[2] The title of the sermon: “THE DEATH, BURIAL, AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST.”
- We know that we must believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ to be saved.
- But, what does this mean exactly? There are many false preachers out there deceiving people.
- And many others are minimizing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- I’m going to explain what I mean here today so you aren’t deceived in the future at any time.
[3] 1 Corinthians 15:1-2 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; 2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
- Paul says, “I declare unto you THE GOSPEL.” He says, “By which also ye are saved.”
- If we believe the Gospel, we are saved. So, let’s make sure we have THE GOSPEL right.
- Let’s see exactly what the Gospel is that saves us today. I want to make sure you believe this.
[4] 1 Corinthians 15:3-5 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve:
- In verse 3 we see that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
- In verse 4, we see that Jesus Christ was buried, and that He rose again the third day.
- And then we know there were many witnesses to his resurrection.
- But, there is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Let’s make sure you know exactly what the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ means.
- What does THE DEATH of Jesus Christ mean? Do you believe in His death?
- Or, do you attempt to split Jesus into different parts and say that He was God and man and only the man part of Him died?
- If you say that part of Jesus didn’t die, do you believe in the death of Jesus Christ?
- You tell me. “Christ died for our sins.” Do you believe that if you say only part of Jesus died?
Here’s the human mind reasoning and this is a quote:
- “I am confused about the saying that Jesus died. I am asking who died on the cross?”
- “I believe that God cannot, did not, and will not die which means the human inside of Jesus died.”
- “If that is true, then a human paid for all human sins. If that is true, then what did God do?”
- “Or, why did God have to become flesh since God did not die? The flesh died.”
- “What was the purpose, or the need, for God to become flesh if God cannot die?”
- “What sacrifice did God endure if God cannot die?”
We talked about this in the last sermon: “How can these things be?”
- How can God live forever, Jesus died, and Jesus is God? Everyone seems to be asking these questions.
- I’ve had several people ask me similar questions. Churches aren’t teaching faith.
- Churches aren’t teaching anything. Preachers are decreasing faith in their congregations.
- How? By saying that the God part of Jesus didn’t die. The Bible never says anything like that.
The Bible clearly tells us that Jesus is the Son of God and He is God. He has always been God.
- He came forth from God and is not like us. He has no father, mother, and didn’t descend from anyone.
- All things were created through Him, by Him, and for Him. God was manifest in the flesh.
[5] 1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
- We know this speaks of the Son of God, Jesus Christ. We know that He is God.
- He is called Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
- He is the Alpha and Omega. He is the beginning and the end. He is the mighty God.
- He is the Father of everlasting, which means that He owns everlasting life.
- This means He is everlasting. He has no beginning, and He has no end.
- And you can continue to ask, “Well, then how did Jesus die?”
You must believe that He is God, and you must believe that He died for our sins according to the Scriptures.
- Did He die for your sins or not? Is Jesus God or not? Here’s the truth.
- Jesus is God, and He died for the sins of the whole world. How is this possible?
- Great is the mystery of Godliness. I don’t know how it’s all possible, and I don’t need to know.
- I simply need to believe the words of the Bible. Jesus is God. Jesus died for all our sins.
If you say that only the human part of Jesus died, you’re saying that only part of Jesus died.
- This is very dangerous, and I would be very careful of any preacher who repeats these things.
- Seminaries teach that trash, and they have no Scripture to back any of that up.
- This fairy tale comes from within their mind in an attempt to sort things out for God.
- If God wanted that part sorted out, He would have put it in the Scriptures.
- We believe God and His words. Jesus is God, and He died for our sins.
Do you believe that Jesus died for your sins? God was manifest in the flesh. Jesus has always been God.
- He died because the Bible says that He died over and over and over again.
- Why do people have such a hard time believing this? They think the Scriptures contradict, but they don’t.
- When this happens, though, we know God is right. We don’t create a false religion.
- We don’t become Jehovah’s Witness or Mormons to fix all the so-called contradictions in the Bible.
