[2] The title of the sermon today is “GENESIS CHAPTER 11.”

A Quick Recap Of The Prior Chapter In Genesis

• Before we start in Genesis Chapter 11, let’s do a quick recap of Genesis Chapter 10.
• In Genesis Chapter 10, we obtained more details about the families of Noah’s three sons.
• The 3 sons of Noah who were on the ark with him during the flood were Japheth, Shem, and Ham.
• Japheth is the oldest, then Shem, then Ham.

Genesis Chapter 10 simply tells us more about these 3 families that result from Noah’s 3 sons.

• We see the sons of Japheth listed out. We know the Gentiles come from Japheth.
• Nations are formed and named after the sons of Noah and their families.
• We see some of the sons of Ham are the Canaanites. We see Nimrod is in Ham’s family line.
• The beginning of Nimrod’s kingdom is Babel so we know that Nimrod was a king.
• Nimrod is actually a picture of the antichrist with his one world kingdom.

We saw that the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgasites, Hivites, Arkites, and many others come from Canaan.

• Canaan is a son of Ham. We realize that the Israelites many years forward will fight these same people.
• Ham and his descendants, in general, were evil and wicked people.
• This is why God has no problem with the Israelites destroying them.

We see the family line of Shem. We know that Abraham comes from the line of Shem.

• We know that King David comes from the line of Shem. We know that Jesus Christ comes from this line.
• We know that the family line of Shem, in general, is not so evil and wicked compared to Ham’s family line.
• Same thing with Japheth. His family line is not so evil and wicked.
• But we also know that God is not a respecter of persons so anyone can be saved.
• Yes, there were saved people from the family line of Ham. ALL NATIONS were formed from these 3 sons.
• And we know that all nations have people who are saved.

[3] Genesis 10:5 By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

[4] Genesis 10:20 These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their countries, and in their nations.

[5] Genesis 10:31-32 These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations. 32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

• So, we know that after the flood, the 3 sons of Noah formed all the nations on earth.
• The nations were divided by the families we see within Genesis Chapter 10.
• And Genesis Chapter 10 tells us that they are divided AFTER THEIR TONGUES or their languages.
• When we get to Genesis Chapter 11, we go back to before they were divided by their tongues.
• We’re going to see the division of these nations by their tongues in Genesis Chapter 11.
• With that quick summary of Genesis Chapter 10, let’s start there in verse 1 of Genesis Chapter 11.

[6] Genesis 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

• After the flood, before God divides the sons of Noah into nations by their tongues, we see right here that the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.
• They weren’t yet divided into nations by their languages or their tongues.

So, in today’s world, people believe that it’s better for everyone to be together and united.

• That’s why we have the UNITED NATIONS. We have the UNITED STATES.
• The world leaders are constantly trying to bring everyone together.
• The “WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION.” United we stand and divided we fall. Is that true?
• Does God want everyone on earth united and standing together?
• Well, as we go through Genesis Chapter 11, you can tell me.

Keep in mind that at this point in Genesis Chapter 11 the whole earth was of one language and of one speech.

• Let’s see if God looks down from heaven upon this and sees that it is good.
• Does God like what He sees when the inhabitants of His earth are all united together as one?
• Take a look at the big cities in this country. More and more people come together in these cities.
• They are closer. They are more united together. Are the big cities righteous?
• Is New York the mecca for worshipping God? NO, it’s an evil and a wicked city. It’s a GODLESS city.
• Think about that. Look and see what happens when more people come together.

Think of all the examples within this world right now when more and more people come together.

• Think of Southeast Christian Church with their false gospel based on works.
• Do you think that church is getting more righteous or more evil? You’ll find out in the future.
• I can guarantee you that there are evil and wicked things going on within that church.

[7] 2 Timothy 3:4-7 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; 5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, 7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

• All people who preach a different gospel than God’s gospel are traitors.
• These type of people creep into places. It only takes one person for the evil to spread.

[8] 2 Timothy 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

• Do you think our world is getting better or worse? Evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse.

