Many people like to point to the Bible and use wine as an example that it’s okay to drink alcohol.
The Bible actually says to stay sober. Being sober is the opposite of being drunk.
The word wine and wines is found in the Bible 233 times in 213 different verses.
The word juice is found only one time. The King James Bible uses the word wine to not only describe alcoholic drinks but fruit juices also.
Natural wine making produces an alcohol content of around 12%. When the Bible speaks of the alcoholic wine, this means you would have something at 12% or less alcohol content.
The Bible makes a clear distinction between alcoholic wine and non-alcoholic wine.
Proverbs 23:19-35 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags. 22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old. 23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding. 24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him. 25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice. 26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. 27 For a whore is a deep ditch; and a strange woman is a narrow pit. 28 She also lieth in wait as for a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men. 29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes? 30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine. 31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright. 32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder. 33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things. 34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast. 35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
Do you see verse 29 in the passage above? Then see verse 30. MIXED WINE is mentioned there. People who drink much mixed wine (or higher alcohol content) will become drunk. Do you see that? It describes someone being drunk perfectly in that passage.
And then what does verse 31 say?
God tells us to NOT LOOK UPON THAT TYPE OF WINE. This means wine that makes you drunk. If you can get drunk, then don’t look upon it.
To me, this is very clear and easy to see. You be the judge here. Is that what this says?
There’s much more within the Bible that tells us to stay SOBER. This means to NEVER get drunk. It says to STAY SOBER.
1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober. 7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night. 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
The Bible tells us the same thing over and over again.
BE SOBER.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
In other words, if you drink a little alcohol and it doesn’t affect you AT ALL then you’re sober. But do you really know when that’s going to change while you’re drinking?
No, you do not.
To answer the question: Does the Bible say it’s okay to drink alcohol? No, it does not.
Wine in the Bible can be non-alcoholic fruit juice or very low content of alcohol (all drinks with sugar have some alcohol content). Or, wine can be strong drink with higher alcohol content.
I was always told not to drink alcohol, but I didn’t listen. No one ever showed me proof in the Bible from God HIMSELF.
Read Proverbs Chapter 23.
This should be all the proof you need.
Be safe. Be sober. Be clear of mind at all times so you can walk in the Spirit and not the flesh.
Drinking beer, wine, bourbon, gin, vodka, tequila and other strong drinks will ONLY lead to what Proverbs 23 talks about.
You know it’s true. I know it’s true. Don’t ignore the truth and act like you didn’t know.
Follow the Bible. Let’s do our best to follow God’s rules for us. He only wants the best for us.
If you can’t give up alcohol, think about what that means. Alcohol is more important to you than GOD ALMIGHTY. You’ve placed alcohol above God HIMSELF.
God gave you life. He has the power to take it away any time He wants. He holds your breath in His hands.
Think about that. Give up the alcohol. It’s poison to your body. All the evidence is there. You know it’s true.
