The Father of Lights, the Fountain of Life, and the Ruler of All.
The doctrine of God the Father reveals the eternal source and sovereign ruler of all creation. He is the Almighty Creator, the righteous Judge, and the loving Father who sent His Son to redeem the world. Understanding who the Father is shapes how we pray, how we live, and how we trust. This doctrine is a part of our Statement of Faith.
1 Corinthians 8:6
But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
1. God the Father Is the Eternal Creator
Before time began, God the Father existed — self-sufficient, eternal, and unchanging. He spoke creation into existence by His Word and upholds it by His power. The doctrine of God the Father is a foundation of our statement of faith.
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Malachi 2:10
Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?
Creation is not an accident of chaos but the ordered design of a perfect Father.
He is the first cause of all life and the continuing sustainer of every breath.
2. God the Father Is Holy and Just
The doctrine of God the Father teaches that His holiness defines right and wrong. He cannot lie, sin, or act unjustly. Every judgment He makes is true and righteous.
Deuteronomy 32:4
He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.
Isaiah 6:3
And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.
The holiness of God the Father separates Him from all imperfection. He is not a reflection of man’s morality — He is the standard of it.
3. God the Father Loves and Disciplines His Children
The same Father who is holy and just is also merciful and tender. He loves His children with everlasting love yet disciplines them for their growth and sanctification.
Hebrews 12:6–7
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Jeremiah 31:3
The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.
True fatherhood is not indulgence but investment. The discipline of God proves our relationship with Him — and draws us closer, not away. The doctrine of God the Father is not negotiable in the Christian faith.
4. God the Father Sent the Son for Our Redemption
The doctrine of God the Father cannot be understood apart from His divine plan of salvation. Out of love, the Father sent His only begotten Son to die for sinners.
John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 8:32
He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Every act of redemption begins in the heart of the Father. His will and His love are the foundation of the Gospel itself.
5. God the Father Is Sovereign over All
Nothing escapes His rule. He governs nations, guides kings, and orders the steps of every believer. His sovereignty does not make Him distant — it makes Him dependable.
Psalm 103:19
The Lord hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.
Daniel 4:35
And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
To know the Father is to rest in His control. The world may shake, but His throne stands unshaken. Knowing the doctrine of God the Father is knowing the Creator of all things.
