[2] The title of the sermon: “A SHARP TWOEDGED SWORD.”

  • We know that the word of God is a sharp two edged sword. The Bible tells us this many times.
  • Let’s look at some of those Scriptures today and learn more about this sharp twoedged sword.

[3] Psalm 149:5-9 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand; 7 To execute vengeance upon the heathen, and punishments upon the people; 8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honour have all his saints. Praise ye the LORD.

  • This is talking about the saints or the people who have been saved by God. Be joyful in glory.
  • Sing aloud. Let the praise of God be in your mouth. “And a twoedged sword in their hand.”
  • Make sure you see why we are to have the praises of God in our mouth and a twoedged sword.
  • What does verse 7, 8, and 9 say EXACTLY? There are 5 different things listed there:
  1. To execute vengeance upon the heathen.
  2. To execute punishments upon the people.
  3. To bind their kings with chains.
  4. To bind their nobles with fetters of iron.
  5. To execute them the judgment written.
  • The judgment written is within the word of God. God tells you how He will judge already.
  • For example, if you believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, you will be saved right now.
  • You will never see the judgment of hell. If you believe not, you will be cast into hell forever.
  • We are to take this twoedged sword in our hand and preach these things.
  • “This honor have all his saints.”

If you have the twoedged sword in your hand as verse 6 says, this means you must have picked it up.

  • You must have opened it. You must have read these words. You must have studied these words.
  • You must have them stored up in your heart and in your mind. Be ready to use them.
  • You don’t pick up a sharp two edged sword unless you’re ready to use the sword.
  • Have it ready to use. This two edged sword that you have is to be used in spiritual battles.
  • We’re going to learn what this means as we go throughout the Scriptures today.

This is why we teach and preach the importance of God’s words. You need to be reading the King James Bible.

  • The other corrupted versions are not the full truth. They have been corrupted.
  • So, when you look at them as a whole, the modern perversions are not the word of God.
  • They are not a sharp twoedged sword. You can examine the fruit of the King James Bible.

And you can examine the fruit of the modern perversions. Look at the churches. Take a look.

  • All the proof is right there for you to see. Compare them side by side. Fun centers. Gyms. Coffee shops.
  • Watered down preaching. Nothing offends. Only love everyone all the time. Hate is evil.
  • Look at the King James churches versus the others. Look at the Bible versions side by side.
  • The modern versions have changed all the words. They are not sharp and true any longer.
  • They have changed the word of God into a lie. This is what they have done. And you see the result.

If you’re using one of those perversions of a “Bible,” you don’t have the sword you need to fight.

  • You have been disarmed by Satan himself. He’s deceived you and tricked you.
  • Your sharp two edged sword is now a stick. And you’re fighting against the evil with iron swords.
  • You lose because you don’t have the sword you need. Your enemy is now stronger than you.
  • They have better weapons than you. But not with the King James Bible, which is the word of God.

[4] Hebrews 4:11-12 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

  • The word of God is quick. There’s nothing quicker than the word of God. His words have power.
  • The word of God is sharper than any twoedged sword. Think of what this actually means.
  • His words are SHARPER than any twoedged sword. The enemy can have a twoedged sword.
  • But ours is sharper. “Piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit.”

Piercing even to the dividing asunder of the joints and marrow.

  • The word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  • The word of God is PIERCING. We have a body, spirit, and soul.

The spirit and soul cannot be divided by most anything. We don’t even know how to do that.

  • But the word of God can do these things. The word of God can divide ASUNDER soul and spirit.
  • The word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than ANY twoedged sword.
  • Listen to these quotes about two-edged swords:

[5] “With a single-edged sword, an enemy could potentially grab the dull edge of the blade. This isn’t possible with double-edged swords, however. With both edges featuring razor-like sharpness, there’s no safe edge to grab. If an enemy attempted to grab a double-edged sword, he would likely sustain a serious cut.”

[6] “A sword with double edges is made with steel sharpened at both ends. It is a dangerous weapon because there is no blunt edge. It can hurt, maim, or kill when it is swung in either direction. A double-edged sword is therefore more deathly than a sword with a single edge.”

