[2] The title of the sermon: “BORN OF THE WATER.”
- Today we’re going to talk about a simple topic that so-called “Christian” pastors can’t understand.
- And they can’t understand the word of God because they are not of God.
- This topic is directly related to them. Are they born of the water? Let’s see what this means.
- I’m teaching this so you are never confused by these false preachers.
- We see and focus on the exact words from God Almighty.
[3] John 3:1-3 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- Nicodemus tells Jesus that he knows He is a teacher from God. So Jesus is going to teach him something.
- Jesus says, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- We are all born if we are alive. But we must be born again to see the kingdom of God.
- In this flesh, we are all dead. For the wages of sin is death. We’ve all sinned. Spiritually, we are dead.
Jesus is going to teach Nicodemus the difference in the things of this earth and spiritual things.
- This is fleshly things versus spiritual things. It’s so obvious and clear in John Chapter 3 if you are saved.
- “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- Let’s just say that you were hearing this for the first time and Jesus spoke these words to you.
- “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” What would you say back to Jesus?
- Jesus is the one who is relating this to birth. To be born again, you must be born the first time.
- BORN AGAIN means a second birth. Right? Keep all of this in mind as we continue in the Scriptures.
[4] John 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
- Nicodemus is smart enough to realize what Jesus is saying, but so-called Bible experts today can’t understand.
- “How can a man be born when he is old?” Obviously Nicodemus understand he was already born.
- “Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”
- A man must be born the first time in order to be born again.
- A man is dead in his sins until he is born again. If a man is never born again, he will not see heaven.
- But what exactly is Jesus going to teach us here? What does this mean to be born and born again?
[5] John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
- We know a man must be born and then born again to enter into the kingdom of God.
- A man must be born of water AND of the Spirit. A man must be born and born again.
- So, it’s very easy to see that being born of the water is being born the first time.
- But the ignorant false preachers who teach false doctrine attempt to twist these Scriptures.
- They are just like Satan who loves to twist Scriptures. And Jesus knew they would do this.
- And this is how God divides believers who have faith from those who will NEVER have faith.
- He put John Chapter 3 here so the unbelievers will stumble and fall flat on their face.
The words of Jesus Christ are very clear and easy to understand if you don’t have some pre-conceived false doctrine that you’ve been taught.
- This false doctrine comes from Catholics, Pentecostals, Church of Christ and all the other false denominations that teach baptism is required.
- They attempt to teach that Jesus meant that born of water means being baptized in water.
- Has Jesus mentioned anything about baptism in water to Nicodemus? He’s talking about birth.
- When you get baptized are you being born of anything?
- Are your sins being washed away because of this action you take?
When you are born of your mother, you are born the first time. You are born of the flesh. You are born of water.
- This is Jesus Christ teaching this. He never says that baptism is born of the water.
- You aren’t born of anything when you get baptized in water. DOES HE EVER SAY THIS?
- But, please listen closely to this entire sermon because there’s much more proof than this.
- You shouldn’t need more proof because the words of Jesus are clear and simple.
- You shouldn’t add to the words of Jesus Christ. He explains exactly what He means in the next verse.
- But let’s put verse 5 and verse 6 together so you can see this clearly.
[6] John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
- These are the words of Jesus and all the Scriptures go together.
- False preachers love to stop verses midway. When they hear what they want to hear, they stop.
- But you need to NEVER allow someone to stop the Scriptures. We read all of them.
- Jesus clearly explains right there what it means to be born of water and of the Spirit.
- There are 2 things in verse 5. 1) BORN OF WATER. 2) BORN OF THE SPIRIT.
- There are 2 things in verse 6. 1) BORN OF THE FLESH. 2) BORN OF THE SPIRIT.
I didn’t come up with this. The Bible isn’t difficult to understand unless you have false doctrine that is confusing.
- Clearly, being born of water is being born of the flesh. How can you say this? It’s simple and easy.
- You are in a sack of water in the womb. During birth, the water breaks.
- Does anyone in their right mind relate being born to being baptized in water?
- Does anyone in their right mind relate being born again to being baptized in water?
The Bible NEVER says anything like that ONCE. Jesus isn’t teaching about water baptism. Is He?
- He never says that He is teaching about being baptized in water. Never mentions it once here.
- He doesn’t tell Nicodemus he needs to be baptized in water.
- These unbelievers trip and stumble over the word of God.
[7] John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be 1) born of water and 2) of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is 1) born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is 2) born of the Spirit is spirit.