[9] Jude 4 For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

• You can take a look at all the examples in our county, state, and country today.
• Look at Christian Academy in Louisville. Supposedly, one of the best private schools around.
• Their tuition rates show you how great they think they are.
• There’s tons and tons of evil going on within that school. Watch the fruit of that school.
• One of their students was recently breaking into homes in the area at night while people were sleeping.
• A man caught the boy in his home and had a gun pointed at him. He turned him over to the police.
• Watch all of their works and what they do. You had a female teacher in a relationship with a student.
• SICKENING. Evil things happen the more people come together. Evil men and women creep in unawares.
• This is why God commands us to watch out for these people.

Does More Evil Or Good Result With Large Concentrations Of People?

Look at the public schools as another example. Does more evil or good happen within a public school?

• God’s design is for parents to teach their children. Go against His design, and you will have evil.
• No matter what you think, you will have evil.
• When more and more children come together, you have problems.
• I’ve been in the public schools. I know what happens. EVIL HAPPENS.
• Making fun of children doesn’t help them, but that’s what the schools are filled with.
• Put the children together on a school bus and just listen to what you hear. It’s sickening.
• So, do you think we’re better off when more people come together?
• Let’s see what God thinks as we continue.

[10] Genesis 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

• After the flood, they were all together. They stayed together.
• They find a plain in the land of Shinar. This is in the area of Babylon. They find a plain there and live there.
• We see Shinar 7 times within the Bible. Here’s one example.

[11] Daniel 1:1-2 In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah came Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon unto Jerusalem, and besieged it. 2 And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with part of the vessels of the house of God: which he carried into the land of Shinar to the house of his god; and he brought the vessels into the treasure house of his god.

• You see that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon takes part of the vessel of the house of God.
• What does he do with them? He takes them back to the house of his god in the land of Shinar.
• BABYLON is always related to false gods. The land of Shinar is where the people dwell after the flood.
• The land of Shinar is not known as a GODLY place. It’s an evil and a wicked place.
• Let’s see what happens as we continue in Genesis Chapter 11.

[12] Genesis 11:3-4 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

• They say, “We’re going to build us a place here and we are going to be together.”
• “We are not going to be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.”
• They say, “Let us build a city and a tower here that reaches unto heaven. We will make us a name.”
• You might have a will that you’re going to do something, but if God’s will is otherwise, you lose.
• Your will not overcome the will of God Almighty. They say, “We will not be scattered.”
• Well, let’s see what happens.

[13] Genesis 11:5-6 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

• The Lord comes down from heaven to see this city and this tower that the children of men builded.
• The Lord takes a close look at everything that’s happening just as He always does.
• He says, “BEHOLD, THE PEOPLE IS ONE, AND THEY HAVE ALL ONE LANGUAGE.”
• “And this they begin to do. And now, nothing will be restrained from them.”
• He’s saying, “Anything they can imagine that will do.”

You can see that in our world today as people come together from all over the world.

• Language barriers are beginning to be knocked down. There will be a one world language in the future.
• For example, they’ve already started human-animal embryo experiments.
• Scientists and doctors from all over the world collaborate on all of these things.
• They work together on all of these evil and wicked things. But they act as if they’re doing good.
• All of these people in Babel are acting as if they’re doing good but they aren’t.
• The imaginations of man are wicked.

[14] Genesis 6:5 And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

[15] Genesis 8:21 And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.

[16] Ecclesiastes 7:27-29 Behold, this have I found, saith the preacher, counting one by one, to find out the account: 28 Which yet my soul seeketh, but I find not: one man among a thousand have I found; but a woman among all those have I not found. 29 Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

• The imagination of man seeks out many wicked and evil inventions. This is the truth.
• You can see this throughout our entire world today.

[17] Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

• We know for sure that the Bible is the truth, right? God says, “The heart is deceitful above all things.”
• “The heart is desperately wicked.” Do you trust what God says? The people in Babel were not good.
• Their imaginations were not good. Do you think they could actually build a tower to heaven?
• Of course they can’t because we know what’s right outside the earth? SPACE.
• Have we gone into space? Yes we have. Look at all the money we spend trying to go further into space.

It doesn’t make any sense. Why does man continue to want to do all of these things?

• “We were the first on the moon!!! Look how great we are. We’ll be the first on Mars.”
• Let me ask you a question: “What benefit did anyone get from someone going to the moon?”
• Think about that. Okay, so you stepped onto the moon. What did that do for you? Nothing.
• But do you know how much money was spent on that?
• People lose their life trying to go into space. Why? What are you looking for up there?
• Do you think you’re going to find heaven up there? What’s the point?

