[2] The title of the sermon: “PROVERBS CHAPTER 25.”

Verse By Verse Study Through Proverbs

  • We are getting closer to the end of the Book of Proverbs. Let’s continue in chapter 25 verse by verse.
  • Let’s get started there in verse 1.

[3] Proverbs 25:1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.

  • We know that we’re continuing to read and study the proverbs of Solomon.
  • All of these proverbs came from Solomon who God filled with wisdom and knowledge.
  • This wisdom and knowledge is from God Almighty.

We know that the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied these proverbs here and continued them on to us.

  • Solomon was the son of David and king over Israel as a united nation.
  • Once Solomon died, the kingdom was split into Israel in the north and Judah in the south.
  • King Hezekiah, a good king, was ruler over Judah in the south about 200 years after Solomon.

Proverbs Chapter 25 doesn’t tell us who these people were who recorded these proverbs.

  • We simply know that they were men of Hezekiah king of Judah.
  • We also see this in the Book of Isaiah.

[4] Isaiah 36:22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.

  • These could be the men of Hezekiah who copied out these proverbs of Solomon for us.
  • Thank God for them. Let’s continue in verse 2 of Proverbs Chapter 25.

[5] Proverbs 25:2-3 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. 3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings is unsearchable.

  • Did you know God conceals many things within His words for us to search out?
  • He does, and it is the glory of God to do so. The honor of kings is to search out a matter.
  • Good kings search for answers. They search out the heaven for height. The earth for depth.
  • The heart of kings is unsearchable. Do you remember what God did for Solomon?

[6] 1 Kings 4:29-31 And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 30 And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31 For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.

  • God gives Solomon wisdom and understanding EXCEEDING MUCH.
  • He gave him as much as the sand that is on the sea shore. And there’s a lot of sand on the sea shore.
  • But listen to the very next verse. Remember, kings search out matters.

[7] 1 Kings 4:32-34 And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five. 33 And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. 34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

  • Solomon had so much wisdom that he spake of trees, beasts, fowl, creeping things, and fishes.
  • He searched out all of these things. When you search out these things, you find God.

[8] Job 12:7-10 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: 8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? 10 In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

  • Hey, if you don’t believe in God, go search all of creation out. You will see God. You will find Him.
  • Every living thing was created by Jesus Christ. And you’ll see the most intelligent design within creation.
  • You won’t believe that everything just happened and fell into place perfectly. GOD DID ALL THESE THINGS.

[9] Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: 7 Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, 8 Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.

  • Solomon wrote this proverb. Go take a look at the ant. Watch the ways of the ant and be wise.
  • Who do you think put this wisdom into the ant? GOD DID THIS.
  • You can search your entire life, and you’ll never find the end of the amazing things God has done.
  • Search them out. Amazing is what you will find. There are mysteries of God all over the place.
  • Take a look. Open your eyes. Look to the heavens. Look to the earth. Look to His creation. Find Him.

[10] Job 11:7-9 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? 8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? 9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

  • God is everywhere. You don’t know all of His ways. He conceals many things.
  • He will reveal many of His secrets to you. But you will never be as great as Him or know as much as Him.
  • Always remember that. When you think things aren’t fair, understand that God knows fairness.
  • He knows fairness better than you. He understands and knows what you’re going through.
  • Find God, but don’t ever think that you are higher than Him or know more than Him.
  • Wisdom, knowledge, and understanding comes from Him. Desire wisdom. Search for it. King Solomon did.

[11] Proverbs 25:4-5 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. 5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

  • When you’re reading through Proverbs, always read the next verses as many times they will explain more.
  • Verse 4 and 5 go together here. “Take away the DROSS from the silver.” What is the dross?
  • The dross is the scum, the waste, or the worthless part. It’s the crust of the fine metal.
  • Take that away and a vessel for the finer will come forth. You see the comparison to this in verse 5.

Get The Wicked Out And Establish Righteousness

“Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.”

  • This is the truth. The righteous king doesn’t want wicked people around him.
  • If wicked people are constantly going against him, his throne will not be established.
  • You see this over and over again with king David, as an example. You see this with other kings.
  • They had evil people around them and had trouble establishing their throne.
  • Look at this Scripture which is very similar to this Proverbs Chapter 25 Scripture.

[12] Isaiah 1:25-27 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin: 26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counsellers as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city. 27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.