- It’s a FACT that you are born of water when you are born of the flesh. Who can argue with that?
- Jesus is teaching this right here. But they say, “Oh no, that’s not what this means.”
- “Jesus is teaching that you must be baptized in water to see the kingdom of heaven.”
- “So all people must be baptized in water or they will not go to heaven.”
- REALLY? Is that what you’re going to do with these Scriptures? Are you sure you aren’t a reprobate?
[8] John 3:7-9 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. 9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
- Nicodemus doesn’t know how he’s supposed to be born of the Spirit. How can these things be?
- “The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof.”
- “But canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth.”
- “So is every one that is born of the Spirit.” There’s not an outward showing of being born again.
- “HOW CAN THESE THINGS BE?” Did you notice how close we are to John 3:16? We’re close.
[9] John 3:10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
- These false preachers can read the Gospel of John and not know that water baptism doesn’t save you?
- Are they masters of the Bible and knowest not these things? Did you not read? Did you not understand?
- Jesus is asking Nicodemus, “You didn’t know that you have to be born of the flesh and of the Spirit to be saved?”
[10] John 3:11 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
- Jesus is telling Nicodemus that YE, which is plural, receive not our witness.
- He’s speaking of the Pharisees in general. Nicodemus was a Pharisee and ruler of the Jews.
- Jesus says, “Ye receive not our witness.” You aren’t seeing. You aren’t listening. You aren’t hearing.
- You aren’t trusting what I am telling you. This is what Jesus is teaching Nicodemus.
- And I ask for all the deceived people out there to listen to what He’s saying.
[11] John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
- Jesus teaches spiritual things by giving examples of earthly things.
- Being born is an earthly thing. Being born again is a heavenly thing.
- When you’re born again, you can’t see it. When you’re baptized in water, you can see it.
Obviously, Jesus isn’t speaking of water baptism as a spiritual thing because you can see it.
- He never mentions water baptism here. He isn’t speaking of water baptism.
- Now, watch what Jesus goes into next. Actually hear and understand what He is teaching.
- This is the important part of what He’s teaching Nicodemus. He’s going to teach him how to be saved.
[12] John 3:13-15 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
- The Son of man must be lifted up as the Savior of the world. He will be hanging on a tree and lifted up.
- He is the sacrifice for sins. He is the Savior of the world. It has nothing to do with water baptism.
- Water baptism doesn’t mean that you are born again. Being born again happens when?
- Jesus tells you when it happens in verse 15.
- “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
- Obviously, you are born again once you receive eternal life. This means you will enter into heaven.
- Being born again equates to receiving everlasting life.
Now read verse 15 again. This is Jesus Christ, who is the Son of God, teaching you how to receive eternal life.
- “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
- The Bible NEVER once says that water baptism is required for you to receive eternal life.
- Getting baptized in water is not faith. Getting baptized in water is an action you take.
- Getting baptized in water is a good, good work that you do. It does not save you.
- Water baptism is NOT a part of salvation because it is not faith.
- People with or without faith can be baptized and these false preachers have been baptized.
- And they have no faith IN Jesus Christ. They do not believe IN Jesus Christ.
I’ve tried my absolute best to explain in every way possible what it means to believe in Jesus Christ.
- Let me try another way because these people out there just don’t get it.
- It’s obvious they do not have faith. They don’t know what it means to have faith.
- The definition of faith is a complete trust or confidence in someone or something.
- Let me say this again: A COMPLETE TRUST OR CONFIDENCE IN SOMEONE OR SOMETHING.
- If I have faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of the world, I trust Him completely.
For example, let’s say Pam needs me to install doors in the house.
- If she has faith in me to install doors in the house, she knows that I will get the job done.
- She doesn’t doubt me at all. She knows that I will do what I say I will do.
- She says, “Josh, I believe in you. I know you can do it. I trust you can get the job done.”
- She isn’t saying, “I believe you exist, Josh.” She knows I exist. I’m with her every day.
- She’s saying she has faith in me to get the job done, and she KNOWS, without a doubt, that I can do it.
- She has 100% confidence in me to get this job done. That’s called believing in me.
When I say, “Callie, I believe in you to do a great job on your school work,” this means I have faith in her abilities.
- When I say, “Callie, I know you can get all of the Bible verses memorized for the year,” this means I believe in her abilities.
- I know she can do these things. This is faith in Callie to do what I know she can do.
Let’s say, as another example, that God the Father sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be “THE” sacrifice for sins.
