The Doctrine of the Kingdom of God

the doctrine of the kingdom of god

Bold. Eternal. Unshakable. The reign of Christ over all.

The Doctrine of the Kingdom of God reveals the divine rule of Jesus Christ — not of this world, yet over all things. This kingdom began with the King Himself, is growing through the Gospel, and will be fulfilled in His visible return. It is both present and future, spiritual and literal. Understanding the Kingdom of God keeps the believer’s heart anchored in eternity while laboring faithfully on earth.

The doctrine of the Kingdom of God is a vital part of the TWBC Statement of Faith.

John 18:36
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

1. The Doctrine of the Kingdom of God Is Present Within Believers

The Kingdom of God is not merely a political reign — it is God’s rule in the hearts of those who believe. Every believer who submits to Christ’s authority and walks in His Spirit participates in that kingdom even now.

Luke 17:20–21
And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.

The kingdom of God begins when the heart bows before the King. It spreads not through armies but through the preaching of the Gospel — one soul at a time.

2. The Kingdom of God Is Not of This World

The Kingdom of God cannot be legislated, conquered, or corrupted. It stands apart from human governments and earthly power. The church’s mission is not to rule this world, but to preach the Gospel until the King returns.

Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

The true kingdom does not depend on wealth, politics, or human might. It is built upon truth, righteousness, and the Spirit of God within His people.

3. The Kingdom of God Will Be Established on Earth

Though the Kingdom of God is spiritual today, it will one day be visible and literal when Jesus Christ returns to rule and reign. This is the fulfillment of prophecy — when the King of kings takes His rightful throne.

Revelation 11:15
And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.

That reign will be righteous, just, and eternal. The meek shall inherit the earth, and the glory of the Lord shall cover it as the waters cover the sea.

4. The Doctrine of the Kingdom of God Is Entered by Faith

No man enters this kingdom by birthright, heritage, or good works. Only through the new birth can anyone see or enter the Kingdom of God.

John 3:3
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Salvation opens the door to the kingdom — not religious ceremony, not tradition. The King Himself must grant entry through faith in His name.

See The Doctrine of Salvation for a full explanation of how to be born again.

5. The Kingdom of God Will Never End

Every human empire falls. Every nation passes away. But the Kingdom of God stands forever — for its King cannot die, and His Word cannot fail.

Daniel 2:44
And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

When Christ reigns, righteousness reigns. His dominion is everlasting and His government unshakable.