[7] “Literally, a double-edged sword is a sword that has two sharpened edges. Figuratively, double edged sword refers to something that has both good and bad consequences. When you’re wielding a double-edged sword, you have to be careful that you don’t cut yourself when you’re trying to swing it at an opponent.”

  • We see razor like sharpness. No safe edge to grab. Serious cuts. Dangerous weapon. No blunt edge.
  • It can hurt or kill in either direction. More deadly. Both good and bad consequences.
  • You have to be careful when using a twoedged sword. Jesus Christ is the Word of God.
  • Do you remember what the Bible says about Jesus Christ being the Rock?

[8] Luke 20:17-18 And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner? 18 Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

  • Jesus is the Rock. You can stand on Him safely. He will keep you safe if you stay on that Rock.
  • You will realize you are broken, and you need Him to stand strong. We all do.
  • Without Him, we are nothing. If the Rock of Jesus falls on you, though, you will be ground to powder.
  • So, Jesus is safe, but He is also very dangerous. He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
  • He can keep you safe forever, or He can destroy you forever.

The word of God can save you or destroy you. We see these things with God’s creation.

  • Water is calm at times and then is raging at times. Water can help you or destroy you.
  • Water can be soft, or it can be sharp. Water can cut through stone.
  • Did you know that water can cut through steel? Water is sharp. Water roots up trees.
  • Wind can comfort you or destroy you. Wind can cut through stone. You can see this in rock formations.
  • Wind can break rocks. Tornados destroy things easily. Compressed air can cut through you.
  • God’s creation is awesome and peaceful but can be very dangerous too.

The word of God is the same way. Did you know the word of God cutting through you is a good thing?

  • But it can also be a bad thing. How can these things be? I’ve been slain by the word of God.
  • This sharp two edged sword has slain me for salvation and slays me as I read it and learn that I was wrong.
  • The word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  • We have to think of a spiritual two-edged sword. Sometimes we think of only fleshly things.
  • Let me explain what I mean as we continue in the Scriptures.

[9] Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  • The Bible teaches us that we aren’t wrestling against flesh and blood.
  • We are fighting against spiritual powers. In the Old Testament, they fought physically.
  • We aren’t fighting physically. God gave His people the Holy Spirit so they can fight this spiritual battle.
  • Without the Spirit of God, we would have no chance. Without the armor of God, we would lose.

But, the next verses tell us what we have available. NOTICE WE MUST USE THESE THINGS.

  • We must pick them up and put them on. We must open our Bibles, read, study, and memorize Scripture.
  • The word of God is alive. The word of God will not return unto God void. His words shall accomplish.
  • His words shall prosper in the thing whereto He sends it.

[10] Ephesians 6:13-16 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

  • These are all spiritual things. SPIRITUAL ARMOR. Not physical armor.
  • Remember, we are battling spiritually. And it’s a tough battle. When we won’t walk in the Spirit, we lose.
  • We don’t want to be losers. This is why the word of God is so important in this battle.
  • We’ve seen armor so far to this point that protects us.
  • We put on truth, righteousness, and the Gospel of peace. The Gospel brings peace in times of war.

We got out to war with the Gospel written in our hearts and minds.

  • For example, I can give anyone the Gospel without my Bible open. Why? Because I have prepared.
  • I can quote the Scriptures. I know the Scriptures. I have them stored up in my heart.
  • I repeat them over and over and over again. Thousands and thousands of times.
  • We take the shield of faith because we have faith in God and His words. This all protects us as armor.
  • This is our defense. So, where is our weapon? Our weapon is our twoedged sword.

[11] Ephesians 6:17-18 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

  • We take our sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. This is our weapon. It’s not a physical weapon.
  • Our words, when we speak the word of God, are the spiritual weapon.
  • Without the word of God, we have no weapon in this battle. The only outcome is loss.
  • That’s why the enemy, a spiritual warrior, is corrupting all of the Bibles for filthy lucre sakes.

He preys on the weakness of the love of money. So people create new “Bibles” to make money.

  • “For the love of money is the root of all evil.”
  • Derivative works must change so many words to be copyrighted.
  • They change words because copyright law tells them they must change the words.
  • And they must copyright their works so they make all the money.

