We hear all of these so-called Bible experts and Bible scholars today calling hell by the name of Hades or Gehenna.
Or, they make up some fairy tale story about different types of hell.
They say, “Well, Hades is just a place of the dead. It’s not a place of hell fire, torment, and damnation.”
Or, the great Bible scholars will say, “Oh yes, Gehenna is just a valley in Jerusalem. It’s not a place of everlasting fire and torment.”
Why Do The Bible “Experts” Hate The King James Bible?
The so-called Bible experts, scholars, and false preachers HATE the King James Bible.
All you have to do to disprove false doctrine is to study the Scriptures. Search the Scriptures. For example, here’s a sermon showing you how to do this for Sheol, Gehenna, Hades, or Hell.
Why is the King James Bible hated it so much? I can only guess, but my guess is that the King James Bible makes everything so easy to understand that people won’t need their so-called expertise any more.
The Catholics outlawed the King James Bible at one time. That should tell you something. These are the same people who worship humans and statues. These are the same people who pray to humans.
We won’t need the “great” Bible scholars, professors, seminaries, and Bible colleges to charge us so much money to teach us the Bible. The truth is in the Bible. Hear what the Bible says:
1 John 2:26-27 These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you. 27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
Do you not see that warning today? “These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.”
Stop Trusting Preachers And Trust God
There are false preachers everywhere today teaching things that ARE NOT in the Bible. People trust their preachers and just take what the preacher says as the truth without checking anything.
I know because I WAS one of those people. Not any more, though. I’m done with that.
The Bible warns us over and over again to not be deceived. How will we not be deceived? We MUST go to the word of God and find the truth within the King James Bible.
Did The King James Bible Translators Mess Up When It Comes To Hell?
The so-called Bible experts say that the King James Bible is wrong when it translates γέεννα or Gehenna and ᾅδης or Hades as hell. Yes, you’ll find both of these words in the New Testament. And yes, they are Greek words.
In the Old Testament, you’ll find the word שְׁאוֹל or Sheol translated as grave, hell, and pit. But I’m sure the scholars and professors will tell us that the King James Bible is wrong there too.
“Pay us money, and we’ll show you where the King James Bible is wrong. Buy my book, and I’ll show you. Send your offering, and then I will help you.”
In reality, they are heretics teaching doctrines that aren’t within the Bible anywhere.
They can’t even get the simplest doctrine of all correct. And that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. All you have to do to be saved from hell is “Believe ON the Lord Jesus Christ.” But, these great scholars can’t even get that right.
“Hades is just a place of the dead,” they say.
“Hades is not a place of fire and torment,” they say.
Why Don’t We See What God Says About Hell In The Bible?
Well, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t we actually see what God says in his perfect Bible? Let’s start ignoring these false preachers and do what God tells us in the Bible.
We go to the truth. If you’ve believed on Jesus alone to save you, then you have the Spirit of Truth inside of you. He will teach you of all things.
We’re going to move into an example here, but I want you to remember that so many preachers and Bible scholars tell us that Hades is not a place of fire and torment. Remember that as we go to this example.
Luke 16:23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
The underlying Greek text for “hell” in Luke 16:23 is Hades. I’ve pasted the underlying words here so you can see them:
Luke 16:23 And [kaí] in [en] hell [háidēs] he lift up [epaírō] his [autós] eyes [ophthalmós], being [hypárchō] in [en] torments [básanos], and seeth [horáō] Abraham [Abraám] afar [makróthen] off [apó], and [kaí] Lazarus [Lázaros] in [en] his [autós] bosom [kólpos].
What do we so far in Luke 16:23?
Yes, The Greek Word Hades Shows A Man Being There In Torment And Fire
We see a man that is in hell being in torments. The Greek word for hell right there is Hades. But listen, we speak English. We don’t speak Greek so we don’t use the word Hades. The English word for Hades is hell. It’s that simple.
The experts say Hades is not a place of torment. Well, the Bible says different.
Now, take a look at the very next verse in Luke 16:24.
Luke 16:24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
What do we see now? This same man that was in torments says, “I am tormented in this FLAME.” Does that sound like hell to you? Hell is a place of eternal torment, eternal flame, eternal burning, and eternal damnation. It’s not a fun place. Ask that man right there in Luke Chapter 16. He wasn’t having fun. He wanted a single drop of water because he was burning in the flames of hell.
And yes, that Greek word right there is Hades. So, how can the great experts and scholars we have continue to teach something different? The King James Bible translators got it right.
The False Preachers Say, “Hades Isn’t A Bad Place!”
Do you see what this does when the “experts” say hell is not a bad place?
They say, “It’s just a place for the dead. No torment or anything like that.”
There is no fear of God, and there is no fear of burning in hell. Those false preachers sure don’t have ANY fear of God by spreading fairy tales.
If I were them, I would be very afraid. God doesn’t play games with his words. He magnifies his words above his own name.
Why Is Gehenna Translated To Hell The Same As Hades?
Now, what about Gehenna? Why does the New Testament translate both Hades and Gehenna as hell?
“Surely those King James Bible translators got that wrong too. Oh, I hate the King James Bible. It always proves me wrong,” says the false preacher.
