[2] The title of the sermon today is “GENESIS CHAPTER 10.”

God Blesses Noah And His Three Sons

• Before we start in Genesis Chapter 10, let’s go over a quick summary of Genesis Chapter 9.
• In Genesis Chapter 9, we see God bless Noah and his three sons. He tells them to be fruitful and multiply.
• God tells them that every moving thing that lives shall be meat for them.

[3] Genesis 9:3-4 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. 4 But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

• We see the death penalty implemented by God in Genesis Chapter 9.

[4] Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

• We see several new commandments to Noah and his three sons.
• God wants them to be fruitful and multiply. Bring forth abundantly in the earth.
• Think about what just happened. Noah and his family alone survived the flood.
• The flood killed everyone else. You have a chance now to start over and do it the right way.
• You just saw the judgement of God on the entire world. That should change you.

[5] Genesis 9:12-14 And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud:

[6] Genesis 9:15-16 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.

• God promises that the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.
• He gives us the rainbow right there to remind us. And that rainbow still shows up in the sky for us.
• God puts those amazing rainbows that no one else could have created.
• These beautiful rainbows just pop up in the sky and people just ignore them like they’re nothing.

In Genesis Chapter 9, we see the sons of Noah go forth from the ark. Shem, Ham, Japheth.

• We see Noah become a husbandman or a farmer, and he has a vineyard.
• Remember what Noah and his family just went through. New chance to start fresh and stop the sin.
• It doesn’t take long for them to mess up.

[7] Genesis 9:21-22 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. 22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.

• Noah gets drunk from the wine. He is uncovered or naked within his tent.
• We talked about this in detail in the Genesis Chapter 9 sermon, but Ham was evil and wicked.
• Ham “SAW” the nakedness of his very own father.
• Doesn’t appear Ham had much fear of his own father or fear of God.
• If you ever tried anything like that with me, you better run. No fear of Noah or God.
• After everything that Ham had seen, he didn’t care.

There are many examples throughout the Bible of God showing His power and might through miracles.

• And that didn’t convince any of those people either.
• Exodus Chapter 32 is an example. God brings the people out of Egypt with many miracles.
• They get out of Egypt and they start to worship false gods immediately.
• They didn’t care about God. They had no fear of God even after seeing the miracles of great power.
• Don’t be like that. God gave you this life. Do something with it for Him. Show Him you understand.

[8] Genesis 9:24-27 And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. 25 And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. 26 And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. 27 God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant.

• We see Noah curse the son of Ham who is Canaan. We’re going to see more details in Genesis Chapter 10.
• Noah blesses Shem and Japheth. Notice that God says He will enlarge Japheth.
• We learned that the Gentiles come from Japheth in a recent study we did. The Bible is truth.
• The Gentiles have been enlarged. But God curses Canaan the son of Ham because of what Ham did.
• We also learn to not get drunken as Noah did. Good things don’t happen when you’re drunk.
• Very bad sexual things can happen. Don’t get drunken as Noah did.

[9] Genesis 9:28-29 And Noah lived after the flood three hundred and fifty years. 29 And all the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years: and he died.

• We see Noah die right at the end of Genesis Chapter 9. Noah lived 950 years. That’s a long life.
• Now, let’s move right into Genesis Chapter 10 starting there in verse 1.

[10] Genesis 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

• No one else was left after the flood. Just Noah and his family. Noah and his wife.
• Japheth, the oldest son, and his wife. Shem, the middle son, and his wife.
• Ham, the youngest, and his wife. And notice that Ham did have a wife. 8 people on earth after the flood.
• And unto the 3 sons of Noah were sons born after the flood. Everyone living today came from these 3.
• Everyone living today came from Noah and one of his 3 sons.

To study these 3 sons of Noah, I searched for their names throughout the Bible.

• I looked for Shem and found his name 17 times total. Genesis 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11.
• Then I found him in 1 Chronicles Chapter 1 and Luke Chapter 3 with genealogies. That’s it.
• You don’t see Shem in any other places. Then I looked for Japheth. 11 times total in the Bible.
• Genesis 5, 6, 7, 9, and 10. Then you see Japheth in the genealogies of 1 Chronicles Chapter 1. That’s it.
• What about Ham? That’s when you find out more when you study Ham. Let’s see.
• We find Ham in 16 different places in the King James Bible. Genesis 5, 6, 7, 9, 10. 1 Chronicles 1.
• But then we see Ham in some additional Scriptures. Let’s read some of those.

[11] 1 Chronicles 4:39-40 And they went to the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks. 40 And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide, and quiet, and peaceable; for they of Ham had dwelt there of old.

