[2] The title of the sermon today is “JOHN CHAPTER 4.”

Nicodemus Came To Jesus By Night

• In John Chapter 3, we saw Nicodemus come to Jesus by night.
• We saw Jesus preach to Nicodemus. You must be born again to enter into the kingdom of heaven.
• You’ve already been born once because you’re alive and listening right now.
• Well, you’ve got to be born again to enter into the kingdom of God.

[3] John 3:5-6 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

• Being born of the water is being born of the flesh. The water breaks. The baby is about to be born.
• Being born of the water is being born of the flesh. Being born of the Spirit is being born of the spirit.
• So, to be saved, you must be born again and have the Holy Spirit living inside of you.

[4] John 3:9-10 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? 10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?

• Nicodemus was a leader of the Pharisees. That means he was a religious leader.
• You might compare him to some pastor of a mega church.
• Jesus rebukes him, “You’re a master of Israel and you don’t know?”
• Hey, all of these things were handed down over time through the Scriptures. “Have ye not read?”
• Jesus says, “I’ve told you all these things, but you won’t accept what I’ve told you.”
• And then he tells Nicodemus how to receive everlasting life. He tells him how to be saved.

[5] John 3:14-15 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

• Jesus tells Nicodemus over and over again in John Chapter 3 how to be saved.
• Jesus tells us clearly how to be saved. “Whosoever believeth in him has eternal life.”
• And Jesus says it many different ways. There’s only one requirement to be saved and go to heaven.
• “You’re a master of Israel and you don’t know? You’re a church pastor and you didn’t know?”
• Yeah, there’s only one way to heaven and that’s believing on the Lord Jesus Christ to save you. That’s it.

Then we see John the Baptist continuing to baptize with his disciples towards the end of John Chapter 3.

• His disciples are telling John that Jesus and his disciples are baptizing too. All men are coming to them.
• John the Baptists says, “Hey, I told you that I am not the Christ. I am sent before the Christ.”

[6] John 3:29-30 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled. 30 He must increase, but I must decrease.

• John the Baptist is just a friend of the groom. His joy is fulfilled that the groom is here. Jesus is here.
• He knows that he must decrease, but Jesus Christ must increase. Same for your life.
• What are you doing to increase Jesus Christ in your life? Get rid of everything else. Decrease.
• But increase Jesus Christ. Get the Bible more in your life. Get church in your life more.
• Get soul winning in your life more. Increase Jesus Christ and stop worrying about yourself so much.
• At the end of John Chapter 3, we saw this:

[7] John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

• That’s easy to understand. Believe on Jesus and you have everlasting life at that moment.
• It’s just like being born again. You’re born into this world in a split second.
• And you can be born again in a split second by changing your mind and believing on Jesus Christ.
• Believe not on Jesus and the wrath of God will abide on you. And yes, that’s fair.
• With that said, let’s start there in verse 1 of John Chapter 4.

[8] John 4:1-3 When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, 2 (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) 3 He left Judaea, and departed again into Galilee.

• Jesus knows that the Pharisees have now heard he had baptized more than John the Baptist.
• Though, Jesus didn’t baptize anyone himself. We know 100% for sure that Jesus didn’t baptize anyone.
• In other words, it’s not so important to make it to heaven. But Jesus does tells to believe on him.
• The Apostle Paul wasn’t sent to baptize but to preach the Gospel. The Gospel saves. Baptism doesn’t.
• But yes, baptism is important because it’s the first good work you should do AFTER you’re saved.
• Jesus leaves Judaea where the Pharisees are located and goes to Galilee.

Jesus Must Go Through Samaria

[9] John 4:4 And he must needs go through Samaria.

• In order to get from Judaea to Galilee, Jesus must go through Samaria. That’s what the verse means.
• Here’s a map showing this. And notice the city of Sychar on the map because it’s in the next verse.

• Jesus is leaving Judaea in the South and heading towards Galilee in the North.
• He’s got to go through Samaria to get to Galilee.