With all the words constantly changing, how can they be the word of God and mean the same thing?

  • They don’t. Lies out there about the King James Version are things like, “It’s too hard to read.”
  • The KJV is on a 5th grade reading level. It’s time to get to work out there and stop being fools.
  • It’s not that hard to read it. It’s not that hard to get your phone out and look up words.

“But the thee’s, thine, thy, and thou don’t make any sense to me. They are outdated.”

  • No, they are not. They are singular. You, ye, yours, and your are plural. The T’s are singular.
  • The Y’s are plural. There, that ended that complexity. What would we ever do?
  • Takes 5 seconds to understand it. But the world deceives you into thinking, “IT’S TOO HARD!!!”

They are disarming you and turning you into a fool. They take your sword away and give you a rotten stick.

  • Try to use a rotten stick as a weapon and it falls apart on you. DISARMED.
  • Hopefully, your eyes will be opened and you’ll see what’s happening with all the Bible perversions.
  • Take the King James Bible, the perfect word of God in English, and use it as your twoedged sword.
  • You can know all the words are perfect in the King James Bible. NOTHING WAVERING.

The word of God is the SWORD OF THE SPIRIT. Remember, this is your weapon.

  • It is for offense and for defense. So, make sure you’ve got your sword ready.
  • You wouldn’t pull out an NIV as your sword. The enemy laughs. Get our your King James.

So, how does this sword of the Spirit actually work? Let’s look at an example.

  • We, as humans, are composed of body, spirit, and soul. The devil is not flesh and blood.
  • Demons and devils are evil spirits. Jesus didn’t come to save them.
  • He came in the flesh to save us who are of the flesh.
  • When a preacher comes with the Gospel of peace to win a soul to Christ, what happens?

[12] Romans 10:13-15 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

  • Do you remember how our feet are shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace?
  • We just went over that in Ephesians Chapter 6. And now we see this in Romans Chapter 10.
  • We are to be prepared to preach the Gospel. How? We use our feet to get to other people.
  • We don’t wait for them to come to us. Our shoes are the Gospel of peace.

Go therefore and preach the Gospel. WHERE? Get up and go. Use your feet. Go to them.

  • Be ready with the word of God. Gird up your loins with truth. Have your breastplate of righteousness.
  • Have your shoes on, which is the Gospel of peace. Take your shield of faith that you already have.
  • You should be able to convince someone to have faith in Christ because you already have faith in Christ.
  • Use your faith. Out on the helmet of salvation. You’re already saved. Act like it.
  • Know what that means. You have joy because you’re already saved. Share this joy. Share this peace.
  • Be prepared and have the word of God ready.

“How shall they believe on Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

  • That’s you. That’s I. How will anyone be saved without a preacher going to them?
  • This is God’s chosen method for people being saved. You can see that’s how Jesus did things.
  • You can see that’s how the disciples did things. “And how shall they preach, except they be sent?”
  • Hey, God has called you to be a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He already sent you.
  • “How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the Gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things.”

Remember? Your feet are to be shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. The word of God is the sword.

  • And it is a sharp two edged sword. As you preach the Gospel, you must have the sword of the Spirit.
  • The Holy Spirit must be present with you in order for a person to be saved as you preach the Gospel.
  • You are using the sword of the Spirit. You must use God’s actual words. Quote the Scriptures.
  • So, as humans, we are made of body, soul, and spirit. EVERY ONE OF US.

For a person to be saved, the word of God or the sharp twoedged sword must go forth.

  • This sword goes forth, spiritually, to that person and slews their flesh in order for them to be saved by the Spirit of God.
  • As you preach the Gospel, this sword is the law of God and His words. We must realize we’re sinners.
  • We must realize that we have been killed by that edge of the sword. The law slews us. We’re dead.
  • We’ve broken God’s laws so we’re finished. We realize these things and this sword does this to us.

But then we also know this sword can save us. How can these things be?

  • We’re killed by the sword, but the sword saves us? Yes, this is what happens.
  • We have this flesh and circumcision in the Bible is a picture of putting away the flesh.
  • When a Gospel preacher comes, he or she is using this sword to put the flesh away.
  • We’re using it on these people who are listening to the preaching of the Gospel.
  • The sharp twoedged sword is there to cut away the flesh so their heart will be circumcised.