• In 1 Chronicles Chapter 4, we see the Bible talking about the tribe of Simeon of the children of Israel.
• This is much further down the line from Ham. The tribe of Simeon increased greatly.
• They needed pasture for their flocks. They go the entrance of Gedor unto the east side of the valley.
• The land was good land and peaceful. “For they of HAM had dwelt there of old.” So, what do they do?

Ham Was Destroyed Utterly Unto This Day

[12] 1 Chronicles 4:41 And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and smote their tents, and the habitations that were found there, and destroyed them utterly unto this day, and dwelt in their rooms: because there was pasture there for their flocks.

• HAM was destroyed utterly unto this day. The tribe of Simeon, a child of Israel, destroys Ham.
• When? In the days of Hezekiah king of Judah. No one of Ham was left there.
• Who was the son of Ham? Canaan. If we go back in time some from 1 Chronicles to Judges, we see this:

[13] Judges 1:16-17 And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people. 17 And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.

• As you can see, the tribe of Simeon played a big part in getting rid of the Canaanites and Ham’s descendants.
• Simeon was the second oldest son of Jacob or Israel. Their land was in the South with Judah.
• They were located closer to Egypt with the tribe of Judah. Remember that.
• All the inhabitants of the earth came from Japheth, Shem, and Ham.
• What else do we see about Ham in the Bible? We can learn even more than this.

[14] Psalm 78:40-43 How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! 41 Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel. 42 They remembered not his hand, nor the day when he delivered them from the enemy. 43 How he had wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Zoan:

[15] Psalm 78:44-46 And had turned their rivers into blood; and their floods, that they could not drink. 45 He sent divers sorts of flies among them, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them. 46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

[16] Psalm 78:47-49 He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycomore trees with frost. 48 He gave up their cattle also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts. 49 He cast upon them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, and indignation, and trouble, by sending evil angels among them.

[17] Psalm 78:50-52 He made a way to his anger; he spared not their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence; 51 And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham: 52 But made his own people to go forth like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.

• Now we see God smiting all the firstborn of Egypt. Do you see what that says in verse 51?
• “And smote all the firstborn in Egypt; the chief of their strength in the tabernacles of Ham.”
• Egypt and Ham go together within the Bible.

• I wanted to show this map so you can see where Israel was located, approximately, in the red.
• Then you see Egypt down on the lower left. You see Syria in the middle there.
• Mesopotamia up the right. Assyria further East. You see the Medes and the Persians on the far right.
• If you look closely, you’ll see Chaldea and Babylon right there in the middle right of the map.
• We’re going to talk about Babylon a little later in this sermon.
• Notice that Egypt is down by the Red Sea that God parted for the children of Israel.

[19] Psalm 105:23-24 Israel also came into Egypt; and Jacob sojourned in the land of Ham. 24 And he increased his people greatly; and made them stronger than their enemies.

• Israel or Jacob comes into Egypt and Jacob sojourns in the land of Ham. Ham’s area is Egypt.

[20] Psalm 105:25-27 He turned their heart to hate his people, to deal subtilly with his servants. 26 He sent Moses his servant; and Aaron whom he had chosen. 27 They shewed his signs among them, and wonders in the land of Ham.

• So, we see God using Egypt and Ham interchangeably. Egypt = Ham. God says so.
• And one last verse in the Bible using the word Ham:

[21] Psalm 106:21-22 They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt; 22 Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.

• Without a doubt, Ham is Egypt. So Ham’s descendants moved down into the area we call Egypt.
• Down by the Red Sea. With that said, let’s keep going in Genesis Chapter 10.

[22] Genesis 10:2-5 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. 3 And the sons of Gomer; Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah. 4 And the sons of Javan; Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim. 5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

• We did an entire Bible study on these Scriptures recently titled, “Who Are The Gentiles?”
• The Gentiles come from the sons of Japheth. Remember, the word ISLES is found in GENT-ILES.
• They went to the literal edges of the earth where the sea meets the land.
• They are an ancient people that go all the way back to Japheth.
• If you pay attention to the names of the sons of Japheth, you’ll see many of them mentioned throughout the Bible.
• Gomer and Magog. Remember these. Meshech and Tubal.

[23] Ezekiel 38:1-3 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:

• Now we’re in Ezekiel, which is much later than Noah and his son Japheth.
• You see Magog mentioned here. You see Meshech and Tubal. Let’s keep reading in the next verse.

[24] Ezekiel 38:4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords:

[25] Ezekiel 38:5-6 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee.