Ask me the questions: 1) Is Jesus God? 2) Can God die? 3) Did Jesus die for all our sins?
- And I will answer: 1) Yes, Jesus is God. 2) No, God cannot die. 3) Yes, Jesus died for all our sins.
- And you might say, “Well, these things can’t be.” And I will say, “Yes they can, and they are.”
- I won’t make up a story saying that Jesus is part man and part God and only the man part died.
- Do you know why I can’t make up that story and feel good about it?
- Because there are other Scriptures that tell us that the soul of Jesus Christ was not left in hell.
- Many will say that only the body of Jesus died and was buried.
So, we go back to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Are you sure you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
- I’m saying these things because pastors of churches will preach against the death, burial, and resurrection according to the Scriptures.
- They preach some other death, burial, and resurrection which is not the truth of the Bible.
- And they are very good at this. They are very cunning and deceitful.
- And other good preachers might even be deceived by this.
- They just agree with them because they think they might be labeled a heretic.
I actually don’t care what anyone says about me. I care what God says, and I want to teach the right things.
- There’s more to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ than just the physical things.
- People who do not have the Spirit of God won’t understand the spiritual things.
- People who aren’t saved might just teach the physical things of the death, burial, and resurrection.
- Physically, YES, His body died and His actual body was wrapped and buried in a tomb.
- We must believe in this. His physical blood spilled out. Some people will say that’s all that was needed.
- Was His blood required for us to be saved? Yes, His blood is required for us to be saved.
And they will teach that “IT IS FINISHED.” What if nothing else happened after His blood spilled out for us?
- Would we be saved today? You can answer that question for yourself. I will answer it as we continue.
- What does it mean to be saved? His body was a sacrifice for us, but our bodies will still die physically.
- Will our bodies be saved at some point? Yes, our bodies will arise from the dead.
- All of this is directly related to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
We know from the Bible that we have a spirit, a soul, and a body.
- Similar to God as three in one, we are three in one. The spirit is the life within us that comes from God.
- The spirit is the life. Knowing that, let me ask you a question: “Can the spirit die?”
[6] Ecclesiastes 3:21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
- The spirit of man, when it leaves the body, goes upward. ALL OF THEM.
- The spirit or the life within an animal goes downward to the earth. Those spirits don’t go up.
- The spirits of animals don’t return to God. But, we’re talking about the spirits of men. The life of men.
[7] Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
- The spirit or life of man returns unto God who gave it. ALL LIFE RETURNS TO GOD WHO GAVE IT.
- All spirits, once they leave the body, return to God because He owns life. That life is His.
- This is why He can take life. This is why He kills and makes alive. We know there’s more than just our body.
- But many preachers are only preaching the physical parts of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We know that Jesus gave up the ghost or the spirit or the life within Him. We know that Jesus died. His body died.
- His spirit left His body and returned to the Father in heaven. The Father is God. Jesus is God.
- He’s not like us. How can God die but not die? We know that Jesus was dead.
[8] Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
- Jesus Himself tells us that He was dead. “I am He that liveth, and was dead.”
- Jesus died, but He for sure didn’t stay dead. “Behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen.”
- The spirit of Jesus left Him, and His body died. His body hung as dead upon that cross.
What else happened, though? We know His spirit, or life, returned to God in heaven.
- So, we know what happened to His spirit or life. He was dead so His spirit returned to God above.
- We know the spirit of man goeth upward, and Jesus was a man. He is called the SON of God.
- His Father is a man. He is called FATHER. We know the physical body of Jesus had no life within it.
[9] John 19:30-31 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. 31 The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
[10] John 19:32-35 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: 34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. 35 And he that saw it bare record, and his record is true: and he knoweth that he saith true, that ye might believe.
- “But when they came to Jesus, and saw that He was dead already, they brake not His legs.”
- A soldier pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.
- We know for sure that Jesus was dead. His body was dead. HIS RECORD IS TRUE.
- Does the blood of Jesus Christ alone save us? Yes. But all of this combined saves us too.
- How is this possible? All things are possible with God. Our human mind may have trouble understanding.