People HATE when you say that we do have the perfect word of God in English. And I’ll say it myself right now: “The King James Bible is the perfect word of God in English.”
You would think the “Bible” experts would love that we actually have the perfect word of God, but they don’t.
Why? This way they can make up any fairy tales they want. They make up some good stories that don’t match the Bible AT ALL. And people are believing these fairy tales.
People want to hear something new. The false preachers say, “Oh yeah, I had this great revelation from God today.” Then they tell you, and it’s the opposite of what the Bible says. NEWS FLASH!!! That didn’t come from God.
Here’s The First Time The Word Hell Is Used In The New Testament
The first time the word hell is used in the New Testament is in Matthew Chapter 5 verse 22.
Matthew 5:22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Now see below for the underlying text for this Scripture:

The underlying word for hell in this verse is Gehenna. The Greek word seen here originates from Hebrew. This is VERY important to understand. Let me say it again.
The word Gehenna originates from the Hebrew language.
Wouldn’t it make sense that the Hebrews who were writing the New Testament with the Greek language might just use BOTH a Hebrew word for hell and a Greek word for hell? Yes, it makes perfect sense.
Gehenna Is Not Used Outside Of The Gospels But One Time
Gehenna is not used outside of the Gospels except for one verse. This verse is found in James Chapter 3 verse 6.
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
Do you think that’s a coincidence? It’s not.
If you go back to the beginning of the Book of James, we can find that James is writing the Book to the twelve tribes of Israel or the Hebrew speaking Israelites.
So yes, the King James Bible translators got it right by translating both Hades and Gehenna to the English word HELL.
The Apostle Paul Never Uses The Word Gehenna For Hell
The Apostle Paul is the Apostle to the Gentiles. He never uses the word Gehenna, which is from Hebrew origin, for hell.
Paul uses Hades every time in the underlying Greek text.
He doesn’t use Gehenna for hell one time in the Bible. Understand that today. He is writing to the Gentiles who are NOT a Hebrew speaking people.
Let’s summarize 3 of the words used for hell in the Bible: Sheol, Gehenna, and Hades.
A Summary Of Sheol
1) The Hebrew word Sheol is the word used for hell in the Old Testament. Here’s a verse with the word Sheol used for hell.
Deuteronomy 32:22 For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains.
Deuteronomy 32:22 For a fire [ʼêsh] is kindled [qâdach] in mine anger [ʼaph], and shall burn [yâqad] unto the lowest [tachtîy] hell [shᵉʼôwl], and shall consume [ʼâkal] the earth [ʼerets] with her increase [yᵉbûwl], and set on fire [lâhaṭ] the foundations [môwçâd] of the mountains [har].
That sure sounds like hell to me. Sheol is hell.
A Summary Of Gehenna
2) The Greek word Gehenna is from Hebrew origin and is used for hell in the New Testament. Here’s another verse with the word Gehenna used for hell.
Matthew 18:9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
Matthew 18:9 And [kaí] if [ei] thine [soû] eye [ophthalmós] offend [skandalízō] thee [sé], pluck [exairéō] it [autós] out [exairéō], and [kaí] cast [bállō] it from [apó] thee [soû]: it is [estí] better [kalós] for thee [soí] to enter [eisérchomai] into [eis] life [zōḗ] with one eye [monóphthalmos], rather than [ḗ] having [échō] two [dýo] eyes [ophthalmós] to be cast [bállō] into [eis] hell [géenna] fire [pŷr].
Gehenna is hell, and it sounds like a place of fire to me according to that verse.
A Summary Of Hades
3) The Greek word Hades is used for hell in the New Testament. Here’s Scripture showing what Hades is like.
Revelation 20:13-14 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Hades is hell. It’s death. It’s a lake of fire. There’s burning and torment there. You don’t want to go there.
Do Your Own Study Of The Word Hell Using The Scriptures
You can study all the Bible verses about hell within the Bible. You’ll find the word hell 54 times in 54 verses.
There is no difference in Sheol, Hades, or Gehenna when it comes to the translation of those words to hell.
The King James Bible translators got it right, and you can easily see this when you search the Scriptures.
John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
Search The Scriptures And Rightly Divide The Word Of Truth
We need to work to understand God’s word. When you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and then you get to work, God will provide wisdom and understanding.
Ask, and you shall receive.
2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Rightly dividing the word of truth here simply means that you see Sheol is the Hebrew word for hell, Gehenna is a Greek word for hell with Hebrew origins, and Hades is the Greek word for hell.
Some of the Hebrew’s writing the New Testament used the Greek word Gehenna because it has Hebrew origins. It’s that simple. It’s easy to see.
The King James Bible Got The Translation For Hell Correct
Trust the King James Bible. It is the perfect word of God in English.
And to end, remember, we speak English. We don’t call hell Sheol. That’s not an English word. We don’t call hell Gehenna. That’s not an English word. We don’t call hell Hades. That’s not an English word.
Our English word for this bottomless pit that is burning with eternal fire is the word “HELL.” The end. There is no argument. It is written. It is finished.