[18] Ecclesiastes 9:3 This is an evil among all things that are done under the sun, that there is one event unto all: yea, also the heart of the sons of men is full of evil, and madness is in their heart while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

[19] Ezekiel 8:9 And he said unto me, Go in, and behold the wicked abominations that they do here.

• You can take a close look at our country, and it fits perfectly into that Scripture right there.
• When we all come together from all over the world, things get worse.
• So, do you really think those people in Babel were doing good things? Of course they weren’t.
• Building the tower of babel is a picture of a works based salvation.

You Won’t Find Heaven By Building A Tower

You can try to build yourself a tower to heaven all you want, and you won’t find heaven that way.

• NEVER. God says that you can’t work your way to heaven. Works will not get you to heaven.
• But the men of Babel were trying to build themselves a tower and to make a name for themselves.
• I don’t need to make a name for myself. I’m not here for myself. I don’t even care if you know my name.
• It doesn’t hurt my feelings at all if you don’t know my name, but it does hurt me if you don’t know the name of Jesus.

[20] Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. 11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. 12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

• Neither is there salvation in any other BUT Jesus Christ. His name is the one that matters.
• As a true CHRISTIAN church, we aren’t trying to make a name for ourselves.
• We’re trying to spread the name of Jesus Christ throughout this world. He’s the one who can save people.

[21] Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

• I’m not going to stand up here and try to make a name for ourselves.
• I’m not going to be like those people in Babel.
• I don’t want God to come down here and take a close look and see that I’m trying to promote my name.
• We have to be very careful and cautious of doing things like that.

[22] 1 Corinthians 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

[23] 1 Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

You have all these people who want to make a NAME for themselves at Babel.

• But you have that all around here in this country too. Everyone wants to make a name for themselves.
• They want to give donations before they die so they can get their NAME on something.
• They want to be remembered by THEIR NAME. Very evil and wicked people want those things.

[24] 2 Samuel 18:17-18 And they took Absalom, and cast him into a great pit in the wood, and laid a very great heap of stones upon him: and all Israel fled every one to his tent. 18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and reared up for himself a pillar, which is in the king’s dale: for he said, I have no son to keep my name in remembrance: and he called the pillar after his own name: and it is called unto this day, Absalom’s place.

• Absalom wanted something named after him so his NAME would live on.

[25] 1 Samuel 15:12 And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

• Saul wanted his own place. HE SET HIM UP A PLACE.
• Martin Luther King Jr was a heretic Baptist preacher. But his name is everywhere now.
• Most cities have streets named after him. Is this going to last, though?
• All of this will be destroyed one day. Their name will vanish and no one will remember them.

[26] Psalm 49:10-12 For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others. 11 Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names. 12 Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.

• You have all these people who are very arrogant. Donald Trump is very arrogant.
• He thinks that he did everything. He doesn’t give credit to anyone else and especially not Jesus Christ.
• Most politicians are this way because they must make a NAME for themselves. They must be popular.
• Do you remember the story of King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel Chapter 4?

[27] Daniel 4:28-30 All this came upon the king Nebuchadnezzar. 29 At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. 30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?

• The king says, “Is not this great BABYLON, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by MY MIGHT and MY POWER?”
• “I built this place for the HONOR of MY MAJESTY.” When you act like that, God will bring you down.

[28] Daniel 4:31-32 While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. 32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will.

• You don’t want to live this life to make a NAME for yourself. NOT GOOD.
• The world will teach you the opposite of the Bible. Don’t try to make a name for yourself.
• Magnify God and His name versus what this world does, and you’ll be a delight to God’s eyes.

As we continue in Genesis Chapter 11 think about this: Japheth, Shem, and Ham were on the ark during the flood.

• They saw everything with their own eyes. They saw how God saved them from that flood.
• I’m sure that at least some of the family kept all these things in mind. Wouldn’t you?
• But now they’re out there building this tower, trying to make it to heaven on their own, and attempting to make a NAME for themselves.
• After being saved by God from that flood that destroyed everyone.