I don’t try to work all of these things out in my head because I can’t. I trust God’s words.
- He wants us to simply trust His words and not the fairy tales these preachers and pastors come up with.
- When you trust in a fairy tale that doesn’t match the Bible, you will be further deceived.
- And the deception gets worse and worse. You start to believe in many things that are very weird.
- The body of Jesus was dead. The spirit of Jesus returned to God in heaven.
- What happened to the body of Jesus?
[11] John 19:38-39 And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus. 39 And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight.
- Joseph of Arimathaea took the body of Jesus Christ. Nicodemus also came. Two men.
- They knew the body of Jesus Christ was dead. A dead body doesn’t move, walk, talk, or anything else.
- The body of Jesus Christ was dead because the spirit or the life had left Him.
- I am teaching you the truth because this is what the Scriptures teach.
[12] John 19:40-42 Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury. 41 Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid. 42 There laid they Jesus therefore because of the Jews’ preparation day; for the sepulchre was nigh at hand.
- His body was laid in a sepulchre or tomb. The Bible says His body was buried.
- I don’t know what the sepulchre or tomb looked like but His body was buried in the sepulchre.
- We believe all of these things. Jesus is God. Jesus died on the cross. His body was buried.
- But we know that Jesus has a soul too. Our souls are who we are.
[13] 1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- This Scripture tells us that we have a spirit and soul and body. God sanctifies us wholly in due time.
- We know Jesus Christ has a soul. The Bible speaks of the soul of Jesus Christ.
- When the Bible speaks of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Bible is not just speaking of the physical things such as the body only.
- But preachers will continue to ignore all of these things. His body died and His spirit went to God in heaven.
- Do you believe these things? His blood spilled out for us. Do you believe these things?
[14] Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
- The word of God is piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.
- I want to focus on that. The spirit and soul is divided for people who completely die.
- When the Bible says that Jesus Christ died and was buried, this means more than you might think.
- We don’t think of just the physical things. We think spiritually because we have the Spirit of God.
- He teaches us all things. He shows in the Scriptures how all of these things work.
[15] Luke 16:22-23 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
- Notice that verse 22, the first one there, says that the beggar died and was carried by the angels.
- We know that Abraham went to heaven when he died just like Elijah and Moses did.
- They appeared at the transfiguration of Jesus Christ. They were with Jesus Christ. They were in heaven.
- They went to be with Jesus Christ. To die is gain. “For I am in a strait betwixt two.”
- “Having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better.”
When a saved person physically dies, their soul and spirit doesn’t need to be divided.
- Their body is buried, but their spirit and soul goes upwards. This is not being buried spiritually.
- Hell is in the center of the earth or down. Heaven is above. Buried is down.
- When an unsaved person dies or a reprobate, their spirit is divided from their soul.
- The spirit returns to God and their soul is buried in hell. Their soul is not considered alive when in hell.
- They don’t have the spirit or the life. Their spirit left their soul. They no longer have life.
Look closely at verse 22. The Bible says that the beggar died and was carried by the angels.
- We know that this means carried to heaven where Abraham was located.
- Abraham didn’t go to hell. He didn’t go to a compartment in hell. We proved all these things before.
- Elijah and Moses weren’t taken out of Abraham’s bosom in hell for the transfiguration of Jesus Christ.
- Verse 22 doesn’t say that the beggar died and was buried. This is important. He didn’t go down.
- His soul wasn’t buried in hell. But verse 22 says that the rich man died and was buried.
“And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham AFAR OFF, and Lazarus in his bosom.”
- Buried in hell. You can take whatever you want from this, but this isn’t a coincidence.
- The words in the Bible aren’t a coincidence. Every word of God is pure.
- The beggar died. His body died. His soul was not buried in hell.
- The rich man died. His body died. His soul died in hell. His spirit was taken from him forever. No life in hell.
- Remember, the spirit is the life. When God divided the spirit from the soul, this is a dead soul.
- This means you will go to hell. My spirit will never be divided from my soul because I have believed.