At this time when Jesus lived here on earth, we know the Romans were in charge.

• The Romans setup provinces in this area. You can see these provinces on the map.
• Galilee, Samaria, Judea, Decapolis, and Perea.
• This area was Israel in the time of King Saul, King David, and King Solomon.
• After King Solomon it was split into Israel in the North and Judah in the South.
• 2 tribes went to Judah and 10 tribes went to Israel. Judah and Benjamin were in the Southern Kingdom.

The people who lived in JUDAH were called Jews.

• The Northern Kingdom of Israel was conquered first. They were mixed in with other people,
• And other false religions. Now, in this time of Jesus Christ, the Jews thought they were pure.
• They saw the people of Samaria as a lesser people. They looked down on the Samaritans.
• At the time of Jesus Christ, the Jews didn’t have any dealings with the Samaritans.
• We’ll see this in just a minute, but keep in mind that Jesus is going through Samaria.

[11] John 4:5 Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

• This city is near to the land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. This land could be the land in Genesis 33.

[12] Genesis 33:18-20 And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city. 19 And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money. 20 And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.

• Shechem and Sychar are very close on the map that you saw earlier. Jacob bought this land.

[13] Joshua 24:32 And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

• So that matches John 4:5 very well. This is the same area that Jesus is coming to in John Chapter 4.
• This is the parcel of land that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. The bones of Joseph are located there.

[14] John 4:6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

• Jacob’s well is in this place. And it’s still in use at this time. Jacob gave that well to his family.
• And remember, Jacob is named Israel. God gave him that name in Genesis 32:28 and Genesis 35:10.
• Remember, Jesus left Jerusalem. He is now in Sychar of Samaria. This is about 40 miles.
• 40 miles is a good journey. Jesus was tired. He was wearied with his journey. He sat on the well.
• The sixth hour is six hours from 0600. This means it’s about 1200 or lunch time.

[15] John 4:7-8 There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink. 8 (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)

• Jesus is asking this woman of Samaria for water because he doesn’t have anything to draw the water with.
• It’s a deep well so you have to be able to draw the water out of the well.
• He didn’t say, “Oh, please you beautiful young lady, please allow me to drink of the water.”
• No, he said: “GIVE ME TO DRINK.” But notice, Jesus gets tired and he gets thirsty.
• Jesus didn’t have a special body at this time where he didn’t get tired, hungry, and thirsty. He is a man.
• We see from verse 8 that his disciples were not with him. Jesus is alone at Jacob’s well with this woman.

The Jews Have No Dealings With The Samaritans

[16] John 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

• Keep in mind that this is a woman in Samaria. It doesn’t mean she isn’t of Israel. Jacob is Israel.
• This is Jacob’s well that he gave to his family. This area was the land of Israel.
• She responds to Jesus, “Why are you talking to me? You’re a Jew, and I’m not. Jews don’t talk to me.”
• “But you’re going to ask drink of me?” Again, we see that the Jews wouldn’t deal with Samaritans.

[17] John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

• She says, “You’re asking a drink of me?” Jesus says, “If you knew who was asking you, you would ask me to give to you.”
• Jesus says, “If you knew the gift of God, you would ask me for that gift.”
• So I’m telling you today, if you actually knew what the gift of God was like, you would stop everything in your life right now and ask God for that gift.
• The gift of God is LIVING WATER. It’s not water from a well that quenches your thirst.

[18] Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

• The gift of God is eternal life and that gift only comes through Jesus Christ alone. HIM ALONE.
• But notice how Jesus took the conversation straight to the topic of God and his gift to all.
• We need to do that in our life with everyone we come into contact with.

[19] John 4:11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?

• She calls him Sir. The woman doesn’t quite get what Jesus is saying yet. She responds.
• “Where are you going to get that living water when you don’t have anything to get it with from this well?”
• She continues speaking with Jesus in the next verse.

[20] John 4:12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?