[13] Romans 2:28-29 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

  • The sword is dangerous but saves us at the same time. Do you see how all of this comes together?
  • We search the Scriptures. We study to show ourselves approved unto God. We are workers.
  • We ask for wisdom, and we use this wisdom. And God give us more wisdom. Search the Scriptures.

[14] Deuteronomy 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.

  • How would you do this? Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart.
  • You can’t physically do this. When the Bible speaks of the heart it speaks of your soul.
  • You can feel this deep down inside. Your soul is who you are. Stop being stiffnecked.
  • The word of God will do this for you because it is a sharp twoedged sword. Nothing else will do this.

You hear the word of God and it can change your heart completely if you simply believe.

  • Remember, the word of God is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
  • Hebrews Chapter 4 verse 12 told us this.
  • As you preach the Gospel, the word of God can cut this foreskin of the heart so someone can actually believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Do you see how this works? The Bible teaches us these things.

[15] Deuteronomy 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thine heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

  • Who does this for you? All you have to do to be saved is to listen to the preacher using God’s words.
  • And believe those words. God promises to circumcise thine heart so that you can love the Lord.
  • When you believe in Jesus Christ, you love the Lord with all thine heart and soul. YOU MAY NOW LIVE.
  • And when I say believe in Jesus Christ, this means you know He is the only one who can save you.
  • You trust in Him and know that salvation is not of works. He’s the only option you’ve got.
  • And that sword of the Spirit can save you now or you can be lost forever.

[16] Jeremiah 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

  • If you won’t believe the word of God, His fury will come forth like fire and burn. No one can stop this fire.
  • There aren’t enough firefighters in the existence of humanity to put out this fire.

[17] Colossians 2:10-12 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: 11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: 12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

  • We put off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ. He is the Word of God.
  • Do you see how this works? This sword of the Spirit gets rid of our flesh so we can be saved.
  • Jesus Christ was cut off form God for us. He said, “My God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?”
  • He died physically and spiritually. He was buried physically and spiritually.
  • He arose from the dead physically and spiritually. We have died to sin.
  • But we live forever because God has raised Jesus Christ from the dead.

[18] Romans 6:4-6 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: 6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

  • This is what the twoedged sword does to us. We are buried with Him by baptism into death.
  • When we believe in Christ, we fully put on Christ. We are baptized into Christ.
  • As Christ was raised from the dead, we SHOULD walk in newness of life. The sword slew us.
  • And the sword saved us. The word of God is this sword. Make all the connections with the Scriptures.

Even after we’re saved, the sharp twoedged sword convicts us and cuts deep. It is not finished with us.

  • When we hear a good preacher preach against sin, many times this will cut us deep.
  • It hurts. Feelings are hurt. My feelings get hurt too. Our conscience hasn’t been seared with a hot iron.
  • We cry. I cry. I have feelings. You have feelings. God made us this way. This sword can hurt.
  • But it’s doing its job. His words, this sword, will not return unto Him void. They are alive.
  • They will never die. His words shall not pass away.

If a preacher doesn’t hurt your feelings, there is a problem. He’s not using the word of God. How do you know?

  • Because the Scriptures tell us that the word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword.
  • It will cut deep into your heart and your soul. You hear the word of God and simply believe Him.
  • We are to use His words to withstand lies, deceptions, error, temptation, and sin. WITHSTAND.
  • Get up on your feet. Stand up strong with your sword in your hand and in your heart.
  • The evil shoot darts at you. They hit you. But you take them and flick them away.

So, in the example we were using, we were speaking of preaching the Gospel. We go out to preach the Gospel.

  • We take the sword. This sword will do the job. Put off the flesh so the Spirit of God can save.
  • This sharp two edged sword is sharper than any. If it can’t do the job, no other sword can.
  • You have everything you need. PREPARE. Be ready. Memorize. Know the Scriptures.
  • If you get rejected, and you will, simply understand that the sword is still doing it’s job.

[19] Isaiah 66:15-16 For, behold, the LORD will come with fire, and with his chariots like a whirlwind, to render his anger with fury, and his rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For by fire and by his sword will the LORD plead with all flesh: and the slain of the LORD shall be many.

