If you aren’t looking for a church near Louisville, Kentucky, that’s okay too as I will tell you how to find a great church in your area. Church should be a top priority in your life for many different reasons.
What To Look for in a Church Near Me?
You don’t just want to pick any church. You don’t want to pick a church based on how nice the people happen to be. That’s something that I did early in my life. I would judge a church based on the kindness of the people.
It’s important for people, especially Christians and Baptist, to be kind and loving to people. But, it’s not the number one thing to look for in a church near you.
So, what exactly do you look for in a church?
You want to make the right decision. And when you find a church that meets Biblical requirements, you want to stay there for life. Dedicate yourself to serving in that church. This is a big decision. And you want to make sure the church is focused on the things of God.
“What Type of Churches are Near Me?”
You want to take a close look in the area you are located. For example, I live in the Louisville, Kentucky area. I actually live in the Southwest Louisville area near Pleasure Ridge Park.
So, when I do a Google search for churches near me, I get the following results as seen in this screenshot:
Your results are obviously going to be different than mine. When I take a look at this, I see Southeast Christian Church Southwest, Ridgewood Baptist Church, and Life Church Louisville. Since I have experience with churches, I immediately know that I don’t want to go to Southeast Christian Church (any of their campuses) or Life Church Louisville.
Why? Southeast Christian preaches a false Gospel. Life Church has a rock band. I am not interested in those things as they are not of God. And most likely, Life Church preaches a false Gospel as well. Most churches preach a false Gospel.
You need to narrow down your search. With me, I would search for “baptist churches near me.”
What is a Baptist Church?
A Baptist church is a Christian church. At True Words Baptist Church, we call ourselves Baptist because we teach and preach as John the Baptist taught. Jesus chose John the Baptist because he taught the truth. We teach and preach the truth.
There are many different types of Baptist churches too. For example, in our prior search for churches near me, there is a baptist church very close to my home. It is called Ridgewood Baptist Church.
I would have guessed that this would be the better church near me. But, we have to take a close look at the church before we decide to make a visit there. Most churches will have websites that show you who they are before you visit.
When I click on their website, what do I see? Here’s what I see. Let me show you.
Now listen, immediately caution flags should go up. At True Words Baptist Church, we are not a progressive congregation. We are in independent Fundamental Baptist Church. We stick to the old paths.
Jeremiah 6:16
Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
We do not follow after the new ways of this world which are evil. We believe the word of God to be the perfect word of God in every way. God’s words do not change. They are a rock. Steady. Constant. Awesome. Perfect.
Now, when we inspect the website of Ridgewood Baptist Church, what else do we see? Take a close look at this:
This church, obviously, is not of God. We stick to the word of God because God is good. God teaches us the truth. Accepting evil things in this world is not love. Gay and
Leviticus 18:22
Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
This church also believes it is okay for women to preach in church. The Bible is against women preaching in church. Women can preach the Gospel outside of church. But God gives us a clear commandment.
1 Corinthians 14:34
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
1 Timothy 2:11-12
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
The Bible is very clear on this, but, for some reason, Ridgewood Baptist Church ignores the clear commandments from God. Their “pastor” is “Pastor Molly” even though the Bible clearly commands that a pastor must be a man. Pastor Molly openly breaks God’s word and teaches her congregation to hate God. Love is equal to following God’s commandments.
This is a church near me that I would never think about visiting. And it is a Baptist Church. So, the top three churches that Google found near me are all horrible churches.
How Do I Find a Good Church Near Me?
If you live in any of the following areas, I highly recommend you come to True Words Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. Even if you have to drive further, you will know that you are in a good church that loves the Lord Jesus Christ and follows his commandments.

The best way to find a good church near you is to find an independent fundamental Baptist church. Now, some of these churches are also not good church. You have to be very careful with selecting a church.
This is what you need to examine and the questions you need the church to answer:
- What Bible Version is used?
- What is the Gospel of Jesus Christ?
- Do they go out and preach the Gospel?
The church near me that I am looking for must get all of the three question above correct. If not, I will not attend that church.
What Bible Version Does the Church Near Me Use?
Most likely, there will tens, hundreds, and even thousands of churches near your location. You’ll find all types of churches that use all types of Bible versions.
You need to find a church that uses only the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible. Not the New King James Version (NKJV). The church you want to find near you needs to be using the word of God in church. Only the King James Version should be used.
Other Bible versions delete key verses from the Bible and all the words are different. This causes confusion. False teachers will also say the King James Version is harder to understand when it is not. It’s easier to understand because it doesn’t change all the words that God used.
When words are changed, doctrines are changed. Truth is changed. Different words don’t say and mean the same thing.
If the church says you can use whatever Bible version you want, this is bad. Find a King James Version only church. Don’t go to any other church.
What is the Gospel the Church Near Me Teaches?
The Gospel is what separates false preachers from true preachers. Here’s a quick summary of the Gospel of Jesus Christ:
- We’re all sinners.
- There’s a penalty for sin.
- The penalty for sin is death and hell.