• If she only knew who she was speaking with. We need to watch how we talk all the time too.
• She says, “Oh, so you think you’re greater than our father Jacob? He made this well and gave us this well.”
• “Jacob himself drank of this well. His children and his cattle did too. And you’re greater than him?”

[21] John 4:13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

• Jesus says, “Hey, the water in Jacob’s well right there is just normal water.”
• “If you drink of that water, you’ll simply need more of that water again. It’s just normal water.”
• Jesus continues in the next verse, verse 14.

[22] John 4:14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.

• The water that Jesus has for you springs up into everlasting life. That’s good water. You’ll NEVER thirst.
• That’s a ONE TIME thing right here. That’s what Jesus is teaching. You’ll never be thirsty again.
• If it’s a process, why would Jesus preach this to that woman right there?

You don’t need to come back to a well over and over again because you’re still thirsty.

• You don’t keep coming back to the well so you can gain eternal life.
• You don’t need anything else but living water one time. One sip of living water and you’ll never thirst.
• Do you trust what Jesus says right here? You’ll never thirst. I believe that. NEVER THIRST!!!
• If you believe you can be saved and then lose salvation, you’re calling Jesus a liar right here.
• Jesus preached to Nicodemus. ONE TIME. Born again. He preaches to this woman. NEVER THIRST.

[23] Isaiah 65:13-14 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry: behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed: 14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

• If you want to be hungry and thirsty for eternity, then don’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• You’ll be hungry, thirsty, and ashamed. You’ll cry out in sorrow for eternity.
• You’ll howl for eternity because of the pain you’ll have. Why would you do that?
• Why don’t you just believe what Jesus says? You’ll never thirst. You can’t lose salvation.

[24] John 4:15 The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come hither to draw.

• This is a smart woman right here. She says, “Hey, I want that living water. I don’t want to thirst again.”
• She had to work for that water in that well. But to Jesus, she says, “GIVE ME THIS WATER.”
• Jesus says, “I have the living water.” She says, “Well give it to me.” Smart woman right there.

Why Don’t You Want The Living Water?

And it’s very sad to me that people around here don’t want the living water from Jesus Christ.

• They’re sick of the false religions, false churches, and false preachers so they miss the true Jesus.
• And those false religions, false churches, and false preachers will pay for that. People are going to hell.
• But not this Samaritan woman. She says, “Give me this water. I want that water.”

But notice that she still doesn’t understand what he means. She doesn’t know who he is yet.

• She just doesn’t want to work for this other water any more. “Neither come hither to draw.”
• She doesn’t want to have to come back to this well and work for this other water.
• Next, Jesus is going to give her some proof of who he is and that he has the living water.

[25] John 4:16-18 Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said unto her, Thou hast well said, I have no husband: 18 For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: in that saidst thou truly.

• Jesus shows her that he knows who she is and what she’s done.
• Hey, listen, Jesus knows everything about you. He knows everything you’ve done. All of it.
• Jesus says, “I know you don’t have a husband because you’ve had five husbands.”
• “And now you have someone else and he isn’t your husband either. So yes, you don’t have a husband.”
• This woman still doesn’t know that Jesus is the Son of God. She doesn’t know he’s the Savior yet.

[26] John 4:19-20 The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

• Notice that this woman doesn’t repent of her sin right here. Jesus doesn’t hand her tissues.
• The woman says, “You must be a prophet. You just told me things about my life you shouldn’t know.”
• She wants to argue with Jesus about something he isn’t even talking about.
• She brings up where worship should take place. “Well, let’s argue about where we should worship.”
• When you talk to people, they do the same things as this woman here.
• “Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, but you Jews say we must come to Jerusalem to worship.”
• Jesus didn’t even say anything about that at all. But watch what he says back to her.

[27] John 4:21-22 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

• There’s coming a time when you’ll worship the Father and it won’t matter where you are.
• And then he says, “You don’t even know what you worship. You’re confused. You don’t even know.”
• Well, that’s too harsh, Jesus. That wasn’t very nice. Jesus speaks the truth no matter what.
• Jesus says, “WE KNOW WHAT WE WORSHIP.” For salvation is of the Jews. Where do you get salvation?
• If you want to be saved today, who are you going to? You better go to Jesus.