- God the Father gave His Son a job to do. He said, “Jesus, I need you to die for the sins of the whole world.”
- Jesus responds, “Yes, I will do the job. I will get it done.” There is no one else that could get this done.
- Now, how do you respond because you need a Savior?
- Do you say, “Jesus, I believe in you as the Son of God.” Do you believe He can get the job done or not?
- Do you believe Jesus Christ already did all the work for salvation for you or not?
- Is He “THE” Savior of the world or not? Was His death, burial, and resurrection not enough to save you?
- Was He the sacrifice for sins or not? Is He the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for all your sins?
Or, do you think you have to do a work like water baptism to wash away all your sins?
- If you think you have to add works to the finished work of Jesus Christ, then you don’t believe in Him.
- For example, Pam may say she believes in me to install all the doors in the house.
- But let’s say that she doesn’t actually believe in me and have 100% total and complete confidence in me.
- Not a true story but let’s say she called my Dad and said, “Josh needs some help. He can’t get this done.”
- So Dad comes to help. This means she didn’t believe in me. She thinks I needed help.
- Let me be very clear here. Jesus doesn’t need your help. He is the Son of God. He did all the work.
Do you really think your water baptism compares to the death of Jesus Christ the Son of God?
- Do you think your water baptism compares to the burial of Jesus Christ the Son of God?
- Do you think your water baptism compares to the resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God?
- Do you think your water baptism compares to the soul of Jesus Christ going to hell?
- If you do, something is really, really wrong with you. Water baptism is a good work, but it’s not so difficult.
- It takes work to get baptized in water. It takes work from you as well as other people.
- But it doesn’t compare to the beating Jesus Christ received.
Water baptism is supposed to be all about Jesus Christ. It’s not about saving you.
- It’s a like figure of the death, burial, and resurrection of Him.
- It’s you proclaiming that you already believe on Jesus Christ.
- Do people get baptized in water that don’t believe on Jesus Christ? Yes, of course.
- A cousin of my wife got baptized at a church so he could get theme park tickets.
Many children will get baptized because someone else got baptized.
- This doesn’t mean they believe or don’t believe on Jesus Christ. We don’t know.
- And I’m not taking a guess either. If a child wants to be baptized in water, I’m not stopping them.
- If they tell me they believe IN Jesus Christ, then I’ll baptize them in water.
- But I will let them know that water baptism doesn’t save them. FAITH IN CHRIST saves them.
[13] John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
- Did these people not read the simple and clear words of the Bible?
- WATER BAPTISM IS NOT INCLUDED IN BELIEVING IN JESUS CHRIST.
- “Well, Jesus, I believe in you but I will get baptized in water just in case you need some extra help.”
- This isn’t believing in Jesus Christ ALONE.
- His death, burial, and resurrection is all the work required to save you.
Today, I proclaim that I believe “IN” Jesus Christ. I have complete and total 100% confidence in Him.
- “That whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
- Now, after reading John Chapter 3, would you say: “But, Josh, have you been baptized in water?”
- “Have you obeyed God all your life? Have you done many wonderful works in the name of Jesus?”
- Would you really ask me those things after reading the Gospel of John?
- Would you REALLY try to use John Chapter 3 to tell me that I must be baptized in water to be saved?
- That’s the chapter you’re going to choose? You fool. You serpent. You viper.
[14] John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
- God didn’t send His Son into the world to die for you so He could say a work of yours will save you.
- Are you not hearing all of these words? “But that the world THROUGH HIM might be saved.”
- Baptized in Christ means you FULLY BELIEVE ON HIM. You are fully immersed in HIM.
- You have put on Christ. Whose saving me? Whose protecting my soul? CHRIST. I’ve put on Christ.
- I haven’t put on my water baptism. It’s a dead work. It’s not alive. I can’t call on my water baptism.
- But I sure can call upon Jesus Christ, and He will hear me. A work cannot hear me.
[15] John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- If you believe ON Jesus Christ, you are not condemned. HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WATER BAPTISM.
- Being born of the water is actually being born of the water. You were born into this world.
- You aren’t born when you are baptized and you aren’t born again when you are baptized.
[16] John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
- The Pharisees were circumcised. This was a good work “IF” they first had faith in God.
- You can compare circumcision in the Old Testament to baptism in the New Testament.
- The deeds of the Pharisees were evil even though they were circumcised.
- Their so-called circumcision of the flesh was not a good work because they didn’t believe in Jesus Christ.
They didn’t believe in God the Father even though they proclaimed to believe.
