❓ Question Submitted:
Also, do you advocate that ancient Hebrews were White?
What is your teaching on this?
You previously stated that it did not matter but I’m just curious as to whether you take a particular position on this topic like Graham. Or whether you are completely neutral?
Interestingly, there are videos of Billy Graham on YouTube where he expresses his views on this topic in various sermons he preached in the 1970’s and 1980’s.
Just type in Youtube these words:. “Billy Graham Jesus was not white”.
The video clip is on YouTube.
Billy Graham preaches on camera and appears to suggest that the original Hebrews were people of color.
The sermon was videotaped in 1971.
The video clip is in YouTube.
His follow up lecture given at Berkeley campus in 1972 was entitled “ancient Israel – an overview”.
It was audio taped and distributed at Evangelical churches here in the U.K entirely for free by local pastors around 1986 – 1987.
❌ No, the Ancient Hebrews Were Not White
I do not believe the ancient Hebrews were white in the European sense, nor do I teach or promote any skin-color-based superiority. In fact, I am completely against racism in all its forms. Skin color is nothing more than a difference in pigment—it has no bearing on value, righteousness, or standing before God.
🗺️ The ancient Hebrews lived in the Middle East:
- Modern-day Israel, Palestine, Egypt, Jordan
- Olive-toned to darker skin, like many in the region today
- Not Anglo-European
Acts 17:26 – “And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth…”
We all came from Adam, and after the flood, from Noah and his sons. Racial differences are environmental and genetic, not spiritual. God doesn’t define us by skin—He defines us by faith.
✝️ What About Jesus?
Jesus Christ was:
- A Jew from the tribe of Judah
- Born in Bethlehem, raised in Galilee
- Likely had brown skin, dark hair, and Middle Eastern features
Isaiah 53:2 – *”…he hath no form nor comeliness…”
📖 God deliberately gave no physical description of Jesus. Why? Because He did not want people to worship an image—He wants them to believe in His righteousness.
2 Corinthians 5:16 – “…though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.”
✅ We don’t worship His skin—we worship what His blood accomplished:
- Washed away sin
- Redeemed the soul
- Gave eternal life
Galatians 3:16 – “…to thy seed, which is Christ.”
🕊️ Jesus is the promised seed of Abraham, sent to save all nations, not just one race.
⚠️ Why I Reject Billy Graham’s Views
Billy Graham promoted:
- Ecumenism with Rome
- A watered-down Gospel
- Compromised doctrine
🤝 1. What Is Ecumenism with Rome?
Ecumenism is the movement to unite all Christian denominations—and often other religions—into one global faith system. When we speak of ecumenism with Rome, we are referring to the push to unite Bible-believing Christians with the Roman Catholic Church, which preaches a false gospel of works, sacraments, and tradition.
Galatians 1:9 – “If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.”
The Catholic Church teaches:
- Salvation through baptism, confession, and the Mass
- That Mary is a mediatrix and co-redeemer
- That the Pope is the Vicar of Christ on earth
All of this contradicts the Bible. True believers are called to separate from false doctrine—not join hands with it.
2 Corinthians 6:17 – “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord…”
Ecumenism is not unity in truth. It’s compromise with error, and Billy Graham helped lead that movement.
💧 2. A Watered-Down Gospel
Billy Graham often preached a message that focused on God’s love and forgiveness without adequately emphasizing:
- The reality of hell
- The exclusivity of faith in Jesus Christ alone
- The dangers of false religion and false doctrine
He blurred the lines of the Gospel by:
- Inviting Catholic priests to counsel people at his crusades
- Affirming salvation for those in false churches
- Minimizing the requirement to believe only on Christ for salvation
This kind of vague, emotionally driven presentation appeals to the world—but it lacks biblical clarity. The true Gospel is clear:
Acts 16:31 – “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…”
John 14:6 – “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
⚠️ 3. Compromised Doctrine
Billy Graham compromised truth by:
- Partnering with apostate denominations and global religious leaders
- Avoiding controversial doctrines to maintain public appeal
- Treating the Pope and Roman Catholicism as Christian allies
Rather than standing firm on doctrine, he emphasized broad unity over sound teaching. This laid the foundation for many of today’s watered-down churches that avoid hard preaching and refuse to rebuke sin or expose error.
2 Timothy 4:3–4 – “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine… And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”
📼 While some may find value in his views on ethnicity, I do not rely on his teachings. My position is grounded in the King James Bible, not in videos or sermon tapes from the 1970s.
📜 God’s Covenant with Israel Was Broken
God chose Israel:
- Delivered them from Egypt
- Gave them the Law
- Made a covenant with them
But they broke the covenant.
2 Kings 17:18 – “…the LORD was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight…”
Jeremiah 3:8 – “…I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce…”
✝️ God judged and removed both Israel and Judah. But He wasn’t finished—He had a greater plan: Spiritual Israel.
🙌 What Is Spiritual Israel?
Not about race, but faith.
Romans 2:28–29 – *”He is not a Jew, which is one outwardly… but inwardly…”
Galatians 3:7 – *”…they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.”
🌎 Anyone—regardless of skin color—can become part of Spiritual Israel:
- By faith in Jesus Christ
- As a new creature
- Born again into God’s spiritual family
Galatians 6:15–16 – *”…peace be on them… and upon the Israel of God.”
Galatians 3:28 – *”There is neither Jew nor Greek… ye are all one in Christ Jesus.”
🚫 Racism, Black Hebrew Israelitism, white supremacy—all of it is unbiblical. No skin color gets anyone into heaven.
Revelation 7:9 – *”…a great multitude… of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues…”
God is building a family from every color, every tribe, every language.
✅ Final Answer
No, the ancient Hebrews were not white.
But that doesn’t matter. What matters is:
- They were sinners in need of salvation—just like us
- Skin fades, but Christ’s blood speaks forever
- Anyone can be saved by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ
Romans 10:12 – *”For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.”
🕊️ Don’t follow race. Follow Christ.