[28] Zechariah 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.

[29] Hebrews 7:14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.

• Jesus Christ is the lion of the tribe of Judah. Salvation is of the Jews. Salvation comes through Jesus.
• If you want to be saved, you better find that King called Jesus Christ. He has salvation for you.

[30] Matthew 27:37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

• Jesus, the King of the Jews, continues preaching to her in verse 23 as we continue in John Chapter 4.

[31] John 4:23-24 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

• The woman wanted to argue about the place of worship. Is it the mountains or Jerusalem?
• True worshippers worship the Father in spirit and in truth. God seeks those people to worship him.
• You must worship God in spirit and in truth. Where do you find the truth? The word of God.

We Use The Bible In Church Because It Is Truth

That’s why we use the Bible for church. We use the truth in church. We worship God in spirit and truth.

• The Holy Spirit never contradicts the word of God. That would be the Holy Spirit calling himself a liar.
• The Holy Spirit doesn’t make mistakes. We worship in SPIRIT and in TRUTH.
• Jesus is preaching the TRUTH to this woman. The hour cometh and now is.
• This woman still doesn’t realize who Jesus is yet. She thought he was a prophet, but not THE prophet.

[32] John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

• This Samaritan woman is smart. She knows the Savior is coming. She knows he is called Christ.
• She says, “Hey, I don’t know who you are, but I know the Messiah will tell us all things. He’s coming.”
• I absolutely love this part of the Bible. She’s waiting for the Messiah. She says, “I know he is coming.”

[33] Genesis 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be.

• They knew the Messiah was coming from the tribe of Judah. Obviously, this woman knew.
• How did she know? She knew the Scriptures. She knew the Messiah is coming.
• They didn’t know his name would be JESUS, but they knew he was coming.

[34] Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

• She was waiting for this Messiah and her Savior to come. The Scriptures told her that he’s coming.
• And now my favorite part of this chapter is in verse 26.

[35] John 4:26 Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

• Can you imagine that if you were that woman that day?
• Obviously, she didn’t see anything special about this man. She didn’t say, “Wow, look at that man.”
• “He must be the Savior. He is so great. Look at him.”
• But Jesus says, “I that speak unto thee am he.” She is waiting for the Messiah.
• She knows the Messiah is coming. And Jesus says, “I AM THAT MAN. I AM THE MESSIAH.”
• Imagine that. Wow, that was an amazing day for that woman. And yes, I am jealous of that woman.
• But one day, I know all of us will meet Jesus face to face. I can’t wait to meet our Savior.

[36] John 4:27 And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

• As Jesus was speaking with this woman, the disciples came back from grocery shopping.
• Hey had been buying food. They were amazed Jesus was talking with this Samaritan woman.
• But none of his disciples questioned him about it. Remember, the Jews had no dealings with Samaritans.

[37] John 4:28-29 The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, 29 Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

• Do you notice Jesus uses women to spread his gospel as much as men in the Bible?
• Jesus spoke to this woman directly and said, “I am that Messiah. I am he.” That happened for a reason.
• The woman left that waterpot. In other words, she understood that water wasn’t important any more.

When Jesus Shows Up, You’ll Drop And Forget What You Were Doing

Have you ever just dropped everything you were doing?

• Have you ever just left everything for something more important? That woman went into the city.
• She says to the men in the city, “COME AND SEE A MAN. He told me all these things that I’ve done.”
• “Is this not the Christ? Is this not the man we’ve been waiting for?” Do you think they listened to her?
• She was saying, “HEY THIS MUST BE THE CHRIST!!!” She must have been convincing. Next verse.
• In other words, this woman believed on Jesus Christ. She says, “Is this not the Christ. Come and see.”