  • We know the chapters in the Book of Isaiah match up with the books of the Bible.
  • There are 66 books in the Bible meaning Isaiah Chapter 66 will match with Revelation the 66th book.
  • “For by fire and by His sword will the Lord plead with all flesh: and the slain of the Lord shall be many.”
  • The flesh will be slain no matter what. You can be saved by this or you can die and go to hell forever.

[20] Revelation 19:21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

  • This is the end of the Battle of Armageddon. This matches Isaiah Chapter 66.
  • “And the remnant were slain with the sword of Him that sat upon the horse.”
  • “Which sword proceeded out of His mouth.” He slew their flesh and the fowl ate their flesh.
  • What slew them? THE WORD OF GOD which is the sharp twoedged sword.

Have you ever tried to preach the Gospel to someone and they won’t let you get one verse out?

  • They will talk with you until you start using the word of God. They don’t want to hear it.
  • Maybe they are possessed by a devil. Just guessing. They hate the word of God.
  • Devils are spirits so this spiritual sword will hurt them.
  • So, again, you can allow the sword of the Spirit to slew your flesh now and be saved.
  • Or you can get utterly destroyed later on. You might understand the Old Testament better now.

[21] Jeremiah 25:30-31 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The LORD shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth. 31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the LORD hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the LORD.

[22] Jeremiah 25:32-33 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth. 33 And the slain of the LORD shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.

  • The sword of God can slay the flesh and the soul. Do you understand this?
  • It is a sharp two edged sword in many different ways. FLESH AND SOUL CAN BE SLAIN.

[23] Isaiah 34:5-6 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. 6 The sword of the LORD is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the LORD hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

  • The sword of the Lord is filled with blood. God talks about great slaughter. He will destroy all flesh.
  • All flesh is corrupt. He’ll slew all of it once and for all. Only Jesus Christ can save you.

[24] Isaiah 63:3-4 I have trodden the winepress alone; and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. 4 For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

  • If you read the words of the Bible, they should put fear into you. You should be afraid of God.
  • You’ve seen or heard of tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, typhoons, and hurricanes.
  • You should be afraid. You’ve heard thunder and seen lightning.
  • When God gets angry, it’s going to be much worse. He says, “I will trample them in my fury.”
  • Now, would most churches preach these things about God? No, because they hate His words.

They say trash like, “That was the Old Testament. The New Testament is all about love.”

  • I guess they didn’t read the ending of the New Testament. They forget the Book of Revelation.
  • They forgot the Book of Jude. They forgot 2 Peter Chapter 2. They forgot Jesus preaching to the Pharisees.
  • He called them names. He calls people fools constantly. But they are the blind leading the blind.
  • The entire Bible is profitable to us. We learn more about the Old Testament as the New Testament helps.

We know the sword of the Lord, this sharp twoedged sword, separates the Old man from the New man.

  • It cuts us asunder into two parts. THE OLD MAN AND THE NEW MAN.
  • The old man doesn’t want anything to do with this sword.
  • This is why you don’t want to read the Bible at times. The old man is still there.
  • That’s why we have this war even within ourselves.

[25] Romans 8:23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.

  • We groan within ourselves because we know the old man is still there. He’s been slain but still there.
  • This is why the Bible says, “TO DIE IS GAIN.” When our old flesh finally dies, we gain heaven.
  • This flesh of mine can never go to heaven. This sword has separated the old from the new.
  • We now need to choose to walk in the new man who has the Spirit of God who saved us.

We see all of the Scriptures in the Bible coming together as we study a sharp two edged sword today.

  • We now know what this means. We know that we need the word of God.
  • We know things in the Old Testament were figures of things to come.

[26] 1 Samuel 18:7 And the women answered one another as they played, and said, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands.

  • Think of spiritual things as well here. David physically slew the Philistines.
  • But also think of winning souls to Christ. The Apostle Paul, spiritually, slew his ten thousands.
  • David had these physical battles. We are to have these spiritual battles.
  • It’s time to go out into the spiritual battlefields. We don’t kill people physically.
  • We take all the armor and the sharp two edged sword out into the spiritual battlefields of this world.

