Elijah and The Ravens

The Bible Story about Elijah and the ravens is an awesome story.

This is a short story, but it’s a very powerful story to remember and truly shows us what God can do when we trust in Him as the prophet Elijah did.

Some people who don’t believe what the Bible says thinks stories like these are just fairy tales.

Well, this is a true story because God’s words are true. Let’s read this amazing Bible story straight from the King James Bible.

You can believe all of God’s words and know they are true words!

Elijah Tells The Evil King Ahab About The Drought

This Bible story starts out in 1 Kings 17 when we first meet Elijah the prophet (first mention of Elijah in the Bible). The First Book of Kings is the 11th book of the Bible.

1 Kings 17:1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

So we learn that Elijah was a Tishbite as He is referred to as Elijah the Tishbite 6 times in the Bible. This means that Elijah was from Tishbi in Gilead as the verse states He was an inhabitant of Gilead.

King Ahab was an evil king over Israel. King Ahab was the son of Omri and reigned over Israel in Samaria for 22 years.

So Elijah tells the evil King Ahab that there will not be dew or rain in the coming years. Elijah is a prophet of God meaning everything He states as prophecy is true because it’s coming directly from God Himself.

The Word of The Lord Comes to Elijah

1 Kings 17:2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

Elijah gets His direction straight from the word of the LORD. Let’s see what God has to say. When God speaks, we need to listen just as Elijah listened.

1 Kings 17:3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

God gives Elijah specific directions. The LORD tells Elijah to get up and turn eastward. He tells Elijah to hide himself by the brook Cherith, which is before Jordan.

So God gives very detailed and specific instructions to Elijah just as He gives us detailed and specific instructions within the Bible regarding the true Gospel of Jesus Christ.

We need to take Elijah’s lead here and do exactly what God says. Elijah was a great man because He listened to God and followed His direction.

God Commands the Ravens to Feed Elijah

1 Kings 17:4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

God tells Elijah that He shall use that brook Cherith for his drinking water.

Then God does an amazing wonder and commands the ravens to feed Elijah. Wow! I find this amazing because God is taking care of Elijah and keeping him alive by using the ravens.

God created animals and uses animals throughout the Bible for many different uses. This Bible story is just one example of that.

Elijah Went And Did What He Was Commanded

When God speaks, He gives us commandments that we better follow. If we want to be as powerful as Elijah, we better start by listening to God and doing what He says.

If we want God’s help in life, we need to do exactly what He tells us to do.

1 Kings 17:5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

So Elijah did exactly what God asked him to do. Will you do what God asks you to do?

Now, in the story, Elijah is by the brook Cherith before Jordan and is living there.

The Ravens Bring Elijah Food

God commanded the ravens, and the ravens are doing what God wants. This shows the great power of God over all living creatures. All animals obey the commands from God.

1 Kings 17:6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

The ravens bring Elijah bread and flesh in the morning and bread and flesh in the evening. The brook of Cherith provides drinking water for Elijah.

Conclusion to Elijah and The Ravens

I find this to be an awesome story about Elijah and the ravens.

I hope you find joy in this story as I do.

Remember that God says He will take care of us if we trust in Him. Trust in God as Elijah trusted in Him.

He will take care of you when you put all your trust in Him. When you’re starving and need food one day, maybe the Lord God Almighty will send food your way through His creation.