• Now we see Gomer and Togarmah here. We MUST keep all these names in mind as we study.
• They are very important in understanding prophecy and what’s happening within the Bible.
• Many of these names we’re reading about there in Ezekiel are sons of Japheth or Gentiles.
• So, don’t just skip over all the names. They are very important.
• We just saw Gog and Magog in Ezekiel Chapter 38. Magog was one of the son Japheth.
• The area that he lived was named after him.

[26] Revelation 20:8 And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea.

• Towards the very end of the Bible, we see Gog and Magog. There’s a lot of people.
• They go to the ends of the earth. They form the nations of the earth.
• They are in the 4 quarters of the earth.
• Now you know where the names behind the Battle of Gog and Magog come from.
• If you look again at Genesis Chapter 10 verses 2 through 5, we see additional names.
• Madai is not seen anywhere else in the Bible but the genealogies.
• Javan is seen a few additional times. Here’s one.

[27] Isaiah 66:19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.

[28] Isaiah 66:20-21 And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD out of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules, and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, saith the LORD, as the children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD. 21 And I will also take of them for priests and for Levites, saith the LORD.

• God says He will take of the Gentiles for priests and for Levites. Do you see that?
• We learn many things by simply studying the Scriptures with all of these names.
• You see Tubal and Meshech in Genesis Chapter 10 verse 2.

[29] Ezekiel 32:26-27 There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her multitude: her graves are round about him: all of them uncircumcised, slain by the sword, though they caused their terror in the land of the living. 27 And they shall not lie with the mighty that are fallen of the uncircumcised, which are gone down to hell with their weapons of war: and they have laid their swords under their heads, but their iniquities shall be upon their bones, though they were the terror of the mighty in the land of the living.

• I’m not going to go through all of these names because we’ll never finish Genesis Chapter 10.
• But we will spend time in the future studying many of these names.
• One MYSTERY from the Bible that God has made clear to us is that anyone can be saved.

Salvation Is To Anyone Who Believes On Jesus Christ

It doesn’t matter what tribe you come from. It doesn’t matter if you come from Japheth.

• Or Shem. Or Ham. Descendants of Ham could have been saved too. Japheth’s descendants can be saved.
• Shem’s descendants can be saved. Egyptians can be saved. ANYONE CAN BE SAVED.
• And that happens by believing on God Almighty as “THE SAVIOR” of the world.
• Simply believe what God says, and He will save you.
• Now, were most of the immediate descendants of Ham most likely wicked people? Yes, most likely.
• But it doesn’t mean that some of them weren’t saved and that some of them weren’t wicked.
• Let’s keep going in Genesis Chapter 10 verse 6.

[30] Genesis 10:6-8 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. 7 And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtecha: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. 8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

• Cush is the first son of Ham mentioned. So, if we look for Cush throughout the Bible, we find this:

[31] Isaiah 11:11 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.

• God has people in every nation. These are the people who believe on Him.
• People from Cush have been saved, and the nation of Cush started with a son of Ham.
• And you can study all of these people on your own throughout the Bible.

Again, Canaan is the fourth son of Ham that we see listed there. Canaan is the one who is cursed.

• The son of Ham who is named Canaan was cursed because of Ham’s wicked act against his father Noah.
• If you look for Canaan in the Bible, you’ll find 163 matches in 157 verses of the Bible.
• This includes Canaan, Canaanite, Canaanites, and so on. There’s a lot about Canaan in the Bible.
• The first mention of Canaan is in Genesis Chapter 9. The last mention of Canaan in the Bible is in Mark.

[32] Mark 3:14-17 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach, 15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: 16 And Simon he surnamed Peter; 17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder:

[33] Mark 3:18-21 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, 19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house. 20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread. 21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself.

• We see Simon the Canaanite is one of the 12 disciples. He was one of the good disciples who believed.
• I want to take a few minutes here to focus on Nimrod.

[34] Genesis 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

• Ham was Nimrod’s grandfather. Most likely, Nimrod wasn’t the greatest guy as Ham is his grandfather.
• Nimrod began to be a mighty one in the earth. We’ll see what that means here as we continue.

[35] Genesis 10:9-10 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. 10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

• Nimrod was a mighty hunter. Nimrod was also a king as it says, “And the beginning of his kingdom.”
• What was the beginning of his kingdom? Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh in Shinar.

• On that map, you’ll see Babylon to the middle right. You see Erech to the Southeast of Babylon.
• The tower of Babel was probably very close to the city of Babylon. Babel and Babylon are very similar.
• But notice where this kingdom is located. You have Egypt on the lower left.
• You have the Mediterranean Sea on the West side of the map.
• You have the Persian Gulf over on the lower right. The Arabian Desert in the South.
• If we put that on a map of today’s world, you’ll see this.