[38] John 4:30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

• So yes, they believed her. If they weren’t looking for the Messiah, would they really care?
• They cared enough to leave the city and find Jesus. They came unto him.
• I want to show you something really quick from a corrupted Bible verse. Look at the NASB.

[39] John 4:29 (False NASB) “Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ, is it?”

• In this perversion of God’s word, the woman doesn’t believe Jesus is the Christ.
• “This is not the Christ, is it?” In the King James Bible, though, she is a believer. Come and see.
• All Bible versions do not say and mean the same thing. It’s very easy to see. Yes, it is a big deal.

[40] John 4:31-32 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat. 32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

• So, while the disciples are worried about food, Jesus is preaching to this Samaritan woman.
• When we put things of the world first, we miss out on opportunities to win souls to Jesus Christ.
• The disciples say, “Jesus, you need to eat. Master, eat.” Jesus says, “I don’t need that meat.”
• “I have meat to eat that ye know not of.” They weren’t understanding everything.
• Just as I know we don’t understand everything. If we did, we would do things different.
• If we knew what heaven and hell were like, we would all be very different. But we don’t understand.
• Jesus says, “I HAVE MEAT TO EAT THAT YOU DON’T KNOW ABOUT.” Watch what they say.

[41] John 4:33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

• We immediately think of fleshly things. “Did someone else give him meat to eat? We didn’t.”
• But Jesus is talking about SPIRITUAL THINGS. He’s trying to tell you to think about spiritual things.
• Stop worrying so much about the worldly and fleshly things and more about the spiritual things.
• Stop worrying about money, food, water, jobs, homes, and everything else.
• What should you be worrying about? Let’s see what Jesus teaches us right here. Pay attention to this.

[42] John 4:34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

• Jesus says that his food is to do what God wants him to do. He must finish the work of God.
• And what is this work of God that Jesus must finish? What is this work that we need to be doing?

[43] John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

• Jesus is talking about the harvest of food in four months. He’s saying, “STOP worrying about the food.”
• He says, “Behold I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, for they are ready to harvest.”
• He’s not talking about food. He’s talking about doing the work of God. He’s talking about SOULS.
• The work of God is to win souls to Jesus Christ. That’s much more important than food and water.
• “Well, I’ll die if I don’t have food and water.” No you won’t. God will take care of you.
• Jesus is telling his disciples. It’s time to harvest what God actually wants and stop worrying about food.

[44] Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

• You can be an answer to those prayers. We need to be praying the same prayer.
• Laborers are needed. Pray that God will send forth more laborers so we can all harvest together.
• Sowing the seed is planting the seed. Preaching the word of God is sowing the seed.
• Sometimes someone else or multiple people will have to come after you.
• Someone else might reap the harvest. Someone else might win that person to Jesus Christ.
• But he that sows the seed is very important too.

[45] John 4:36-37 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together. 37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

• Someone in your family might not want to listen to you, but you sow the seed anyway.
• Others might come along after you and continue to water that seed and grow that seed into actual fruit.
• It might take many years to reap the fruit in the harvest. Someone else comes along and gathers the fruit.
• For example, Pam might sow the squash seed in the garden but Callie, Taylor, and Emma gather the fruit.

Rejoice Together In The Harvest

They bring it inside and we all rejoice together in that great garden squash.

• We all MUST work together and continue to plant seeds, water the seeds, and grow the seeds into fruit.
• A false gospel doesn’t grow fruit. A false gospel leads to death. The true Gospel leads to LIFE ETERNAL.
• Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ alone to save you, and you have everlasting life. It’s so simple.
• Reaping the fruit is the best part of it all. Sowing the seed is hard work, but that’s the first step.
• Sometimes you’ll get to gather the fruit from other people sowing the seed.