  • God will purge all the wickedness. He will get rid of the dross and the tin. He gets rid of the worthless.
  • And yes, there are many worthless people out there who are evil and wicked. They hate God.
  • He will get rid of all these people.

[13] 2 Timothy 2:19-21 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. 21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.

  • We are to get rid of evil and wickedness out of our life. We are to stay away from it.
  • Purge yourself from all these things. Be a vessel unto honor and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Establish His throne in your life and understand He is King of Kings.

[14] Proverbs 25:6-7 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: 7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

  • Do not believe yourself to be higher than you actually are and put yourself up there with the king.
  • For example, do you think you’re wiser than Solomon? Do you think you’re up there with him?
  • Even worse: do you think you’re up there with God. Do you think you are like Him?
  • In other words, always humble yourself and don’t raise yourself. False preachers teach the opposite.

It’s better for the king to call you up, “Come up hither,” than to put yourself up there. He’ll call you up.

  • It’s far better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly than to be with the proud.
  • See what this psalm says about this exact same subject.

[15] Psalm 131:1-3 LORD, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. 2 Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child. 3 Let Israel hope in the LORD from henceforth and for ever.

  • People who know God understand that they aren’t high and lifted up. God is high and lifted up.
  • His Son, Jesus, is lifted up. God is on the throne, and we aren’t. We humble ourselves.
  • We don’t lift ourselves up as false preachers will teach. They say, “You are like God.” No, we aren’t.
  • We are important to God, but we are not God. We need to know that.
  • We need to behave and quiet ourselves as a child that is weaned of his mother.

[16] Proverbs 25:8-10 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame. 9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: 10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

  • Do not go forth hastily to strive or to fight with others. There are neighbors who do this constantly.
  • What are you going to do when your neighbor puts you to shame?
  • What do people usually do when they get in this situation? They go to others around them.
  • They go to other neighbors, and try to get them on their side.
  • Instead, these people should go directly to the neighbor they are striving with, but they won’t.

“Debate thy cause with thy neighbor himself; and discover not a secret to another.”

  • Keep it between you and the neighbor. Don’t run your mouth to everyone else.
  • If you won’t do this, you will be put to shame and your infamy or total loss of reputation will be with you.
  • “Thine infamy turn not away.” Many people will not hear these words, but they must be very important.

[17] Proverbs 30:33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

  • If you want to constantly force your wrath upon people, you will always be at strife with others.
  • You don’t want constant strife in your life. Live peaceably with all men if it be possible.

[18] Proverbs 25:11-12 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. 12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

  • People who are obedient to God love to be reproved or corrected by using God’s words.
  • We do not use our wisdom. We use the wisdom of God to rebuke and reprove.
  • This should be you. “A word FITLY SPOKEN is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”
  • A wise reprover upon an obedient ear is as an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold.
  • That’s what you want to be to others who love God. You’re always speaking the truth.

[19] Proverbs 15:23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

[20] Proverbs 24:26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right answer.

[21] Isaiah 50:4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

  • This speaks of Jesus Christ. Be like Him and notice how He speaks words to him that is weary.
  • When people need words to help them, will you be there for them? Learn the truth and speak it.

[22] Proverbs 25:13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

  • The cold of snow in the time of harvest refreshes. Harvest time can be very hot and the cold refreshes.
  • A faithful messenger is refreshing to the soul of his masters.
  • Will you be a faithful messenger? Are you going to speak God’s words to others no matter what?

[23] Proverbs 25:25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

  • We are to bring the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others. Jesus died for all people.
  • He was buried, His soul went to hell, and He arose from the dead. He is the Savior of the world.
  • He gives everlasting life to all that believe on Him. This is the best news ever.
  • For all who have believed on Him, their soul will be in heaven and their body will be resurrected one day.
  • You don’t have to die and go to hell because Jesus Christ came to save you. Put your faith in Him alone.
  • Now that you know the truth, will you be a faithful messenger? What about faithful to death?

[24] Philippians 2:25-27 Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants. 26 For he longed after you all, and was full of heaviness, because that ye had heard that he had been sick. 27 For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.

[25] Philippians 2:28-30 I sent him therefore the more carefully, that, when ye see him again, ye may rejoice, and that I may be the less sorrowful. 29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness; and hold such in reputation: 30 Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.

  • Epahroditus was near to death because for the work of Christ that he did. He didn’t regard his life.
  • He regarded the message that needed to be preached. Will you do the same?
  • We must be faithful messengers. We must begin to care more for the good news than our own life.