- If we had to pay our own penalty, we would go to hell.
- But God loves us so he sent Jesus Christ to pay our penalty.
- Jesus is the sacrifice for sins.
- Our good works do not save us.
- Jesus died, was buried, his soul was not left in hell, and he arose from the dead.
- Jesus fully paid our penalty of death and hell.
- We must believe on the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved.
- Believe = trust = faith in Jesus Christ alone.
- Jesus is “THE” Savior of the world.
- The moment you believe in Jesus you receive everlasting life.
- Everlasting life cannot be lost. Once saved, always saved.
- You must believe you have everlasting life.
If a church teaches different than the summary above, they are not of God. For example, many independent fundamental Baptist churches will teach that you must repent of your sin to be saved. This can be tricky depending on what they mean.
Jonah 3:10
And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.
Turning from sin is a good work that we can do. But good works don’t get us to heaven. We can’t earn salvation. Salvation is a free gift. It cannot be earned by us. Jesus paid for the gift for us. He wants to give it to you for free.
If a church near you teaches repent of your sins or turning from sin to be saved, don’t choose that church.
Does the Church Near Me Go Out and Preach the Gospel?
At True Words Baptist Church, our number one priority is going out into the community and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We try our best to go out daily preaching the Gospel. We miss a day here and there, but the majority of weeks we have been out preaching the Gospel all seven days each week.
You can see the work we do with soul winning or going out to win souls to Jesus Christ through his Gospel which means good news. If someone hears the Gospel and believes the Gospel, they are saved forever.
The vast majority of churches near me do not preach the Gospel. The vast majority of churches near you will not preach the Gospel. This is a huge problem. That church is clearly breaking the commandment of Jesus Christ to preach the Gospel. You don’t want to go to a church that will not preach the Gospel.
In your life, you need to be trained to preach the Gospel. We will train you to do that. It’s simple. It’s easy. And you get tons of practice with us because you have the opportunity to go out every day of the week with us into a very receptive area.
Look at the Schedule of Services at the Churches Near Me
At True Words Baptist Church, we have four church services every week. Being in church is very important. On Sunday, we have a Sunday School service at 10 am where we focus on going through the Bible verse by verse.
After Sunday School, we have a 10 minute break. And then we go to the Sunday Morning Worship Service at 11 am. We preach a Topical Sermon throughout the Bible. We stick closely to the word of God, and we will preach what the Bible says.
We are not ashamed to preach the Bible. We preach it with strength and power because God’s words have strength and power.
At the end of the Sunday morning service, we baptize anyone that has been saved. After the baptisms, we have a meal together with everyone who is at church. We serve the community. We eat together. We make friends. We are a family.
After we eat lunch together, we stay and talk and even play games. Then we go out soul winning together. Anyone who wants to come with us we gladly welcome them.
Later in the afternoon, we have our Sunday evening service. We then go through another sermon throughout the Bible. We learn God’s words together.
And then on Thursday night at 7 pm, we have a Prayer Service followed by a Bible Study. We go deep into the Bible during this Bible Study.
Again, our focus is on God first.
What is the Mission of the Church Near Me?
At True Words Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky we have a mission that we focus on, and we do not stray from that mission. Our mission matches the one given to us by Jesus Christ.
Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mark 16:15
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
You need to check the mission of the churches near you to make sure they match with the mission Jesus Christ gave to his churches.
Here is our mission in this order:
- Preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ
- Get People Saved
- Get People Baptized in Water After They Are Saved
- Teach Them All Things Within the Bible
And that is our mission. That is what we focus on at True Words Baptist Church. We not only strive to reach the area of Louisville, Kentucky. But we strive to reach the entire world. Everything we do at our church is focused on that mission.
For example, we have big events that are lots of fun. But we invite people all over the community to come so that we can preach the Gospel. You can see how we do this within some of our event videos.
We have donations for people to take. We give out food and clothing. This brings people to church. This gives us the opportunity to preach the Gospel to them so they receive everlasting life.
If the church near me is having big events but they aren’t preaching the Gospel, this is a sign to me to find a different church. It’s good to do good things for people, but the focus must be on the mission that Jesus Christ gave to us.
A Guide to Finding Good Churches Near Me
I think this is a good start to finding good churches near your location. Remember to look for a Baptist church that uses the King James Version only. That’s not the only thing to look for, though.
Look for a church that preaches the correct Gospel. Ask them the question: “What Must I Do To Be Saved?” And then see if their response matches the words of the Bible:
Acts 16:30-31
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ is the only thing that gets you to heaven. Doing good works does not get you to heaven. Anyone who preaches works for salvation is a false preacher. God is not happy with the church near me that preaches works to be saved.
Please. Make a good decision on the church you choose. If you do, you will please God. And yes, moving to an area with a very good church is a great move. Serving in that church the rest of your life will get you many rewards in heaven.
You will be in heaven forever if you have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ. Doing the work of God is very important because it profits others. Works don’t get you to heaven but your good works help others get to heaven. That’s why Jesus came and died for us.
