Let Every Soul Be Subject Unto The Higher Powers

Many people in this world today like to preach that we should do whatever the powers above us tell us to do.

If the government commands us to kill babies, we should do it.

If the government commands us to stay home from church, we should do it.

If the government commands us to give up our guns, we should do it.

If the government commands us to do anything, we should do it.

This Scripture from Romans Chapter 13 is used:

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

They do not continue to read Romans Chapter 13. They do not continue to read the entire Bible from cover to cover.

We cannot take a portion of a verse and twist it to say what we want. We need to take it in the context of the entire Bible.

Please read through our verse by verse study of Romans Chapter 13.

Yes, you should be subject to the higher powers in everything you do. Yes, we have all have powers above us.

When I work, I have a boss. That boss has a boss. That boss has a boss. I do what they tell me to do because I believe what God says.

BUT, let’s say they ask me to do something that is against God’s law. Let’s say they ask me to lie, cheat, or steal. I will not do it. When this happens, there is a conflict in the higher powers.

THE HIGHEST POWER OF ALL commands me not to lie, cheat, or steal. A good boss will not ask me to lie, cheat, or steal. If he or she does, then I don’t want them as a boss anyway. They can fire me, and I’ll find a different job with a boss that doesn’t ask me to lie, cheat, or steal. God will support me in this.

When there is a conflict in your life between higher powers, GOD ALWAYS WINS. You get to make the choice. Will you follow God or man?

Here’s another example:

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

The Bible commands children to obey their parents in all things. And then notice that is says, “for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.”

If a parent asks their child to commit murder, the child should not commit murder. This is not what the Bible is teaching as murder does not please the Lord.

In other words, a good parent will not ask their children to commit sin. A good parent will not ask their children to lie, cheat, or steal.

If they do, the child should reject that command. If I ask my children to steal, I expect that they will not steal because they know it is wrong according to the Bible.

This is why we must be teaching our children the Bible from a young age.

God is always the highest power. God does not choose every ruler in this world. An example is the antichrist in the Book of Revelation. He will be a world ruler over a kingdom that rules the entire world.

Revelation 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

The beast in the Book of Revelation is the antichrist. The dragon gives him his power, his seat, and his great authority. It does not say that the antichrist is ordained of God.

Who is the dragon that gives the antichrist his power, seat, and authority?

Revelation 12:9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Satan himself ordained or chose the antichrist. Not God. God does not choose the evil and wicked rulers on this earth.

In the end of the world, the antichrist will command that everyone take the mark of the beast. He will command that you bow down and worship him. He will be “LIKE” Jesus Christ. He will be an imitation of Jesus Christ.

The false preachers that teach you should do everything the rulers command will be telling you that you better take the mark of the beast.

“You MUST do everything the government commands because Romans Chapter 13 teaches this.”

This is a lie, and it is completely false. It is very dangerous to believe this. YOU SHOULD NEVER DO ANYTHING THAT GOES AGAINST THE WORD OF GOD!!! That is the truth because God is the highest power.

When something doesn’t go against the word of God but the higher powers command you to do this, you should do it.

For example, if the state of Kentucky changes to speed limit to 25 miles per hour on all roads and all expressways. You should follow that law because it isn’t in conflict with the higher powers.

The United States Constitution is the supreme law in the United States and only God is above that law.

If a law goes against the constitution, we should follow the higher power which is the constitution. If the constitution ever went against God’s law, we would follow God’s law.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego is an example of NOT following the higher power. King Nebuchadnezzar commanded them to bow down and worship. This is similar to what the antichrist will do.

They didn’t bow down and GOD SAVED THEM. He rewarded them for following HIS COMMAND.

Exodus 20:4-6 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

When someone commands you to bow down to them or anything else, YOU DO NOT DO IT!!! “Thou shalt NOT bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.”

Daniel prayed to God even though the law said he couldn’t. He was thrown into the lion’s den. God saved Daniel.

The midwives in Egypt did not kill the male babies as Pharaoh commanded. He was definitely the higher power but he sure wasn’t a higher power than God Almighty.

Exodus 1:15-17 And the king of Egypt spake to the Hebrew midwives, of which the name of the one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah: 16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then ye shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live. 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.

God rewarded the midwives for doing what was right. They did not submit to the King of Egypt.

So, please, do not listen to false preachers or anyone else when they say you should do ANYTHING the government tells you to do. You should not do anything that goes against the laws of God.

This is why you need to know and understand the Bible. You should be reading it and studying it every day of your life. When you have free time, get your King James Bible out. Don’t turn on the TV. Don’t get your video games out. Get your Bible.

Then, you can follow God and what he says. If you don’t know what he says, it’s going to be tough to follow him.

I hope this has been helpful for you today.

When you have a conflict between higher powers (because there’s a lot of them), you must choose to obey God over man.

Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