[26] Proverbs 25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

  • Joyce Meyer would be an example of this. False preachers are examples of this verse.
  • They boast of gifts that they say came from God when we know that they didn’t.
  • God doesn’t give gifts to people who tell lies about Him and His words. They exalt themselves.

We exalt God. We don’t exalt men and women as they love their high places and their riches.

  • They are like clouds and wind without rain. Rain is good. Clouds and wind bring rain.
  • The rain feeds the earth and causes growth. These false preachers have no rain.

[27] Romans 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

[28] James 4:16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.

[29] Proverbs 20:6 Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

[30] Galatians 6:3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.

  • We do not boast about our goodness because we know the truth about that.
  • There are none good but God. We are from the earth. God is from the heavens above.

[31] Proverbs 25:15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.

  • Soft words and long forbearing will persuade a prince. A soft answer turns away wrath.
  • Abigail did this with David. Jacob did this with Esau. Rahab did this with the spies.
  • Watch your words and be careful of what you are speaking to others. Soft answers are good.

[32] Proverbs 25:16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

  • When you find something good and sweet as honey, it’s best to eat that which is sufficient for you.
  • If you overdo it, you will vomit. God’s words are as honey, but you must be careful.
  • You must not think you are so wise and so high above everyone else because you know God’s words.
  • We must not put ourselves in a higher position than where we belong. Satan did this.
  • You don’t want to be like that. We just talked about this earlier in this chapter. We are to be humble.
  • Be careful what you think of yourself. Are you high and mighty? You’ve gone too far.

[33] Proverbs 25:17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

  • In other words, are you always at your neighbor’s house? Do you stay with them constantly?
  • When we help someone, they aren’t to stay with us for long periods of time.
  • “Lest he be weary or tired of thee, and so hate thee.” Give your neighbor some time.

Get Your Feet Out of Your Neighbor’s House

God says, “Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor’s house.” Same thing goes for friends.

  • If you are too overbearing or constantly want to be with someone, they will be weary of you.
  • They may get tired of you. So calm it down, back off, and give people some space.

[34] Proverbs 25:18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

  • The Bible warns you about bearing false witness over and over again. Don’t do this.
  • If you do, you are like a maul, a sword, and a sharp arrow. Don’t speak like the piercings of a sword.
  • Don’t devise mischiefs with your tongue and make it like a sharp razor.

[35] Psalm 57:4 My soul is among lions: and I lie even among them that are set on fire, even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows, and their tongue a sharp sword.

[36] Psalm 140:3 They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.

[37] James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.

  • Again, don’t lie. Don’t bear false witness. Do not defile your entire body with your tongue.

[38] Proverbs 25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

  • Who do you have confidence in? If we were all in trouble, would you have confidence in me?
  • Would you have confidence in your husband or your wife? When you run into trouble, who do you trust?
  • Who do you put your confidence in? Would you go to an unfaithful man in time of trouble?
  • That would be very dumb. It’s like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint. It’s no good.

You must put your confidence in a faithful man. Who is the definition of faithful? Jesus Christ. He is the Rock.

  • Rock of Ages = Jesus Christ. Cleave to Him. When you have trouble, Jesus is there in that time of trouble.
  • He isn’t like the rest of us who have trouble with faith at moments in our life. He is always faithful.
  • Let me give you an example from the Apostle Paul’s life.

[39] 2 Timothy 4:16-18 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge. 17 Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion. 18 And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

  • No man stood with him but they all forsook him. Who stood there with him, though?
  • THE LORD STOOD WITH ME, AND STRENGTHENED ME. The Lord shall deliver me.
  • The Lord shall preserve me. He is always faithful. Everyone else will forsake you. But Jesus Christ won’t.

[40] Proverbs 25:20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre, so is he that singeth songs to an heavy heart.

  • Sometimes it’s not time to sing a song. For someone who has a heavy heart, they don’t need a song.
  • Weeping and crying will help the person more than a song.
  • Singing a song to a person with a heavy heart is like taking a garment away in cold weather. Not good.
  • It’s cold outside, and I come and take your coat from you. Same as singing a song to a heavy heart.
  • Vinegar upon nitre causes a hissing sound, supposedly. And this makes sense with this verse.