[46] Proverbs 11:30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

• Gathering fruit EQUALS winning souls to Jesus Christ. The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life.
• What do you think comes from the tree of life? LIFE is the fruit. Not death. A false gospel leads to death.
• The people who profess to be righteous themselves are leading people to death.
• A soul who has received eternal life should produce fruit. That fruit will be more souls with eternal life.
• We should be multiplying. We should be bringing forth fruit after our own kind.
• If you don’t bring forth any fruit, this doesn’t mean you aren’t saved. The Bible never says that anywhere.

[47] John 4:38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

• Do you see what Jesus says? He says, “I sent you to reap the fruit that someone else worked for.”
• He says, “You are entered into their labor.” Why would he say that?
• Because they’re going to the Jew first. They’re going to the people who have the Scriptures.
• Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Samuel, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Habakkuk, Malachi.
• They all sowed the seed in those families of the children of Israel.
• And now Jesus is sending the disciples to reap of their labor.

If you have children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, you need to be sowing that seed into those children.

• They might be with a dad and mom who don’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
• Those children might choose to believe what their dad and mom believe and not believe the Bible.
• But if you sow that seed, maybe those children grow up one day and a man or a woman like one of us knocks on their door one day and reaps the fruit.
• Or maybe you see that person in need one day and you stop and talk with them.
• You share the true Gospel of Jesus Christ with that person and you finish the plan that the great grandmother had a long time ago.
• In heaven, you will rejoice together with the sowers, the reapers, and the fruit of the labor.

[48] John 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

• Do you see what that Samaritan woman did right there? She went and reaped the harvest.
• As soon as she believed, she went and gathered some fruit that was ready to harvest.
• She didn’t wait. She said, “Hey, I’m going and telling everyone I found the Savior.”
• Because of that woman, many of the Samaritans of that city BELIEVED ON HIM.
• Why? Because of that testimony of that woman. Jesus is the tree of life.
• He preached to that woman and she goes out and gathers the fruit. Now, listen to this warning.

[49] Matthew 12:30 He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.

• If you aren’t gathering fruit, you’re scattering it abroad.
• All of these churches with a false gospel are scattering people who could have been saved.
• That’s a strong warning right there. If you aren’t with Jesus, you’re against him.
• If you aren’t gathering the fruit, you’re scattering. And you don’t want to do that.

[50] John 4:40-42 So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his own word; 42 And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

• The Samaritans came to Jesus. They besought him. They wanted Jesus to stay with them.
• When you finally find what you’re looking for, you aren’t going to let it go. They sought Jesus.
• Jesus preached to them. “And many more believed because of HIS OWN WORD.” More were saved.
• The other Samaritans tell the woman that they now believe not because of her word but because of Jesus.
• They say, “WE KNOW THAT THIS IS INDEED THE CHRIST, THE SAVIOR OF THE WORLD.”
• That’s a testimony of all of those people for you too. They’re telling you. Hey, this is the Savior.
• Jesus is “THE” Savior. If you believe the Bible, you’ll believe those words right there.
• Jesus stayed there with them for two days.

Jesus Left Samaria After 2 Days

[51] John 4:43 Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

• Keep in mind where we started John Chapter 4. Jesus was leaving Jerusalem and going to Galilee.
• But he had to go through Samaria first. He leaves Samaria after two days and went into Galilee.

[52] John 4:44 For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

• Jesus was born in Bethlehem, which is in Judea. But Nazareth is in Galilee.
• But he doesn’t go to his hometown of Nazareth. He skips over it and goes to another city of Galilee.

[53] Matthew 13:54-55 And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

[54] Matthew 13:56-57 And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things? 57 And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.

• Many times, your own family won’t listen to you. “Well, I know what he’s done. I’m not listening to him.”
• They act as if they’re better than you because they know you’re a sinner. But not them. No way.
• That’s why you need to plant the seed and hope someone else reaps the fruit.
• Jesus doesn’t go to his hometown of Nazareth. He skips over it at this time and goes to Cana of Galilee.
• In John Chapter 4, Jesus doesn’t go to Nazareth.