- “THEIR DEEDS WERE EVIL.” Jesus said they were of their father the devil.
- If you’ve been baptized but you didn’t first have FAITH IN CHRIST, then your deed of water baptism is evil.
- If you can’t put your full confidence in Jesus Christ, your deeds will ALWAYS be evil.
[17] John 3:20-21 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
- If these evil men and women who believe water baptism saves them would just come to the light.
- THE LIGHT IS JESUS CHRIST. Your water baptism is not the light of the world.
- You aren’t the light of the world. If you would just come to the light and believe on Him, you would see.
Your water baptism can be done in the dark and it is not good.
- Or you can come to the light first, get baptized in water, and it is counted as a good work.
- And that’s the end of the story of Nicodemus there in John Chapter 3.
- Later in John Chapter 3, we see John the Baptist say this:
[18] John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
- The man who is baptizing people in water doesn’t ever preach that baptism in water saves you.
- He preached the right things. “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.”
- Believing occurs WITHIN YOUR MIND. It is not an action. It is not physical work.
- John says, “Behold, the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
- He never says, “Behold, get baptized in water to take away your sins.” NOT ONCE.
The clowns will say, “Baptism in water is not a work. It is obedience to the Gospel.”
- They will say that your obedience through a physical work is not a work.
- Why are people falling for these deceptions and this trash? It’s not the truth. It’s not light.
- I don’t obey God by doing all of these works for salvation. I obey God by believing on His Son ALONE.
- KEEP THIS IN MIND. Obedience to God must first occur through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Faith is not a work. If you think you are obeying God by doing works for salvation, you are disobedient.
What does it actually mean to be born again? These false preachers will say that baptism isn’t a work.
- They will say being born again includes water baptism. They will say that water baptism isn’t a work.
- They will say that water baptism is obedience to the Gospel and not a work.
- Okay, let’s see what the actual Scriptures say. Let’s search the Scriptures for born again.
- There are only 3 occurrences of that phrase in the entire Bible. Two are in John Chapter 3.
- The only other instance of “BORN AGAIN” is in 1 Peter Chapter 1. Let’s read this.
[19] 1 Peter 1:18-20 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
- The Pharisees tradition was that following the law would save them even though they broke the law.
- And they broke the law constantly. We are not redeemed with corruptible things and traditions.
- All of these religions teach all of their traditions. “Well, the early church did this or that.”
- I don’t care ONE BIT what the tradition of the early church in 300 AD was. Don’t care at all.
I care what God says in His words. We are not redeemed by the early church traditions.
- “Well, my father said I need to go to the altar to be saved. I must be baptized in water to be saved.”
- HEY, LISTEN, I DON’T CARE WHAT YOUR DADDY SAID. I DON’T CARE WHAT YOUR FOOLISH CHURCH SAYS.
- I care what God says, and I know what He says.
He says that I am redeemed by the precious blood of Christ. He is the Lamb without blemish and without spot.
- Our baptism in water doesn’t clean us spiritually. How in the world would that work?
- Water physically cleans us, but it doesn’t clean us spiritually. We are only redeemed through Christ.
- Baptized in water doesn’t equal baptized in Christ. Baptism in Christ is fully immersed in Him. Not water.
- God only uses physical things to help us understand spiritual things. But false preachers trip all over them.
- Watch what 1 Peter Chapter 1 says as we continue studying BORN AGAIN.
[20] 1 Peter 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
- Pay close attention to what the Scriptures say.
- This should end doctrine that teaches water baptism for salvation.
- “THAT YOUR FAITH AND HOPE MIGHT BE IN GOD.” Does this say your faith should be in water baptism?
- This is absolutely ridiculous. Water baptism is only showing outwardly that you believe inwardly.
- God already knows if your faith and hope is IN HIM before you are baptized.
[21] 1 Peter 1:22 Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
- This chapter has been talking about believing in God and Jesus Christ.
- It hasn’t mentioned one thing of water baptism.
- “Ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit.”
- When you obey the truth through the Spirit, you have purified your soul. This is the truth.
But what does this mean? There’s a colon at the end of the verse. God is going to tell us what it means.
- What does it mean to OBEY THE TRUTH?
- These false preachers say water baptism is obedience that saves you.
- Let’s see exactly what the Scriptures say, though.
[22] 1 Peter 1:23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
- Is water baptism corruptible? Take a look in the churches. Some people sprinkle water.
- The Bible teaches water baptism is full immersion in water. There’s a reason for that.