Now, with everything that you’ve learned today, let’s take a look at Scripture that you probably know pretty well.

  • I’m talking about the battle between David and Goliath. We’ve read this many times.
  • But, with what we’ve learned today, let’s take a close look again.

[27] 1 Samuel 17:36-37 Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. 37 David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

  • This Goliath is uncircumcised of the heart. Saul says, “David, Go, the Lord be with thee.”

[28] 1 Samuel 17:38-39 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. 39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.

  • Saul gives David his armor, David puts it all on, but he doesn’t need it. He takes it all off.
  • The battle is a spiritual battle. He didn’t need the physical armor and sword.
  • He needed the physical armor and sword. David took his faith with him. He took his sword with him.
  • The uncircumcised Philistine laughed at David and mocked David. You’ll get this too out there.

[29] 1 Samuel 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

  • We don’t come with physical swords and spears and shields. We come in the name of the Lord of hosts.
  • We come in the name of the God that you have defied.

[30] 1 Samuel 17:46-47 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. 47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD’S, and he will give you into our hands.

  • We simply trust God and know that He will give these people into our hands.
  • We take the armor and sword that God has given to us.
  • These are spiritual things because we have the Spirit of God. We take this sharp two edged sword with us.
  • And we trust in this sharp two edged sword. Without this, we can’t get anyone saved out there.
  • But with this, we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. He gives us our strength.
  • “FOR THE BATTLE IS THE LORD’S.” This is His battle, and we are His people. We’re with Him.

[31] Revelation 1:16 And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.

  • Jesus takes His sharp twoedged sword and gives it to us with the King James Bible. Here it is right here.
  • These are the same words that came straight from the mouth of God. And Jesus gave them all to us.
  • He wants us to use them. He commands us to do so. We use them to help others.
  • We use them to help each other. These words never stop profiting us. They are always helping us.

[32] Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.

  • This is what we are to do for each other. I need this help too. We all need this help.
  • Iron sharpeneth iron. We are to spiritually sharpen each other with the word of God.
  • We don’t want to be caught without our sharp two-edged sword.

[33] 1 Samuel 13:22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.

  • You don’t want to be one of those people without a sword in this battle we have today.
  • You will be overtaken and overcome. Men will gather you up and burn you.
  • Instead, we are to preach His words constantly. Take them from your heart and get them out your mouth.
  • Speak His words, and don’t be afraid. The heathen will not like your words, but they are the Lord’s words.

They will cut them, and they will hate you for it. Just as Stephen repeated God’s words, they hated them.

  • The sword is sharp and cuts deep so be ready for people to be offended at your words.
  • You will give them the judgements in the Bible as they tell you that we are not supposed to judge.
  • But we’re not that foolish because we have God’s wisdom within us.
  • They will tell you that you aren’t supposed to hate anything or condemn anyone for anything.
  • But, again, we are not that foolish because we know what God says.
  • The words within the Bible include hard sayings. How can this be? It’s time to study and learn.

So, pick up your sword. Open it, read it, study it, sharpen it, and help your brothers and sisters in Christ.

  • Help others by preaching His words. Some will hate you for it, but some will love you for it.
  • When you read the Bible, you will understand the sword of the Spirit and the sharp twoedged sword.
  • Go and study the words sword and swords within the Bible and see what you find.
  • The first occurrence is in Genesis with the flaming sword and the last is in Revelation with sword proceeding out of the mouth of Jesus Christ.
  • The word of God is quick and powerful, and I hope you now understand what that means.

[34] Matthew 10:34-36 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. 35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. 36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

  • I hope you can see a deeper meaning in this Scripture now. “I came not to send peace, but a sword.”
  • Jesus isn’t at peace with what this world is doing right now. The world wants you to be at peace with it.
  • They want you to be okay with all the evil such as abortion, LGBTQ, and women pastors but we aren’t.
  • The word of God will set a man at variance with his own family and his foes will be his own family.
  • If you’re for the word of God, you aren’t the enemy. If you aren’t, you are the enemy.
  • And you will lose because the word of God is a spiritual sword that will cut you to pieces.

Let’s pray.