Think about who was there with these people in Babel. All of them were as one. Who was there with them?

• Remember, it only takes one evil person to creep in and spread all the evil.
• HAM WAS THERE WITH THEM. Canaan, the cursed son of Ham, was there with them.
• You had these evil and wicked people there in Babel. They’re building this one world kingdom.
• NIMROD is the king of this evil kingdom who doesn’t want to magnify God’s name.
• We know Ham was very evil because of what he did to his very own father. He was a SICKO.
• And God comes down to closely see what these people have become.
• He sees their wicked imaginations and what they’re planning to do. And it’s not good.

[29] Genesis 11:7-8 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

• Notice what God says exactly: “Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language.”
• God is plural. LET US GO DOWN. There’s more than one person in God. There are 3 persons in ONE GOD.

[30] Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

• Let US make man in OUR own image, after OUR likeness. Angels aren’t made in the image of God.
• They are beasts and living creatures with multiple faces and wings.
• MAN IS MADE IN THE IMAGE OF GOD. Let US make man in OUR own image. God is plural.

[31] Genesis 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

• The huge majority of underlying Hebrew words for God are plural words. NOT SINGULAR. Plural.
• And yes, it’s perfectly fine to say there are 3 PERSONS in ONE GOD.

[32] Hebrews 1:2-3 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

• “The express image of HIS PERSON.” Jesus Christ is a person. God the Father is a person.
• The Holy Spirit is a person. Each of them have their very own will. But they are all obedient to the Father.
• They are all equal but God the Father is the leader.
• Just as my wife and I are equal but I am the leader of my home.
• In Genesis Chapter 11, we see God say: “LET US GO DOWN and there confound their language.”
• God doesn’t want them understanding each other anymore.
• He doesn’t want them working together as one any more. Why? Because they’re doing evil.

Evil Spreads Very Quickly

Evil spreads quickly. People love to do evil. But it’s very difficult to get them to do good.

• You can easily see this throughout the world. Doing good is following God’s words.
• Go find me someone who is doing their best to follow God’s word outside of this church.
• It’s going to take you some time. But you can walk right out and find evil very quickly.
• So God scattered all the people abroad as only He can do. They spread all over the earth.
• They left off to build the city or stopped building the city. They couldn’t understand each other anymore.

[33] Genesis 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

• So, I love to do reality checks with what is actually happening in the world versus the Bible.
• Can you clearly see evidence in this world today that matches Genesis Chapter 11?
• Of course you can. People are still scattered all over the earth by their tongues or their languages.
• Different nations have different languages. If we all had the same language, things would be worse.

Every part of the Bible is confirmed with reality.

• For example, you can know that the worldwide flood happened when you find shark teeth in Mammoth Cave.
• How did they get there? THE FLOOD. Entire shark skeletons have been found inside the cave.
• How would they have lived there? THE FLOOD HAPPENED.
• They find fossils of sea creatures high up in the mountains. The flood happened.
• There is no other explanation. The earth is not hundreds of millions years old.
• The Bible tells you the truth. The earth is just over 6,000 years old. The Bible tells you the truth.
• Real science will always match with the Bible. ALWAYS.

Reality proves the Bible over and over again.

• The dating system used by so-called “scientists” is based on guesses. That’s not science.
• SCIENCE IS TRUTH AND THE BIBLE IS SCIENCE AND IS TRUTH.
• Today, people are still scattered abroad over the face of the earth and gathered together in nations in which the same languages are spoken.
• This matches the Bible perfectly.

We just saw the kingdom of Babel and the tower of Babel. We’re in Genesis Chapter 11.

• We’re very early in the Bible. We see Babel.
• Then we see the kingdom of Babylon throughout the Old Testament.
• At the end of the Bible, we see the last Babylon. Babylon is all about false gods every time.
• We see God come down and end Babel in Genesis. We see God destroy the kingdom of Babylon.
• We see God do the same to the last Babylon in Revelation.
• They are all very similar. Babel is a picture of the last Babylon. GOD WILL END ALL BABYLONS.
• And He did this to BABEL in Genesis Chapter 11. Let’s move to verse 10 in Genesis Chapter 11.

