Doctrinal Depths – “Once Saved, Always Saved: The Final Word”

Romans 8:28–39

🎙️ [SERIES INTRO]

Welcome to Deep Dive: KJV Bible Studies. I’m Pastor Joshua Tapp from True Words Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. This is where we go verse by verse through the King James Bible—no fluff, no compromise. This is Doctrinal Depths, where we break down the bold truths of Scripture that other preachers avoid. Today, we’re talking about eternal security—what some people call “once saved, always saved.” And we’re going to settle it once and for all with the Word of God. Let’s dive in.

🧱 [OPENING THOUGHT]

There’s a dangerous lie that says you can lose your salvation.

That you could be saved today and lost tomorrow. That you’re on a spiritual tightrope, one sin away from being cast into hell again.

But friend, that’s not the Gospel.

The truth is: If you’ve believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, you are saved forever—and nothing can change that.

Let’s prove it from Scripture, starting in Romans 8.

📜 [READ ROMANS 8:28–39]

Romans 8:28–39
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

🔗 [POINT 1: THE GOLDEN CHAIN CAN’T BE BROKEN]

Look at verse 30:

Romans 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.

This is what preachers call the “golden chain” of salvation:

  • Foreknown
  • Predestinated
  • Called
  • Justified
  • Glorified

Do you see any gaps?
Anyone falling off?
Any mention of losing it?

If you’re justified—you’re as good as glorified.

⚔️ [POINT 2: IF GOD BE FOR US… WHO?]

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Let me ask you something:
If God saved you, who can unsave you?

If He declared you righteous, who can reverse that?
Can the devil overturn it?
Can your sin undo it?
Can you undo it?

No!

Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.

You didn’t justify yourself—God did. And once He declares you righteous, it’s a done deal.

🩸 [POINT 3: CHRIST ALREADY PAID FOR IT ALL]

Romans 8:34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again…

If someone says, “You can lose your salvation,” what they’re really saying is:

“Jesus didn’t pay enough.”

But we know He did.

1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree…

He paid for every sin—past, present, future.

He died once. And it was enough.

🛡️ [POINT 4: NOTHING CAN SEPARATE YOU]

Paul takes a blowtorch to the lie that we can lose our salvation:

Romans 8:38–39
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Let me ask you: Are you a creature?
Then you can’t separate yourself either.

💬 [REAL-LIFE OBJECTION: “BUT WHAT IF I SIN?”]

People say, “Well what if you sin after you’re saved?”

Friend, you already have—and Jesus already paid for it.

“But what if I fall away?”
If you truly believed on Christ, you are sealed forever.

John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

📖 [CLEAR GOSPEL PRESENTATION – THE 7 KEY VERSES]

  1. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
  2. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  3. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
  4. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree…
  5. Acts 16:30–31 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
  6. John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
  7. John 10:28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

🙌 [CLOSING THOUGHT: YOU ARE SAFE FOREVER]

If you’ve believed on Christ—you’re saved. Forever.

You didn’t save yourself, and you can’t unsave yourself.
It’s not based on your performance. It’s based on the finished work of Jesus Christ.

So stop doubting. Stop worrying.
Stand firm. Live boldly. Preach confidently.