His soul was buried in hell. And when hell is relocated to the lake of fire, your body and soul will be buried forever.
- Imagine being thrown into a lake of fire. You are buried. You can’t stay above the fire.
- You are buried in the fires of hell. HELL FIRE. This is not a joke either.
Yes, I believe when the Bible says the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the death, burial, and resurrection that this includes the soul of Jesus Christ.
- His body died. His soul died. His spirit returned to God in heaven. That was the life within Him.
- He was dead. His soul took the sins of the whole world. God separated His spirit from His soul.
- His body was buried in a tomb. His spirit returned to God in heaven. His soul went to hell.
- I don’t know why this is so difficult to believe. Believing what God says is not difficult. It’s easy.
- But some people won’t just do this. What happened to the soul of Jesus Christ? His soul died in hell.
If not, where did His soul go? The only other answer people have is that His soul went to a compartment in hell.
- Okay, if the compartment is in hell, then His soul went to hell. They will say, “Yeah, but it was paradise.”
- Then His soul wasn’t in hell then. But you say that paradise is in hell even though the Bible never says this.
- Paradise is the third heaven where God dwells, and God doesn’t dwell in hell. He is in heaven above.
- The Bible clearly says that the soul of Jesus Christ was not left in hell. This means His soul went to hell.
[16] Acts 2:30-32 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; 31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. 32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
- Many preachers will say that one doesn’t need to believe the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell.
- Well, Peter was preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ here in Acts Chapter 2. He didn’t leave this out.
- Are you 100% sure that one doesn’t need to believe the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell to be saved?
- The Gospel of Jesus Christ includes the soul of Jesus Christ not being left in hell.
Who are we to say that someone doesn’t need to believe this part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
- How much do we need to know about the Gospel? How much of it do we need to believe to be saved?
- Let me ask you a question. If you believe in God, why won’t you believe all of His words?
- The concepts I am teaching today are not difficult to understand. Those words right there are His words.
- If you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, you will believe what verse 31 says.
- What does verse 31 say to you?
“He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ.” Stop right there.
- We are speaking of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- We are being taught the definition of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- The Bible tells us that most people will go to hell. Why? Because they are deceived. Are you deceived?
- What do the perfect Scriptures tell us right there? We are speaking of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that HIS SOUL WAS NOT LEFT IN HELL.”
- “Neither his flesh did see corruption.” So, there are two parts to the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- If I say that you must only believe in one of these parts, am I teaching the resurrection of Christ?
- Or, would I be teaching only part of the resurrection of Christ or even some other resurrection?
- We teach the whole Bible or nothing. We cannot leave out the first part of the resurrection of Christ.
- So, if you don’t believe the soul of Jesus Christ went to hell, do you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ?
I seriously wouldn’t take a chance on that, and that’s why I’m preaching this sermon.
- Because I know that most Christians out there today don’t believe the soul of Jesus went to hell.
- To me, this means they don’t believe in the death of Jesus Christ.
- They don’t believe in the burial of Jesus Christ. They don’t believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Again, some other Jesus is being preached about in the “Christian” churches.
Verse 32 says, THIS JESUS hath God raised up. Do you have the right Jesus? We’re talking about the real one.
- We’re talking about the one seated on the right hand of the Father in heaven.
- We’re talking about “THE JESUS” who can save you FOR REAL. The other versions can’t save you.
- If the soul of Jesus Christ didn’t go to hell with all your sin, are you sure your Jesus version can save you?
- Listen, this isn’t a joke or something to say: “Well, this doesn’t matter for salvation.” ARE YOU SURE?
- Because I’m telling you that I’m sure that it does matter.
[17] 1 John 2:2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
- If I die with sin, or I die without being saved, what is my penalty? Does just my body die?
- My spirit returns to God who gave me the life that I’ve had. What happens to my soul?
- This is where false religion constantly comes into play. What happens to your soul?
- It’s simple. My soul would go to hell forever without a chance to ever get out.
He took my penalty, and my penalty is death and hell. My penalty would be to burn in hell fire.