[34] Genesis 11:10-11 These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: 11 And Shem lived after he begat Arphaxad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

• Now, as you can see, we’re moving to a new section. We just finished the tower of Babel story.
• Now we’re going to learn about the generations of Shem.
• But we just learned about the children of Shem in the previous chapter.
• So, what’s different about this in Genesis Chapter 11?

God is giving us exact ages of the people and when they were born.

• But what’s this leading up to? Towards the end of this chapter, you’ll see Abram or Abraham.
• In the next chapter, Genesis Chapter 12, we start to see the life of Abraham.
• So we’re at the point where God is giving us the family line of Abraham.
• We see the Abraham comes from the generations of Shem.
• And again, Shem is Noah’s middle son. Abraham came from the middle son of Noah.

We see that Shem was 100 years old when he begat Arphaxad his son.

• Arphaxad was born 2 years after the flood. So, the flood ended when Shem was about 98 years old.
• This means Shem was a pretty old man when the flood started. Do you see this?
• It’s not like he was a child when he entered into the ark with Noah.
• Same thing with Ham. Ham was the youngest but he wasn’t a child.
• When Ham SAW Noah’s nakedness, he know what he was doing. He was a grown man.

Sometimes our imaginations can get the best of us.

• You may have thought Noah’s 3 sons were younger when they entered into the ark, but they weren’t.
• They were all married too. So they were grown men with wives. Think about Ham’s wife.
• Think about what Ham did to Noah. You wouldn’t want to be that weirdo’s wife.
• So, we see Shem has Arphaxad 2 years after the flood at 100 years of age.
• Shem lives 500 more years for a total of 600 years old at death. He had other sons and daughters.
• But we’re focusing on the line to Abram within this chapter.

[35] Genesis 11:12-13 And Arphaxad lived five and thirty years, and begat Salah: 13 And Arphaxad lived after he begat Salah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

• Now we see Arphaxad was 35 years old when he had Salah. Arphaxad lives to be 438 years old.
• He has sons and daughters. People multiply very quickly when they have multiple sons and daughters.
• These would be some of the people who were around up to the tower of Babel happening.
• If you pay close attention to this, you can have an approximate date of when the tower of Babel occurred.
• God is giving us all of this information purposely so we can figure things out through His words.

[36] Genesis 11:14-15 And Salah lived thirty years, and begat Eber: 15 And Salah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.

• We see the same trend continuing here in these Scriptures.
• Salah lived 30 years and begat Eber. Salah lived a total of 433 years. He had sons and daughters.

[37] Genesis 11:16-17 And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: 17 And Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.

• So far we’ve seen Shem, Arphaxad, Salah, Eber, and Peleg.
• Peleg was born when Eber was 34 years old. Eber lived a total of 464 years. He had sons and daughters.
• And notice that the women aren’t mentioned by name. But should they care about that?
• We just talked about the people of Babel wanting to make a name for themselves.
• The women didn’t make names for themselves. And they should be fine with that.
• Again, we don’t need to make names for ourselves. We are in JESUS CHRIST who has a GREAT NAME.
• When we’re in Him, we could care less about ourselves and our names.

Peleg Is Born After Eber Lived 34 Years

Now, I want you to notice that Peleg is born here after Eber lived 34 years.

• So, let’s see how many years after the flood that Peleg was born.
• Arphaxad was born 2 years after the flood 35 more years and Salah was born. 37 years total.
• Salah was 30 years old when he has Eber. Now we’re at 67 years after the flood.
• Eber was 34 years old and begat Peleg. Now we’re at 101 years after the flood and Peleg is born.
• Do you see this? Let me repeat this: “101 years after the flood and Peleg is born.”
• If you remember Genesis Chapter 10, you’ll remember this Scripture:

[38] Genesis 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

• The earth was divided at the tower of Babel.

[39] Genesis 10:32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

• The earth was divided at the tower of Babel. The nations were divided by their tongues or languages.
• We know that the tower of Babel occurred during the life of Peleg.
• Let’s continue in Genesis Chapter 11.

[40] Genesis 11:18-19 And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: 19 And Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.