[41] Ecclesiastes 3:4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

  • There is a time for everything. Sometimes it’s not a time to be cheerful. It’s time to weep and mourn.
  • Remember that as you can be a much greater help to others in times of need.

[42] Proverbs 25:21-22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

  • We learned in Proverbs Chapter 24 to not rejoice when our enemies fall.
  • Remember, our enemies may not be the enemies of God. God says to feed them when they are hungry.
  • God says to give them drink when they are thirsty. This will heap coals of fire upon their head.
  • We are not to do evil to our enemies. We are to good to our enemies. This is clear throughout the Bible.

[43] Romans 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

  • God takes care of the revenge. We are to good to others at all times.

[44] Matthew 5:44-45 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

  • We are to continue to do good to our enemies even when they do evil to us. God takes care of the rest.

[45] Proverbs 24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

  • Again, do not repay evil with evil. This is God’s commandments to you, and yes, this is difficult.
  • But you must trust in God. His ways are better. Our fleshly instincts tell us to do the opposite.
  • But, we trust in God’s ways and know His ways are better.

[46] Proverbs 25:23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

  • An angry countenance drives away a backbiting tongue just as the north wind drives rain away.
  • Here’s some good wisdom for you. If you want to put a stop to a backbiting tongue, anger will do it.
  • If you want to make me angry, come to me with a backbiting tongue.
  • And my anger will drive your backbiting tongue away. Backbiting is slandering someone who is absent.

Don’t Be A Backbiter And A Backstabber

For example, let’s say I preach something and you act as if you agree with everything I say.

  • You never say anything to me directly. I preach that salvation is through faith alone without works.
  • You sit there and you act as if you believe salvation is though faith alone without works.
  • But, then when I’m not here, you slander what I’ve preached and talk bad about me.
  • You teach everyone that salvation is through works when I’m not here. ANGER WILL COME.
  • And I will drive your backbiting tongue out of here. God teaches us much about backbiters.

[47] Romans 1:30-32 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

  • A trait of reprobates or rejects is backbiting. They hate God. And He hates them.
  • Backbiting is not good, and we need to cease from backbiting at all times.
  • If something needs to be said to someone, we say it to their face.

[48] Proverbs 25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

  • This is why we are building a small house now.
  • In the past, we had bigger homes so I could get further away from Pam while she is brawling.
  • Now, I know that it’s better to have a small house because I can get to the attic easier.
  • A wide house doesn’t help, but getting into the corner of the housetop is better because the Bible says so.
  • She’s not climbing up into the attic. I think she’s only been in the attic once or twice in her life.
  • Also, I am putting a lock on the attic door so she can’t throw things through the attic door.

You all know I am just kidding, but this Scripture is a warning to brawling women. Men don’t like brawling women.

  • And the world is producing many more of these women. Most of them look like men now.
  • They want to be the man of the house, and they act like it too.
  • In my house, I will be the man of the house. And if my wife and children don’t like it, too bad.
  • Every man needs to stand up and be the man of the house. God commands this.
  • The brawling woman needs to shut her mouth and submit to her husband as God commands.

[49] Proverbs 21:19 It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.

  • Women need to stop the fighting, the contentions, and the anger at their husbands.
  • And husbands need to make sure they aren’t causing these problems too.
  • Men, be the leaders and do your job. LEAD THE HOUSE. It is your job. LEAD YOUR WIFE. It is your job.
  • If not, you might be the cause of this Scripture.
  • If you produce a brawling wife, you might as well live in the wilderness or in the attic.

It’s your choice. Do a better job. Lead your wife. Or live in the corner of the attic. Not in the large part of the attic.

  • In the little corner of the attic. Just don’t tell her which corner you are in. You don’t want to be found.
  • Don’t put too much on your wife as I do at times. Right now we have too many things happening.
  • But, we’ll get through it together as a family and we’ll come through it as gold on the other side.
  • My brawling wife will settle down. Again, just kidding.

When I was writing this, she was brawling. So, I had to mention this.

  • Before we finish the house, I am going to build a nice spot in the corner of the attic just in case.
  • It gets very hot in the summer so I might ask the HVAC guys to put a vent up there for me.
  • Let’s keep going in Proverbs Chapter 25. Let’s get some better news.

