Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
The doctrine of the blood stands at the very heart of the Gospel. From Genesis to Revelation, God reveals that forgiveness requires blood — not the blood of animals, but the perfect, sinless blood of Jesus Christ.
His blood redeems, cleanses, justifies, and grants eternal access to God. This doctrine is central to our Statement of Faith.
Hebrews 9:22
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
1. The Doctrine of the Blood Is God’s Eternal Plan
From the very beginning, God declared that life is in the blood. The first animal slain in Eden covered Adam and Eve’s shame, foreshadowing the ultimate sacrifice of Christ.
Every offering, every altar, and every drop of blood in the Old Testament pointed forward to the Lamb of God.
Leviticus 17:11
For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
Genesis 3:21
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
The Doctrine of Salvation and the doctrine of the blood cannot be separated — salvation was always by the blood, through faith.
2. The Doctrine of the Blood of Christ Redeems the Lost
The blood of Jesus Christ is not symbolic — it is literal and powerful. His shed blood purchased our redemption once and for all.
Nothing else could satisfy the justice of God or pay for the sins of man.
1 Peter 1:18–19
Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; 19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Ephesians 1:7
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.
The Doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches that His death was a substitutionary sacrifice — He took our place and bore our penalty in full.
3. The Blood Cleanses and Justifies
The blood does not merely cover sin; it cleanses it completely.
When a sinner believes on Christ, his record is washed clean — declared righteous in the sight of God.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
Romans 5:9
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Revelation 1:5
And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood.
The Doctrine of Sin exposes our guilt; the blood of Christ removes it forever.
4. The Blood Grants Access to God
Under the Old Covenant, only the high priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year.
But when Jesus shed His blood and rose again, the veil was torn — giving every believer direct access to God’s presence. The doctrine of the blood of Jesus Christ makes all this possible. He shed His blood for us.
Hebrews 10:19–20
Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh.
Ephesians 2:13
But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
No priest, ritual, or sacrament can bring a man nearer to God — only the blood can.
5. The Doctrine of the Blood Speaks for Eternity
The doctrine of the blood of Christ still speaks — not from the ground like Abel’s, crying for vengeance, but from Heaven, crying for mercy.
It is the eternal testimony of grace — the mark of redemption that can never be erased.
Hebrews 12:24
And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
Revelation 12:11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
Every victory, every prayer, and every promise of salvation rests on the blood that Jesus shed once for all.
Application and Affirmation
The doctrine of the blood silences pride, exalts grace, and glorifies God.
It reminds us that salvation cost Heaven’s best, that forgiveness is free but never cheap, and that every believer stands forgiven only because of the cross.
Colossians 1:20
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