• Peleg begat Reu at 30 years old and then lived to be 209 years old.
• So, Peleg was born 101 after the flood and lives to be 209 years old.
• We then know that the tower of Babel happened anywhere from 101 years to 310 years after the flood.
• We also know when the flood happened because God gives us the years from Adam to Noah.
• We know when the tower of Babel happened, approximately, because of these genealogies.
• Chapters in the Bible like this are very important but people love to skip over these chapters.
• We will not skip over any chapters or Scriptures here at this church. Every word of God is pure.
• Every word of God is true, and I want to learn the truth from God.

You’ll get these so-called “scholars” who will tell you that there’s no way the Bible is correct.

• They’ll come up with some lies that they imagined in their corrupted minds.
• We learned that the imaginations of men are evil. But we know every word of God is true.
• So stop fighting against God’s words and accept them as written.
• And then you’ll know how old the earth is right now. You won’t have to guess any more.
• You’ll know about when the Tower of Babel happened. And it’s not a fairy tale. It’s true.

[41] Genesis 11:20-21 And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: 21 And Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.

• Again, all of this is leading up to Abram or Abraham. We’ll know the time frame of when he lived on earth.
• Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Salah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug. Let’s keep going.

[42] Genesis 11:22-23 And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: 23 And Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.

• Some of these other names aren’t mentioned in the Bible much at all.
• Nahor is a name we see several times, though. You should remember and recognize Nahor’s name.
• But there’s actually 2 Nahor’s as we’ll see here in this chapter. So please notice this.
• In Genesis Chapter 24, we see the name of Nahor.

[43] Genesis 24:10-11 And the servant took ten camels of the camels of his master, and departed; for all the goods of his master were in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor. 11 And he made his camels to kneel down without the city by a well of water at the time of the evening, even the time that women go out to draw water.

• This is where Abraham sends his servant to find Isaac a wife. And he finds Rebekah.
• Where? In the city of Nahor. This city of Nahor is in Mesopotamia.
• So far we have Noah, Shem, Arphaxad, Salah, Eber, Peleg, Reu, Serug, and Nahor.

[44] Genesis 11:24-25 And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: 25 And Nahor lived after he begat Terah an hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.

• We continue to get the timing for all of these people in the line of Abraham.
• And you should know that Terah is Abraham’s father and Nahor is Abraham’s grandfather.
• And notice that all of these men had sons and daughters and they multiplied greatly.

[45] Genesis 11:26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

• So we see that Terah has 3 sons who are named Abram, Nahor, and Haran.
• Terah’s father is Nahor and he names one of his sons after his father NAHOR.
• But this is where we see Abram or Abraham come into play in the Bible. This is the first mention of Abram.
• Now, the Bible is going to give us more information on the generations of Terah.

[46] Genesis 11:27 Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.

• Terah has Abram, Nahor, and Haran. And then Haran has Lot.
• So Abram and Lot are not brothers. Abram is Lot’s uncle. Lot is Abram’s brother’s son.
• Lot is Abram’s nephew.

[47] Genesis 11:28 And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.

• We see that Lot’s father is Haran. And Haran dies early in the land of his nativity or birth land.
• Now we know that Haran was born in Ur of the Chaldees.
• And remember Babylon is known as the Chaldees.
• All of this makes perfect sense and goes together perfectly.
• Abram was born in this same area and lived in this area.

[48] Genesis 15:6-7 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. 7 And he said unto him, I am the LORD that brought thee out of Ur of the Chaldees, to give thee this land to inherit it.

• Here’s a map that might be somewhat correct.

• You can see Ur there just Southeast of Babylon. You see Mesopotamia there.
• And then you see Egypt over to the far left. You see Canaan on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
• We know that Terah, Haran, Lot, and Abram lived in Ur of the Chaldees in Mesopotamia.
• We know the tower of Babel probably happened close to that location of Babylon on the map.
• Let’s keep going in Genesis Chapter 11 verse 29.

[50] Genesis 11:29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.

• So remember that Terah had Abram, Nahor, and Haran but Haran dies. Haran had children before dying.
• Lot was one of those children. Abram and Nahor are left as children of Terah.
• Abram and Nahor take wives. Abram takes Sarai. Nahor takes Milcah.
• Milcah is the daughter of Haran or the niece of Nahor. Haran had Milcah and Iscah.
• This means Milcah and Iscah would be the nieces of Arbaham IF Iscah is a woman.
• The Bible doesn’t say right there if Iscah is a woman either.