- But, of course, water baptism is corruptible. We are not born again through a water baptism.
- We are born again BY THE WORD OF GOD, which liveth and abideth forever. JESUS IS THE WORD OF GOD.
- “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
If you continue through 1 Peter Chapter 1 and head into 1 Peter Chapter 2, God explains what obedience means.
- The false preachers will say water baptism is required and not a work because it is obedience.
- I don’t even know what they are attempting to say. They don’t make any sense at all.
- Circumcision is a work. Baptism is a work. Repenting of sin is a work. Prayer is a work.
- Going to church is a work. We are not saved through works in any way, shape, or form.
- What is the obedience that will save us? What is disobedience?
[23] 1 Peter 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
- He that believeth on Him shall not be confounded. Make sure you see this next part. Pay close attention.
[24] 1 Peter 2:7-8 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
- Those who believe IN Jesus Christ are being obedient. The Scriptures CLEARLY say this.
- Believing in Jesus Christ does not equal believing in water baptism. How can someone say different?
- Water baptism does not equal JESUS CHRIST. Duh. And these fools call me names???
- These fools tell me that I’m sending people to hell by preaching water baptism doesn’t save you.
- I preach Christ for salvation. I don’t preach water baptism for salvation. And I’m the evil one???
Notice what this Scripture says: “But unto them which be disobedient.”
- Beliving on Jesus Christ = obedience. Not believing on Jesus Christ = disobedience.
- These people stumble at the word, being disobedient.
- I can assure you that I don’t stumble over these words. Born of water doesn’t equal water baptism.
- Only fools would say something like that and teach others the same.
- These people who teach water baptism saves are clearly DISOBEDIENT.
- The entire Bible is about being saved through Jesus Christ. We aren’t saved through anything else.
[25] 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
- Let me be very clear. Water baptism is not required for salvation.
- Should you be baptized after you have faith in Jesus Christ? YES. This is very important.
- But this doesn’t save you at all. It plays ZERO PART in salvation. Jesus is 100% salvation.
- A fable says that water baptism is a part of salvation is some way, shape, or form.
Being born of the Spirit does not mean water baptism in any way, shape, or form.
- Being born again EQUALS being born of the Spirit.
- Jesus said, “Marvel not that that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”
- The Holy Spirit is God so being born of the Spirit means being born of God.
[26] 1 John 5:1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
- Is that not very clear Scripture? “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God.”
- The right Jesus doesn’t teach that baptism in water will save you.
- If your Jesus teaches that, you have another Jesus. This means you don’t believe in JESUS CHRIST.
- Your Jesus isn’t Christ. You made up another Jesus and that Jesus doesn’t save you.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth who was born in Bethlehem is the right Jesus.
- The one who died, was buried, His soul went to hell, and arose from the dead is the right Jesus.
- The actual SON OF GOD is the right Jesus Christ. The Jesus in the Bible is the RIGHT ONE.
[27] 1 John 5:4-5 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?
- Faith overcomes the world. Believing that Jesus is the Son of God means you are born of God.
- This means you are born again. This means you are born of the Spirit.
- No mention of water baptism anywhere in these Scriptures.
[28] John 1:12-14 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
- When you believe on HIS NAME, you are born of God. You are born again. There is no other requirement.
- How many times does God have to teach this within the Bible? Yet, the clowns don’t get it.
- “Which were born, not of blood, nor the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but of God.”
- You aren’t born again through water baptism. This is the will of the flesh and the will of man.
In order to get baptized, God doesn’t make you do it. Some false preachers say this.
- They say, “Getting baptized in water is a work of God.” Is that the truth?
- These people obviously haven’t baptized anyone. Does God do all the work for baptism?
- Now, when you believe, is this a work that you do? NO, IT HAPPENS IN YOUR MIND!!!
- You simply change your mind and believe. Obviously, there is a difference in believing and water baptism.
- Water baptism does not equal faith. BELIEVING IN CHRIST EQUALS FAITH.
So, the argument the fools make about water baptism being required for salvation is full of holes.
- For example, they use John Chapter 3 for their proof that water baptism is required to be saved.
- Right? Don’t they? They say that being born of the water means that you must be baptized in water.
- They say that you MUST be baptized in water in order to be saved and receive everlasting life.
- So, we bring up the thief on the cross next to Jesus. They love to minimize the thief on the cross.
- “Well, that was a different time. That was before Jesus died on the cross. That was the Old Testament.”
So, where is John Chapter 3 in the timeline? You want to use that as your proof, but you are a fool.
