Hi, today, I want to discus clothing for women according to the Bible. Many people today will wear whatever they feel is right in their own eyes.
And yes, I was one of those people for many years in my life. I did not always dress in clothes that were right in the eyes of the Lord, but they were right in my own eyes.
At the time, I didn’t care what anyone else thought including God. I was very wrong.
Now I Do Care What The Lord Thinks Of Me
But now, I do care what’s right in the eyes of the Lord.
1 Timothy 2:9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
As a woman, I should dress in modest apparel. I shouldn’t try to stand out from everyone else with fancy clothing, expensive clothing, braided hair, gold, and pearls.
All I need to do is dress modestly.
We Must Cover Our Nakedness
We shouldn’t walk around with our nakedness showing. What is our nakedness?
Exodus 28:42 And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:
The Bible defines nakedness. From the loins to the thighs is considered nakedness in God’s eyes. The world defines nakedness differently. The world says that no clothing at all is nakedness. God says different so we listen to God.
We should cover our nakedness. This means we should cover our thighs completely down to the knees. “Well, that’s old fashioned.” Well, God is old-fashioned, and he is the boss.
God Saved Us And We Want To Please Him
Now that I know the Lord as my personal savior and read his word daily, I want to try and please him. If anyone wants to please God and do the things he wants, we must turn to the Bible for the answers.
As a mother of three girls, it is important to know the truth according to the Bible. I want to make sure my children know how God expects them to act and dress.
Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
We should be teaching our children to do the things that God wants. God wants us to cover our nakedness. The world wants us to show everything.
We should always follow what God wants.
Here’s A Very Controversial Belief
There is one last verse on clothing that I want to talk about. For the longest time, I wore pants and shorts as did my daughters.
Girls and women in this world today are expected to wear pants and shorts. If not, something is wrong with you. People will look at you like you’re weird. “You always have a dress on.”
Why is that? Please allow me to explain.
Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
After learning God’s words we have chosen to wear skirts and dresses only. Why? You may not see that in the Scripture above, but take a closer look.
“The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man.” What does that mean? In today’s world, we don’t really see anything classified as “men’s clothing.” But there must be something because the Bible refers to clothing that is ONLY for a man.
Well, in today’s world, a dress is considered clothing only for women. I am sure that’s probably changing in today’s world. It will soon be “okay” for men to wear dresses in this world.
Men’s Clothing Must Be Pants
So, we believe that men’s clothing MUST be pants as a dress or skirt is clothing for women only.
Again, we believe that Deuteronomy 22:5 is referring to pants. Yes, this is very old-fashioned. Again, God doesn’t need to change his words so they will be very old-fashioned.
Does the verse specifically call out pants? No, it doesn’t. But we believe there must be some piece of clothing that is for men only. We are going with the belief that pants are for men.
We Will Wear Women’s Clothing Only
I know by wearing women’s clothing only that this pleases the Lord. I know most people get conflicted about this issue.
But in our world today, there especially needs to be a distinction between men and women. By wearing dresses, another person immediately knows that I am a woman. I believe this is what God wants.
I too used to say, “Well, I’m wearing women’s pants or women’s shorts so it’s okay.” The truth of the matter is that I was simply trying to make myself happy.
Dresses and skirts and pants are the clothing that separate men and women. When I see Deuteronomy 22:5 I take it very serious. I don’t want to do anything that would make me an abomination (which means greatly hated) by the Lord.
God Is A Very Serious God, and I’m Not Taking Any Chances
Yes, God is a very serious God, and I worry about making him happy and not everyone else. Yes, people might think we are weird, but God sure doesn’t. And I’ll take that any day.
Why take a chance? I don’t want to be seen as an abomination to God, and that’s why I’ve made this choice.
When I need help in life, I would like to be able to be seen and heard by God. I want to stay close to God.
A Quick Summary About Clothing In The Bible
So, I would like to summarize what we just talked about. The Bible is very clear on our outward appearance.
In 1 Timothy 2:9 it teaches us to dress modest. To clarify what modest means in 1 Timothy 2:9, we can read Exodus 28:42, which tells us anything above your thigh is consider nakedness.
I want you to understand that if you’re a woman who wears pants that will not send you to hell. I am not saying that at all. This is something that pleases or displeases God, but it doesn’t send you to hell.
Your Clothing Does Not Get You To Heaven Or Send You To Hell
The Bible is very clear that there is only one way to heaven.
John 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
All you have to do is believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior and he will save you. There is nothing we can do to earn our salvation and that includes your appearance.
Your outward appearance is definitely not the most important thing, but it does hold some importance to God because he talks about it in the Bible.
God commands us to do a lot of things in the Bible. None of us follow every commandment all the time. Not even close. The Bible tells us none of us do right all the time, and that is why we need a savior.
Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Just remember, if you accept Jesus as your personal savior you have everlasting life.
After that, you should want to do your best to please God. And women dressing like women and men dressing like men is something that pleases God. Yes, our world has gotten away from this, but we’re going to take a stand and get back to what God wants.