Is Sarai Really Iscah? Are They The Same Person?

Some people will say that Iscah is Sarai, but the Bible doesn’t say this right here. Does it?

• Is Iscah named Sarai? Are they the same person? Some so-called “scholars” will say they are.
• Iscah isn’t mentioned anywhere else in the Bible. We see this in Genesis Chapter 20, though.

[51] Genesis 20:10-12 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife’s sake. 12 And yet indeed she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.

• Abraham tells us that Sarai is his sister. “She is the daughter of my father but not my mother.”
• Terah is Abraham’s father. Terah has a daughter with another woman who is not Abraham’s mother.
• Sarai is not the daughter of Haran. Therefore she is not Iscah. I hope you see this.
• That should be the end of that discussion. Abraham says that Sarai is his sister. Not his niece.
• The Bible doesn’t even say for sure that Iscah is a woman. But Bible scholars will tell you that.
• They can’t even understand simple Scriptures and see the truth.

[52] Genesis 11:30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

• We know that Abraham and Sarah didn’t have any children of their own until a very old age.
• God can shut up the womb any time He wants. He can open the womb any time He wants.
• He shows us this over and over again throughout the Bible.

[53] Genesis 11:31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

• Terah takes his family and they leave Ur of the Chaldees. Where do they go?
• They are heading for the land of Canaan. But they don’t make it there. They go to Haran and live there.

[54] Genesis 11:32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

• We know that Terah didn’t make it to Canaan. Terah lives 205 years and dies in Haran.
• That’s the last verse in Genesis Chapter 11. Let’s go back to the age at when Terah had Abram.
• Genesis 11:26 says Terah lived 70 years and begat Abram. BUT, I’ve made this mistake before.
• We need to look a little closer at Genesis 11:26 and not assume that Abram is the first born.

[55] Genesis 11:26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.

• We shouldn’t just assume that Abram is the firstborn and was born when Terah was 70 years old.
• Because Acts Chapter 7 tells us something different. Abram is not the firstborn.
• We also know that Shem is not the firstborn of Noah, but we see this in the Bible:

[56] Genesis 5:32 And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

• We see this same order and we know for sure that Shem wasn’t the firstborn because of other Scriptures.
• We also know that Abram is not the firstborn of Terah because of other Scriptures.
• If Abram was the firstborn, the Scriptures would contradict themselves and not make any sense.
• So, I didn’t notice this until I went to study Genesis Chapter 12 in detail.
• I went to Acts Chapter 7 and I found that I was wrong. God is always right, and I am wrong.
• Terah lives to be 205 years old and dies in Haran. And watch what we learn in Genesis Chapter 12.

[57] Genesis 12:1-2 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: 2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

[58] Genesis 12:3-4 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. 4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

• Abram is 75 years old when he leaves Haran. Right? Do you see that right there?
• That’s the truth. Abram was 75 years old when he leaves Haran.
• Terah was 70 years old when he had his firstborn but that was not Abram.
• We learn in Acts Chapter 7 that Abram doesn’t leave Haran until his father is dead.
• If Abram was the firstborn, that means Abram would have left Terah in Haran for 60 years before he died.

[59] Acts 7:2-3 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, 3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

[60] Acts 7:4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

• From these Scriptures in the light of the New Testament, we know that Abram wasn’t the first born.
• He couldn’t be because the numbers wouldn’t add up that we are given in the Book of Genesis.
• Again, this is why all of the Bible is very important to understand.
• Terah never made it to Canaan, but Abram did.

[61] Genesis 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

• Abram did as the Lord commanded, but not initially. He didn’t leave his father as commanded by God.
• He took him to Haran and then he waited for him to die and didn’t leave until he was dead.
• So, after his father died, Abram then did what God commanded him to do.
• Make sure you see all of these things within the Bible and don’t skip over Scriptures.
• If something doesn’t make sense, you must STOP, compare Scripture with Scripture, and figure it out.
• The Bible is perfect, but it takes work to get it right.

We will be learning a lot from Abram as we continue in the Book of Genesis.

• Genesis is an amazing book filled with prophecy that we need to know.
• People miss so many things in the Book of Genesis.
• I hope you’ve learned something from this study in Genesis Chapter 11.