- Nicodemus in John Chapter 3 was BEFORE the thief was on the cross next to Jesus.
- Jesus and his disciples were already baptizing people. Jesus Himself didn’t baptize anyone.
- So, the fools will say that “the thief on the cross didn’t need to be baptized in water.”
But Jesus taught Nicodemus that he must be baptized in water to be saved??? Huh??? Doesn’t work, clowns.
- If Jesus was teaching Nicodemus that he had to be baptized in water to see the kingdom of God, then the thief on the cross next to Jesus had to be baptized too.
- He wasn’t baptized. He believed on Jesus while he was on the cross. He didn’t have time to be baptized.
- BUT JESUS WASN’T TEACHING NICODEMUS THIS.
- He was teaching that he must believe on the Son of God. He doesn’t mention water baptism once.
[29] Mark 16:15-16 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
- The false preachers love to cut out the Scriptures. They don’t want to finish verse 16.
- They always say, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.” And they stop there.
- Is that a true statement? If I believe and am baptized, will I be saved? Yes I will be saved.
- If I believe in Jesus Christ, will I believe that my baptism will save me? NO, I WON’T.
- I will know that it’s Jesus Christ who saves me because I BELIEVE IN HIM.
If I believe in Jesus Christ and am not baptized, will I be saved? The thief on the cross was saved.
- There are many, many others in heaven right now who were not baptized.
- Anyone who believes IN Jesus Christ will be saved. GOD SAYS SO.
- If someone believes and isn’t baptized in water, they will go to heaven when they die.
- How many times does the Bible have to say this?
- What sends you to hell? “But he that BELIEVETH NOT shall be damned.”
- Here’s what the false preachers like to do.
[30] Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
- They think that means you must be baptized in water to be saved.
- But the end of the verse that they ignore tells you that it’s all about the believing part that saves.
- God put this here for them to trip and stumble over and they do. They show how foolish they are.
- They fall flat on their face. Jesus baptized no one Himself. But He did die for you.
- His blood poured out for you. His soul went to hell for you. His body was buried for you.
- He arose from the dead for you. Many of these fools will teach that water baptism is a part of the Gospel.
No, water baptism is a picture or a like figure of the death, burial, and resurrection.
- But water baptism doesn’t save you. Is getting baptized in water part of the Gospel?
- The Bible answers this directly. And then you can tell me the answer. Here you go.
1 Corinthians 1:12-16 Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas
[31]; and I of Christ. 13 Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul? 14 I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius; 15 Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name. 16 And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
[32] 1 Corinthians 1:17-19 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. 18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
- Jesus Christ sent Paul NOT TO BAPTIZE but to preach the Gospel.
- If water baptism saved you, why in the world would Jesus send Paul NOT to baptize?
- You getting baptized in water is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ. You must believe the Gospel.
- Then you are saved. Then you SHOULD get baptized in water afterwards.
The preaching of the cross is the power of God unto us which are saved.
- We don’t preach that water baptism saves. The Bible never once commands us to preach this.
- We preach that the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ saves. WE PREACH CHRIST.
[33] 1 Corinthians 1:20-21 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? 21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
- Let me say this again: “It pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
- My job is to preach the word of God so people will believe what God says.
- When people hear preaching and these people believe in Jesus Christ, they are saved.
- Obviously, this entire chapter would make no sense if water baptism was a part of salvation.
- Once you believe in Jesus Christ, you are saved. This is what the Bible teaches.
Ask the false preachers, what must I do to be saved? When will I actually be saved?
- God says that you are saved once you believe “IN” His Son. This is the truth.
- But the false preachers won’t proclaim that truth. They preach another gospel which is not THE Gospel.
[34] 1 Corinthians 1:22-24 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: 23 But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness; 24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
- We preach Christ crucified. We don’t preach water baptism as a part of salvation. This is disobedience.
- Only the children of disobedience would preach that water baptism saves you.
[35] Ephesians 5:6-7 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. 7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
- To summarize, being born of the water in John Chapter 3 does not equal water baptism.
- Being born of the water is being born of the flesh. Being born again is being born of the Spirit.
- You must be born of the water and of the Spirit. You must be born and then born again.
- It’s that simple and easy to understand.
[36] Ephesians 1:12-13 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
- Once you believed, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. BORN AGAIN. Saved. Sealed.
- Delivered. Redeemed. It’s over. You have everlasting life. Water baptism is AFTER this happens.
- There is no other way, and the Bible doesn’t describe any other way.
Let’s pray.
