“The Gospel in the Garden: Belief Before the Fall”
Genesis 2:16–17 • Genesis 3:1–7 • John 8:44

📜 [SCRIPTURE: GENESIS 2:16–17]
Genesis 2:16–17
And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
✝️ POINT 1: SALVATION ALWAYS STARTS WITH BELIEVING GOD’S WORD
God gave Adam and Eve one simple command.
Believing it = life.
Doubting it = death.
Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
They had to believe what God said, just like we do.
🐍 POINT 2: THE DEVIL ALWAYS ATTACKS THE WORD FIRST
Genesis 3:1
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made.
And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Satan’s first weapon was doubt: “Hath God said?”
He still uses the same tactic today.
🚫 POINT 3: UNBELIEF BROUGHT SIN AND DEATH
Genesis 3:6
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise,
she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
Their sin wasn’t just eating—it was disbelieving God’s warning.
John 8:44
…he [the devil] was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth…
⚡ POINT 4: GOD’S RESPONSE WAS MERCY AND PROPHECY
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed;
it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Even right after the fall, God points to Jesus Christ—the seed who would destroy the serpent.
The Gospel was already being preached in Genesis 3.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree… by whose stripes ye were healed.
Acts 16:30–31 …Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

From the beginning, the issue has been the same:
Will you believe God’s Word—or believe the serpent’s lies?
Life or death.
Choose life.