[55] John 4:45-46 Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilaeans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast. 46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

• He goes to Cana of Galilee and they receive him there.
• Why did they receive Jesus Christ there? Because they had seen what he had done in Jerusalem.
• They would all go to Jerusalem for the feast. They would keep the Passover feast with Jesus.
• He goes into Cana of Galilee. This is where he turned the water into wine from John Chapter 2.
• Now we’re going to hear about a nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.
• Cana and Capernaum are about 16 miles away from each other.

[56] John 4:47 When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judaea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

• This nobleman had already heard about Jesus Christ. The word was spreading fast.
• He went and found Jesus and wanted him to come over to Capernaum and heal his sick son.
• His son was about to die so he’s desperate. If this man can save his son, he’s going to find Jesus.

[57] John 4:48-49 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe. 49 The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

• Jesus knows he doesn’t believe. He needs to see signs and wonders like we all want to see.
• “Well, God, if you’re really there, why don’t you show me? Do something so I’ll know.”
• Hey, does he not do enough. This earth you live on didn’t just happen.
• The water you drink didn’t just happen. The air you breathe didn’t just happen.
• The life you have right now didn’t just happen. God gave you everything. Is that sign not enough?
• But this nobleman is desperate. “Please Sir, come down here or my child will die.”
• And watch what happens next. This is awesome and amazing.

“Thy Son Liveth!”

[58] John 4:50 Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

• Jesus didn’t have to see what his name was. He didn’t go, “Well what’s your son’s name?”
• “How old is your son? Where is he at right now?” Jesus didn’t need to travel 16 miles.
• But this man did need to come and ask Jesus to heal his son. If you want to be saved, you better ask Jesus.
• That man found Jesus and asked him. If you want your prayers answered, you better ask Jesus.
• Jesus says, “Go thy way. Thy son liveth.” That’s it. Ask Jesus to save you. And he’ll say, “You’re saved.”
• He doesn’t need to say a lot of words. “Go your way. It’s done.” And that man believed what Jesus said.
• And he went his way. All you need to do is simply believe what Jesus says.
• Stop listening to false preachers who are only HUMAN and listen to what God says.

[59] John 4:51-52 And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth. 52 Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

• The nobleman leaves Jesus in Cana and goes back to Capernaum. His servant met him along that route.
• They didn’t wait until he got back home. They were so joyful that they were coming to tell him.
• They said, “THY SON LIVETH.” He then asked them when he started to get better.
• “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

[60] John 4:53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

• And guess what? His son was healed at the same time in which Jesus spoke the words, “THY SON LIVETH.”
• And he believed at that time. Jesus did the sign and the miracle so this man would believe on him.
• Who else was saved that day? HIS WHOLE HOUSE believed. That day, the son’s life on earth was saved.
• But was that the most important thing? No, it wasn’t.
• That day HIS WHOLE HOUSE believed and were given eternal life. They were saved that day.
• The son is sick and about to die, but Jesus turned that situation into everlasting life. He is the tree of life.

[61] John 4:54 This is again the second miracle that Jesus did, when he was come out of Judaea into Galilee.

• The first miracle in Cana of Galilee was Jesus turning water into wine.
• Jesus did many other miracles, but this was the second in Cana of Galilee.
• The second miracle was Jesus healing the man’s son from about 16 miles away.
• He doesn’t need to be near to you physically to save you. God is everywhere.
• This is just the second miracle written in the Book of John.

[62] John 20:30-31 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

• You should pay very close attention to these miracles.
• There were MANY other signs that Jesus did in the presence of his disciples that are not written.
• Why are all of these written in the Book of John?
• They are written so you might BELIEVE that Jesus is the Christ.
• The entire Book of John is written so you will believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
• And if he is the Son of God, he MUST have the power to save you.

If you believe that he is the one who can save you from death and hell, you will receive everlasting life.

• And that life doesn’t come through your name or my name or any other name.
• Everlasting life ONLY comes through the name of Jesus Christ.
• I hope you see this today.
• The Gospel of John is written so you can see the words, believe, and receive the gift of eternal life.
