Sinless Savior. Risen Lord. Eternal God.
The doctrine of Jesus Christ reveals the person and work of the eternal Son of God — fully God, fully man, and the only way of salvation. This is a vital doctrine within our Statement of Faith.
Every truth in Scripture finds its center in Him. He is the Word made flesh, the Lamb of God, the risen Lord, and the coming King.
This doctrine of Jesus Christ stands at the heart of the Christian faith and is foundational to our complete Statement of Faith.
John 1:1–3
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1. Jesus Christ Is God
Jesus Christ is not a created being — He is the eternal God. The Scriptures call Him the Word, the Creator, and the Almighty. The doctrine of Jesus Christ declares His full deity, His equality with the Father and the Holy Ghost, and His eternal existence before all things.
Colossians 1:16–17
For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Hebrews 1:8
But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.
Revelation 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
Every name and title of deity belongs to Jesus Christ. To deny His divinity is to deny the true God of the Bible. The doctrine of Jesus Christ affirms His eternal power and Godhead.
2. Jesus Christ Became Man
In the fullness of time, the eternal Word was made flesh. He took upon Himself human nature without ceasing to be God — conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, and made in the likeness of men. The doctrine of Jesus Christ is a cornerstone of the Christian faith.
Matthew 1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Philippians 2:6–8
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Jesus Christ was both divine and human — tempted as we are, yet without sin. He ate, slept, wept, and suffered, showing perfect obedience to the Father in all things.
Hebrews 4:15
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
3. Jesus Christ Died for Our Sins
The central message of the Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. He offered Himself as the perfect and final sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.
1 Corinthians 15:3–4
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.
Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
1 Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches substitution — that He took our place, bore our punishment, and satisfied the wrath of God. The cross is not a symbol of tragedy but of triumph.
4. Jesus Christ Rose from the Dead
Three days after His death, Jesus Christ rose bodily from the tomb. His resurrection proved His deity, validated His sacrifice, and guarantees the believer’s eternal life. The doctrine of Jesus Christ must include a statement that He arose from the dead.
Luke 24:6–7
He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Acts 1:9
And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.
Romans 6:9
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the foundation of our hope. Because He lives, we will live also.
5. Jesus Christ Is Coming Again
The same Lord who ascended into heaven will return in glory and power. His second coming will fulfill all prophecy, bring judgment to the world, and establish His millennial kingdom.
Acts 1:11
This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.
Revelation 1:7
Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Revelation 19:16
And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches a literal, visible return of the Lord after the tribulation, before the wrath of God is poured out on the earth. He will reign in righteousness and truth forever.

To know Him is to know the Father. To believe in Him is to have eternal life. To follow Him is to live in truth.
Philippians 2:10–11