• Babel and Babylon would have been in present day Iraq.
• Babel and Babylon was a great city but now it’s nothing. It’s just ruins in a desert.

The name Nimrod is only seen 4 times in the Bible and 2 of those are in Genesis Chapter 10.

• So, there’s not much information about Nimrod, though, people like to make up fairy tales about him.
• Babel is a picture of Babylon. Nimrod was king over the one world government with one language.
• All of these evil and wicked leaders in the world today want to go back to that.
• For example, the pope wants a one world religion and one world government.
• The pope, who acts as if he represents God, can’t even understand Babel and Babylon in the Bible.
• God doesn’t want a one world government where all religions are respected.
• God doesn’t respect all false religions. He hates them. He doesn’t want us all speaking one tongue.

God Is “THE KING” Of This World And His Creation

HE IS THE KING OF THIS WORLD. We don’t need any other King of this world.

• Nimrod and Babel is a picture of the antichrist and his one world kingdom in Revelation.
• God came down and destroyed Babel, Babylon, and He’s going to do that again in Revelation.
• So, wouldn’t you think God doesn’t want a one world false religion with an evil leader?

[38] Genesis 10:11-12 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, 12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

• A son of Shem was named Asshur. Out of that land went forth Asshur and builded Nineveh.
• And these other cities named Rehoboth, Calah, and Resen. Resen is a great city.
• But it’s only mentioned one in the entire Bible right there in Genesis Chapter 10.

[39] Genesis 10:13-14 And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, 14 And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.

• Mizraim is another son of Ham. At this point, I want to handout a table showing Genesis 10 genealogy.
• Can I have some volunteers to hand these out? I’ll also put this up on the screen.

• So, if you go the right at the top, you’ll see Ham as a son of Noah.
• Then look right below Ham and you’ll find Mizraim as a son of Ham.
• That’s where we are right now in Genesis Chapter 10.

Notice that you see the Philistines came out of Casluhim, which is a grandson of Ham.

• Also keep in mind that their great grandfather was Noah. Do you think Noah had some family issues?
• Yes, he did. Ham was a family issue all the way back to Noah. After everything Ham witnessed.
• He didn’t care. No matter what God shows some people, they won’t care and will never be saved.
• The first talk of the Philistines we see is in Genesis Chapter 10, but the next we see in Genesis Chapter 21.

[41] Genesis 21:32-34 Thus they made a covenant at Beer-sheba: then Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the chief captain of his host, and they returned into the land of the Philistines. 33 And Abraham planted a grove in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of the LORD, the everlasting God. 34 And Abraham sojourned in the Philistines’ land many days.

• Abraham and Abimelech of the Philistines make a covenant over a well of water at Beersheba.

[42] Genesis 26:8 And it came to pass, when he had been there a long time, that Abimelech king of the Philistines looked out at a window, and saw, and, behold, Isaac was sporting with Rebekah his wife.

• We see tons of Scripture concerning the Philistines in the Bible. 296 times in 248 verses. Big subject.
• We see the most about the Philistines in 1 Samuel. Now you know where the Philistines came from.

[43] Genesis 10:15-18 And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, 16 And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, 17 And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, 18 And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.

• You can take a look at the table again and see all of these under Canaan.
• So we see all the enemies of the children of Israel as descendants of Ham. Do you see that?
• The Canaanites were cursed because of what Ham did to his father Noah.
• The Canaanites are another big subject in the Bible. 165 matches in 159 verses.
• Here’s the last instance of the Canaanites in the Bible.

[44] Acts 13:17-19 The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. 18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. 19 And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

• That’s Paul teaching in the synagogues. God destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan.

[45] Deuteronomy 7:1-2 When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; 2 And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

• You see some of the same peoples mentioned here in this Scripture as the sons of Canaan.
• We know that the Israelites didn’t utterly destroy all of them as God commanded.
• Let’s keep going in Genesis Chapter 10. As you see, there are tons of topics and subject to study.
• Chapters such as Genesis Chapter 10 are difficult because there is so much to go over in these chapters.

[46] Genesis 10:19 And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.

• The Canaanites were in possession of the promised land. The Israelites were to take it back.

• Here’s a map of the Canaanite nations. They are in the land of Canaan. This is God’s land for Israel.
• And here’s another map of the tribes of Israel after they took the land back.

• But they didn’t utterly destroy them all out as God commanded them to do.

• This is just another map zoomed out showing Canaan and the possible location of Sodom and Gomorrah.
• You’ll also see the Median kingdom that we see in Daniel. The Persians and the Medes. Babylonians.
• We see the Egyptians in the Southwest in Africa.
• Then we’ll see the Greeks and the Romans coming from the Northwest.