- But He is the propitiation for our sins. Yes, His body suffered on the cross. But what about His soul?
- Our bodies suffer and die in this life because of our sin. The body of Jesus suffered.
- But what about our souls? Did the soul of Jesus Christ go to hell or not? Did He suffer in hell or not?
- Would I suffer in hell when I died with my sin? Yes, I would. Jesus took our place. He took our penalty.
- He took the sins of the whole world onto Himself.
- And yes, this means His body and His soul. We don’t minimize either.
[18] 1 Peter 2:21-24 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: 22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: 23 Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: 24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
- He bare HIS OWN SELF our sins in HIS OWN BODY on the tree. His soul also went to hell with our sin.
- His body suffered. His soul suffered. But His soul was not left in hell. His body didn’t remain in the tomb.
- His soul didn’t remain in hell. This clearly means that His soul went to hell.
- For a saved person, all of these things are not difficult to believe. Yes, Lord, I believe.
So, the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is quite simple to understand.
- This isn’t calculus, linear algebra, or differential equations. This isn’t dynamic systems.
- This isn’t fuzzy logic, signal processing, quantum mechanics, thermodynamics, or electromagnetic theory.
- The death, burial, and resurrection includes both the body and soul of Jesus Christ.
If you believe in His death, you believe that His body died and His soul died. He was dead.
- A dead body is a body without a spirit. A dead soul is a soul without a spirit. A soul without a spirit is in hell.
- If you say that He wasn’t fully dead, what are you actually saying? You’re saying He didn’t die.
- If you believe in His burial, you believe that His body was buried in a tomb and His soul was buried in hell.
If you believe in His resurrection, you believe that His body arose from the tomb and His soul arose from hell.
- For Jesus to walk out of that tomb alive, He needed His body, His spirit, and His soul.
- God raised Jesus from the dead. Who raised Jesus from THE DEAD? God did.
- The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The body of Jesus was quickened.
- His spirit returned. His soul returned. He arose from the dead on the third day. He was dead.
Now, do you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ?
- Or, do you believe something else? There are many weird teachings out there.
- And when I say weird, I mean weird when compared with the Bible.
- Many people will think what I am teaching is weird because they only hear lies in churches and seminaries.
- DOCTOR THIS SAYS THAT. I don’t care what the Pharisee and scribes say.
- The Bible teaches us what God means when He says the death, the burial, and the resurrection.
And all of this applies directly to us. The death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ is fully explained.
- We’re dead but not dead. Our body will die, be buried, and arise from the dead. God will raise us.
- Our soul is saved now. Our soul will never go to hell and burn. Our spirit will never leave our soul.
- Jesus already paid for all our sin, but our bodies will still die. Why is this? We continue to sin.
- Even after we’re saved, we continue to sin in our flesh but not in our soul.
The Holy Spirit seals our soul, but our body still dies. Think about these things with the Scriptures.
- For the wages of sin is death. We still sin but we have an advocate with the Father, JESUS CHRIST.
- So, for anyone out there preaching that we don’t have to believe that the soul of Jesus went to hell to be saved, are you 100% sure?
- I’m not preaching against many of these people, but I want them to realize that they might just be repeating something they heard from someone else.
- We must search the Scriptures daily. We must study to show ourselves approved unto God.
- Are you sure the soul of Jesus Christ going to hell isn’t of utmost importance in the Gospel?
- Shouldn’t we be preaching the whole Gospel to get people saved and to ensure their salvation?
The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
- There’s more than the physical. There’s the spiritual too. Death of Jesus Christ is body and soul.
- Burial of Jesus Christ is body and soul. Resurrection of Jesus Christ is body and soul.
- The Bible clearly says so. Please don’t leave out these most important things.
If you’re saved, you should believe what God says. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you’ll believe His words.
- Why not? Because the wisdom of man is better than the wisdom of God??? NO WAY. Use the Spirit of God.
- We choose the wisdom of God and trust what He says. You have the Spirit of God. Believe Him.
Let’s pray.