[50] Proverbs 25:25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

  • When you are thirsty, there’s nothing better than cold water. NOTHING. Not even a cold soda.
  • Not iced tea. Water is so much better. And good news from a far country is just like that.
  • Imagine someone coming from a far country to give you good news.
  • “Hey, it’s so much better over here on the other side of the world.”
  • Or, “Hey, it’s so much better up here in heaven. You don’t want to miss out on heaven.”
  • There is no better news to YOUR SOUL than the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

[51] Isaiah 52:7 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!

  • We all should be bringing good tidings to everyone around. This is our job. Bring the good news.
  • Most will just roll their eyes at you now, but who cares? Bring the good news anyway.
  • Bring the good news with excitement and joy. That person can be saved and given everlasting life.
  • Listen to one of my favorite Scriptures in the entire Bible. We don’t read this only around Christmas.
  • We need to read this at all times and imagine the overwhelming joy these people had at this time.

[52] Luke 2:10-11 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

  • That day was a great day, but every day can be a great day because a person is saved through Jesus.
  • Jesus came that day for the purpose of saving each and every person. This is good news.
  • Jesus died for the sins of everyone. That means you and I. He is THE SAVIOR and THE CHRIST.
  • Bring that good news to people. Talk to them. Care about them. Give them the truth.

[53] Proverbs 25:26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

  • Let me be clear. A righteous man should NEVER fall down before the wicked.
  • We do not yield to the wicked. We are not to be deceived by the wicked.
  • We are not to lead into this troubled fountain or corrupt spring. Don’t give in to that trash.
  • For example, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t yield to worshipping a false god.

Never Bow Down To Evil

They chose death over yielding to this wickedness. NEVER fall down to these things.

  • I would rather die. I would rather God take me out of this life than to do wicked things.
  • For example, I will ask right now. God please take me out of this life to stop me from doing wickedness.
  • I don’t want to do wickedness. I would rather die. We must choose God and righteousness.
  • We cannot yield to vaccines, abortion, or the LGBTQ abominations. I would rather die than yield to them.
  • I would rather starve to death than yield to them. THEY ARE WICKED. I do not fall down to them.

[54] Proverbs 25:27 It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory is not glory.

  • This is related to what we learned earlier about eating too much honey.
  • Eat what is sufficient for you and not too much. So for men to search their own glory is not glory.

For example, many people believe themselves to be glorious and fabulous.

  • The LGBTQ crowd believes themselves to be fabulous but they are actually abominable.
  • Many people wear shirts telling you how fabulous and glorious that they are.
  • If you think you are glorious, you have a big problem as you don’t have any glory.
  • God is glorious, and we raise Him and glorify Him. Jesus Christ glorified His Father.

[55] John 5:44 How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

  • We don’t honor and glorify each other as all the church preachers do for each other.
  • “Oh, this man is so great. He is a great man of God. He is the greatest man I’ve ever known.”
  • “He is so amazing.” Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Glory and honor only comes from God.
  • Preachers of God’s word, especially, should understand that we don’t boast about our own glory.
  • Eating too much honey will make you sick just as glorying about your greatness will make you sick.

[56] Proverbs 25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

  • We all have much trouble at times ruling over our own spirit.
  • When we can’t rule over our own spirit, this is like a city that is broken down and without walls.
  • There is no protection. You just let it all out, and let it all go. You are breaking down.
  • You can’t do this. You must RULE OVER your own spirit.
  • If you can’t rule over your spirit, what can you rule over? Nothing.

[57] Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.

  • Whenever you feel something coming on, it’s time to remember these Scriptures.
  • Bring the word of God back to mind. He that ruleth his spirit is stronger than he that taketh a city.
  • You don’t want to be a weak person like a broken down city without walls. Imagine that.
  • Be strong through the word of God. Use this wisdom. Bring His words to mind when you need them.

[58] James 1:19-20 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

  • We need to listen more, speak less, and be slow to wrath. Calm down. Be peaceful within.
  • The wrath of MAN worketh not the righteousness of God. Instead, calm down and receive God’s words.
  • Remember what He says. Live by the word of God. Stop living by emotions. Catch yourself.
  • Ask yourself, “Am I living by my emotions? I need to stop. I need to read God’s words.”
  • Bring the Scriptures. They will reprove you and guide you in the right direction.

Swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath. Rule your spirit. Slow to anger. Understand more by not getting angry.

  • Anger doesn’t lead to us understanding more. We must learn to rule over our spirit. God helps us.
  • Rely on Him to help you and guide you. He knows what He’s doing.

Let’s pray.