Now We Have A Basic Understanding Of The Sons Of Ham

[50] Genesis 10:20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

• Now you have a basic understanding of the sons of Ham from Genesis Chapter 10.
• They were, in general, enemies of the children of Israel. We all came from Noah and his 3 sons.
• They weren’t different races. They came from the same people.
• They were different nations because God confounded their language and divided them.
• They lived in different areas and had different skin colors.
• Doesn’t matter when it comes to salvation. God gives everyone the choice to be saved.

[51] Genesis 10:21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

• This is where we learn that Japheth is the elder son. He is the oldest son.
• Shem is the father of all the children of Eber. Shem is actually the great grandfather of Eber.
• If you look on your tables under Shem, you’ll see this. Shem, Arphaxad, Selah, and then Eber.
• But we see that the Bible calls Shem the father of all the children of Eber.
• Abraham is called the father to all those that believe throughout many generations.
• Abraham is in this same line with Eber. Abraham is the 10^th generation from Shem through Eber.

[52] Genesis 10:22-24 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram. 23 And the children of Aram; Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash. 24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

• Now we’ve moved on to Shem and his descendants. You’ll see all of these in the table.

[53] Genesis 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

• Down to Eber we see two sons born to him. Peleg and Joktan.
• In the days of Peleg, the earth was divided. What does that mean?
• Well, in the very next chapter God divides the earth by confounding their language.
• They were all ONE and gathered together at Babel.

[54] Genesis 11:8-9 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

• So, when did the tower of Babel occur and when did God divide the nations?
• He did this in the days of Peleg. You can actually calculate about how long this happened after the flood.
• The Bible gives us all the information we need to calculate this.
• Genesis Chapter 11 gives all those numbers. Peleg was born 101 years after the flood.
• “For in his days was the earth divided.”
• Sometime when Peleg was living, the tower of Babel division happened.

Eight People Multiplied Into Many Nations

There were only 8 people on the earth after the flood and they went forth and multiplied.

• Peleg is the fifth generation from Noah. There were thousands of people in the days of Peleg.
• But there weren’t millions upon millions. God scattered those thousands.
• The daughters aren’t listed in the table so we know there’s much more than just what’s listed here.
• But just with the sons, you can see how they would multiply fast each generation.
• Look how Noah multiplied just from this table. And all the sons and daughters aren’t listed.

[55] Genesis 10:26-29 And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah, 27 And Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah, 28 And Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba, 29 And Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

• We’re going on with Joktan, who was Peleg’s brother. Their father was Eber.
• And notice how Eber sounds like Hebrews.
• Most of these names you don’t see in the Bible except within the genealogies.
• We do see Ophir and Havilah in the Bible. But notice Cush also has a son named Havilah.
• Ophir is mentioned as a land of gold within the Bible.

[56] 1 Kings 9:27-28 And Hiram sent in the navy his servants, shipmen that had knowledge of the sea, with the servants of Solomon. 28 And they came to Ophir, and fetched from thence gold, four hundred and twenty talents, and brought it to king Solomon.

[57] 1 Chronicles 29:4 Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses withal:

[58] 2 Chronicles 9:10 And the servants also of Huram, and the servants of Solomon, which brought gold from Ophir, brought algum trees and precious stones.

[59] Job 22:24 Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

[60] Isaiah 13:12 I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.

• So we know that Ophir is related to the land of gold. And Ophir is a son of Joktan and grandson of Eber.
• Joktan had 13 sons so they are multiplying pretty quickly in their generations.

[61] Genesis 10:30 And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest unto Sephar a mount of the east.

• If we attempted to put Japheth, Shem, and Ham’s descendants onto a map, it would look like this.

• Now, do I know if that’s 100% correct? No, but it looks at least realistic from what we know.
• We know that the Gentiles came from Japheth. We know Egypt is related to Ham.
• We know Shem spread through this area based on what Genesis Chapter 10 says.

[63] Genesis 10:31-32 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

• After the flood, Genesis Chapter 10 tells us how the nations were divided AFTER the flood.
• When did that division happen? It happened at the tower of Babel.
• God confounds their language and they divide just as we’ve seen in Genesis Chapter 10.
• We’ll see more details of that within the next chapter, Genesis Chapter 11.
• This is a very difficult chapter with lots and lots of information.
• But I hope this sermon has helped you to see how to study the Bible better.
• Look up these names and locations. Learn how they were divided and where they went.
• Find the Scriptures for each. And yes, lots of study time to make sense of this entire chapter.
