very small but extremely powerful book because it is the word of God.
- And, it blows my mind that so-called “Christian” preachers ignore the words within Jonah.
- We do not achieve everlasting life by repenting of sin. We receive everlasting life as a gift through faith.
What must I do to be saved? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved?
- Paul and Silas, in Acts Chapter 16, didn’t command the prison keeper to repent of all his sin.
- Simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved right now.
- Then, you SHOULD turn from your evil ways. But this doesn’t save your soul.
- But it could save your life right now so you can continue to live this gift of this life that God already gave you.
