Today, I want to talk about hell. When you think of hell, what is the first thing that crosses your mind?
Hell shouldn’t bring good thoughts to mind. It’s not a good place. Happiness and joy will NOT be found there EVER.
I’ve heard many different ideas and thoughts of about hell. Just the other day I saw a post by a mom I know. She told her daughter that hell is where the devil lives. That is not correct at this point in time.
I’ve also heard people say that hell is a state of being asleep. Others say it is similar to here on earth, however, they say God is not present and there is no fun there.
When we tell our children and others about hell, we should stick to the truth from the Bible. We MUST stop spreading lies about hell even if we don’t think it will hurt.
Hell is described all throughout the Bible. I won’t give you all the verses, but I will give you enough that you know you don’t want to end up in hell.
Isaiah 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
In this verse, we see hell being described as a pit.
Luke 16:23-24 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
Now we see there is torment and flames in hell. Just a little drop of water will cool a tongue that is in hell.
Matthew 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
We see that there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth in hell.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Now we see that hell will be a lake of fire in the future. This is a literal lake of fire.
So, these were just a few Bible verses to help you understand what hell is like. Now let’s talk about who is in charge of hell.
Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
In Revelation 1:18, Jesus is speaking. Jesus is the one who holds the keys to hell. This means that Satan is not in charge of hell. Satan does not run hell.
Who runs hell? Who is in charge of hell? Jesus Christ. This is what the Bible actually teaches. God will throw anyone who won’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ into hell. It’s very easy to avoid hell by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Job 1:7 And the Lord said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the Lord, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
If we read the whole Bible, we will learn that Satan is not in hell right now. He will be cast into hell at the end. But right now, Satan is not in hell. He is deceiving the nations on earth right now.
Revelation 20:10 And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
In the end, Satan will be bound for a thousand years in hell. He will then be let loose for a little while and then be cast into the lake of fire and brimstone. Hell is a lake of fire and brimstone.
Lastly, let’s look at who will be present when people are thrown into hell for eternal torment.
Revelation 14:10-11 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
If you noticed, this Scripture told us they will be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb. When talking about Jesus, he is refereed to as the Lamb.
Jesus is the Lamb of God. He will be present when people are being tormented in hell.
So, in conclusion, we have learned that Satan is not currently in hell nor does he run hell. We have also learned that hell is a place of fire and torment day and night. There’s no escaping hell once you are there.
Hell can be avoided easily, though.
The final topic we discussed was who was in charge of hell. Jesus holds the keys to hell and will be present when people are thrown into hell.
How do you avoid hell? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Put all your trust on Jesus to save you, and Jesus will save you right now at this moment.
